:00:23. > :00:31.Good evening. Who is the best curtain to represent the Carron

:00:32. > :00:40.Valley in Parliament? A man or a woman? -- best candidate. Labour

:00:41. > :00:49.Party leaders say that all-female short lists are the best way to get

:00:50. > :00:54.more women into politics. The Canon Valley has had a female MP for 30

:00:55. > :01:05.years. The question is, should there be another one? The veteran Labour

:01:06. > :01:10.MP is retiring, the say the party's candidate at the general election

:01:11. > :01:16.should come from an all women short list. Others want the freedom to

:01:17. > :01:24.choose what they believe will be the best candidate regardless of gender.

:01:25. > :01:29.The fact that we have had a woman MP for 30 years and the woman Assembly

:01:30. > :01:38.member for 15 and can see that they can do the job is enough for us to

:01:39. > :01:45.say we should not apply an all women short list. Kier Hardie was a former

:01:46. > :01:53.MP, the founding member of the Labour Party. That loyalty is

:01:54. > :01:57.feeling some of the anger of party members because they feel they are

:01:58. > :02:12.being taken for granted. All women short lists can fuel resentment. In

:02:13. > :02:19.another seat Peter Law stood as an independent as a result. This woman

:02:20. > :02:25.has run a local clothes shop for almost as long as they have had

:02:26. > :02:32.their current MP. I think it should come from a choice of men and

:02:33. > :02:38.women. It is not fair on the mend. Why would they think a woman would

:02:39. > :02:43.do a better job than a man? Labour say there have only been 13 women

:02:44. > :02:53.representing Wales in Parliament for over 100 years. We have always

:02:54. > :02:58.fought as a party to make sure the elected bodies we have in Britain

:02:59. > :03:12.reflect what the country looks like as the call. As a whole. The Labour

:03:13. > :03:16.MP who was selected from an all women short list says they are

:03:17. > :03:23.needed because women face greater hurdles. What is happening here is

:03:24. > :03:30.we have seen the last six selections in the Labour heartlands in Wales

:03:31. > :03:35.all go to men. We are very keen to have all women short lists in these

:03:36. > :03:43.seats because we have not managed to get women through any other way. It

:03:44. > :03:50.is unclear exactly which direction they will go. The manager of a

:03:51. > :03:54.Swansea Valley coal mine where four men drowned has told a court he

:03:55. > :03:59.inspected the area where they were due to work three times to make sure

:04:00. > :04:04.there was not a large amount of water there. The men died when the

:04:05. > :04:12.mine flooded three years ago. The manager of the mine who managed to

:04:13. > :04:18.escape was giving evidence. He denies four counts of manslaughter

:04:19. > :04:27.through gross negligence. This was the scene at the mine after four

:04:28. > :04:32.colliers lost their lives. They all drowned after 650,000 gallons of

:04:33. > :04:39.water filled the area where they were working. This man was the mine

:04:40. > :04:47.manager that day and as the defence opened its case this afternoon it

:04:48. > :04:52.was his turn to give evidence. Before he stepped into the witness

:04:53. > :04:58.box the jury heard he still suffers from severe post rheumatic stress

:04:59. > :05:02.disorder as a result of what happened. His barrister said his

:05:03. > :05:13.condition might hamper his ability to answer questions. It is the

:05:14. > :05:17.prosecution case that he failed to take proper steps to release the

:05:18. > :05:23.body of water before starting to work. Giving evidence, he insisted

:05:24. > :05:30.he had inspected the proposed point of contact with workings on three

:05:31. > :05:36.separate occasions and there was no substantial body of water there. He

:05:37. > :05:45.was asked repeatedly if he was sure of that and his reply every time was

:05:46. > :05:50.yes, am sure. He was then asked if he was lying and he said no, I am

:05:51. > :05:54.not lying. He was then asked Mikey have been mistaken about where he

:05:55. > :06:03.was and he replied no, he was not mistaken. Earlier he had sat in

:06:04. > :06:10.court alongside his wife as the jury were reminded of his reputation as a

:06:11. > :06:16.mine manager who did everything by the book. She also told them they

:06:17. > :06:22.must not be swayed by the sensitive nature of the case. The mine

:06:23. > :06:29.operators also deny four counts of corporate manslaughter. 13 police

:06:30. > :06:32.community support officers have been sacked and one has quit after an

:06:33. > :06:40.allegation that they cheated in their final exam. PCS says cannot

:06:41. > :06:46.arrest people but they can tackle anti-social behaviour. A former

:06:47. > :06:53.worker at the North Wales children's home has been charged

:06:54. > :06:58.with instances of indecent assault against a nine-year old boy in the

:06:59. > :07:05.1980s. An outdoor pursuits instructor at the wall was released

:07:06. > :07:13.on provisional bail and is due in court later this month. Greece are

:07:14. > :07:21.appealing for four witnesses after their research into a road accident

:07:22. > :07:32.continues after a pile-up on a back road. Joe Allen will captain Wales

:07:33. > :07:38.for the first time on Wednesday night. The Liverpool midfielder has

:07:39. > :07:44.been given the responsibility in the absence of others who will miss the

:07:45. > :08:06.World Cup warm up match in Amsterdam. In cricket, rain affected

:08:07. > :08:10.play. The weather forecast now. The start of June is the start of

:08:11. > :08:15.meteorological summer but it will feel more springlike this week,

:08:16. > :08:22.cloudy with rain and bright spells. Tonight is largely cloudy with mist

:08:23. > :08:29.and outbreaks of rain. Very mild with temperatures in double figures.

:08:30. > :08:34.Tomorrow will be a mixed day with a lot of cloud around in the morning.

:08:35. > :08:42.Showers will turn heavy at times. It will turn dryer from the West.

:08:43. > :08:47.Generally not so warm as the last few days. The south-east of England

:08:48. > :08:52.hanging on to temperatures in the high teens. Showers easing, more in

:08:53. > :09:01.the way of sunshine today although it won't be quite so warm. Tomorrow

:09:02. > :09:05.night and into Wheddon stay, low pressure over the UK will allow

:09:06. > :09:13.these fronts to push in from the south. Generally much wetter further

:09:14. > :09:20.east. Mo Sharif further west with a better chance of drier spells. Then

:09:21. > :09:25.the local years forward and a brief ridge of high pressure starts to

:09:26. > :09:31.build on Thursday. Probably the best day of the week. Drier and brighter

:09:32. > :09:37.with decent sunny spells and the small risk of a shower. More rain

:09:38. > :09:41.moving north-east roads across Wales on Friday then something warmer

:09:42. > :09:51.although not necessarily more settled into next week. Crimewatch

:09:52. > :09:58.update from BBC Wales next tonight, we are back at breakfast from six

:09:59. > :10:01.tomorrow morning. Good night.
