:00:18. > :00:21.The man in charge of a Welsh hospital where people were said to

:00:22. > :00:24.be regularly dying while waiting for heart surgery says cardiac

:00:25. > :00:29.Last year the Royal College of Surgeons told BBC Wales heart

:00:30. > :00:32.patients at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff were waiting too

:00:33. > :00:50.I came in one week last Tuesday. Anthony is recovering from a triple

:00:51. > :00:54.bypass operation at University Hospital of Wales. He waited eight

:00:55. > :00:59.months. That was within the nine-month target of the Welsh

:01:00. > :01:02.government. He is happy with his treatment but was worried when last

:01:03. > :01:12.year senior surgeons said people were regularly dying while waiting

:01:13. > :01:15.for heart surgery at the hospital. It is worrying because you are

:01:16. > :01:22.waiting for a dive pass -- bypass and people are dying before they get

:01:23. > :01:28.one. Last year the Royal College of Surgeons told BBC Wales it was

:01:29. > :01:32.concerned that in five years 152 patients died while waiting for

:01:33. > :01:37.heart surgery in South Wales. The figure was later revised down to

:01:38. > :01:43.around 100. It also said that cardiac waiting times at the

:01:44. > :01:47.University Hospital of Wales were a serious patient safety issue. The

:01:48. > :01:51.story was headline news across the country. A high number of heart

:01:52. > :01:56.patients in Wales die while waiting for operations. It was a hot topic

:01:57. > :02:00.in Parliament. There are people on NHS waiting lists who are dying in

:02:01. > :02:03.Wales because the lists are too long. Now the Royal College of

:02:04. > :02:07.Surgeons says that while there is still substantial work to do there

:02:08. > :02:11.have been improvements. We have reduced the number of people who are

:02:12. > :02:18.waiting much longer than they should, 36 week weights have dropped

:02:19. > :02:24.by half and our plan is to secure a pathway for patients that means they

:02:25. > :02:27.get their surgery much more quickly. The Royal College of Surgeons says

:02:28. > :02:32.there are still concerns about the delays in cardiac patient care with

:02:33. > :02:35.some operations being made more complicated due to the condition is

:02:36. > :02:40.getting worse over time. The hospital says it has now taken on

:02:41. > :02:46.more surgeons and nurses and it is now carrying out cardiac surgery on

:02:47. > :02:51.the weekend. It has replaced old surgical equipment in patients who

:02:52. > :02:55.are not receiving heart surgery are not allowed to use cardiac beds. The

:02:56. > :02:59.Royal College of Surgeons says it will continue to take any interest

:03:00. > :03:03.in the surgical services of the health board and the health board

:03:04. > :03:10.says it has got some way to go but it says it is moving forward.

:03:11. > :03:12.A yacht club has been fined ?40,000 after an 11-year-old girl

:03:13. > :03:15.suffered brain damage when two boats crashed in Cardiff Bay.

:03:16. > :03:17.Two teenage instructors who weren't qualified

:03:18. > :03:20.for night driving were carrying 13 girls when they collided, throwing

:03:29. > :03:31.Nicholas Sawyer has been ordered to carry out community service.

:03:32. > :03:33.The boat drivers were cleared at an earlier hearing.

:03:34. > :03:35.There'll be some disruption to bus services in Gwynedd

:03:36. > :03:40.as an operating firm in the area is to close with the loss of 84 jobs.

:03:41. > :03:43.Padarn Bus, which runs routes from Bangor, Caernarfon, Llanberis and

:03:44. > :03:46.across to Beaumaris on Anglesey says it'll stop at midnight tonight.

:03:47. > :03:48.Gwynedd council says it's looking for firms to run

:03:49. > :03:52.The announcement comes a day after North Wales Police confirmed

:03:53. > :03:56.they were investigating allegations of fraud at the company.

:03:57. > :04:04.A woman who's 28, and a 44-year-old man have been arrested.

:04:05. > :04:07.The First Minister has told BBC Wales it's important to

:04:08. > :04:09.understand why people voted for the UK Independence Party

:04:10. > :04:13.Labour topped the poll in the election here with UKIP

:04:14. > :04:17.Carwyn Jones says he's happy his party came first

:04:18. > :04:26.but he's disappointed by the size of the UKIP vote.

:04:27. > :04:34.Clearly disappointed at the size of the UKIP vote and that few people

:04:35. > :04:38.turned out. It is difficult to understand what the message was from

:04:39. > :04:40.people who voted UKIP and they voted UKIP for a number of reasons we must

:04:41. > :04:45.The family of a severely disabled teenager from Pembrokeshire has lost

:04:46. > :04:47.their High Court challenge over the so-called bedroom tax.

:04:48. > :04:49.Paul and Susan Rutherford need carers to

:04:50. > :04:52.stay overnight to help them look after their grandson Warren.

:04:53. > :04:55.But last year their housing benefit was cut because their third

:04:56. > :05:01.Hundreds of jobs are on their way to Wrexham after the announcement that

:05:02. > :05:04.Lends Lease was awarded the contract to build a ?212 million super prison

:05:05. > :05:09.Half of the estimated one-thousand jobs available will go to people

:05:10. > :05:15.Work on the largest prison in the UK is expected to start in August.

:05:16. > :05:18.It's the final day of the Queen's Baton Relay in Wales.

:05:19. > :05:21.It started the day at Rhyl harbour, travelling to the summit of

:05:22. > :05:26.It went on to a hand over ceremony at Llandegla Forest this evening,

:05:27. > :05:33.In the last few minutes, Wales coach Warren Gatland has named his squad

:05:34. > :05:41.Live to Ashleigh Crowter where tonight's trial match was played.

:05:42. > :05:55.Hello, the plane for South Africa leaves on Thursday and we now know

:05:56. > :06:01.the names of the 32 players who have booked their tickets for the two

:06:02. > :06:05.test tour. It has already been an emotional night here and we are in a

:06:06. > :06:09.room at the moment where there are a few players mingling around and

:06:10. > :06:13.their players families were here for the official announcement as well.

:06:14. > :06:16.There was huge applause with the announcement that Matthew Rees, the

:06:17. > :06:22.Cardiff blues cooker would be going on the tour to South Africa. You

:06:23. > :06:25.will remember that he suffered from testicular cancer this year and he

:06:26. > :06:29.has had chemotherapy and many wondered whether he could play again

:06:30. > :06:32.but he has made a full comeback and captained the team tonight and he

:06:33. > :06:36.has been selected for the tour to South Africa and a lot of people are

:06:37. > :06:40.very pleased about that. A remarkable comeback. Also Matthew

:06:41. > :06:44.Morgan, the utility back from the ospreys has been selected after a

:06:45. > :06:48.wonderful cameo in tonight's trial match. As I ran down the list of

:06:49. > :06:51.other players who are in, Gareth Davies from the Scarlet 's,

:06:52. > :06:57.scrum-half who made a real impression scoring the only try for

:06:58. > :07:01.the Possibles team who were well beaten. He scored a try for them and

:07:02. > :07:06.that has earned him a place on the tour, one of three scrum-half 's to

:07:07. > :07:11.go. Dan Baker from the ospreys has been selected for the tour and also

:07:12. > :07:15.Steven Shingler. He is from the Charlotte 's Andy utility back. He

:07:16. > :07:18.will join his brother Aaron Schindler on the tour and you will

:07:19. > :07:22.remember Steven Shingler almost moved to Scotland a few seasons ago

:07:23. > :07:27.but was not allowed to play for them and he has got his award by being

:07:28. > :07:32.called up for Wales. Cory Allen is also win. That means there is no

:07:33. > :07:35.place for Gavin Henson on the tour and the squad to meet up on Monday

:07:36. > :07:37.for two days of training before leaving for South Africa on

:07:38. > :07:42.Thursday. Thank you very much indeed.

:07:43. > :07:45.Cricket, and Glamorgan won their T20 fixture against Sussex at the

:07:46. > :07:49.Swalec Stadium by five wickets on the last ball with West Indian

:07:50. > :07:51.all-rounder Darren Sammy hitting the winning runs on his debut.

:07:52. > :07:56.It's been a very wet May hasn't it, but any sunshine on

:07:57. > :08:09.Yes, there is, believe it or not. Keep the sun glasses handy. It has

:08:10. > :08:13.been a very wet May and the wettest since 2007 so we could really do

:08:14. > :08:17.with a couple of days of dry weather and I can promise you that. Mostly

:08:18. > :08:21.dry and settled is the summary thanks to a ridge of high pressure

:08:22. > :08:25.and at high pressure will keep things nice and dry tonight with a

:08:26. > :08:30.fair bit of cloud around by clearing places. But a cold night and the

:08:31. > :08:33.lowest temperature is eight or 12 degrees. Dry across the whole

:08:34. > :08:38.country tomorrow morning. Cloudy for some of us Bob Wright in other

:08:39. > :08:48.places with sunshine likely income than share. Across the rest of the

:08:49. > :08:51.country a lot of dry weather coming up tomorrow. A fair bit of cloud

:08:52. > :08:53.around but bright in places with sunshine. The best of the sunshine

:08:54. > :08:56.is around the western coast. A few showers breaking out in parts of

:08:57. > :09:07.Wales and the West Country and the Midlands. Many places dry and

:09:08. > :09:11.pleasantly warm. Mixed fortunes for Wales tomorrow afternoon. Cloudy in

:09:12. > :09:15.places and the chance of a shower. Otherwise a lot of places will be

:09:16. > :09:19.dry and there will be some sunshine with pleasant temperatures. Some of

:09:20. > :09:25.the best of the sunshine tomorrow will be on parts of the north and

:09:26. > :09:30.west coast. On Sunday more dry weather with some clout and bright

:09:31. > :09:34.spell than sunshine as well. A few showers breaking out in the

:09:35. > :09:40.afternoon. A high of 15 degrees in Aberystwyth. A bright start to June

:09:41. > :09:43.but it looks as though it will not last and the low pressure will be

:09:44. > :09:47.back on the scene next week and bring us more rain and showers. It

:09:48. > :09:48.is some way off so enjoy the dry weather and sunshine if you can over

:09:49. > :09:55.the weekend. Enjoy the weekend. We're back tomorrow evening

:09:56. > :09:58.at ten to seven. From all of us here,

:09:59. > :10:03.enjoy your weekend.
