:00:17. > :00:22.David Jones has been sacked as Secretary of State for Wales.
:00:23. > :00:25.It is part of a Cabinet reshuffle by the Prime Minister.
:00:26. > :00:29.He'd been in the job less than two years.
:00:30. > :00:40.Some MPs expect Stephen Crabb to take over.
:00:41. > :00:45.If a it was all smiles on his promotion to the capitalist than two
:00:46. > :00:49.years ago, but this afternoon, David Jones paid a different sort of visit
:00:50. > :00:52.to Downing Street, sack and a Cabinet reshuffle by a prime
:00:53. > :00:57.minister keen to freshen his team ahead of the general election next
:00:58. > :00:59.year. He said he was not unhappy to be leaving the government. He said
:01:00. > :01:04.he understood the position of David Cameron and that the Prime Minister
:01:05. > :01:09.would get his total support. Why was he sacked? There were tensions with
:01:10. > :01:14.the Welsh government. You would expect that between politicians of
:01:15. > :01:18.different parties. More significant word attentions on his own side,
:01:19. > :01:23.with conservatives in the National Assembly. There were differences
:01:24. > :01:27.over devolution, even over who got top billing at party conferences.
:01:28. > :01:32.Those pensions did not go unnoticed in Downing Street. Political
:01:33. > :01:39.opponents found Mr Jones hostile to devolution. He had very definite
:01:40. > :01:44.views which were public, which were against any further devolution. As
:01:45. > :01:49.witnessed by four or five references to cases between This Place and the
:01:50. > :01:53.Welsh government, to the Supreme Court and the last few months, all
:01:54. > :01:57.of which, incidentally, have been won by the Welsh government. It has
:01:58. > :02:02.not been easy in terms of discussing further devolution. MPs expect Mr
:02:03. > :02:10.Jones to be replaced by his deputy, Stephen Crabb.
:02:11. > :02:13.From my point of view it is a Pembrokeshire Colleague.
:02:14. > :02:15.It will put an important spotlight on our
:02:16. > :02:18.part of south-west Wales. And in all the years that I have known Stephen,
:02:19. > :02:21.he has got a very shrewd brain. He understands business, he understands
:02:22. > :02:24.politics, he understands Wales and he will bring a nice, refreshing and
:02:25. > :02:29.different approach to the way in which politics is seen in Wales.
:02:30. > :02:36.Most importantly, the way that the Rest of the World sees Wales, and
:02:37. > :02:42.they will see him as somebody they can do business with. Stephen
:02:43. > :02:47.Crabb's or job to go to the Vale of Glamorgan MP or amid concern that
:02:48. > :02:50.the North might be underrepresented by the MP for Aberconwy. Stephen
:02:51. > :02:53.Crabb is likely to strike a different tone at the Wales office,
:02:54. > :02:56.which might include ditching the ministerial Jaguar and walking the
:02:57. > :03:10.Cabinet meetings. -- walking too. A woman from Carmarthenshire who
:03:11. > :03:13.stole ?8,500 from a friend's memorial fund has been given
:03:14. > :03:15.a two year suspended jail sentence. Natalie Thomas admitted taking
:03:16. > :03:18.the money from the Bandi Appeal, set up to raise money for
:03:19. > :03:21.a new childrens unit at Glangwili The 22-year-old died
:03:22. > :03:24.in a car crash two years ago. She was on her way to be fitted
:03:25. > :03:27.for a bridesmaids' dress. Up to 40 jobs could go
:03:28. > :03:30.at a bakery in Swansea Swansea Bakeries Limited said it was
:03:31. > :03:34.consulting with staff and unions, after Hovis decided it would use
:03:35. > :03:38.its own factory in Bristol. The firm says it'll do everything it
:03:39. > :03:42.could to mitigate the contract loss. There's criticism tonight that
:03:43. > :03:44.expectant mums in Wales are not getting the most
:03:45. > :03:46.effective screening available Improved tests to detect
:03:47. > :03:50.the chances of a child being born with Down's Syndrome are now
:03:51. > :03:52.available to parents in north Wales, but despite guidance being issued
:03:53. > :03:56.in 2008, that's still not available across Wales, unless you're prepared
:03:57. > :03:58.to pay for it. And laying the foundations
:03:59. > :04:09.for their future family, Tests and scans are available,
:04:10. > :04:18.to test for the baby being born with But that test depends
:04:19. > :04:26.on where you live. The current testing for Down's
:04:27. > :04:28.syndrome involves a blood test There is a better more effective
:04:29. > :04:32.test that has been done in England But nowhere else
:04:33. > :04:40.in Wales offers that at the moment. The fact that improved testing is
:04:41. > :04:49.patchy, six years after guidance was issued saying all woman should have
:04:50. > :04:51.it, has prompted criticism. You know much earlier
:04:52. > :04:53.in your pregnancy. So, obviously,
:04:54. > :04:55.there are some women who decide not to proceed with that pregnancy, and
:04:56. > :04:58.that decision is much easier if it And it gives much greater certainty
:04:59. > :05:04.the woman because You're trying to measure a small
:05:05. > :05:12.amount of fluid at the back of the baby's neck, so ultrasound equipment
:05:13. > :05:17.has had to be upgraded and the imaging system of the pictures for
:05:18. > :05:19.quality control purposes and there is a major training being
:05:20. > :05:26.undertaken to train sonographers. But one of the issues is, there is
:05:27. > :05:29.no funding that comes with this. Just because the test is available
:05:30. > :05:41.doesn't mean everyone will want one. I didn't feel it was necessary, the
:05:42. > :05:43.screening. It would not have changed
:05:44. > :05:46.my decision to do anything at all. And I feel that the money could be
:05:47. > :05:50.spent in other ways in the NHS. The Welsh Government says that the
:05:51. > :06:01.screening is being phased in across the rest of Wales but it has been
:06:02. > :06:04.been a complex process with the additional impact on midwifery and
:06:05. > :06:07.radiology capacity and the logistics of upgrading software has taken
:06:08. > :06:09.some time to work through. It is hoped that
:06:10. > :06:12.the new screening will be available More public land could be freed up
:06:13. > :06:18.to allow people to grow their own food under
:06:19. > :06:20.Welsh Government proposals. Across Wales, local authorities are
:06:21. > :06:22.struggling to meet demand The Government says it wants more
:06:23. > :06:26.gardeners to enjoy the health and social benefits
:06:27. > :06:38.a vegetable patch can provide. We know that there was public land
:06:39. > :06:42.available which is not always best used wells in the ownership of the
:06:43. > :06:46.local authority, Welsh government, or others. Land is available and it
:06:47. > :06:50.could be better used. We want to make sure that we assess demand more
:06:51. > :06:59.accurately and make provisions so that the land is there to be used.
:07:00. > :07:01.Scientists are looking into what is causing a spate of attacks by
:07:02. > :07:08.bottlenose dolphins of the West Wales coast. It is not rare for
:07:09. > :07:12.dolphins to attack poor boys is, but the frequency of recent attacks is
:07:13. > :07:20.unusual. -- the attack poor poisoners. One of the meat reasons
:07:21. > :07:25.might be food, is there enough food in the area which we have seen a
:07:26. > :07:32.number of big fish being caught in the day, NUT. Hunting skills could
:07:33. > :07:36.be that they are teaching each other hunting skills. With the Marine
:07:37. > :07:42.environment, it is ethical to tell why things are actually happening.
:07:43. > :07:49.There could be some sunshine on the way, couldn't bear, Sue? Yes, and
:07:50. > :07:53.definitely turning warmer. It has been a cloudy start. Becoming
:07:54. > :07:58.brighter and warmer with the chance of a thundery breakdown later in the
:07:59. > :08:04.week. Patchy rain clearing East, the leader mostly dry but crabby like.
:08:05. > :08:08.And it will be mild with overnight though temperatures between 12-15
:08:09. > :08:14.Celsius. Tomorrow, a cloudy start, and a similar story across the UK.
:08:15. > :08:23.Showers pulling the south-west Coast, then those listening to leave
:08:24. > :08:28.a dry day with sunny spells. And temperatures creeping up into the
:08:29. > :08:32.high teens across most of Scotland, and 25 Celsius possible in the
:08:33. > :08:36.South-East of England. It is a fine enter the day across Wales, and with
:08:37. > :08:44.light winds it will feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine. Through
:08:45. > :08:49.tomorrow night, more cloud making its way in from the west. Some
:08:50. > :08:54.coastal showers possible. But the dry and mild might foremost. Then
:08:55. > :09:01.from midnight we see high pressure building from the South, and these
:09:02. > :09:04.weather fronts are not too far away. Some sunny spells further east,
:09:05. > :09:08.warming up with temperatures beginning to rise into the low 20s,
:09:09. > :09:15.but also, some rain pushing in from the west later on. By Thursday, we
:09:16. > :09:19.start to drag up this humid air from Spain and France, with some hot,
:09:20. > :09:23.sunny spells, so this will bring greater chances of thunder and
:09:24. > :09:30.torrential downpours, Thursday and Friday. The end of the week looking
:09:31. > :09:34.much warmer with temperatures into the mid-20s or the high 20s. Sunny
:09:35. > :09:40.at times with the risk of heavy showers, and a bit less humid, but
:09:41. > :09:46.still warm as we head into next weekend. Keep up with the latest on
:09:47. > :09:54.the website. We will have more news for you in BBC Breakfast starting
