:00:00. > :00:16.gone wrong with Wales? But now on BBC

:00:17. > :00:22.Good evening. died suddenly at a house in

:00:23. > :00:26.Carmarthenshire. Police have seized the family's pet dog. Eliza-Mae

:00:27. > :00:29.Mullane was flown by air ambulance from her home in Pontyberem, near

:00:30. > :00:33.Cross Hands, to the University of Hospital in Cardiff this morning.

:00:34. > :00:42.The dog, an Alaskan Malamute, is not a banned breed. Cemlyn Davies

:00:43. > :00:48.reports. Police investigations have been continuing here all day

:00:49. > :00:56.following the tragic death of a baby girl who was less than a week old.

:00:57. > :01:01.Her name was Eliza-Mae, the story of Sharon and John. The alarm was

:01:02. > :01:06.raised by her mother. Her brother and sister were also in the house

:01:07. > :01:09.when emergency services arrived. Eliza-Mae was taken to helicopter to

:01:10. > :01:14.the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, but sadly doctors there

:01:15. > :01:23.were not able to save her. I clearly stated an investigation, our hearts

:01:24. > :01:28.go out to the family. As you can imagine, the family are hugely

:01:29. > :01:32.distressed. The liaison officers are supporting the family through this

:01:33. > :01:36.difficult time. The first response car, the ambulance going down the

:01:37. > :01:44.street, doctors. I hope I live police, and their vehicles. And then

:01:45. > :01:49.there was a dog vehicle here. It was just crawling with police and

:01:50. > :01:54.unrecorded. There was so much going on, you don't know what's happening.

:01:55. > :02:01.Somewhere whether the baby involved, it's always something terrible. It's

:02:02. > :02:05.something you can't retake in. This lady left flowers in memory of

:02:06. > :02:13.Eliza-Mae. She knew the family and the dog. A normal dog, friendly, it

:02:14. > :02:17.was. It is a very friendly dog. I don't think they would get over it

:02:18. > :02:22.to be honest. I don't dig anyone could get over something like this.

:02:23. > :02:26.The dog has been seized by police as part of their enquiries. It is a

:02:27. > :02:29.popular breed of domestic dog, a Alaskan Malamute, which is not on

:02:30. > :02:35.the banned list, but it can be dangerous. The Alaskan Malamute is a

:02:36. > :02:42.sled dog, one of the old Arctic sled dogs. It's a very powerful dog.

:02:43. > :02:51.Heavy boned, heavy bodied, it can grow to a weight of 85 and ?125.

:02:52. > :02:54.Back in Pontyberum, the community is still coming to terms with what has

:02:55. > :02:58.happened here, and everyone's thoughts are with the family of

:02:59. > :03:01.six-day-old Eliza-Mae. Avon and Somerset Police have charged the

:03:02. > :03:03.chief executive of Caerphilly council Anthony O'Sullivan and

:03:04. > :03:08.deputy chief executive Nigel Barnett with misconduct in a public office.

:03:09. > :03:12.It follows payments and pay rises made back in 2012. The head of legal

:03:13. > :03:15.services at the authority, Daniel Perkins, has also been summoned for

:03:16. > :03:18.the same offence A nine-year-old girl who drowned while white-water

:03:19. > :03:23.rafting on holiday in Turkey was unlawfully killed, the coroner has

:03:24. > :03:31.ruled. Cerys Potter, from Llancarfan in the Vale of Glamorgan, was flung

:03:32. > :03:34.from an inflatable raft in 2010. Last year, four men involved in

:03:35. > :03:36.running the white water rafting trip were jailed in Turkey for reckless

:03:37. > :03:50.killing. Now we've had three and half years fighting this through

:03:51. > :03:55.Turkey. And now here. We will never stop campaigning to try and make it

:03:56. > :04:01.safer for kids going on holiday in Turkey. But now, it's time for us to

:04:02. > :04:08.grieve. We haven't had time to do that. And now we can add just a bit

:04:09. > :04:11.of family time. Cerys Potter's father Terry. Growing numbers of

:04:12. > :04:14.ambulance staff are being signed off on long-term sick leave because of

:04:15. > :04:17.stress. Unions say the problem is so bad, they are now seeing cases of

:04:18. > :04:28.personal injury claims for compensation. Abigail Neal has this

:04:29. > :04:32.special report. Ambulances delayed outside A Unable to deliver

:04:33. > :04:37.patients, unable to respond to other calls coming in. It is stressful all

:04:38. > :04:40.round. A Freedom of information request shows the amount of time

:04:41. > :04:45.crews are waiting outside hospitals is on the rise. And so too are the

:04:46. > :04:49.number of staff being signed off on long-term sick because of stress.

:04:50. > :04:54.Tina is one of them. A paramedic from the central and western region

:04:55. > :04:57.who wanted to remain anonymous. It was constant pressure trying to hit

:04:58. > :05:01.targets and be somewhere else when you're dealing with one patient.

:05:02. > :05:04.You're not getting time to clear your head between one patient and

:05:05. > :05:08.another. You just haven't got time think. You're constantly barrage

:05:09. > :05:12.from one job to the next and it was getting home and just being useless

:05:13. > :05:17.to man or beast. You just couldn't function as a human being. You are

:05:18. > :05:23.just a shower. The ambulance service has the highest sickness level in

:05:24. > :05:26.the NHS in Wales. 7.5% also compare that to a number of front-line

:05:27. > :05:31.service, the police force, and their average works out at almost half

:05:32. > :05:36.that, 4%. The figures are calculated at a number of hours lost, and when

:05:37. > :05:42.you look closely, stress is the second most common reason given for

:05:43. > :05:50.absence. In 2011 - 12, 9657 hours were lost because of stress, and

:05:51. > :05:54.12-13, it had risen to 11,255. That's almost three times as many

:05:55. > :06:01.people being signed off for stress as for a common cold or flu. OK, is

:06:02. > :06:06.she awake pretty much issue breathing? 500 909 calls coming to

:06:07. > :06:10.this control room every day. Plans to reduce the number of hospitals in

:06:11. > :06:15.Wales means ambulances will have to travel greater distances and

:06:16. > :06:18.managers accept that means they will need more staff. We will need to

:06:19. > :06:25.provide more training. need more staff. We will need to

:06:26. > :06:30.the skills of our staff so they can care for patients over a longer

:06:31. > :06:36.period of time. But not necessarily more paramedics? I'm not saying

:06:37. > :06:39.there won't be. If those services are moving, we will need more

:06:40. > :06:44.staff. Coping under pressure has always been part of the job. But the

:06:45. > :06:47.growing cost of the stressed and sick in the workforce, is proving

:06:48. > :06:50.harder to manage. Football, and Newport County recorded their first

:06:51. > :06:53.League win in seven games to end Oxford's unbeaten record away from

:06:54. > :06:56.home in League Two. Justin Edinburgh's men beat Oxford 3-2,

:06:57. > :07:01.with Rene Howe, Ryan Burge and Chris Zebroski each putting one away. No

:07:02. > :07:02.such luck for Wrexham, who could only manage a 0-0 draw with

:07:03. > :07:08.Cambridge United. The former Swansea manager Michael

:07:09. > :07:11.Laudrup has described the club's reasons for sacking him as silly.

:07:12. > :07:14.The Dane spoke out at a press conference in London, exactly two

:07:15. > :07:18.weeks after being dismissed for breach of contract. The club has

:07:19. > :07:27.declined to comment on his claims. Laudrup said his sacking by chairman

:07:28. > :07:32.Huw Jenkins came out of the blue. While I'm talking on the phone, I

:07:33. > :07:40.received a mail which says that, due to breach of contract, it is with

:07:41. > :07:44.immediate effect terminated. Just a few hours after we just shake

:07:45. > :07:46.hands. Rugby, and Wales fly-half Rhys Priestland has extended his

:07:47. > :07:50.contract with the Llanelli Scarlets. The 26-year-old had been offered a

:07:51. > :07:55.central contract by the Welsh Rugby Union. A taste of spring today which

:07:56. > :08:02.probably won't last long, Derek? Absolutely, Jamie. It's going to

:08:03. > :08:11.turn colder before Friday. Absolutely, Jamie. It's going to

:08:12. > :08:15.temperatures reached 11 Celsius in places, 50 Fahrenheit. More dry and

:08:16. > :08:21.mild weather tomorrow. But it's not going to stay dry all week. Most

:08:22. > :08:25.places dry, right now, but mist and fog in places. After midnight,

:08:26. > :08:28.patchy rain spreading across the country. No frost tonight.

:08:29. > :08:34.Temperatures above freezing. A cloudy start tomorrow morning. Misty

:08:35. > :08:39.in places. The rain will clear. More of the country becoming dry and

:08:40. > :08:43.bright. Hopefully a little sunshine in Monmouthshire. Across the rest of

:08:44. > :08:47.the UK, patchy mist and hill fog, a few spots of rain, one or two

:08:48. > :08:53.showers but come on the whole, a lot of dry weather across the UK and the

:08:54. > :08:57.cloud will break with some sunshine. 11 Celsius in Liverpool. Wind and

:08:58. > :09:01.rain will reach the far south-west later in the afternoon. 3pm in

:09:02. > :09:06.Wales, tomorrow, most of the country dry, bright, little sunshine. Quite

:09:07. > :09:11.mild, too, but the wind and rain will be to the far south-west. As we

:09:12. > :09:15.head towards evening, a warm front will move north east of bringing

:09:16. > :09:20.more rain and drizzle. The cloud lowering with widespread hill fog

:09:21. > :09:24.and the wind picking up as well. A wet and windy start on Thursday but

:09:25. > :09:26.the rain will clear followed by showers and brighter skies. Some

:09:27. > :09:34.sunshine on Thursday afternoon. Friday, a chilly day, windy, too.

:09:35. > :09:39.Some of the showers heavy. Hail and thunder. Cold enough for snow on the

:09:40. > :09:44.mountains. Saturday, the best day of the weekend but there is more wind

:09:45. > :09:49.and rain on the way. Thanks very much. Could South Wales Police have

:09:50. > :09:51.stopped the rock star Ian Watkins from committing serious sex offences

:09:52. > :09:56.involving children from committing serious sex offences

:09:57. > :10:00.Week in Week Out is next. That's Wales Today. From me, good night.
