:00:22. > :00:25.The man in charge of policing the NATO summit in Newport says

:00:26. > :00:27.the security, in places, will be more rigorous than the

:00:28. > :00:31.London Olympic Games and will "break new ground" for a British event.

:00:32. > :00:35.Assistant Chief Constable Chris Armitt says thousands of police

:00:36. > :00:38.It comes as protestors in Newport tell BBC Wales there are already

:00:39. > :00:48.plans for a large demonstration in the city before the summit.

:00:49. > :01:05.Scenes from the last NATO summit. Thousands of demonstrators clashing

:01:06. > :01:13.with police in protest that cost the city millions. The number of

:01:14. > :01:18.countries coming and their heads of state and attendant diplomats will

:01:19. > :01:26.push the number of protected did people up. That includes the London

:01:27. > :01:32.Olympic Games in 2012 which was protected by soldiers, warships and

:01:33. > :01:36.even missiles. One group have taken over this restaurant in the centre

:01:37. > :01:41.of Newport and they are hosting discussions on antinuclear

:01:42. > :01:46.campaigning, workers rights and even lessons in basic first aid. Many I

:01:47. > :01:50.have spoken to have come from all over the UK to be here and say that

:01:51. > :01:56.they will be back for the NATO summit in September. On the 30th of

:01:57. > :02:00.August there will be a trade union led demonstration through Newport

:02:01. > :02:08.which presumably will be pretty massive with people attending from

:02:09. > :02:14.all over the country. These scenes give an idea of what might be about

:02:15. > :02:18.to descend on Newport and Wales. Those charged with security and

:02:19. > :02:27.safety say that they are ready. We will know in 100 days. Just under

:02:28. > :02:31.50% of ambulances reached their eighth minute target, still short of

:02:32. > :02:39.the Welsh Government target of 65%. eighth minute target, still short of

:02:40. > :02:41.Police are investigating claims that a child at a Carmarthenshire nursery

:02:42. > :02:44.was assaulted by a member of staff. Dyfed-Powys Police said they were

:02:45. > :02:47.called over an allegation at the Welsh-medium Clych Meithrin

:02:48. > :02:49.that serves the villages of Cefneithin and Gorslas.

:02:50. > :02:52.Officers are working with the Local Safeguarding Children Board

:02:53. > :03:01.and the Care and Social Services In spirit to it for Wales. --

:03:02. > :03:09.Inspectorate. More than a third of people in Wales

:03:10. > :03:12.admit to being racially prejudiced, one of the biggest increases in the

:03:13. > :03:16.UK since the turn of the century. That's according to new research

:03:17. > :03:18.from the British Social Attitudes Survey.

:03:19. > :03:21.It found that 34% of us have some level of prejudice,

:03:22. > :03:24.a rise of 14% since 2000. The Welsh Government has described

:03:25. > :03:29.the findings as concerning. More people in Wales say they are

:03:30. > :03:33.prejudiced when it comes to race. This man from the Swansea area has

:03:34. > :03:37.been arrested four times for racially aggravated assault. He

:03:38. > :03:44.spoke to me anonymously about how he used to abuse asylum seekers in his

:03:45. > :03:52.neighbourhood. I would shout at them and tell them this is the UK. You do

:03:53. > :03:58.not talk that language here. It was probably because of jobs. My father

:03:59. > :04:02.used to say they took the jobs. You have the BNP saying stuff, the

:04:03. > :04:08.National front. You do not know who to believe. He has now met people

:04:09. > :04:13.from different backgrounds and feels very differently. It is not the

:04:14. > :04:20.right thing to do. They are not here to bomb or threaten us, they just

:04:21. > :04:23.want to live peacefully. This ethnic youth support team has spoken to 200

:04:24. > :04:29.young people in the past two years about similar issues. They have

:04:30. > :04:33.introduced them to people with different backgrounds and have

:04:34. > :04:39.changed misconceptions. The majority of young people we speak to are not

:04:40. > :04:46.racist but have strong reactions to what they see in the news. It is

:04:47. > :04:49.just misconceptions and once they have been educated on these topics

:04:50. > :04:56.they know the truth and their views change. I think right across the UK

:04:57. > :05:02.economic austerity is a powerful factor in people developing the

:05:03. > :05:06.Judas. Scapegoats for the problems they find themselves in. So it is

:05:07. > :05:11.not surprising at a time of economic difficulty that you will find these

:05:12. > :05:20.views. But the same survey suggests that around 70% do not hold these

:05:21. > :05:22.views so let us not create too dark picture. So more of us are prepared

:05:23. > :05:28.to admit we have a degree of prejudice. What the figures today do

:05:29. > :05:36.not fully explain is why more of us are discriminating on the grounds of

:05:37. > :05:45.race. A leading charity has warned that targets to a radically child

:05:46. > :05:49.poverty by 2020 will not be met. -- to eradicate. It says there needs to

:05:50. > :05:54.be a focus on families where parents work but are on low wages. 33% of

:05:55. > :06:00.children here live in poverty, higher than the UK average of 27%.

:06:01. > :06:07.We are talking about the triple whammy effect which is slow wage

:06:08. > :06:13.growth, cuts in social security expenditure and cost in living

:06:14. > :06:19.expenses rising. These combine to make that target very challenging.

:06:20. > :06:26.The Heritage lottery fund is to give almost ?3 million to safeguard the

:06:27. > :06:41.family home of one poet and turn it into a museum. Two Welsh actors have

:06:42. > :06:46.been nominated for prestigious American television awards. Matthew

:06:47. > :06:49.Rees has been short listed for a critic 's choice award for his part

:06:50. > :06:56.in the Americans and Michael Sheen for his role. Sport and Cardiff City

:06:57. > :07:01.have confirmed they have signed striker Adam Lafond from Redding for

:07:02. > :07:06.an undisclosed fee. He will join the Italian striker in the bluebirds

:07:07. > :07:16.squad after he joined on a free transfer. The 22-year-old has a

:07:17. > :07:21.three year deal. Cricket and the weather ruined Glamorgan?s push for

:07:22. > :07:24.victory in their match against Leicestershire in spite of regular

:07:25. > :07:32.stoppages, Glamorgan got themselves within a couple of wickets of

:07:33. > :07:37.success. But when the rain intervened again this evening the

:07:38. > :07:43.match was called off as a draw. The Queen?s Bateau relay has been

:07:44. > :07:47.touring Pembrokeshire. It began with a visit to Saint Davids Cathedral

:07:48. > :07:53.where it got a special blessing and then continued north. It ended the

:07:54. > :07:59.day in the Kansas. Tomorrow it will head up Snowdon on the start of its

:08:00. > :08:07.journey through North Wales. Let us hope that the weather will be good

:08:08. > :08:11.for that. It is going to be dull and foggy on

:08:12. > :08:17.the top of Snowdon tomorrow and quite chilly. But better prospects

:08:18. > :08:23.for Anglesey and it should be dry by the time the Bateau arrives late in

:08:24. > :08:31.the afternoon. For tonight it is cloudy with rain and drizzle around.

:08:32. > :08:36.Drier in the South West. Some mist and hill fog as well. And mild

:08:37. > :08:43.across the rest of the UK. A murky start tomorrow with some fog patches

:08:44. > :08:48.on the Brecon Beacons. It should be dry in Pembrokeshire and Swansea.

:08:49. > :08:56.For the rest of the country we have some mist and fog patches which will

:08:57. > :09:01.slowly lift. Some drizzle into Scotland and northern Ireland. For

:09:02. > :09:06.the Midlands and southern England the sun will break through but this

:09:07. > :09:14.will trigger some showers. Still quite cool on the East Coast. A high

:09:15. > :09:18.of 18 degrees in Cardiff. So in Wales tomorrow afternoon, there will

:09:19. > :09:24.be showers around and if you catch one that would be quite heavy with

:09:25. > :09:28.thunder and lightning. On Friday there will be some more showers here

:09:29. > :09:36.and there but they will be hit and miss. It will feel quite warm

:09:37. > :09:39.weather sun breaks through and that sets the scene for the weekend.

:09:40. > :09:46.Saturday mostly dry with some sunshine. The odd shower on Sunday

:09:47. > :09:53.but all in all not a bad weekend. And that is all for now. Wales

:09:54. > :09:57.report is next. Kirsty Williams talks about her continued support

:09:58. > :10:01.for Nick Clegg. That is coming next. Good night.
