:00:20. > :00:27.Good evening. The American billionaire who is buying the oil

:00:28. > :00:33.refinery in Milford Haven has told Wales today that all 400 staff they

:00:34. > :00:38.will keep their jobs. Today, the group confirmed it will buy the

:00:39. > :00:41.site. The company owner says that they will invest tens of millions of

:00:42. > :00:53.pounds to improve the plant. As they went about their work at the

:00:54. > :00:54.refinery this morning, workers told me they were believed at hearing the

:00:55. > :00:57.news. It is not clear how much the takeover is worth but for the people

:00:58. > :01:00.working here, the deal is priceless. Speaking via Skype from Italy, the

:01:01. > :01:07.prospective owner told us that he will be retaining the workforce and

:01:08. > :01:10.restarting operations on the site. It is our intention to keep the jobs

:01:11. > :01:14.at Milford Haven and the other thing and would mention is that everyone

:01:15. > :01:19.always looks at the jobs at the refinery, which are obviously very

:01:20. > :01:26.important, but what is also important is the indirect jobs. It

:01:27. > :01:30.is a multiple of the 500 people that we will keep at Milford Haven. We

:01:31. > :01:39.are talking about thousands of jobs that are secure in and around the

:01:40. > :01:43.area. It has been a worrying time for the people of Milford Haven and

:01:44. > :01:47.the announcement is a big boost for the community that has been on the

:01:48. > :01:58.refinery since it opened more than 40 years ago. The site came into

:01:59. > :02:14.operation in 1973 when it was owned by Amoco.

:02:15. > :02:22.It was dragging on and on. One minute, it was a rumour, and yes, it

:02:23. > :02:31.is good news, and then it was bad news. But a good outcome at the end.

:02:32. > :02:34.The Welsh government said the takeover is the first step towards

:02:35. > :02:39.securing the refinery's long-term future. This is excellent news. I've

:02:40. > :02:44.been following the events over the last few weeks and we have been

:02:45. > :02:48.pulling out all the stops to help save those jobs. Marvellous to know

:02:49. > :02:52.that there is now a buyer and the jobs will be saved for

:02:53. > :02:57.Pembrokeshire. The plant is an efficient one and the workers are

:02:58. > :03:06.incredibly professional. I was pleased to bring Gary Klesch into

:03:07. > :03:11.the sales programme. He has a record of making as this is like this more

:03:12. > :03:14.professional and economical. This evening, there is fresh hope that

:03:15. > :03:19.this refinery will continue to provide local people would work as

:03:20. > :03:24.it has done for many years. Sticking with energy, a surprise

:03:25. > :03:28.announcement tonight that developers have pulled the plug on a massive

:03:29. > :03:33.wind farm off Anglesey. It is claimed it could have powered 1.7

:03:34. > :03:37.million homes. It is the second big offshore wind farm to be shelved in

:03:38. > :03:42.months. 12 miles off the coast, it would have been the first of three

:03:43. > :03:49.to be built between Anglesey and the Isle of Man.

:03:50. > :03:55.In the scale of things, it seems that promotional videos come cheap.

:03:56. > :03:58.We are at the heart of this growing industry and ready to contribute to

:03:59. > :04:05.the future energy needs of UK homes and businesses. This is how Centrica

:04:06. > :04:10.and Dong Energy were promoting their development. No longer. They have

:04:11. > :04:14.pulled out. And echo of the decision late last year to abandon a project

:04:15. > :04:20.of the South Wales coast. In this case, they blame sea bed geology. On

:04:21. > :04:27.Anglesey, the decision is a setback. Here, a vessel was being

:04:28. > :04:31.built to service wind farms. When this vessel puts to see in a couple

:04:32. > :04:36.of months, most likely it will work off the east coast of England,

:04:37. > :04:39.servicing wind farms. To say the decision stalls the UK's offshore

:04:40. > :04:44.renewables industry is perhaps going to fire. But it certainly brings

:04:45. > :04:54.future wind farm development of the Welsh coast to a halt. A subsidiary

:04:55. > :05:02.would have bid for work on the field. The timings were long way

:05:03. > :05:08.out. The groundwork has been going on but in essence, there was still

:05:09. > :05:17.plenty to do to get to a point where construction was going to start. So

:05:18. > :05:20.disappointment more than shock. It leaves Wales without significant

:05:21. > :05:25.offshore wind farm developments in their planning. And it shows that

:05:26. > :05:28.there is a huge missed opportunity for the people of Anglesey to

:05:29. > :05:33.benefit from the work that would have come from that wind farm. The

:05:34. > :05:37.island hoped to gain from the Celtic Array even though nothing firm had

:05:38. > :05:40.been promised. Policymakers want to use the energy industry, including

:05:41. > :05:47.nuclear as well as renewables, to promote growth. We were not aware of

:05:48. > :05:53.specific proposals for jobs. It was opportunities for the Irish Sea and

:05:54. > :05:56.for the mainland. But for Anglesey, it is the potential long-term jobs

:05:57. > :06:04.which have been lost rather than specific figures. When it was first

:06:05. > :06:09.announced, the Celtic array held great promise in terms of jobs and

:06:10. > :06:12.investment. That seems to have come to nothing. Along the coast from

:06:13. > :06:22.Anglesey, this wind farm is nearing completion. Could it turn out to be

:06:23. > :06:24.Wales' final office for -- offshore wind project?

:06:25. > :06:27.BBC Wales has discovered that five people arrested by North Wales

:06:28. > :06:34.police in connection with a fraud investigation work for a bus company

:06:35. > :06:39.in Gwinnett. Four women who work for the company have been released on

:06:40. > :06:41.bail while enquiries take place. It comes after several people were

:06:42. > :06:45.arrested following a separate investigation into fraud at another

:06:46. > :06:51.firm. That company went into voluntary liquidation in May. A

:06:52. > :06:59.deputy leader of Powys council has told BBC Wales that she apologises

:07:00. > :07:03.for using racially offensive language at a council meeting. She

:07:04. > :07:07.used the N word in a debate about health services. She was raising

:07:08. > :07:11.concerns about how some first language Welsh speakers are treated.

:07:12. > :07:15.She said that she had been severely reprimanded.

:07:16. > :07:17.Team Wales say that their weightlifter, Gareth Evans, is well

:07:18. > :07:21.enough to stay on at the Commonwealth Games even though his

:07:22. > :07:26.nose was broken in an assault by another aptly. The Australian

:07:27. > :07:31.weightlifter, France one 2D, appeared in court in Glasgow today

:07:32. > :07:39.where he admitted head-butting Mr Evans during an altercation in the

:07:40. > :07:42.Athletes' Village. Gareth Evans came to Glasgow to try to win a

:07:43. > :07:45.Commonwealth medal but now he will remember the friendly games for a

:07:46. > :07:54.different reason. After a fellow athlete attacked him and broke his

:07:55. > :07:56.nose. This is the entrance to the athletes' village where thousands of

:07:57. > :08:03.competitors are housed for the duration of the games. Police were

:08:04. > :08:12.called here yesterday morning were the arrested Francois Tunde. Today,

:08:13. > :08:14.the 29-year-old pleaded guilty to head-butting Gareth Evans during an

:08:15. > :08:19.altercation in the Athletes' Village. The court heard a problem

:08:20. > :08:24.arose between the two madmen at Mr Evans' girlfriend had Francois Tunde

:08:25. > :08:30.as he was being congratulated for winning a medal. Today, the sheriff

:08:31. > :08:34.ordered him to pay ?400 to Mr Evans. He also had his accreditation

:08:35. > :08:39.removed so he cannot be part of the closing ceremony. Tonight, the boss

:08:40. > :08:42.of team Wales told me that as far as he is concerned, the matter is

:08:43. > :08:48.closed. Gareth Evans will be staying on to enjoy the final few days. It

:08:49. > :08:51.was a bump on the nose. Certainly, a lot of blood, but he seems fine. In

:08:52. > :08:56.fact, he was watching the competition. He is fine. It is

:08:57. > :09:01.important to stress that he is the innocent party. The way it has been

:09:02. > :09:07.handled by the police and our security liaison, it has been dealt

:09:08. > :09:10.with swiftly. The leaders of the competing teams have been asked to

:09:11. > :09:12.remind their athletes of the competing teams have been asked to

:09:13. > :09:16.remind their athletes there is incidents of drunkenness and

:09:17. > :09:19.misbehaviour in the Athletes' Village. Team Wales say their group

:09:20. > :09:25.has been well-behaved but they have been reminded of their own code of

:09:26. > :09:28.conduct. More than a quarter of 5 euros in Wales are overweight.

:09:29. > :09:33.Figures from Public Health Wales show 26% of children due to start

:09:34. > :09:39.Primary School way too much for their age. The study found that

:09:40. > :09:43.overweight children most often live in deprived areas in Wales. Experts

:09:44. > :09:49.say that changing behaviour could help. How often do you see children

:09:50. > :09:55.in the street saying, if you are good, and will buy you an ice

:09:56. > :09:58.cream? That gives the wrong psychological message. You build up

:09:59. > :10:07.those patterns for life. If you change that at five, think about

:10:08. > :10:18.different treats, that sort of thing, it will be effective. Some

:10:19. > :10:22.welcome rain for gardeners. If anything by Saturday, too much. We

:10:23. > :10:26.could see localised flooding. Heavy rain and showers over the next 48

:10:27. > :10:33.hours. Feeling cooler than recently but by the time we get to Sunday, we

:10:34. > :10:35.can look forward to sunshine. Through Sunday, showers dotted

:10:36. > :10:42.around. More showers coming in overnight. Temperatures still on the

:10:43. > :10:46.mild side, between 14 and 17. Those are showers will continue their

:10:47. > :10:53.journey eastwards, merging. Heavy at times, and it could be thundery.

:10:54. > :10:59.Temperatures in the high teens and low 20s. For the rest of the UK, the

:11:00. > :11:03.showers are continuing. The best of the dry and bright weather across

:11:04. > :11:08.south-east England. For the Commonwealth tomorrow, heavy showers

:11:09. > :11:13.in the morning. By the afternoon, we can look forward to sunshine and

:11:14. > :11:18.showers. Tomorrow afternoon, very little chance of sunshine. A

:11:19. > :11:22.miserable afternoon. Showers continuing to merge into longer

:11:23. > :11:27.spells of rain. Intense downpours. Temperatures between 17 and 19. The

:11:28. > :11:30.rain will continue on and off. And you can see where we have got the

:11:31. > :11:37.intensity. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning. There is a risk of

:11:38. > :11:41.localised flooding. Gradually, the rain will clear through Saturday

:11:42. > :11:46.morning. Maybe lingering across parts of the North. Brighter in the

:11:47. > :11:50.South. Sunday is looking like the best day of the weekend. We can look

:11:51. > :11:56.forward to more sunshine and fewer showers. Newsnight is over on BBC

:11:57. > :11:59.Two now with an exclusive interview on complaints about Steiner schools.

:12:00. > :12:02.That is Wales today. Good night.
