:00:16. > :00:26.A new ?1 billion pound motorway for Wales has been announced tonight.

:00:27. > :00:28.It's the Welsh Government's solution to improving congestion

:00:29. > :00:32.opponents say there are cheaper options,

:00:33. > :00:46.Our Economics Correspondent Sarah Dickins reports.

:00:47. > :00:54.It was more than 50 years ago that the Mfour was built. For the last

:00:55. > :00:58.two decades, its congestion has become more and more intense and

:00:59. > :01:02.there has been debate about upgrading it. Last September, Barnes

:01:03. > :01:12.went to consultation with these three words look at -- boots looked

:01:13. > :01:17.at. After considering the responses to the consultation, the

:01:18. > :01:24.environmental report and associated assessments, I have decided to adopt

:01:25. > :01:29.the plan to build a new motorway between junction 23 and 29. The

:01:30. > :01:37.Liberal Democrats have opposed the route, as have for assembly members

:01:38. > :01:39.from the ministers' own party. In looking at the environmental

:01:40. > :01:43.considerations, which are of huge concern, are we planning for the

:01:44. > :01:49.long-term, like we have been talking about in the well-being of future

:01:50. > :01:53.generations, or I'll be making a short-term decision that does not

:01:54. > :01:58.look at the long-term consequences? The argument is that it is needed to

:01:59. > :02:07.get Wales moving, attract investment and jobs and help businesses grow. A

:02:08. > :02:09.price can comparison site employs workers alongside the existing

:02:10. > :02:14.motorway. Most commute on the motorway. Congestion affects their

:02:15. > :02:18.business. We often have people coming in late because of it. We

:02:19. > :02:27.have breakdowns and all of the rest of it. We sometimes have to send

:02:28. > :02:29.people home early. There is also an economic argument that this

:02:30. > :02:35.investment is not the best way to improve the Welsh economy. Building

:02:36. > :02:39.a new road may seem like an attractive solution, but it is a big

:02:40. > :02:45.boys' toy. It does not address the underlying problems. It is villages

:02:46. > :02:52.like this that will be affected when the new road is built. It is a

:02:53. > :02:57.beautiful countryside around here, I don't think it should be spoiled.

:02:58. > :03:01.This area of Wales is unique in terms of the landscape and the area.

:03:02. > :03:12.There are rare species that live there. It'll be tremendously

:03:13. > :03:15.damaging. Of course, this announcement comes one week after

:03:16. > :03:21.the Welsh Government unveiled its future generations built. If that

:03:22. > :03:25.becomes law, this project will have to prove that it is not just good

:03:26. > :03:31.for transport, but for Wales in the widest of sensors. -- senses.

:03:32. > :03:43.It was more than 50 years ago that the Mfour was built. For the last

:03:44. > :03:46.The SAS officer in charge of choosing new recruits has told

:03:47. > :03:48.an inquest all risk can't be eliminated, after a Royal Marine

:03:49. > :03:52.Ashley Hicks fell 100 feet down a gorge in Snowdonia.

:03:53. > :03:54.The Navy say a number of lessons have been learned.

:03:55. > :03:57.The coroner at Caernarfon recorded a verdict of accidental death.

:03:58. > :03:59.A man, accused of beating his girlfriend's

:04:00. > :04:01.baby to death while babysitting, says he can't explain the injuries.

:04:02. > :04:03.Michael Pearce, from Nelson near Caerphilly, admitted being

:04:04. > :04:05.in sole charge of six-week-old Alfie Sullock last August,

:04:06. > :04:09.A scout leader, a foster carer, an ex-police officer

:04:10. > :04:12.and a social service manager are among 59 people arrested in Wales

:04:13. > :04:17.The arrests were part of a UK-wide operation targeting people accessing

:04:18. > :04:33.As crime goes online, so are the detectives. They are working on

:04:34. > :04:37.intelligence from the National Crime Agency for six months officers have

:04:38. > :04:45.been closing in on suspected paedophiles. We arrested 51 people,

:04:46. > :04:47.search their properties and seized their computer equipment and any

:04:48. > :04:55.other electronic devices where they may have been storing abusive

:04:56. > :05:01.images. Across Wales, 30 arrests were made in the South Wales force

:05:02. > :05:09.area, 14 in Gwent, eight in North Wales and seven in Dafydd Powers.

:05:10. > :05:15.Two of the 59 were on the sex offenders register, the rest had not

:05:16. > :05:21.come to the attention of the police before. Was there a sense that this

:05:22. > :05:27.was coordinated? What people might call a paedophile ring? We saw no

:05:28. > :05:34.evidence of that in southern Wales, but we have gathered intelligence

:05:35. > :05:38.and images and I think the analytical work will be ongoing for

:05:39. > :05:43.some time. Some of the images being viewed and passed around were found

:05:44. > :05:52.openly on the Internet, but some on what -- weren't what has become

:05:53. > :05:55.known as the dark web. The dark web are websites that are on the

:05:56. > :06:01.Internet, but have not been indexed by the normal search engines. They

:06:02. > :06:11.can only be accessed by bespoke software and search engines. It is

:06:12. > :06:13.believed that that kind of... It can mask IP addresses and such. But

:06:14. > :06:19.there are methods are available that can identify and locate those

:06:20. > :06:23.offenders. The police said that two of the people were arrested during

:06:24. > :06:30.the course of this operation that have since taken their own lives. 12

:06:31. > :06:34.people had been charged with either possessing or distributing indecent

:06:35. > :06:38.material. The rest are awaiting decision from the Crown Prosecution

:06:39. > :06:41.Service. Officers involved in the case say their actions have already

:06:42. > :06:45.helped protect 58 children here in Wales.

:06:46. > :06:48.A member of the Wales team for the Commonwealth Games has been

:06:49. > :06:50.suspended from competing after failing a drugs test.

:06:51. > :06:52.800 metre runner Gareth Warburton has been charged with an anti-doping

:06:53. > :06:55.offence just a week before the start of the Glasgow Games.

:06:56. > :06:58.He says the failed test came as a ?huge shock?

:06:59. > :07:08.and that he's never knowingly taken any banned substance.

:07:09. > :07:11.Cricket and Welshman James Harris is returning to his former county,

:07:12. > :07:16.The bowler moved to Middlesex on a three-year deal in 2012 to further

:07:17. > :07:26.But he's struggled to win a regular place there this season.

:07:27. > :07:29.The quest for the Holy Grail has taken a new turn.

:07:30. > :07:31.The police have launched their own search after thieves stole

:07:32. > :07:33.a religious relic, claimed to be the cup from which

:07:34. > :07:40.The Nanteos Cup, a wooden chalice named after the mansion

:07:41. > :07:43.in Aberystwyth where it was once kept, had been loaned to a seriously

:07:44. > :07:50.ill woman in Herefordshire because of its claimed healing properties.

:07:51. > :08:03.It will feel more tropical and by the time we get the weekend there

:08:04. > :08:07.are some stormy conditions. A humid feel through tomorrow into the

:08:08. > :08:12.weekend. Tonight, some coastal showers, but for the majority it

:08:13. > :08:18.will be dry and will be cloudy with... We will see some mist and

:08:19. > :08:23.fog patches forming. It is a mild night with temperatures ranging from

:08:24. > :08:27.11 to 16 Celsius. High-pressure remaining in charge tomorrow, giving

:08:28. > :08:30.a set all day. But it is low pressure that takes charge tomorrow

:08:31. > :08:35.night and into the weekend, bringing stormy conditions. First thing

:08:36. > :08:40.tomorrow morning, a cloudy start, it will brighten up with just the few

:08:41. > :08:44.showers on the South coast. It is a largely dry story across the British

:08:45. > :08:49.Isles. We can look forward to a warm and sunny day. It will be very hot,

:08:50. > :08:53.especially in the South East where temperatures could get up to 30 or

:08:54. > :09:00.even maybe 30 or even maybe 32 Celsius by the Friday. Tomorrow

:09:01. > :09:04.afternoon, lots of sunshine around, a dry story, the odd isolated

:09:05. > :09:10.shower, impressive temperatures for the month of July, ranging between

:09:11. > :09:16.20 to 27 Celsius. The wind will be light and moderate, from a South

:09:17. > :09:21.easterly direction. The winds pick up, so quite blustery, as this front

:09:22. > :09:27.approaches and with it comes coastal showers and they could be thundery,

:09:28. > :09:31.as well. A mild night, temperatures from 16 to 20 Celsius. It could be

:09:32. > :09:36.uncomfortable for sleeping. Another decent day on Friday on the shower

:09:37. > :09:41.is clear. Very warm again, and then we have a warning for the showers on

:09:42. > :09:44.Saturday which could be quite thundery and caused some localised

:09:45. > :09:47.flooding across parts of the South and East. Further West, lighter in

:09:48. > :09:49.nature, Sunday will be a better day. We'll have the latest news

:09:50. > :09:51.and sport, traffic updates and weather in Breakfast

:09:52. > :09:54.from 6am tomorrow morning. Thank you for watching from all

:09:55. > :09:59.of us on the programme.
