:00:00. > :00:08.That's all the sport for now. Many thanks. That's

:00:09. > :00:16.Good evening. There are calls for the most senior medical officer in

:00:17. > :00:19.the Armed Forces to give evidence to the Assembly's health committee. It

:00:20. > :00:23.follows reports that he raised concerns about long waiting times.

:00:24. > :00:25.The Welsh Government has angrily denied suggestions that military

:00:26. > :00:33.personnel here wait longer for treatment than they do in the rest

:00:34. > :00:37.of the UK. Daniel Davies reports. War on Wales. That's what the First

:00:38. > :00:42.Minister calls attacks on the Welsh NHS by the Conservatives and by some

:00:43. > :00:45.newspapers. This morning's papers say there's concern in the top ranks

:00:46. > :00:50.of the military about troops being held up on Welsh waiting lists. A

:00:51. > :00:53.meeting of health officials heard from the Armed Forces' most senior

:00:54. > :00:59.medical officer, Surgeon General Air Marshal Paul Evans. He said there

:01:00. > :01:04.were personnel facing longer waiting times in Wales than elsewhere. He

:01:05. > :01:09.also noted the example of patients being treated quicker thanks to

:01:10. > :01:12.referrals across borders. It's totally misleading to suggest

:01:13. > :01:17.that Welsh military personnel wait longer for treatment, according to

:01:18. > :01:20.the Welsh Government. But some of the Government's opponents want to

:01:21. > :01:23.hear more from the Surgeon General and there's a debate about whether

:01:24. > :01:29.he should come here to answer questions from the Assembly's health

:01:30. > :01:34.committee. It's evidence that the health committee may wish to look at

:01:35. > :01:37.but it hasn't come to me as a member of the committee and it hasn't come

:01:38. > :01:41.to me as a constituency member. No-one has approached me in relation

:01:42. > :01:44.to waits for service personnel. And, in fact, if you look at the Welsh

:01:45. > :01:47.Government's policy, it is actually to prioritise service personnel and

:01:48. > :01:50.their families if they have illnesses through their service

:01:51. > :01:54.actions. Carwyn Jones's aides say he is furious. He wants a Whitehall

:01:55. > :01:59.investigation into how troops have been dragged into a political row

:02:00. > :02:04.about the NHS. The row goes on, with no sign of a truce.

:02:05. > :02:07.Meanwhile, the performance of public services has dominated the final day

:02:08. > :02:11.of the Welsh Liberal Democrat conference in Newport. The party's

:02:12. > :02:14.leader, Kirsty Williams, says the First Minister, Carwyn Jones, is

:02:15. > :02:21.hiding behind public sector staff instead of taking responsibility for

:02:22. > :02:24.what's gone wrong. Being leader of the fourth party in

:02:25. > :02:28.the Assembly isn't always easy, particularly when your colleagues

:02:29. > :02:30.are in government at Westminster. But Kirsty Williams thinks she's

:02:31. > :02:36.found the Welsh Government's weak spot - poor results in health and

:02:37. > :02:39.education. Much of the UK media started saying the same thing but

:02:40. > :02:44.that, she says, just proves the point. These headlines might hurt

:02:45. > :02:51.our sense of national pride but we must not forget... It is Labour that

:02:52. > :02:55.has become Wales's weakest link. It is a Labour government that is

:02:56. > :02:58.holding us back and it's a Labour government and their policies that

:02:59. > :03:02.have become a weight around our nation's neck. A couple of miles

:03:03. > :03:05.from the conference hall, it's public sector workers like these at

:03:06. > :03:08.the Royal Gwent Hospital who've found themselves on the political

:03:09. > :03:11.front line. The First Minister, Carwyn Jones, says attacks on public

:03:12. > :03:16.services are attacks on Wales itself. But Kirsty Williams's

:03:17. > :03:20.argument is that that's nonsense and the people to blame are the people

:03:21. > :03:25.in charge. That's Mr Jones's Welsh Labour government. Labour say the

:03:26. > :03:29.Liberal Democrats are becoming an irrelevance in Welsh politics. But

:03:30. > :03:32.what's very clear is that the performance of public services is

:03:33. > :03:39.going to dominate campaigning in next year's general election and the

:03:40. > :03:42.Assembly elections in 2016. Mountain rescuers taking part in a

:03:43. > :03:47.training exercise had to put their skills to the test for real after a

:03:48. > :03:51.hiker needed help in Snowdonia. Members of the Ogwen Valley team had

:03:52. > :03:55.to carry a man down from Bochlwyd Buttress yesterday, when he slipped

:03:56. > :03:58.in wet conditions. Glamorgan have started this year's

:03:59. > :04:02.County Championship campaign in London today with their first match

:04:03. > :04:04.against Surrey at the Oval. The home side batted first, ending the first

:04:05. > :04:14.day of the four-day match on 182-5. Let's get the weather forecast now -

:04:15. > :04:17.here's Sue Charles. Good evening. After a few wet and

:04:18. > :04:22.windy days, some improvements this week. Turning dryer and more settled

:04:23. > :04:25.midweek. Tonight is dry for a time but mist, low cloud and rain will

:04:26. > :04:28.gradually move back in from the south overnight, so a dull and damp

:04:29. > :04:32.start tomorrow. Cloudy and windy with outbreaks of rain. Clearing

:04:33. > :04:35.northwards. Drier and conditions by the afternoon. Fewer showers and

:04:36. > :04:40.highs of 13 Celsius along the Marches. Tuesday is breezy with

:04:41. > :04:44.variable cloud, isolated showers and turning brighter later. High

:04:45. > :04:48.pressure builds from the south midweek, so things really settle

:04:49. > :04:50.down. Wednesday's fine and dry. Clearer conditions bring colder

:04:51. > :04:54.nights. Cloudier, though, on Thursday.

:04:55. > :04:59.That's Wales Today. We're back in Breakfast from six tomorrow morning.

:05:00. > :05:05.But from everyone on the late team, goodnight.

:05:06. > :05:11.Good evening. After a spell of mild weather, a fresher feel to

:05:12. > :05:15.conditions this week. If you are in Scotland, Northern Ireland and

:05:16. > :05:19.northern enEngland you will get a sense of that through the night with

:05:20. > :05:24.clearer skies. Further south, temperatures will hold steady,

:05:25. > :05:26.cloud, outbreaks of rain extensive through the night, as well
