:00:00. > :00:17.they've still got a long way to go. That's all from us.

:00:18. > :00:22.Good evening. There are more concerns tonight about the care and

:00:23. > :00:25.safety of hospital patients. Hywel Dda University Health Board asked

:00:26. > :00:29.the Royal College of Physicians to look at its cardiology services. The

:00:30. > :00:31.report found resources "stretched" across four hospitals, and it is

:00:32. > :00:45.recommending centralising cardiac services at Glangwili in Carmarthen.

:00:46. > :00:49.Steffan Messenger reports. Patient care in mid and West Wales

:00:50. > :00:56.has barely been out of the headlines this month. We have already seen

:00:57. > :01:01.protest against plans to centralised specialist A provision, as well as

:01:02. > :01:07.services for newborn babies. At the moment, heart patients can be

:01:08. > :01:13.treated at any of the four district general hospitals. Vacancy a

:01:14. > :01:18.consultant in four areas. According to the Royal College of physicians,

:01:19. > :01:23.that is unsustainable. Difficulty recruiting staff means resources are

:01:24. > :01:26.stretched too thinly, with some consultants working all hours to

:01:27. > :01:31.meet targets. The review heard games from. As the care patients receive

:01:32. > :01:36.is very poor. The answer, it says, is to create a heart disease hub in

:01:37. > :01:47.Glangwili hospital, moving all cardiology staff to Carmarthen. We

:01:48. > :01:50.recognise a lot of what they say within the report because they were

:01:51. > :01:56.issues we were aware of already. We need to form a programme board,

:01:57. > :01:59.which I will be chairing, to consider these recommendations,

:02:00. > :02:05.along with other recommendations that we have two use to design our

:02:06. > :02:10.services, and then we will take the action plan to the public board

:02:11. > :02:15.meeting in May. We cannot say to people with honesty that we can

:02:16. > :02:18.provide all services everywhere of the standard that we would like to

:02:19. > :02:24.provide. Sometimes, that means, Misys, both for patients and for

:02:25. > :02:29.services. Major concerns were also reported about high death rate for

:02:30. > :02:33.heart disease in Haverfordwest. The health ward says there were mistakes

:02:34. > :02:36.in the way the data was collected. The Royal job physicians says the

:02:37. > :02:43.whole process of working out figures needs to start from scratch -- the

:02:44. > :02:46.Royal College of physicians. But, for campaigners already fighting to

:02:47. > :02:54.protect local services, the idea that more could be lost as come as a

:02:55. > :03:00.bitter blow. These recommendations are unexpected, out of the blue. It

:03:01. > :03:05.would leave people without direct close access to cardiac services

:03:06. > :03:09.that are so critical to saving lives, and it would cause a huge

:03:10. > :03:18.amount of concern in the amenities that I represent. -- communities.

:03:19. > :03:21.The health board has stressed that no decisions have yet been made, but

:03:22. > :03:23.they say they will consider all the recommendations.

:03:24. > :03:27.A former Conservative party councillor has told a court he saw a

:03:28. > :03:31.man "thrashing about", trying to get free from the Swansea-born MP, Nigel

:03:32. > :03:34.Evans, on a night out in Blackpool. Mark Famosa told Preston Crown Court

:03:35. > :03:38.he had to push Mr Evans, seen here in the dark suit, off the alleged

:03:39. > :03:41.victim in a bar during the 2003 Party Conference. Mr Evans denies

:03:42. > :03:47.one count of rape, two of indecent assault and six of sexual assault.

:03:48. > :03:50.A man involved in the death of Cardiff teenager Karen Price 25

:03:51. > :03:53.years ago has been invited to appeal against his conviction. 48-year-old

:03:54. > :03:57.Idris Ali admitted manslaughter in 1994, after the 15-year-old

:03:58. > :04:01.disappeared from a children's home. His case is one of a number referred

:04:02. > :04:08.to the Court of Appeal because of concerns about techniques used by

:04:09. > :04:11.South Wales Police at the time. The Welsh government has announced a

:04:12. > :04:16.fundamental review of the school curriculum in Wales. The Education

:04:17. > :04:19.minister, Huw Lewis, has told BBC Wales he'd be keen to see some 13-

:04:20. > :04:29.and 14-year-olds take some time out of school to follow personal

:04:30. > :04:33.interests. Which of these different subjects

:04:34. > :04:38.could get most attention on the curriculum? Are we equipping

:04:39. > :04:44.children with the skills they need for the 21st century? After several

:04:45. > :04:48.reviews into different subjects, the education minister has decided to

:04:49. > :04:54.look at the whole lot. This man has been tasked with reviewing our

:04:55. > :04:59.curriculum. The work is about ensuring that preparation for the

:05:00. > :05:07.more formal period in the stage for is built progressively. We build

:05:08. > :05:10.towards that. One idea is that 13 and 14-year-olds could be able to

:05:11. > :05:16.follow their own interests during school time, but maybe of school

:05:17. > :05:25.property. Are there ways we could inspire young people better? Could

:05:26. > :05:30.we remove a bit of the straitjacket of the school timetable from around

:05:31. > :05:37.them? Let's see what kind of answers we come up with. Museums and

:05:38. > :05:40.universities could be asked to help pupils nurture their interests. It

:05:41. > :05:46.could be a day a week, and businesses could also be involved.

:05:47. > :05:50.Members tell us there is a gap between real-life skills and the

:05:51. > :05:54.kind of skills young people need when they enter into the workplace.

:05:55. > :06:00.Any steps to close that gap, to provide real and meaningful work

:06:01. > :06:06.experience would be welcomed by us and by our members. The current

:06:07. > :06:10.curriculum has been around since the end of the 1980s, but after a

:06:11. > :06:16.turbulent spell for our schools, do they want a calmer period? When

:06:17. > :06:23.would be the right time to look at things? If we take time and get it

:06:24. > :06:30.right, we can avoid the turbulence. So, by the end of the year, all

:06:31. > :06:31.subjects will be considered and the curriculum could look very different

:06:32. > :06:34.in future. Meanwhile, head teachers from every

:06:35. > :06:37.school in Rhondda Cynon Taf have written to Huw Lewis voicing their

:06:38. > :06:40.concerns over last week's GCSE English language results.

:06:41. > :06:42.The letter suggests parents and pupils are losing faith in a

:06:43. > :06:44.once-reliable examination system. The Education minister has called

:06:45. > :06:49.the letter "reckless scaremongering", and says a review

:06:50. > :06:52.of GCSE results is already underway. The family of a man who died from

:06:53. > :06:56.liver disease, but wasn't told for seven years he had the condition,

:06:57. > :06:59.has accused a medical watchdog of refusing to take action against some

:07:00. > :07:02.of the doctors responsible for his care. Carl Nolan's family have

:07:03. > :07:07.complained to the General Medical Council, but say they've had no

:07:08. > :07:12.success in getting answers. The GMC says it does not comment on

:07:13. > :07:16.individual cases. BBC Cymru Wales and the Arts Council

:07:17. > :07:19.of Wales are joining together to find new Welsh musical talent.

:07:20. > :07:22.Unsigned artists and bands can apply online, and 12 will be picked and

:07:23. > :07:27.showcased on radio and festivals over the next year. The Horizons

:07:28. > :07:37.project has won the support of Charlotte Church, who says she

:07:38. > :07:41.understands how difficult it can be. Whilst it has been an incredible

:07:42. > :07:46.experience and a learning experience, it has been really

:07:47. > :07:52.tough. It is re-difficult to try and make a career in music from a cold

:07:53. > :07:56.start. Also, because we are in Wales, we often get overlooked. Lots

:07:57. > :08:00.of people who want to become an artist feel they have to move to

:08:01. > :08:02.London because that is where all the opportunities are, and that is a

:08:03. > :08:10.shame. Let's get the weather forecast now

:08:11. > :08:14.with Behnaz Ackhar. We can look forward to more dry

:08:15. > :08:19.weather, but there will be variable amounts of clout in the forecast.

:08:20. > :08:22.The night, dense fog patches with poor visibility. Quite a bit of

:08:23. > :08:26.low-level cloud and missed, with temperatures getting down to two

:08:27. > :08:33.Celsius. High-pressure remaining in charge. A little bit of clout,

:08:34. > :08:38.perhaps the odd spot of light rain and drizzle to western parts into

:08:39. > :08:41.Friday. First thing tomorrow morning, poor visibility along the

:08:42. > :08:49.border. Leave plenty of time if you are travelling. We will see the day

:08:50. > :08:55.brightening later on, but do check flights if you are travelling as

:08:56. > :09:00.there will be fog in the morning. Cloud and rain across Scotland. In

:09:01. > :09:05.Wales tomorrow afternoon, another glorious afternoon with more

:09:06. > :09:09.sunshine. Some coastal fog lingering into the afternoon, and that could

:09:10. > :09:14.bring down temperatures. Generally, ranging between nine and 14 Celsius

:09:15. > :09:20.with light winds. Tomorrow night, we do it all again. There will be more

:09:21. > :09:24.in the way of clout, and other cold night with temperatures getting down

:09:25. > :09:33.to around two Celsius. Friday will start on a dull note but it will

:09:34. > :09:39.brighten up. The could see the odd spot of light rain or drizzle. Into

:09:40. > :09:49.Saturday, more cloud around and it will be breezy. Over the weekend,

:09:50. > :09:54.breezy and cloudier, so if you are going to the rugby, take an extra W.

:09:55. > :09:57.-- lair. That's all for now.

:09:58. > :10:00.We'll be back with updates in Breakfast from 6:25am. Enjoy the

:10:01. > :10:02.rest of your evening. Good night.
