:00:24. > :00:31.Hello. Good evening. The son of one of the four men who died when a mine

:00:32. > :00:36.was flooded in the Swansea valley, told the court he knew there was no

:00:37. > :00:40.chance of them surviving. Andrew Gyles was working when the disaster

:00:41. > :00:46.happened at the Gleision colliery, more than two years ago.

:00:47. > :00:50.The 15th of September, 2011. Rescuers work frantically at the

:00:51. > :00:55.Gleision mine hoping to save the lives of four men trapped under the

:00:56. > :01:04.ground. But the efforts were in vain. David Powell, Garry Jenkins,

:01:05. > :01:08.Phillip Hill and Charles Wes Lynne, drowned after the water poured into

:01:09. > :01:12.the area where they were working. 275 metres into the mountain. In

:01:13. > :01:17.courts this morning, Mr Powell's son, recalled what happened on the

:01:18. > :01:22.day his father and three other colleagues all died. Giving evidence

:01:23. > :01:28.via a videolink, Andrew Gyles told the jury he was working on the

:01:29. > :01:32.surface, when a miner, Nigel Evans came running from the mine, shouting

:01:33. > :01:37.for him to call the police and the mine rescue. He was asked how long

:01:38. > :01:41.the telephone call lasted. He said he could not speak for long, that he

:01:42. > :01:47.knew his father was down there. He was in shock. The court Howard how

:01:48. > :01:52.Mr Gyles and Mr Evans went into the mine from the main entrance. Asked

:01:53. > :01:57.what he saw, Mr Gyles told the jury, that the water level was so much,

:01:58. > :02:02.that he knew straight away there was no chance for the boys. Mr Gyles

:02:03. > :02:10.said returning to the surface, he found that Malcolm Falfield had

:02:11. > :02:15.managed to escape. He was like a ghost, white as anything. He had

:02:16. > :02:20.another collier's lamp with him. This map shows the size and the

:02:21. > :02:25.complexity of the colliery. This is where the men entered. At the bottom

:02:26. > :02:31.is what is called H 1, or heading 1. This is where Garry Jenkins' body

:02:32. > :02:40.was later found. The other three miners as well as Malcolm Fyfie, ld

:02:41. > :02:48.was also working. This is where the breach was with the water. Enough to

:02:49. > :02:53.fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool. They had not been able to get far

:02:54. > :03:00.enough to see the water but Mr Gyles said he called hear it, like a

:03:01. > :03:06.waterfall, he said. Malcolm Fyfield sat in court confirming that he told

:03:07. > :03:12.the police that the mine manager was a tidy guy he got on well with. He

:03:13. > :03:18.denies four counts of manslaughter, through negligence and there is a

:03:19. > :03:23.denial of corporate manslaughter. The trial is to continue next week.

:03:24. > :03:28.A coroner has said that smoke from a fireworks display was not to blame

:03:29. > :03:33.for a major crash on the M5 that killed seven people, including a

:03:34. > :03:38.couple from Newport. Anthony and Pamela Adams were among those who

:03:39. > :03:43.died in the pile-up. It happened next to a fireworks display at a

:03:44. > :03:46.Rugby Club. There was also thick fog in the area.

:03:47. > :03:53.Every day it is still a mountain to climb. A struggle to get through.

:03:54. > :03:58.You feel you have lost part of your identity. That is my mum and dad.

:03:59. > :04:02.That is not easy. The coroner's recommendations are a

:04:03. > :04:06.positive step forward. A big positive step forward. That is what

:04:07. > :04:09.we were looking for. Moving on, ensuring that this does not happen

:04:10. > :04:14.to anybody else. Two police officers have been

:04:15. > :04:20.convicted of theft in an undercover sting by their even force. Detective

:04:21. > :04:26.sergeant Stephen Phillips stole ?250 from a house in neath. And Detective

:04:27. > :04:30.Constable Jason Evans took two writing pens. The police sources say

:04:31. > :04:34.that the operation was carried out amid concerns about alleged

:04:35. > :04:39.misconduct. They will be sentenced next month. Wales' biggest bus

:04:40. > :04:45.operator is in talks to close a depot and cut the fleet by 10% after

:04:46. > :04:50.a reduction in funding from the Welsh Government. Stagecoach says

:04:51. > :04:54.that the depot, that employs 77 staff could close in July. Some

:04:55. > :05:01.routes to be scrapped and others less frequent with Monmouthshire and

:05:02. > :05:04.Gwent worst-hit. The Welsh Government are disappointed, saying

:05:05. > :05:10.that they will work with the industry to deliver a sustainable

:05:11. > :05:16.bus industry. It costs the taxpayer more than ?3 million but was closed

:05:17. > :05:27.four years within opening. Tonight, the awedors say that the Canolfan

:05:28. > :05:32.Cywain in Bala did not receive the right advice.

:05:33. > :05:37.The Cywain Centre was designed to offer exhibitions on rural life and

:05:38. > :05:42.a culture park and cafe but it struggled to match the numbers

:05:43. > :05:48.predicted to come through the doors. Having used up ?3.4 million of

:05:49. > :05:53.public money, the Cywain Centre closed less than three-and-a-half

:05:54. > :06:01.years after it opened. It was said that the auditors failed to assess

:06:02. > :06:05.the risks on a project such as this. The Wales audit office says that the

:06:06. > :06:09.recommendations echo those that were give no-one the past.

:06:10. > :06:13.The areas where we make the recommendations are around sharing

:06:14. > :06:17.of information on the risks that projects face and secondly, that the

:06:18. > :06:20.funders have a continued responsibility to ensure the best

:06:21. > :06:23.possible outcome for the public purse when a project gets into

:06:24. > :06:28.financial difficulty. The Welsh Government says it has

:06:29. > :06:33.made improvements to the monitoring of projects after earlier criticisms

:06:34. > :06:38.from the Wales auditor office and that the investment has made a

:06:39. > :06:48.difference here. But some argue that the Cywain Centre is not just the

:06:49. > :06:54.only example of wasted money. This economic separation of money

:06:55. > :07:01.should be different from some of these projects.

:07:02. > :07:07.There are political decisions to be made, not economic decisions, that

:07:08. > :07:13.is why we end up with white elephants, across the length and the

:07:14. > :07:18.breadth of Wales. Heart surgeon at the University

:07:19. > :07:27.Hospital in Wales, Cardiff, has been short-listed for the prestigious

:07:28. > :07:40.Asian Woman of Achievement Award. Past winners include the actress,

:07:41. > :07:44.Meera Syal and Shami Chakrabarti -- Chakrabarti.

:07:45. > :07:49.The blue birds, fighting relegation say that they have proof that

:07:50. > :07:54.Crystal Palace obtained their teem sheet the day before the game. The

:07:55. > :07:58.club denies the claims. Gary Monk has played down reports of a

:07:59. > :08:03.training ground bust-up among the players before the defeat to

:08:04. > :08:08.Chelsea. Morning says that nobody has been disciplined and insists

:08:09. > :08:13.that the matter is closed. We have been hoping for decent weather over

:08:14. > :08:17.the Easter break but are we in luck? You are for the first half the

:08:18. > :08:22.weekend. But by the time we get to Sunday it will be wet and windy. A

:08:23. > :08:27.case of how much rain we get. So through tonight. We have had a lot

:08:28. > :08:30.of cloud. It clears from the north. The temperatures dipping away under

:08:31. > :08:37.the clear skies. Colder than last night. The temperatures about two

:08:38. > :08:41.Celsius. After a chilly start, the sunshine gets to work and it starts

:08:42. > :08:47.to feel warmer. High pressure in charge across the United Kingdom.

:08:48. > :08:50.All of us enjoying dry and sunny conditions for Good Friday. Windy

:08:51. > :08:55.along the east coast but for the majority, warm in the sunshine with

:08:56. > :09:00.highs of 14 Celsius. In Wales for Good Friday it is looking glorious.

:09:01. > :09:04.Lots of sunshine, light winds and highs of 14 Celsius. Some cloud but

:09:05. > :09:08.not enough to spoil anything. Tomorrow night, well, underneath the

:09:09. > :09:13.clear skies, the temperatures dip away. If you are planning on going

:09:14. > :09:18.camping, do bear it in mind. The temperatures getting down to one

:09:19. > :09:22.Celsius. Saturday morning, more dry and

:09:23. > :09:26.southerny weather to look forward to but by the afternoon clouding over

:09:27. > :09:28.from the east. All associated with the deep area of low pressure,

:09:29. > :09:30.making its way
