:00:17. > :00:22.Good evening. Thunder storms and torrential rain have caused flash
:00:23. > :00:26.flooding across south Wales today. The worst affected areas were
:00:27. > :00:29.Penarth and Cwmbran. An elderly couple had to be rescued from their
:00:30. > :00:33.home as intense downpours hit, and the Fire Service had more than a
:00:34. > :00:44.hundred 999 calls, as well as many requests for sandbags. Matt Murray
:00:45. > :00:49.reports. And our's worth of rain destroying
:00:50. > :00:53.months of hard work. This man is only recently refurbished his home
:00:54. > :00:58.when Flash Rose brought down part of us living room wall, destroying
:00:59. > :01:11.furniture and family pictures -- flash floods. We are waiting to hear
:01:12. > :01:16.evidence saved to go back in. On the seafront, it was equally as bad.
:01:17. > :01:22.This shows how high the water came. As it is almost a couple feet deep,
:01:23. > :01:25.this road was impossible. The rainwater has disappeared almost as
:01:26. > :01:29.quickly as it arrived. The damage has still been felt as many
:01:30. > :01:36.buildings here were affected by the floods. The club has been cleared of
:01:37. > :01:42.since the waters rush through the front door. It came straight
:01:43. > :01:47.through. We are finished almost hiding this up now. This man told me
:01:48. > :01:55.how the floors were covered in thick black drain water. This is what the
:01:56. > :02:07.rest of the floor did look like. We have hosted down. It was filthy. It
:02:08. > :02:11.was smelly. Here this road was underwater and a nearby fire station
:02:12. > :02:17.was flooded. An elderly couple had to be rescued from their home as the
:02:18. > :02:25.storm hit. 170 calls were received in two hours by the patrol centre.
:02:26. > :02:28.Report of houses flooded, electrics in businesses affected, said they
:02:29. > :02:35.were evacuating. Roadways in a dangerous condition. We had three
:02:36. > :02:43.live risks in that we had to send fire engines to rescue people from
:02:44. > :02:54.their homes. Knows the rainwater has now gone but the cleric is
:02:55. > :02:57.continuing by many -- most of. Letters to staff at an events
:02:58. > :03:01.company in Cwmcarn near Caerphilly, shown to Wales Today, reveal the
:03:02. > :03:04.majority of the 150 workers are facing redundancy. Freeman UK, which
:03:05. > :03:08.describes itself as one of the most influential companies in the UK,
:03:09. > :03:10.will shed jobs in July and close its base by December. Earlier on, our
:03:11. > :03:14.reporter Paul Heaney explained why the jobs are at risk.
:03:15. > :03:17.The American company that owned the site behind me had decided to
:03:18. > :03:20.centralise some of the operations that it owns in the UK by building a
:03:21. > :03:24.new headquarters in the Midlands. They make the kind of equipment and
:03:25. > :03:29.staging and backdrop seen at big events and big conference halls
:03:30. > :03:33.here. We understand around 150 people work here, and from speaking
:03:34. > :03:36.to some of the workers today, I understand some of them have been
:03:37. > :03:39.offered jobs at that new headquarters near Coventry in the
:03:40. > :03:42.Midlands, but they've told me some of the terms and conditions there
:03:43. > :03:53.been offered are worse than the terms and conditions they are on
:03:54. > :03:57.here. -- they have been offered. Many feel they'll be worse off if
:03:58. > :04:00.they were to take the company up on the offer and up sticks and move to
:04:01. > :04:05.Coventry. Many have received redundancy notices. We have seen
:04:06. > :04:09.some of them today and they suggest that some workers will leave at the
:04:10. > :04:13.end of July this year.. Others will leave in December at the end of the
:04:14. > :04:15.year and that raises the prospect that this site could shut
:04:16. > :04:19.completely. Some admin staff could move the Newport but this site may
:04:20. > :04:23.not be in operation as of December. We tried to contact Freeman UK to
:04:24. > :04:28.ask their side of the story, for their plans, but they have not
:04:29. > :04:32.returned our calls. A man from Ogmore Vale, who waited
:04:33. > :04:35.four and a half hours outside a hospital in an ambulance because
:04:36. > :04:38.there was no room in the A department, did not die because of
:04:39. > :04:41.the delay, a coroner has ruled. Michael Bowen, who was 58 and
:04:42. > :04:44.suffered from alcohol misuse, was taken by ambulance to the Princess
:04:45. > :04:48.of Wales Hospital, in Bridgend, in January this year. Mr Bowen died
:04:49. > :04:53.after a seizure, hours after being admitted. The coroner recorded a
:04:54. > :04:56.narrative verdict. Prestatyn's Nova Centre could be up
:04:57. > :04:59.for a ?3.5 million revamp. Denbighshire council closed it
:05:00. > :05:03.earlier this year because it was losing money. Now the authority is
:05:04. > :05:07.being asked to give the go ahead to a study which could lead to a major
:05:08. > :05:15.upgrade. If approved work may be completed as early as July next
:05:16. > :05:19.year. It's the first of its kind in
:05:20. > :05:22.Britain - a project using sea water instead of oil for heat. The
:05:23. > :05:26.National Trust has introduced the new system at their Plas Newydd site
:05:27. > :05:29.on Anglesey - the most expensive of all its 29,000 properties to heat.
:05:30. > :05:38.The conversion is expected to save ?40,000 a year, using water from the
:05:39. > :05:44.nearby Menai Strait. This house consumes 100,000 litres
:05:45. > :05:49.of oil in a year. On simple economics we knew something had to
:05:50. > :05:57.happen here and we've got a vast recharging heat source right in
:05:58. > :06:00.front of the house. Football - and Cardiff City and
:06:01. > :06:03.Wales striker Craig Bellamy has announced his retirement from
:06:04. > :06:06.football. His career saw him play for some of Britain's biggest clubs
:06:07. > :06:11.and gain almost 80 caps for his country. Sachin Krishnan reports.
:06:12. > :06:14.Celebrating in his final match as a professional. This strike against
:06:15. > :06:17.Chelsea by Craig Bellamy was ultimately credited as an own goal
:06:18. > :06:21.but there are plenty of other moments for him to look back with
:06:22. > :06:25.pride. After making his name as youngster with Norwich, he went on
:06:26. > :06:27.to play for clubs of the stature of Liverpool and Newcastle. His often
:06:28. > :06:30.fiery and confrontational manner meant there were public fallings out
:06:31. > :06:37.with team-mates, but managers continued to pay big money to bring
:06:38. > :06:40.him to their clubs. By the time of his international retirement last
:06:41. > :06:43.year, only four men had scored more goals for Wales. The highlight
:06:44. > :06:48.undoubtably the winner against Italy at the Millennium Stadium. His first
:06:49. > :06:52.spell at home-town club Cardiff City failed to produce the Premier league
:06:53. > :06:58.promotion he craved. But on his return the dream was achieved,
:06:59. > :07:01.albeit followed by relegation. In announcing his retirement at the age
:07:02. > :07:05.of 34, Craig Bellamy has said he'll now plan to move into management
:07:06. > :07:14.with an ambition of one day being in charge of the Wales team.
:07:15. > :07:16.The Welsh Rugby Union has confirmed that's its preparing for an
:07:17. > :07:20.Extraordinary General Meeting of the governing body. The meeting has been
:07:21. > :07:23.triggered by 43 clubs, including the four regions - in a campaign
:07:24. > :07:26.orchestrated by former WRU chief executive David Moffett. Today he
:07:27. > :07:29.went to the WRU's headquarters in Cardiff to deliver letters from the
:07:30. > :07:34.clubs - who are are unhappy with the way the game is currently being run.
:07:35. > :07:37.This is about 50 odd clubs deciding they have had enough with the way in
:07:38. > :07:43.which the WRU treats them, especially over the leagues and a
:07:44. > :07:47.whole lot of other issues. I've been a conduit. They have signed, I think
:07:48. > :07:58.possibly the most ever to have signed, calling for an EGM. They are
:07:59. > :08:05.deeply unhappy. Flash flooding earlier today. Are we
:08:06. > :08:10.out of the woods, Benny? We do have more showers to come. They could be
:08:11. > :08:18.thundery through much of tomorrow morning. Here is the radar showing
:08:19. > :08:25.the extent of the showers. It last strength as it moved north. Through
:08:26. > :08:29.tonight we have another batch of showers making their way from the
:08:30. > :08:34.south, hopefully going through quickly. Overnight temperatures of
:08:35. > :08:38.nine to 12 Celsius, quite breezy. The reason for the unsettled
:08:39. > :08:45.conditions is as low pressure sitting across us, bringing a series
:08:46. > :08:51.of weather systems. Things will remain unsettled into the weekend.
:08:52. > :08:55.Though showers continue their journey north and west and they
:08:56. > :09:00.could be thundery at times. Quite breezy across the west Coast. The
:09:01. > :09:09.best of the dry and bright aroma across South east weather -- bright
:09:10. > :09:14.weather. Here in Wales tomorrow afternoon there is more heavy
:09:15. > :09:17.downpours. No warnings in place for the showers but they could be
:09:18. > :09:23.released, so keep an eye on the forecast. Highs of 12 or 15 Celsius.
:09:24. > :09:28.More showers continued tomorrow night. A repeat performance into
:09:29. > :09:32.early hours of Saturday morning. Saturday is probably the worst day
:09:33. > :09:39.of the weekend. We will see heavy and thundery down pours through the
:09:40. > :09:42.day. Then on Sunday, fewer showers in comparison. Certainly by the
:09:43. > :09:47.afternoon is looking drier and brighter with the best of the
:09:48. > :09:51.weather to on Monday. S And that is Wales Today. We'll be
:09:52. > :09:53.back from around 6.25am in the morning. For now though from all of
:09:54. > :10:16.us here, good night. Oh, yes,
:10:17. > :10:20.I bet you are well jel, in't it. part of the Big Bumper Bank Holiday
:10:21. > :10:23.Comedy 50th Birthday Weekend.
