:00:12. > :00:17.Good Evening. A search is underway tonight for a

:00:18. > :00:21.kayaker missing in a river in Powys. The man was part of a group of eight

:00:22. > :00:24.experienced kayakers on the River Usk at Llangynidr, near Crickhowell,

:00:25. > :00:27.when he got into difficulty earlier this afternoon. The search is

:00:28. > :00:30.centred on a seven-mile stretch of river. The Welsh Ambulance Service,

:00:31. > :00:36.the RAF, mountain rescue teams and fire crews are all involved as Nick

:00:37. > :00:43.Palit reports. Within the past few minutes, a kayak

:00:44. > :00:46.has been found. The alarm was raised at 1pm with

:00:47. > :00:53.reports of a kayak out with a group of canoeists had got into develop --

:00:54. > :00:58.into difficulty. Police and RAF helicopters took part in the search

:00:59. > :01:04.from above. On the ground, the Brecon Beacons bus back rescue

:01:05. > :01:07.team... Yelena we had a call at one o'clock.

:01:08. > :01:15.We're glad on going searches with fire services and mountain rescue

:01:16. > :01:27.searching the river banks and it is continuing. We are searching from an

:01:28. > :01:30.estate down towards Gillen. Rescues have described the conditions as

:01:31. > :01:37.difficult. You can see the River Usk is swollen. The search is continuing

:01:38. > :01:44.and a section of the river has been cordoned off. The missing man's

:01:45. > :01:47.family has been informed. Heavy rain and strong winds have

:01:48. > :01:51.begun to ease across Wales, after a weekend of power cuts and transport

:01:52. > :01:54.disruption. The M4 near Swansea has reopened, after recovery teams moved

:01:55. > :01:57.a lorry which overturned on the Briton Ferry Bridge yesterday. Some

:01:58. > :02:00.roads are still blocked by floods and fallen trees, and Western Power

:02:01. > :02:03.Distribution has reconnected around 64,000 properties, after power cuts.

:02:04. > :02:10.Around 50 homes are still without power.

:02:11. > :02:13.And, after the recent damage caused by the bad weather around Wales,

:02:14. > :02:16.Week In Week Out will question whether there's enough money to

:02:17. > :02:19.repair and protect, or whether some communities will have to permanently

:02:20. > :02:26.retreat. That's this Tuesday at 10:35 on BBC One Wales.

:02:27. > :02:31.The number of Welsh students applying to study in England has

:02:32. > :02:33.risen by nearly 20% since 2010 to around 50,000. Figures from the

:02:34. > :02:37.university admissions body, UCAS, show that the total staying in Wales

:02:38. > :02:42.has fallen nearly 10% over the same period, to around 36,500. The Welsh

:02:43. > :02:46.Government says its policy of paying the bulk of students' tuition fees,

:02:47. > :02:51.wherever they study in the UK, was the most equitable it's ever had.

:02:52. > :03:03.But opposition parties are questioning it.

:03:04. > :03:07.I think we are starting to see problems with regards to investment

:03:08. > :03:13.in high education in Wales compared to England. Certainly I have been

:03:14. > :03:16.having representations from many institutions regarding the quality

:03:17. > :03:22.of living accommodation, teaching blocks and this is perhaps a pattern

:03:23. > :03:26.since the revolution -- devolution. Gary Monk says victory over Cardiff

:03:27. > :03:31.City in his first match in charge of the Swans is one of the best moments

:03:32. > :03:32.of his career. The game ended 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium last night.

:03:33. > :03:48.Natasha Llewellyn reports. He has been in charge of Swansea

:03:49. > :03:54.city for less than a week but after a 3-0 victory against Cardiff City,

:03:55. > :04:03.there was lots of praise. They're playing the way they used to play.

:04:04. > :04:11.Fantastic. Well done, Gary Monk. Fantastic. The passion and pride is

:04:12. > :04:16.back. After a slow first half, Wayne Routledge scored the first goal. He

:04:17. > :04:23.then created Nathan Dyer's headed second. Depression were on for

:04:24. > :04:27.Cardiff City. I know the club and the fans and the

:04:28. > :04:34.environment, but this is a different sort of situation. All I cared about

:04:35. > :04:38.was the club. They were magnificent. I could not be any prouder. You go

:04:39. > :04:42.into these games with heart and head. I think the passion will

:04:43. > :04:51.always be there in a game like this. He got off to a great start.

:04:52. > :04:56.We have to respond. Swansea now move up to 10th in the Premier League,

:04:57. > :05:00.six points above Cardiff who will be bottom of the league if Fulham beat

:05:01. > :05:05.Manchester United. That game has just finished 2-2,

:05:06. > :05:10.that means Cardiff are still second from bottom in the Premier League.

:05:11. > :05:18.We can look forward to a calm and quiet night compared to the one just

:05:19. > :05:21.gone, but we do have some icy patches, especially on untreated

:05:22. > :05:29.surfaces. We do have some line water. It will be so nice. Showers

:05:30. > :05:33.are coming in from the West, especially in the overnight period,

:05:34. > :05:36.and they could be wintry. Temperatures will be around the

:05:37. > :05:42.freezing murk for most of us. Some frosty patches in the morning.

:05:43. > :05:46.Wintry showers continued throughout. Some brightness in between and

:05:47. > :05:52.lighter winds than today and yesterday with highs of six to eight

:05:53. > :05:55.Celsius. We have a band of more persistent rain heading our way

:05:56. > :06:00.through Tuesday. There will be further risk of flooding. Have a

:06:01. > :06:11.good evening. I'll be back just after 10:15pm.

:06:12. > :06:16.number of severe warnings out. Most number of severe warnings out. Most

:06:17. > :06:17.of them have been
