:00:00. > :00:18.has been talking to Will Gompertz. That's all

:00:19. > :00:21.Families who paid for care fees that should have been

:00:22. > :00:25.funded by the NHS have until the end of this month to reclaim the money.

:00:26. > :00:28.Tonight there have been calls to extend that deadline

:00:29. > :00:32.amid warnings that thousands of families in Wales could miss out.

:00:33. > :00:41.Eileen had to be cared for in a nursing home until she died in 2009.

:00:42. > :00:44.She was immobile after suffering from three strokes and she was

:00:45. > :00:49.severely diabetic but she was told that her health needs were not great

:00:50. > :00:54.enough for the NHS to pay for her fees so she was forced to

:00:55. > :00:56.sell her house to pay for the care. Her brother-in-law battled to

:00:57. > :01:00.get that decision overturned but only after three appeals

:01:01. > :01:03.and two upheld complaints to the Public Services Ombudsman.

:01:04. > :01:06.A process that he describes as traumatic.

:01:07. > :01:12.I asked them on one occasion, how ill does one have to be to

:01:13. > :01:28.qualify for continuing healthcare? They shrugged their shoulders.

:01:29. > :01:30.It's annoying. These people cannot look

:01:31. > :01:33.after themselves anymore but they worked 40, 50 years.

:01:34. > :01:35.They paid their taxes and their National Insurance contributions

:01:36. > :01:38.and were never a burden to society and when it came to their case,

:01:39. > :01:43.for them to be looked after, they had to pay for themselves.

:01:44. > :01:46.If, like Mrs Puc, someone is receiving care

:01:47. > :01:49.for a health need, either in a nursing home or in their own

:01:50. > :01:53.home - the NHS should pay the fees. But many are unaware of the funding

:01:54. > :01:55.or are wrongly denied the money when they are assessed, potentially

:01:56. > :01:58.leading to a retrospective appeal. And now, thousands of people are

:01:59. > :02:01.at risk of missing the deadline to reclaim fees as the Welsh Government

:02:02. > :02:05.says that claims must be made at the end of this month for care received

:02:06. > :02:06.between April 2003 and July 2013. The government was expecting 3,000

:02:07. > :02:11.applicants but so far only 29 have come forward

:02:12. > :02:13.with only two weeks left to apply. It's crucial that people know

:02:14. > :02:16.that the deadline is looming. They need to have all

:02:17. > :02:19.the right information to know whether this information applies to

:02:20. > :02:21.them and whether they will be due money back from the NHS.

:02:22. > :02:24.Unfortunately, this deadline hasn't been publicised

:02:25. > :02:32.as widely as we would like to see it and it's also been

:02:33. > :02:34.announced at quite short notice. The Welsh Government

:02:35. > :02:37.strongly rejects the claims. As part of a publicity campaign,

:02:38. > :02:40.it's given posters and leaflets to GPs, hospitals and Age Cymru.

:02:41. > :02:46.It's also put the information online.

:02:47. > :02:50.It is quite clear the publicity campaign hasn't worked

:02:51. > :02:52.and that is why we need to see an extension of the deadline by

:02:53. > :03:00.at least three months, so that the families have the

:03:01. > :03:02.opportunity to make their claims. But it's too late for people like

:03:03. > :03:04.Mr Roberts and Mrs Puc whose home and belongings have

:03:05. > :03:09.already been sold to pay for care. A man found guilty of shooting

:03:10. > :03:11.his estranged wife after she left him for another man has been jailed

:03:12. > :03:15.for life with the judge recommending Newport Crown Court heard how 50

:03:16. > :03:20.year-old Christopher Parry shot Caroline Parry twice

:03:21. > :03:22.in the back before turning Sentencing him

:03:23. > :03:27.the judge said he accepted he'd been suffering a significant depressive

:03:28. > :03:31.illness at the time. The Conservative MP for Monmouth,

:03:32. > :03:33.David Davies, has called on the UK Government to

:03:34. > :03:36.solve problems surrounding the issuing of passports, following

:03:37. > :03:39.an increasing number of complaints It comes a month

:03:40. > :03:44.after a row broke out over delays to Home Secretary Theresa May denied

:03:45. > :03:50.there was a crisis, but said there A 38-year-old woman has appeared

:03:51. > :03:57.before Cardiff Crown Court accused of seven charges of possessing

:03:58. > :04:00.and distributing indecent images The charges against Joanne Majelics

:04:01. > :04:05.from Doncaster followed an investigation into singer

:04:06. > :04:07.Ian Watkins. She pleaded not guilty

:04:08. > :04:12.and was released on bail. It has to be

:04:13. > :04:14.a parent's worst nightmare. Thankfully,

:04:15. > :04:16.this time it all ended well. A nine-year-old school girl playing

:04:17. > :04:20.hide and seek got wedged between giant rocks as the tide was coming

:04:21. > :04:24.in at Aberaeron near Aberystwyth. With the lifeboat crew struggling to

:04:25. > :04:27.find a way to free her, the youngest team member, just 17,

:04:28. > :04:30.had to squeeze himself between the rocks and submerge

:04:31. > :04:45.himself in water to free her. This dramatic footage shows the

:04:46. > :04:50.urgency of the rescue for the RNLI. A nine-year-old girl, Eira,

:04:51. > :05:00.got stuck. She slipped while playing hide

:05:01. > :05:08.and seek. Tom, can you fit down there?

:05:09. > :05:12.Take the stuff off. Take your life jacket off...

:05:13. > :05:15.The only way to free her was to send the youngest crew member

:05:16. > :05:20.in to cut off her Wellington boot. 17-year-old Thom Evans was

:05:21. > :05:23.on his first call-out. If you don't think you can do it,

:05:24. > :05:29.don't do it. Slide in and cut off her Wellington

:05:30. > :05:33.boot. It was

:05:34. > :05:46.a tough situation to go through. Tough for your first call-out.

:05:47. > :05:49.What was going through your mind? The first thing that went

:05:50. > :05:53.through my mind is, this is quite a serious scenario for

:05:54. > :05:56.her to be in and I have to do this. The tide is coming in thick.

:05:57. > :05:59.We decided to try and get in and out as fast

:06:00. > :06:02.as we could with her free and safe. Joe Perry welly as much as you can.

:06:03. > :06:05.The urgency of the call-out can be seen from this footage.

:06:06. > :06:10.Within an hour, the girl would have been underwater.

:06:11. > :06:13.I will get down the back. The front is the problem.

:06:14. > :06:20.With some quick thinking, Eira was freed.

:06:21. > :06:26.The nine-year-old helped make this a successful rescue by staying calm.

:06:27. > :06:34.Well done, Tom. Well done.

:06:35. > :06:37.This dramatic rescue made sure that an innocent game of hide and Seek

:06:38. > :06:44.didn't end in tragedy. A charity, which helps young people

:06:45. > :06:47.in Wales have their say on Welsh politics, has warned it faces

:06:48. > :06:49.closure after losing its funding. Funky Dragon,

:06:50. > :06:51.the Youth Assembly for Wales, includes youngsters elected from

:06:52. > :06:53.each local council area to discuss The Welsh Government, which provides

:06:54. > :06:59.the funding, says its grants will support other organisations offering

:07:00. > :07:04.a similar service. New rules setting-out the way public

:07:05. > :07:07.bodies offer services in Welsh need to be flexible enough to reflect

:07:08. > :07:11.the different levels of Welsh spoken That's according to the leader

:07:12. > :07:16.of Gwynedd Council Dyfed Edwards, who's been negotiating on behalf of

:07:17. > :07:19.councils, with the Welsh Government The First Minister will

:07:20. > :07:24.respond next week. The future of Welsh rugby has been

:07:25. > :07:28.thrown deeper into doubt tonight. Regional Rugby Wales says the new

:07:29. > :07:32.proposed agreement for the future of regions have written to the Welsh

:07:33. > :07:40.Rugby Union offering them the chance to take them over. The WRU says it's

:07:41. > :07:44.working to avoid a crisis over the Glamorgan have been back in Twenty20

:07:45. > :07:51.action this evening at the Oval Batting first,

:07:52. > :07:56.Glamorgan made 192 for 4 before More sunshine today, but I think

:07:57. > :08:20.there's a change on the horizon. Tonight, clear spells, some cloud,

:08:21. > :08:26.coastal mist and hill fog forming. Otherwise,

:08:27. > :08:29.dry and mild at 10-15 Celsius. We can see from the pressure chart

:08:30. > :08:31.that it goes downhill tomorrow. These fronts push in

:08:32. > :08:35.from the Atlantic, bringing a more unsettled influence to our weather.

:08:36. > :08:38.It should be fine at first, further east, with sunny spells

:08:39. > :08:42.before thicker cloud and mainly patchy rain push in from the west.

:08:43. > :08:47.Tthat rain already across Northern Ireland, the west

:08:48. > :08:50.of England and most of Scotland. Fairly light but

:08:51. > :08:53.although it's drier further east, the air's humid and unstable which

:08:54. > :08:55.could trigger a thunder showers. But warmer where it?s

:08:56. > :08:59.sunnier longest. 24-26 Celsius for the south

:09:00. > :09:01.and east of England. By late afternoon,

:09:02. > :09:04.that rain spreading across Wales. Not huge amounts.

:09:05. > :09:08.The potential for heavier bursts on high ground with winds picking

:09:09. > :09:11.up too. Not as warm further west.

:09:12. > :09:13.17 Celsius in Pembrokeshire. A more humid 21 Celsius in Wrexham

:09:14. > :09:16.and Flintshire. That front continues to moves

:09:17. > :09:20.eastwards Saturday night into Sunday, so the rain easing overnight

:09:21. > :09:23.but remaining cloudy and very mild. Any early showers will clear

:09:24. > :09:28.on Sunday, turning into a brighter but breezier day.

:09:29. > :09:32.More in the way of sunshine by the afternoon and still fairly

:09:33. > :09:36.warm but a fresher feel as we lose that humidity from the Continent.

:09:37. > :09:38.So the weekend starts humid, some rain tomorrow,

:09:39. > :09:41.clearing by Sunday, with a slightly fresher but more changeable regime

:09:42. > :09:49.for the start of next week. We'll be back with our next update

:09:50. > :09:54.at 6.50pm tomorrow evening. From all of us here,

:09:55. > :10:00.have a good weekend.
