:00:19. > :00:24.Good evening. The parents of a baby girl who was killed by a pet dog say
:00:25. > :00:28.they hope awareness will be raised about the potential dangers of
:00:29. > :00:31.having dogs around young children. An inquest heard how six-day-old
:00:32. > :00:36.Eliza-Mae Mullane suffered a serious head injury when she was bitten at
:00:37. > :00:40.her home in Pontyberem. The coroner today ruled her death in February
:00:41. > :00:49.was accidental. Cemlyn Davies was at the inquest.
:00:50. > :00:56.They dearly loved daughter who will always be in our hearts, that is how
:00:57. > :01:02.Eliza-Mae described their baby girl following her tragic death. Today,
:01:03. > :01:10.Sharon John and Patrick Mullane arrived for the inquest. The hearing
:01:11. > :01:13.lasted just a few minutes and Eliza-Mae's mother wept as details
:01:14. > :01:19.of that February morning were read out. The inquest heard how Sharon
:01:20. > :01:25.John had been feeding Eliza-Mae when a taxi pulled up outside their home
:01:26. > :01:30.to take her son to school. She put Eliza-Mae to sleep in her cot and
:01:31. > :01:34.closed the living room door. When she returned to the lounge just a
:01:35. > :01:40.short while later, Sharon John found one of the family dogs had forced
:01:41. > :01:43.its way into the room and Eliza-Mae was on the floor, clearly having
:01:44. > :01:50.suffered a serious head injury. The inquest heard a dog had pulled her
:01:51. > :01:52.from the cot and beaten her. Eliza-Mae was taken to the
:01:53. > :01:57.University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where she was pronounced
:01:58. > :02:01.dead. The cause of death was given as compression of the school with
:02:02. > :02:08.intracranial bleeding. Initially, the investigation seemed to focus on
:02:09. > :02:13.a dog like this one but a collie cross was also seized. The inquest
:02:14. > :02:21.did not hear which dog was responsible, but non-had ever shown
:02:22. > :02:25.any signs of aggression. Both have been put down. The coroner said that
:02:26. > :02:29.the baby died as a result of an accident and there was no way her
:02:30. > :02:32.mother could possibly have foreseen what happened. In a statement,
:02:33. > :02:55.Eliza-Mae's father said he hopes... To reason is a dog behaviour wrist
:02:56. > :03:00.who advises parents on how to keep children safe when there is a dog in
:03:01. > :03:05.the house. The most important thing is for parents to understand dog
:03:06. > :03:09.behaviour and to understand the very subtle signs sometimes that dogs are
:03:10. > :03:13.giving to say they're not comfortable around the baby or they
:03:14. > :03:17.are not sure how to behave. Eliza-Mae was less than a week old
:03:18. > :03:21.when she was taken from her parents. Now they are hoping her
:03:22. > :03:26.death can help ensure that no other family suffers in the same way.
:03:27. > :03:29.European funding paid to Pembrokeshire Council to help
:03:30. > :03:33.revitalise two of its towns has been suspended tonight. It comes after
:03:34. > :03:36.the scheme was linked to a police investigation into allegations of
:03:37. > :03:41.fraud. Councillors will meet on Monday to discuss the matter. More
:03:42. > :03:46.from our business correspondent, Brian Meechan.
:03:47. > :03:53.European grants have been available to help develop buildings including
:03:54. > :03:58.shop fronts like these in Pembroke. Local government adviser says they
:03:59. > :04:01.have had a huge impact on the town. A lot of these properties were in
:04:02. > :04:08.disrepair and as you can see, there are a lot of properties which have
:04:09. > :04:14.had a massive face uplift and the town is starting to look up for
:04:15. > :04:21.itself. But concerns were raised for the grant for this building. The
:04:22. > :04:24.funds can only be used for businesses, not residential
:04:25. > :04:29.properties, so it can be spent on the office on the ground floor but
:04:30. > :04:32.not the flat above. The police have confirmed they are investigating an
:04:33. > :04:37.allegation of fraud made by the council. The Welsh government says
:04:38. > :04:39.as a precautionary measure, European fund payments to Pembrokeshire
:04:40. > :04:45.Council for the commercial property grant scheme have been suspended
:04:46. > :04:48.while a review takes place. The opposition on the council argues
:04:49. > :04:53.that something has gone badly wrong with the monitoring of grants. Towns
:04:54. > :04:57.like Pembroke do not desperately need inward investment to get them
:04:58. > :05:03.back to being a vibrant town centre environment. It is a great scheme.
:05:04. > :05:19.-- they do desperately need inward investment. Documents have
:05:20. > :05:25.apparently been shown which show a ?71,000 grant for the building and
:05:26. > :05:33.investigation. Also an individual received a grant of ?1.4 million for
:05:34. > :05:37.properties across the council. These buildings, though, are not under
:05:38. > :05:46.suspicion. The council confirmed that they have referred a leg
:05:47. > :05:50.hilarity is -- irregularities to the police. The suspension of European
:05:51. > :05:55.grants will be discussed here at the council headquarters on Monday, but
:05:56. > :06:00.what is important is what this means for businesses in Pembroke and
:06:01. > :06:03.Pembroke Dock. Two companies have pleaded guilty to
:06:04. > :06:06.breaching safety laws, over the death of five-year-old Karolina
:06:07. > :06:09.Golabek, who was crushed by an electric gate in Bridgend. She
:06:10. > :06:12.became trapped as it closed on her, back in July 2010. John Glen
:06:13. > :06:14.Installation Services and Tremorfa Limited admitted health and safety
:06:15. > :06:20.offences. They're due to be sentenced in June.
:06:21. > :06:23.The Welsh Ambulance service has seen an increased number of calls this
:06:24. > :06:26.week after record levels of air pollution. The Trust has seen a 10%
:06:27. > :06:29.increase in calls relating to breathing problems and chest pains
:06:30. > :06:33.compared with the previous four weeks. It's believed the sudden rise
:06:34. > :06:40.in pollution is down to dust blown over from the Sahara Desert in
:06:41. > :06:44.Africa. The leader of the Welsh Liberal
:06:45. > :06:47.Democrats has stressed how vital it is to Wales that the UK remains in
:06:48. > :06:50.the European Union. Kirsty Williams was speaking ahead of the party's
:06:51. > :06:53.annual conference in Newport this weekend. With European elections
:06:54. > :07:01.next month, the party wants to highlight how important staying in
:07:02. > :07:07.the EU is for Welsh jobs. Let's be clear, in Wales, one in ten
:07:08. > :07:11.Welsh jobs are directly linked to trading with our European partners
:07:12. > :07:15.and I think people want to hear the arguments about why Wales and the UK
:07:16. > :07:18.as a whole should be part of Europe, and Nick Clegg and the
:07:19. > :07:24.Liberal Democrats are the only party willing to take on the challenge.
:07:25. > :07:28.A burglar has been sentenced for trying to make his getaway from an
:07:29. > :07:31.AM's home in a car with the politician's picture and name on it.
:07:32. > :07:34.The Conservative Assembly Member Byron Davies uses the black cab for
:07:35. > :07:37.political duties. Today 32-year-old Patrick O'Brien, from Swansea, was
:07:38. > :07:43.jailed for six years after admitting a number of offences including
:07:44. > :07:46.burglary. The most famous steeple chase in the
:07:47. > :07:50.world takes place tomorrow afternoon, and a horse based here in
:07:51. > :07:52.Wales is the favourite. Teaforthree is trained by Rebecca Curtis in
:07:53. > :07:54.Pembrokeshire, and the 34-year-old says the Grand National is the race
:07:55. > :08:04.every trainer wants to win. I hope he likes the rain because it
:08:05. > :08:12.could be a bit wet at Aintree tomorrow.
:08:13. > :08:21.Yes, it a wet weekend. It is staying mild but it will be windy. But not
:08:22. > :08:26.as windy as earlier on in the year. Through tonight, the rain making its
:08:27. > :08:31.way in from the South West. Hill fog around as well. Temperatures down to
:08:32. > :08:36.about six Celsius. The breeze picks up. Tomorrow morning, a cloudy
:08:37. > :08:41.start. It could linger on well into the afternoon and outbreaks of rain
:08:42. > :08:45.throughout the day. So the rain making its way in from the South
:08:46. > :08:50.West. For the rest of the UK, the rain is confined to western parts.
:08:51. > :08:54.It is making its way northwards and eastwards. Parts of the South East
:08:55. > :08:59.enjoyed the brighter weather. Maybe some hints of brightness with highs
:09:00. > :09:03.of 16. Here, the rain will continue on and off in the afternoon
:09:04. > :09:09.tomorrow. And higher ground we could see him of brightness but it will be
:09:10. > :09:13.limited. Remaining blustery through tomorrow. Tomorrow night, the next
:09:14. > :09:18.weather system making its way in from the West. Coastal fog and hill
:09:19. > :09:22.fog continued but at least it is fairly mild. Temperatures in double
:09:23. > :09:27.figures for all of us into the early hours of Sunday morning. A
:09:28. > :09:32.disappointing start to Sunday. Wet and windy conditions. Moderate or
:09:33. > :09:36.fresh south-westerly wind. But by the afternoon, bright and drier
:09:37. > :09:39.weather from Anglesey right down to Pembrokeshire, and just a few
:09:40. > :09:45.showers following on behind the rain band. Another weather system is
:09:46. > :09:49.bringing rain through Monday. Then hopefully a ridge of high pressure
:09:50. > :09:58.building towards the middle of next week so things will settle down.
:09:59. > :10:01.Back at 6:50pm tomorrow. Have a great weekend.
