:00:00. > :00:19.50 years on, it is still being felt. That's all

:00:20. > :00:27.Good evening. 650 workers at a bakery in pupil to

:00:28. > :00:30.have been told their jobs are under threat. The company have lost a

:00:31. > :00:34.multi-million pound contract with Marks Spencer. It says it is

:00:35. > :00:41.looking for new work but the future of the site is in doubt.

:00:42. > :00:45.Workers clocking in four shifts today heard the bad news, that their

:00:46. > :00:51.biggest contract had been lost. They had been told redundancies could

:00:52. > :00:56.begin as April. For more than 25 years, workers have made and

:00:57. > :01:01.decorated cakes here. Now, the site and 650 jobs are in question. The

:01:02. > :01:05.contract amounts to 85% of its business, making a range of cakes

:01:06. > :01:12.for their stores. Losing it could be devastating. I am on a temporary

:01:13. > :01:16.contract, on the verge of being taken on full-time, but that is a

:01:17. > :01:22.knock to me now. I cannot see it happening. We do products for Tesco,

:01:23. > :01:30.Sainsbury's, and we have recently received a large contract with

:01:31. > :01:35.Alfie, but to try to make up 85% of the incoming business will be really

:01:36. > :01:38.hard. The company is owned by the large food group based in

:01:39. > :01:43.Birmingham. It says most of the workers are now at risk of losing

:01:44. > :01:46.their jobs and it is a huge setback to its cakes business, but it adds

:01:47. > :01:51.it is doing everything it can to attract new customers. I have had an

:01:52. > :01:57.assurance that the officials would do every thing they can to help, but

:01:58. > :02:01.I do not know where they will get orders from, the managers have

:02:02. > :02:06.assured me they are looking for new orders. It would be perfect if Marks

:02:07. > :02:11.Spencer changed their mind, but I cannot see it happening. All jobs

:02:12. > :02:19.are important, we need jobs in South Wales. But yes, these jobs, five or

:02:20. > :02:23.ten years ago, replaced the old industrial jobs, and they are really

:02:24. > :02:29.important, the money feeds into the local economy. The work is skilled

:02:30. > :02:34.and relatively low paid, employees thought business was going quite

:02:35. > :02:40.well. They are a good workforce, they are solid, they performed very

:02:41. > :02:44.well, they had a lot of praise at Christmas, they did a lot of work.

:02:45. > :02:50.This is a shock to them. It is out of the blue. The harsh reality is

:02:51. > :02:55.that Marks Spencer will in future get its cakes supplied by a firm in

:02:56. > :02:58.Oldham. In a statement, it says it was part of its work to further

:02:59. > :03:03.improve the quality of its food supply chain. The consultation

:03:04. > :03:09.period begins, workers can only hope that new orders can be won. The news

:03:10. > :03:14.that the contract had been lost came as a complete shock to the 650

:03:15. > :03:19.workers as they turned up for work today. Now, the whole future of this

:03:20. > :03:23.plant is in question, unless the managers manage to find other

:03:24. > :03:25.customers. A preliminary investigation for

:03:26. > :03:29.murder and possession of drugs is under way following the death of a

:03:30. > :03:34.woman from Swansea who was on holiday in Bulgaria. Nina Holmes

:03:35. > :03:38.from Gorseinon collapsed in Borovets on Sunday. The Foreign Office has

:03:39. > :03:41.said it is providing help to her family.

:03:42. > :03:46.Clinics will be held by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board

:03:47. > :03:50.for patients and their relatives who want to voice concerns about

:03:51. > :03:53.standards of care. It follows a public meeting last week where calls

:03:54. > :03:57.were made for the health board's Chief Executive to stand down.

:03:58. > :04:01.The Labour assembly member Keith Davies has called for the immediate

:04:02. > :04:05.suspension of the Chief Executive of Carmarthenshire county council, this

:04:06. > :04:10.comes after a report found that certain payments made to Mark James

:04:11. > :04:17.were unlawful. The council has criticised the report.

:04:18. > :04:21.An ?850 million tidal lagoon which would generate energy from the ebb

:04:22. > :04:25.and flow of the tide in Swansea Bay is being submitted for approval. If

:04:26. > :04:34.it goes ahead, it would initially create 2000 jobs.

:04:35. > :04:38.It could cover a quarter of Swansea Bay, from the dock every year, east

:04:39. > :04:45.to wear the University's new science campus is being built. 16 turbines

:04:46. > :04:50.would be placed in a concrete lot to catch the world's second highest

:04:51. > :04:56.tide. If the scheme is approved, power could be produced for up to 16

:04:57. > :04:59.hours a day. The first lagoon needs a kick-start, but it is about

:05:00. > :05:04.launching an industry. The lagoons after the first one, their price

:05:05. > :05:10.will be cheaper than nuclear power and will last for 120 years. The

:05:11. > :05:13.money is there to build it, we now need to achieve the correct subsidy

:05:14. > :05:17.level from the British government. To generate cleaner power, tidal

:05:18. > :05:27.lagoon power is asking for government subsidy of around 30

:05:28. > :05:33.years. Last year, EDF energy secured ?92 50 per megawatt hour of energy

:05:34. > :05:39.after 2023. Large solar parks will attract government support of ?120

:05:40. > :05:44.per megawatt hour. Wind farms on land typically are offered ?95. Wind

:05:45. > :05:52.turbines at to see are in a higher bracket for the power they generate,

:05:53. > :05:56.?155. Offshore wind is the nearest comparison to the proposed tidal

:05:57. > :06:05.goon at Swansea, the developers are asking for a strike price of between

:06:06. > :06:09.155 and ?164. But some claim this scheme will produce energy which

:06:10. > :06:13.will be far more expensive. The Swansea Bay lagoon is fine for

:06:14. > :06:17.Swansea Bay, but it is 1500 football pitches in size. You would need 50

:06:18. > :06:23.of them to generate a fraction of the power of the Severn barrage.

:06:24. > :06:27.Swansea and Neath Port Talbot councils have three months to offer

:06:28. > :06:30.an opinion. The planning Inspectorate will look at the

:06:31. > :06:37.proposal for up to a year. The decision will rest with a JV, the

:06:38. > :06:45.energy minister in Westminster. Rugby, Wales under 20s took on

:06:46. > :06:51.Ireland tonight, winning 16-0. The women's team lost to Ireland, 6-14.

:06:52. > :07:06.A close match for the ospreys. This weekend marks the 50th

:07:07. > :07:10.anniversary of BBC Wales. Before 1964, he was here shared a local

:07:11. > :07:14.service with the West of England. A broadcasting revolution saw the

:07:15. > :07:18.creation of a uniquely Welsh television service.

:07:19. > :07:22.There are plenty of challenges ahead, when you think of digital,

:07:23. > :07:28.social media, BBC Wales, like every part, will be to adapt and evolve,

:07:29. > :07:34.but the notion that Wales deserves its own media service, that can deal

:07:35. > :07:39.with Wales on its own terms, in our own language, that is hugely

:07:40. > :07:43.important, and it will endure. The next big Atlantic storm is coming

:07:44. > :07:48.in, rain and wind have been increasing.

:07:49. > :07:54.It is time to batten down the hatches again, the next Atlantic

:07:55. > :07:59.storm is on our doorstep, heading towards Ireland. Met Office warnings

:08:00. > :08:04.are in force, one for heavy rain, one for severe gales is that

:08:05. > :08:11.counties -- in southern counties for tomorrow. We have to be prepared for

:08:12. > :08:14.more flooding and disruption. I would not be surprised if there are

:08:15. > :08:19.if you power cuts. But and windy at the moment. The rain is clearing two

:08:20. > :08:25.showers overnight, strong to gale force wind, temperatures stay above

:08:26. > :08:30.freezing. An intense area of low pressure over Ireland tomorrow. Some

:08:31. > :08:34.places start off dry in the morning, but rain and showers will spread

:08:35. > :08:38.across the country. Heavy rain accompanied by strong to gale force

:08:39. > :08:42.winds. Across the rest of the UK, rain in the far north-east will

:08:43. > :08:46.slowly clear, some dry weather and sunshine, but plenty of rain and

:08:47. > :08:52.showers circulating around the area of low pressure over Ireland. Heavy

:08:53. > :08:55.rain, snow on the hills and mountains, and strong to severe gale

:08:56. > :09:02.force wind in the south and West. That goes for Wales, very windy

:09:03. > :09:06.tomorrow afternoon, severe gales are -- on exposed parts of the South and

:09:07. > :09:13.West coasts. Hale and thunder possible. It is a similar story

:09:14. > :09:17.tomorrow night, very windy and wet at times. Further heavy showers.

:09:18. > :09:23.Sunday will continue windy. It turns dry later in the day. If you sunny

:09:24. > :09:28.intervals. The wind slowly eases. More rough weather on the way. Some

:09:29. > :09:35.big waves in the south-west. Still a risk of flooding in parts of the

:09:36. > :09:40.South and West Coast. Monday is, , with sunshine, but it will not last,

:09:41. > :09:43.another low pressure will bring more rain and strong wind by cheese day.

:09:44. > :09:46.Have a great weekend. Despite the weather. Enjoy the rugby and

:09:47. > :09:55.football if you can. We will have updates on the weather

:09:56. > :09:57.situation over the weekend. We are back just after 1pm tomorrow. Good

:09:58. > :10:02.night, goodbye.
