:00:12. > :00:15.Good evening. It's been claimed the number of

:00:16. > :00:18.people in Wales whose job-seeker's Allowance has been stopped has more

:00:19. > :00:22.than tripled over the past ten years. A Glasgow University academic

:00:23. > :00:27.claims more than 40,000 people a year have been affected. Meanwhile,

:00:28. > :00:32.a BBC poll suggests 45% of Welsh voters want the UK government to be

:00:33. > :00:37.tougher on benefit claimants. Our political reporter Daniel Davies has

:00:38. > :00:41.more. Welfare reform has sparked heated

:00:42. > :00:44.debate among politicians. So what do Welsh voters think? Our St David's

:00:45. > :00:48.Day poll found 45% thought the UK government was not being tough

:00:49. > :00:53.enough and more should be done to force benefit claimants into work.

:00:54. > :00:54.27% said the Government was being too tough, saying most claimants

:00:55. > :00:57.would work if they could. force benefit claimants into work.

:00:58. > :01:00.27% said the Government was And 22% said the current policy was about

:01:01. > :01:02.right. On the streets of Bridgend today,

:01:03. > :01:09.there were strong views. right.

:01:10. > :01:16.On the streets You do feel pressured because you have that label on you

:01:17. > :01:19.that you are scum and milking the system and not everybody is. There

:01:20. > :01:23.are people doing that but there are people like myself as well. I work

:01:24. > :01:29.for a homeless charity and see people who need the money and cannot

:01:30. > :01:32.get it. Other people seem to be able to get it without even trying. The

:01:33. > :01:36.more people who can get back into work, the better. It would bring

:01:37. > :01:41.more jobs to this area and would be better. People should not be given

:01:42. > :01:45.benefits so easily. Give us a fair deal on and implement benefit and

:01:46. > :01:50.the benefit systems because I would like to see a government is dumb

:01:51. > :01:55.administered call one month and see how they like it. -- government

:01:56. > :01:57.minister go on benefit for one month.

:01:58. > :02:00.And support for welfare reform isn't confined to the two parties that

:02:01. > :02:04.make up the Westminster coalition government. Supporters of the Labour

:02:05. > :02:12.Party and Plaid Cymru, quite a lot of endorsement for government policy

:02:13. > :02:15.on welfare benefits and even some people suggesting that cutbacks or

:02:16. > :02:17.measures against those claiming benefits should be taken further.

:02:18. > :02:24.Supporters of the coalition say Wales needs welfare reform as badly

:02:25. > :02:27.as anywhere in the UK. We have seen generations of families that have

:02:28. > :02:30.been trapped in a welfare system that because of the way to structure

:02:31. > :02:35.it is nigh on impossible for them to take the risk of taking on work, to

:02:36. > :02:38.be able to get out of that system because work will not pay for them

:02:39. > :02:41.and people want a very system that looks after people but need help.

:02:42. > :02:44.Including pensions, more than ?9 billion a year are spent on benefits

:02:45. > :02:47.in Wales. Chancellor George Osborne says more cuts are needed.

:02:48. > :02:51.It'll be his turn to ask your opinion at the general election next

:02:52. > :02:54.year. Two of Wales' four police and crime

:02:55. > :02:58.commissioners have taken opposing views on whether policing powers

:02:59. > :03:01.should be devolved. The Silk Commission is expected to call for

:03:02. > :03:05.the Welsh government to take over responsibility in a report tomorrow.

:03:06. > :03:08.North Wales Commissioner Winston Rodick says the move is necessary

:03:09. > :03:13.unless there are good operational reasons against it. But Dyfed-Powys'

:03:14. > :03:20.Commissioner Christopher Salmon says it will do nothing to cut crime.

:03:21. > :03:23.A man has died after an off-road vehicle toppled down a hill in

:03:24. > :03:26.Flintshire. The incident, involving a Land Rover, happened at Moel Llys

:03:27. > :03:30.y Coed, near Mold, early this morning. North Wales Police say no

:03:31. > :03:40.other vehicles are thought to be involved.

:03:41. > :03:48.Cardiff City and Swansea City have been in action this afternoon. This

:03:49. > :03:53.1's got a lead at half time but Crystal Palace scored an equaliser

:03:54. > :03:59.in the 82nd needed -- 82nd minute to level the game. It has just entered

:04:00. > :04:02.injury time. Cardiff lost to Tottenham and have now lost their

:04:03. > :04:07.last seven games away from home. Snooker. And in the final of the

:04:08. > :04:10.Welsh Open in Newport, world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has

:04:11. > :04:14.opened up a big lead. He's beating China's Ding Jung-wee by 7-1 and

:04:15. > :04:17.needs only two more frames to win. Play resumes at seven. -- 7pm.

:04:18. > :04:21.Rugby. And The Scarlets beat Pro 12 leaders Munster by 18-13 at Parc Y

:04:22. > :04:24.Scarlets last night. In a hard fought match, a try a piece from

:04:25. > :04:26.Gareth Davies and John Barclay denied the Irish region an

:04:27. > :04:30.unprecedented clean sweep of victories over the four Welsh

:04:31. > :04:34.regions. It also keeps the Scarlets slim play-off hopes alive.

:04:35. > :04:38.A new world record was set in Bala on St David's Day, with the largest

:04:39. > :04:41.Welsh cake ever being baked by a group of local volunteers. Weighing

:04:42. > :04:45.close to 50 pounds and measuring five feet in width, the colossal

:04:46. > :04:51.cake secured the first ever Guinness World Record title for the Town.

:04:52. > :04:54.Let's take a look at the weather forecast for Wales. With the

:04:55. > :05:04.details, here's Sara Thornton. Good evening. We have had a belt of

:05:05. > :05:07.heavy rain throughout the day. Still clearing the way but some heavy

:05:08. > :05:11.showers which will persist through tomorrow and also we will be

:05:12. > :05:14.watching out for an icy start. We will have some drier weather for a

:05:15. > :05:18.time throughout tonight before the showers really start to get going by

:05:19. > :05:23.breakfast time into the south of winds. Yes, it could be wintry over

:05:24. > :05:27.higher ground. We are more concerned about the ice in the North. We have

:05:28. > :05:33.a Met Office warning for the rain in the south of Wales. We have a risk

:05:34. > :05:36.towards the North for ice but the showers keep going throughout the

:05:37. > :05:42.afternoon and eventually buying out. Over higher ground, they could be

:05:43. > :05:49.wintry. Seven Celsius typically tomorrow. The chilly night into the

:05:50. > :05:52.starting things on Tuesday. Temperatures on the rise in the

:05:53. > :05:56.middle part of the week. That's all from us now. We'll be

:05:57. > :05:58.back with our late update tonight at around 10:15. Hope you can join us

:05:59. > :06:09.then. Thanks watching. Goodbye. will be back.

:06:10. > :06:15.Good evening. The chances are, you are enjoying your evening on a nice

:06:16. > :06:16.warm sofa while it rains outside. Pretty heavy rain in parts
