:00:50. > :00:57.More steel is being produced here this year than in any previous one

:00:58. > :01:01.and blast furnace four is credited with helping cut the losses of

:01:02. > :01:07.But Tata Europe is still losing money.

:01:08. > :01:08.Its products are used in construction

:01:09. > :01:11.including western Europe's tallest building, the Shard, in London.

:01:12. > :01:15.But construction has been badly hit by the economic crisis and demand

:01:16. > :01:20.for steel is a third lower than it was in 2007.

:01:21. > :01:24.The company's boss told Wales Today, in January, that high energy costs

:01:25. > :01:28.The competitiveness on energy is one of

:01:29. > :01:31.the very important elements of our unlevel playing field we suffer as a

:01:32. > :01:41.That is a real serious issue and without removing that we are

:01:42. > :01:45.The Port Talbot site uses as much energy

:01:46. > :01:51.Tata is going in the right direction.

:01:52. > :01:54.This site itself needs to be cost competitive.

:01:55. > :01:58.Six years now we haven't been where we want to be so we've invested

:01:59. > :02:02.and we have to prove our competitiveness with energy costs.

:02:03. > :02:07.Its annual electricity bill runs to ?16 million in Wales.

:02:08. > :02:11.Tata pays 50% more in the UK the energy than in France or Germany.

:02:12. > :02:17.The UK government has helped since Tata's warning,

:02:18. > :02:21.putting measures in the budget to help reduce costs for heavy energy

:02:22. > :02:25.users, but these don't come into force for another two years.

:02:26. > :02:29.The unions say it shouldn't just be about cutting costs.

:02:30. > :02:32.What is going to happen in the next couple of weeks is

:02:33. > :02:37.From a union perspective, we will be challenging every job that has been

:02:38. > :02:40.cut to make sure we can still deliver a target and that is what we

:02:41. > :02:44.have got to make sure we can still deliver our target as a business,

:02:45. > :02:48.There is still a lot of work to go yet.

:02:49. > :02:55.Politicians have voiced concerns about the news.

:02:56. > :02:57.The governments of Germany and France, for example, are much

:02:58. > :02:59.more supportive of manufacturing and steel, in particular,

:03:00. > :03:03.and that is the kind of listening government we need here today.

:03:04. > :03:08.It is a question of some workers sadly being made redundant, but of

:03:09. > :03:16.Nevertheless, I am assured that Tata, who are a very responsible

:03:17. > :03:19.employer, will make every effort to ensure that all the jobs

:03:20. > :03:24.at last are voluntary redundancies rather than compulsory ones.

:03:25. > :03:27.Tata is a major employer in the area, bring

:03:28. > :03:33.The losses here are a major blow, but the company says it is committed

:03:34. > :03:41.The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed no one will be prosecuted

:03:42. > :03:44.in connection with the death of three soldiers on the

:03:45. > :03:48.24-year-old Craig Roberts from Penrhyn Bay,

:03:49. > :03:50.31-year-old Edward Mayer, and 31-year-old James Dunsby from Bath,

:03:51. > :03:55.died following a Special Forces training exercise for Reservists.

:03:56. > :03:58.They were on a 40 mile hike in warm weather.

:03:59. > :04:01.The CPS said there was insufficient evidence to support charges

:04:02. > :04:07.of gross negligence manslaughter against two suspects.

:04:08. > :04:11.A former Pembrokeshire County Council youth worker has been

:04:12. > :04:15.jailed for six years after he admitted child sex offences.

:04:16. > :04:18.Michael John Smith was sacked for inappropriate behaviour towards

:04:19. > :04:23.Swansea Crown Court heard the 49-year-old from Haverfordwest

:04:24. > :04:29.The Environment Minister, Alun Davies, broke guidelines when

:04:30. > :04:34.he lobbied for a motor racing track to be built in his constituency.

:04:35. > :04:38.But, First Minister Carwyn Jones has decided not to sack him.

:04:39. > :04:41.Mr Davies urged an environment watchdog to support plans

:04:42. > :04:47.He's apologised to Assembly Members but opponents are demanding

:04:48. > :05:02.Motor racing could kick-start the economy in one of the pair as part

:05:03. > :05:11.of the country, according to the supporters of a track. This is where

:05:12. > :05:19.it would be built as a local MP Alun Davies lobbied for. They initially

:05:20. > :05:24.had reservations but later gave it a green light. Having commissioned a

:05:25. > :05:29.report, the first minister says Alun Davies didn't do another two

:05:30. > :05:33.separate his actions on behalf of the consistency from his ministerial

:05:34. > :05:38.role. He broke the code but he won't be sacked. There's nothing in the

:05:39. > :05:43.code which says Alun Davies must be sacked. The first minister's aides

:05:44. > :05:49.say these are guidelines and it is up to the council on what they do,

:05:50. > :06:05.but that is not satisfying in the opposition. Today was a good day to

:06:06. > :06:09.bury good news. In respect... In respect that the opposition parties

:06:10. > :06:12.to the minister at his work and allowed 14 days this report to be

:06:13. > :06:20.put together, we have waited another seven days and are not had the

:06:21. > :06:24.opportunity to see that report. I think the minister should do the

:06:25. > :06:30.honourable thing and return to the backbenches because the code has

:06:31. > :06:36.been broken. It is not the case that this statement was released on the

:06:37. > :06:41.back of the Tata case. I received this report on Wednesday last week.

:06:42. > :06:46.I was in Brussels last week. It was then prudent of course to examine

:06:47. > :06:51.the content of that report and comeback on Tuesday, which is why I

:06:52. > :06:57.was here to answer the questions. Alun Davies gave this. Questions

:06:58. > :07:04.were raised over my conduct. The first minister commissioned an

:07:05. > :07:08.inquiry to gather the facts and concluded I did breach some of the

:07:09. > :07:14.code. I have already apologised to the first minister and would like to

:07:15. > :07:23.do so again to the public record. His own officials told him comment

:07:24. > :07:27.on the case even in his capacity as and AM. If he had taken the

:07:28. > :07:32.precaution, nobody would be calling for him to resign.

:07:33. > :07:35.On the second day of Prince Charles' visit to Wales, he and the Ducchess

:07:36. > :07:38.of Cornwall went to see the newly restored Galilee Chapel at St

:07:39. > :07:40.Illtud's Church in Llantwit Major in Vale of Glamorgan, before visiting

:07:41. > :07:44.the Dyffryn Gardens in the Vale of Glamorgan. They then went on to

:07:45. > :07:47.Tonight they hosted a reception for Dylan Thomas' centenary.

:07:48. > :07:49.Glamorgan's cricketers will be batting tomorrow to avoid defeat

:07:50. > :07:52.in their County Championship match with Worcestershire at New Road.

:07:53. > :07:54.Spinner Dean Cosker took five wickets for the Welsh county,

:07:55. > :07:56.as Worcestershire declared on 299-7, leaving Glamorgan with

:07:57. > :08:16.Let's take a look at the weather. A warm start to July across Wales. 24

:08:17. > :08:20.cells as was the hot spot, 23 in Cardiff -- 24 Celsius. Tonight is

:08:21. > :08:25.dry with light winds and variable cloud. Some localised mist and fog

:08:26. > :08:30.patches developing and a mild one with overnight lows between ten and

:08:31. > :08:35.13 Celsius. A fine and sunny start tomorrow. If you miss all soon burn

:08:36. > :08:39.away as it warms up and a similar picture across most of the UK. Warm

:08:40. > :08:43.with sunny spells but because he is thicker cloud developing across

:08:44. > :08:46.Scotland and Northern Ireland with some rain putting in from the

:08:47. > :08:55.north-west, suppressing the temperatures here but for most of

:08:56. > :08:58.the UK, even warmer than today with temperatures into the 20s. A fine

:08:59. > :09:02.enter the day in Wales with temperatures creeping up into the

:09:03. > :09:07.20s, maybe 23 or 24 Celsius for border counties. That front in the

:09:08. > :09:13.north-west slowly sinks south eastwards to Wales on Thursday, so

:09:14. > :09:17.still a very humid feel. It also in cloudy in the north and west with a

:09:18. > :09:22.fusion as possible and eventually a bit cooler. It could be a dry start

:09:23. > :09:26.on Friday, especially further east but cloudier and breezy with more

:09:27. > :09:31.persistent rain putting in from the West through the day. It is all

:09:32. > :09:47.thanks to low pressure pushing in from the Atlantic late Saturday.

:09:48. > :09:49.Some uncertainty about the timing and detailed, but after a fine three

:09:50. > :09:53.days, a more unsettled enter the week, possibly a Shah restarts,

:09:54. > :09:57.clearing later on with winds easing. That is Wales for the day. Good

:09:58. > :10:02.night.
