:00:17. > :00:20.Good evening. Two schoolgirls have been arrested

:00:21. > :00:24.on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder following an incident at a

:00:25. > :00:28.school in the Gwent Valleys. Gwent Police said the teenagers, aged 14

:00:29. > :00:32.and 15, were arrested at Cwmcarn High School yesterday, following

:00:33. > :00:36.concerns about their behaviour. It's understood a teacher may have been

:00:37. > :00:40.the intended target. Caroline Evans reports.

:00:41. > :00:43.Police were called to the high school yesteray just before noon

:00:44. > :00:48.following concerns about the behaviour of thwo pupils. They

:00:49. > :00:59.arrested a 15-year-old girl from Newbridge and a 14-year-old girl

:01:00. > :01:03.from Risca. Police say no one was hurt but the two girls were arrested

:01:04. > :01:08.on the suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. The 15-year-old girl

:01:09. > :01:12.was also arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and

:01:13. > :01:15.professional the blade had article on school premises.

:01:16. > :01:17.According to the teaching union the NASUWT it was other pupils who first

:01:18. > :01:21.raised their concerns. Today the school issued a letter

:01:22. > :01:25.saying there was no risk to any staff or learner.

:01:26. > :01:31.It goes on to say Cwmcanr High is a caring and safe environment,

:01:32. > :01:34.committed to everyones safety. Caerphilly council has also issued a

:01:35. > :01:36.statement saying the incident was swiftly dealt with by staff and

:01:37. > :01:51.Gwent Police. Gwent Police say the two girls were

:01:52. > :01:54.realeased on police bail pending further inquiries.

:01:55. > :01:57.Last night we brought you an exclusive report on the poor

:01:58. > :02:03.treatment of Veronica Teal at the Bethshan Nursing Home in Newtown.

:02:04. > :02:07.Today her family were given details of a Social Services report into her

:02:08. > :02:15.care. But they say they've been left outraged and disappointed. India

:02:16. > :02:21.Pollock reports. Alone and scared, this is how

:02:22. > :02:24.73-year-old Veronica Teal was found after her family installed a camera

:02:25. > :02:32.in her room at Bethshan Nursing Home.

:02:33. > :02:39.They were concerned at how upset she seemed after being at the home for

:02:40. > :02:43.only a few days. Today the family met with social services to hear the

:02:44. > :02:48.outcome of an investigation into the neglect and verbal abuse that she

:02:49. > :02:52.suffered at the home. But they are not happy. Every complaint we have

:02:53. > :02:54.put in they have upheld and they say it is exceptionally poor practice

:02:55. > :03:01.and what happened should never have happened. She cried but she is

:03:02. > :03:07.angry. She cannot understand why we have had this meeting to do with a

:03:08. > :03:11.report which we cannot have. Social services say that Veronica Teal can

:03:12. > :03:15.only have a copy of the reported she requests it in a letter but they say

:03:16. > :03:20.they will continue to support the family. We are monitored by CCTV

:03:21. > :03:23.every day of our lives, at work and on transport and when shopping but

:03:24. > :03:29.should it be used to protect us when we are at our most vulnerable. Some

:03:30. > :03:32.say it is a careful balance between dignity and protection. There are

:03:33. > :03:51.big questions that need to be answered before any of this comes

:03:52. > :03:53.into play. That would be who view the footage. I would suggest it is

:03:54. > :03:55.only family or management or perhaps the Inspectorate bodies with the

:03:56. > :03:58.position -- permission of the family. How would it be viewed and

:03:59. > :04:01.how would it be stored and how would your insured the footage was secure.

:04:02. > :04:03.Parodic Teal spent just under three months at Bethshan Nursing Home and

:04:04. > :04:05.the home is closely connected with a Pentecostal church who say the

:04:06. > :04:09.issues have been addressed with staff training and a member of staff

:04:10. > :04:12.has been disciplined. Elderly who go into any home deserve a high

:04:13. > :04:19.standard of compassionate care when that breaks down I think we must be

:04:20. > :04:25.ruthless about it. I really think I must read the report from social

:04:26. > :04:31.services. Today figures show that there are nearly 600,000 people over

:04:32. > :04:35.65 in Wales and nearly 12,000 live in care homes. One company is

:04:36. > :04:40.consulting on whether to put CCTV cameras into homes to protect the

:04:41. > :04:42.staff and residents. For Veronica Teal the camera was essential in

:04:43. > :04:46.exposing the poor care and the neglect that she suffered.

:04:47. > :04:49.There's been a significant increase in the number of complaints by

:04:50. > :04:52.hospital patients about the way they're treated. Figures obtained by

:04:53. > :04:56.Plaid Cymru show that between 2009 and 2010, and 2012 and 13 -

:04:57. > :04:59.complaints soared by 40%. A Welsh government spokesperson says most

:05:00. > :05:05.people say they're happy with their care and the rise shows people are

:05:06. > :05:08.engaged with the service. Four men from Newport have appeared

:05:09. > :05:12.in court accused of an attempted revenge killing. Lewis Bridge,

:05:13. > :05:15.Brogan Hooper, Gary Rab-johns and Ryan Battersby are accused of

:05:16. > :05:27.shooting three people in a car last September. Jordan Davies has more.

:05:28. > :05:34.And attempted revenge killing in the middle of a Newport Street. This is

:05:35. > :05:39.what was left of the car, allegedly rammed off the road by a jeep

:05:40. > :05:44.carrying four men from the city. It is claimed today then shot twice at

:05:45. > :05:49.the three people inside with a shotgun. The jury heard how CCTV

:05:50. > :05:54.captured the Jeep following the car out of a nearby housing estate and

:05:55. > :05:58.then it rammed it, possibly twice, on the main road. It caused it to

:05:59. > :06:04.eventually crash into the side of this pub, not far from the city

:06:05. > :06:11.centre. The gang and the Jeep have never been found. The gun and the

:06:12. > :06:15.Jeep have never been found. These men are all charged with three

:06:16. > :06:19.counts of conspiracy to murder. The prosecution said that the deliberate

:06:20. > :06:24.ramming and the discharge of two rounds showed a clear intention to

:06:25. > :06:29.kill those inside the car. The court heard that the attempted killings

:06:30. > :06:33.were a revenge attack as days before one of the defendants, Brogan

:06:34. > :06:38.Hooper, had been robbed of money and drugs by two of the victims. All

:06:39. > :06:40.four men deny all of the charges and the case continues.

:06:41. > :06:45.The Welsh Liberal Democrats have launched their campaign for the

:06:46. > :06:49.European elections. Visiting a design company in Llandrindod Wells,

:06:50. > :06:52.they said one Welsh job in ten depends on trade with the EU and

:06:53. > :06:55.pro-European voters should vote for them. The party's hoping to win its

:06:56. > :07:03.first ever Welsh seat in the European parliament. We are setting

:07:04. > :07:08.out our stall, as I said, and inviting people to actually stand up

:07:09. > :07:11.if you like against the tide of Euro scepticism and xenophobia and say

:07:12. > :07:15.that this is not what Britain is about and it is not what Wales is

:07:16. > :07:20.about and we are happy with the Wales that is secure in Britain and

:07:21. > :07:23.secure in Europe and that is good for the jobs and the economy and we

:07:24. > :07:29.invite people to vote for us and stem that I'd.

:07:30. > :07:32.Firefighters across Wales walked out this afternoon in a continuing row

:07:33. > :07:35.over pensions. It's part of a series of strikes with action on Saturday

:07:36. > :07:38.and Sunday. The UK Government says it's offering firefighters one of

:07:39. > :07:40.the most generous public sector pension schemes.

:07:41. > :07:43.Rugby and the Scarlets have qualified for next seasons elite

:07:44. > :07:47.European Champions Cup with a win over the Dragons at Parc Y Scarlets.

:07:48. > :07:50.Ken Owens crossed the line to score the bonus point try and Rhys

:07:51. > :07:54.Priestland kicked 14 for the Scarlets. Final score 34-23. It

:07:55. > :08:00.means they're guaranteed to finish in the top six.

:08:01. > :08:07.Time for the all important Bank Holiday weather forecast now, and

:08:08. > :08:12.it's not looking too bad is it, Sue? It is not too bad. It has mostly

:08:13. > :08:16.settled but not completely, some cloud and son around and a little

:08:17. > :08:21.rain as well. The detail is tricky. If we look at the map tonight most

:08:22. > :08:26.of Wales stays dry and it is cloudy in the West. Clearer skies further

:08:27. > :08:30.east with a risk of slight frost. Less cold along the West Coast.

:08:31. > :08:35.Tomorrow high-pressure over the UK but a warm front will push on from

:08:36. > :08:39.the Atlantic later in the day. A chilly start and then largely dry

:08:40. > :08:43.with sunny spells through the morning and similar for much of the

:08:44. > :08:46.UK and the south and East holds onto the sun for longer stand the cloud

:08:47. > :08:53.thickens through the West into Scotland. Some rain suppresses the

:08:54. > :08:57.temperatures here. It is warmest in south-east England. Later in Wales

:08:58. > :09:01.it is brighter further east but it turns cloudier in the West with a

:09:02. > :09:08.little rain arriving in the north and west with highs of 11 or 15. The

:09:09. > :09:13.cloud will thicken for much of the night and a few spots of drizzle do

:09:14. > :09:18.not amount to much. The South East holds onto the brightness on Sunday

:09:19. > :09:21.for longest but it is largely cloudy with rain in the north and west that

:09:22. > :09:25.tries to spread eastwards and the breeze picks up as well. On bank

:09:26. > :09:28.holiday Monday looks dry but that is probably the warmest day with a

:09:29. > :09:33.thick cloud and some rain making its way in from the west later in the

:09:34. > :09:37.day. A low pressure system guides friends in from the land to glitter

:09:38. > :09:41.on Monday, pushing away the high pressure that has been keeping

:09:42. > :09:49.things settled towards eastern Europe. Fine weather, often cloudier

:09:50. > :09:52.in the West and turning wet and windy midweek. Thank you very much.

:09:53. > :09:55.And that is Wales Today. We'll have updates for over the Bank Holiday

:09:56. > :09:59.weekend, starting at 6:40pm tomorrow evening. For now though, from all of

:10:00. > :10:01.us here, good night.
