:00:17. > :00:20.A review set up to stop neglect in care homes across Wales will only be

:00:21. > :00:25.able to do its job if more people come forward to give evidence.

:00:26. > :00:27.That's the message tonight from the relatives of elderly

:00:28. > :00:31.people allegedly neglected in homes across the Gwent area.

:00:32. > :00:34.The Welsh Government set up the independent inquiry after the

:00:35. > :00:39.biggest ever police investigation into neglect collapsed last year.

:00:40. > :00:50.You may find some of the details in Paul Heaney's report distressing.

:00:51. > :01:00.One person was so badly neglected that they're back was eaten away and

:01:01. > :01:11.you could see the internal organs. How could that have happened?

:01:12. > :01:14.Lorraine describes the alleged neglect her mother and others

:01:15. > :01:19.received at their care homes. She tried to complain about her care but

:01:20. > :01:24.only discovered the true extent of her mother's injuries he was after

:01:25. > :01:31.she died. It was just one of more than 100 cases investigated. When

:01:32. > :01:37.the police spent seven years amassing evidence from over 4000

:01:38. > :01:42.people at the cost of ?11 million. Charges were brought against this

:01:43. > :02:00.Doctor but he suffered brain damage and couldn't stand trial. This isn't

:02:01. > :02:07.about proportioning blame or compensation. We do need to continue

:02:08. > :02:12.this campaign because we really don't want this to happen to any

:02:13. > :02:17.other families. Gail says people must have known her aunt was

:02:18. > :02:22.suffering in a care home before she died. She feels speaking to the

:02:23. > :02:30.doctor's review is the last chance to make amends. There are people who

:02:31. > :02:37.knew. And they have not come forward as yet? Not far as we know. Neglect

:02:38. > :02:46.is alleged to have taken place in a recently as well. -- more recently.

:02:47. > :02:51.BBC Wales to the story of the Rannoch in her nursing home earlier

:02:52. > :02:55.this year. The lower will suit changed to make it easier to

:02:56. > :03:00.prosecute managers and owners of care homes but that's not enough for

:03:01. > :03:03.some. There is greater legal protection for children rather than

:03:04. > :03:13.elderly people. That's not good enough at the moment. Care standards

:03:14. > :03:18.Inspectorate has done a tremendous job but they need the support of

:03:19. > :03:24.local authorities and local and central government. These families

:03:25. > :03:27.are still wracked with guilt. They couldn't stop their loved ones

:03:28. > :03:30.suffering and don't want history to repeat itself.

:03:31. > :03:33.A driver who killed his sister and her fiance in a car crash has

:03:34. > :03:37.20-year-old Corey Davies was over the drink-drive limit

:03:38. > :03:39.when he overtook a bus while travelling from Gilfach Goch

:03:40. > :03:44.Raquel Davies and Lee Jenkins died instantly, leaving

:03:45. > :03:49.Davies, who's from Porth in the Rhondda, admitted two counts

:03:50. > :03:56.A Swansea family has lost its bid to prevent a health board

:03:57. > :04:00.moving their autistic daughter to a specialist unit in Brighton.

:04:01. > :04:03.Claire Dyer, who's 20, will have to leave the facility she's lived

:04:04. > :04:08.at since April 2012 after Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University

:04:09. > :04:12.Health Board's decision was upheld by a judge at the High Court.

:04:13. > :04:15.The health board says it can't comment about individual cases

:04:16. > :04:17.but makes every effort to arrange placements as close

:04:18. > :04:26.Education services at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council will no longer have to

:04:27. > :04:30.be monitored by inspectors after the schools watchdog, Estyn, said

:04:31. > :04:34.they'd made significant improvements over the past two years.

:04:35. > :04:39.Schools' standards and attendance are now around the Welsh average.

:04:40. > :04:42.Just over a fortnight ago, the Welsh government announced plans

:04:43. > :04:46.to build a ?1 billion relief road around the M4.

:04:47. > :04:48.Today, Friends of the Earth Cymru is threatening

:04:49. > :04:55.The environmental group says it'll proceed with a Judicial Review

:04:56. > :04:58.unless the Welsh government re-starts its consultation process

:04:59. > :05:01.but Welsh ministers remain committed to the project.

:05:02. > :05:10.Here's our political reporter, James Williams.

:05:11. > :05:16.Gridlock on the M4 around Newport, described by the Prime Minister as

:05:17. > :05:23.afoot the windpipe of the Welsh economy. The Welsh government's plan

:05:24. > :05:26.is to build a relief road. Last September ministers consulted about

:05:27. > :05:31.plans with the three routes looked at in detail. A fortnight ago, they

:05:32. > :05:36.plumped for the Black Root, a controversial decision with a ?1

:05:37. > :05:42.billion price tag. But a fourth option, the blue route, was not a

:05:43. > :05:46.part of the consultation and although we understand it was

:05:47. > :05:52.considered by the Welsh government, they questioned the legality of not

:05:53. > :05:56.including in the consultation. The environment committee has come out

:05:57. > :06:01.and said, this is an option that should have been considered by the

:06:02. > :06:05.Welsh government and they haven't considered it is in our view on

:06:06. > :06:09.unlawful so they haven't done their work thoroughly enough and we are

:06:10. > :06:15.asking them to reconsider, go back to the drawing board. In a letter

:06:16. > :06:17.sent to the Welsh government, the environmental group says questions

:06:18. > :06:24.remain as to why sufficient account wasn't given to the environmental

:06:25. > :06:29.concerns. Doubts are cast in the traffic forecasts and the total

:06:30. > :06:32.costs and funding of the scheme remains uncertain. Defending her

:06:33. > :06:39.decision against opponents of the plan, the transport minister said

:06:40. > :06:42.she expected a legal challenge. I am sure there will be a challenge but

:06:43. > :06:48.you tell me what major infrastructure project has been

:06:49. > :06:53.subject to any challenge. That is the reality of the world we and I

:06:54. > :06:56.work in. Her prediction has been realised but the Welsh government

:06:57. > :07:00.remains committed to Earth project whose wheels are already in motion

:07:01. > :07:03.but will today's development is the reality of the world we and I work

:07:04. > :07:05.in. Her prediction has been realised but the Welsh government remains

:07:06. > :07:07.committed to Earth project whose wheels are already in motion but

:07:08. > :07:10.will today's developments stool plans?

:07:11. > :07:13.Wales' boxers have picked up five bronze medals at the

:07:14. > :07:15.Commonwealth Games, bringing the total medal tally to 34.

:07:16. > :07:18.They could've been preparing to fight for gold if they had won

:07:19. > :07:22.but as Tomos Dafydd reports, all five lost their semi-finals.

:07:23. > :07:26.Lower in price will go down in history as the first Welsh woman to

:07:27. > :07:34.compete in the ring at the Commonwealth Games. -- N Price. A

:07:35. > :07:48.tougher test system this time against a two-time world champion.

:07:49. > :07:57.She is an experienced player. She's ten years older than me well. It was

:07:58. > :08:02.a close fight and I enjoyed it. Ashley Williams has swapped the

:08:03. > :08:08.battlefield for the boxing ring but their soldier was knocked down. She

:08:09. > :08:22.was second-best against his Indian opponent. Didn't see it coming. I

:08:23. > :08:33.got back up. I pushed another way. In a Celtic clash, he took on C

:08:34. > :08:41.Flynn to the home cloud -- crowd. But he eventually lost out a place

:08:42. > :08:51.in the final tonight. Hats off to him. The defending bantamweight

:08:52. > :08:57.champion was sad to settle for bronze. This fight was stopped in

:08:58. > :09:03.the second round. As it was caused by a clash of heads, the contest was

:09:04. > :09:07.ended. He was ahead in the judges scorecards and was awarded the

:09:08. > :09:13.fight. The Welsh boxer later appealed but it was rejected by

:09:14. > :09:20.officials. Elsewhere, Nathan thoroughly enjoyed a one-sided

:09:21. > :09:25.bout. He is a lifeguard but today, it was him who needed saving. His

:09:26. > :09:32.coaches through in the towel in the third round. Wales had picked up

:09:33. > :09:35.five bronze medals but there will be some disappointment that no man

:09:36. > :09:40.Welsh boxer has made it through to the final.

:09:41. > :09:42.Wales' gymnasts have had a great Games.

:09:43. > :09:45.Georgina Hockenhull won bronze on the beam.

:09:46. > :09:48.It was the 17-year-old's second medal here.

:09:49. > :09:52.She won bronze on Tuesday in the overall team event.

:09:53. > :09:55.To France now where the women's rugby World Cup has begun.

:09:56. > :09:58.Tonight, Wales took on the hosts and despite a valiant effort,

:09:59. > :10:08.they failed to score any points, eventually losing 26-0 to France.

:10:09. > :10:11.Time for a check on the weekend weather forecast now and Benny,

:10:12. > :10:24.By the time we get to Sunday, we can look forward to something drier and

:10:25. > :10:36.brighter. There is a risk of localised flooding. It is moving

:10:37. > :10:43.north and east woods. Intense downpours possible. We could see

:10:44. > :10:47.almost two inches of rain. With that comes the risk of flooding. The rain

:10:48. > :10:52.continuing through tomorrow and you can see the intensity there with the

:10:53. > :10:58.green. Tomorrow morning, not a nice morning but things will improve. For

:10:59. > :11:06.the rest of the United Kingdom, a messy picture. Showers come up from

:11:07. > :11:12.France. For western parts, a yellow warning so potential for flooding.

:11:13. > :11:17.Temperatures still pretty warm. For Glasgow, wet from the word go so if

:11:18. > :11:21.you are going to any games, be prepared for that. For us here in

:11:22. > :11:29.Wales tomorrow afternoon, we can look forward to something drier and

:11:30. > :11:34.brighter but patchy rain continues. Temperatures 16-21?C. The rain will

:11:35. > :11:39.continue for a time tomorrow night before clearing. The winds pick up

:11:40. > :11:44.and we could see them reaching gale force at times. But then it looks

:11:45. > :11:47.better by the time we go into Sunday. Bright and breezy and just

:11:48. > :11:50.the risk of the old, isolated shower.

:11:51. > :11:54.From me, Benny and everyone on the late team,

:11:55. > :11:58.enjoy the rest of your Friday evening and have a lovely weekend.
