:00:00. > 3:59:59Try to keep some optimism. Thank you very much. That's all from the BBC

:00:00. > :00:00.News at Six. Goodbye from Welcome to Wales Today. Our top

:00:00. > :00:00.story: Protesters' plans for a peace camp

:00:07. > :00:09.on this park angers Newport residents ahead of next month's NATO

:00:10. > :00:25.summit. The council did try to accommodate

:00:26. > :00:26.them elsewhere, but the peace protesters decided that they were

:00:27. > :00:39.going to camp. End the persecution of Christians in

:00:40. > :00:45.Iraq - the Archbishop of Wales leads calls from faith leaders here.

:00:46. > :00:49.The C difficile outbreak at Glan Clwyd hospital which led to 96 cases

:00:50. > :00:54.- police say they'll take no action. Top London chef Bryn Williams and

:00:55. > :00:58.plans to open a seaside bistro in Colwyn Bay - tonight the on-going

:00:59. > :01:02.wrangle over who'll pick up the bill.

:01:03. > :01:04.And Gareth Bale back in his hometown with Real Madrid as Cardiff gets

:01:05. > :01:20.ready to host the UEFA Super Cup. I do not feel the pressure of being

:01:21. > :01:42.back warm. It is a big match that we want to win. I will put 110% into

:01:43. > :01:50.it. The so-called peace camp this to be

:01:51. > :02:02.set up. Police say there will be more officers in the area.

:02:03. > :02:11.This there is a small Green space in an urban district. Last week it

:02:12. > :02:16.became apparent that hundreds of people queued camp here as a

:02:17. > :02:22.sideshow to the NATO conference next month to voice their opposition to

:02:23. > :02:26.it. Since then residents have voiced their concerns. They are holding a

:02:27. > :02:31.public meeting to find out what is going on tonight.

:02:32. > :02:37.This is what a peace camp looked like in Gleneagles in Scotland in

:02:38. > :02:41.2005. Set up as an alternative summit for those wishing to

:02:42. > :02:45.demonstrate against the main event. Something similar could take place

:02:46. > :02:51.on this council owned field in Newport next month. Some have

:02:52. > :02:57.suggested up to 1000 demonstrators could choose to camp here, but

:02:58. > :03:02.nobody knows how many could turn up. The first we knew was last week.

:03:03. > :03:06.Information I have received is that the council did try to accommodate

:03:07. > :03:09.them elsewhere in more suitable sites, but the peace protesters

:03:10. > :03:18.decided that they were going to camp here. It does not sound very

:03:19. > :03:22.peaceful to me. It sounds like an ultimatum. Less than one mile from

:03:23. > :03:33.the city centre, less than four miles from where the NATO members

:03:34. > :03:39.will stay. Newport council are in a difficult

:03:40. > :03:46.position. Even if 12 people say they want is to elect tents on public

:03:47. > :03:51.land and they do that then it does present safeguarding issues. There

:03:52. > :03:58.are public health and sanitation issues. It is difficult. Setting up

:03:59. > :04:02.a tent on public land is not a criminal offence. Some who have

:04:03. > :04:06.planned to demonstrate say they are willing to negotiate on where they

:04:07. > :04:12.will camp. We are sorry if it will be a

:04:13. > :04:23.problem. We will do our best to make it as incident free as possible.

:04:24. > :04:28.Does that includes looking at other sites? Yes. Plenty to talk about at

:04:29. > :04:40.the nearby community Centre tonight where residents wants to voice their

:04:41. > :04:46.concerns. Thank you for joining me. What is at

:04:47. > :04:54.the heart of the concerns of people this evening? People locally

:04:55. > :05:02.recognise that people have a right to express their opinion. The issue

:05:03. > :05:17.is that this is an irresponsible place to put a peace camp. This is a

:05:18. > :05:21.resource for the community. The protesters say they will only be

:05:22. > :05:31.here for one week and they will take the afterwards. How can they

:05:32. > :05:37.guarantee that? It is not a suitable site to locate a camp. There are

:05:38. > :05:47.issues with Jane edge. I would not want to stay in a tent here for one

:05:48. > :05:54.week. -- issues with Jane edge. Nobody wants to take responsibility

:05:55. > :05:58.for it. This meeting has been described as an emergency meeting. I

:05:59. > :06:06.would like to see common sense prevail. I have no issue with

:06:07. > :06:16.protest, but it should be kept away from a residential area.

:06:17. > :06:18.Thank you for your time. We will see what happens in the community Centre

:06:19. > :06:29.this evening. Iraqi Christians living here have

:06:30. > :06:31.met the Archbishop of Wales to try and persuade the

:06:32. > :06:34.British Government to do more to help the Christian minority stranded

:06:35. > :06:37.in Iraq's Sinjar mountains. As well as more targetted aid they

:06:38. > :06:42.want the UK to take in refugees and they say they fear for the safety of

:06:43. > :07:02.families caught up in the crisis. These Iraqi Christians have been

:07:03. > :07:10.living in Wales for decades. They still have family back in Iraq who

:07:11. > :07:15.are part of a Christian minority. They go to work and go back to their

:07:16. > :07:23.families. Today they met with the Archbishop of Wales to discuss the

:07:24. > :07:38.growing crisis. Thousands are now living in appalling conditions and

:07:39. > :07:44.Sinjar Mountains. The RAF was able to deliver

:07:45. > :07:48.essential supplies last night. Leaders of all faiths in the wheels

:07:49. > :08:19.are sending an open letter to MPs voicing concern. -- leaders of all

:08:20. > :08:36.faiths and Wales. They all condemn those who have

:08:37. > :08:45.joined ISIS. One of the youngsters he is

:08:46. > :08:50.defending to us this jihadist. In the last three days this person

:08:51. > :09:02.appears to have set up a new Twitter account. It cannot be verified, but

:09:03. > :09:08.he now goes under a new alias. In another post he says he spent the

:09:09. > :09:20.day with German brothers meeting to do martyrdom operations.

:09:21. > :09:28.He also posts pictures of US military vehicles they claim they

:09:29. > :09:34.have seized. Many Welsh MPs believe parliament

:09:35. > :09:46.should be recalled to address the crisis. MPs feel very strongly about

:09:47. > :09:50.these issues. The International Development Secretary said the

:09:51. > :09:59.humanitarian situation in Iraq is now deeply worrying.

:10:00. > :10:02.North Wales Police says it won't be taking any action following a C

:10:03. > :10:04.difficile outbreak at Glan Clwyd Hospital last year.

:10:05. > :10:07.The Plaid Cymru AM Llyr Gruffydd had asked the force to investigate

:10:08. > :10:10.whether there had been any criminal failings which led to 96 cases

:10:11. > :10:25.Our reporter Matthew Richards is at Glan Clwyd Hospital.

:10:26. > :10:31.30 of those patients died between January and May last year. They did

:10:32. > :10:39.not die as a consequence of C difficile but they all have that

:10:40. > :10:47.infection. It was said there was a lack of communication and

:10:48. > :10:50.monitoring. Llyr Gruffydd asked North Wales Police to investigate

:10:51. > :10:53.because he thought there might be a case of corporate manslaughter to

:10:54. > :10:57.answer. What have the police said this

:10:58. > :11:01.evening? They have said after a ten month

:11:02. > :11:09.long investigation no further action will be taken. A spokesperson for

:11:10. > :11:16.the board said they were satisfied with the outcome of the

:11:17. > :11:26.investigation. In recent months new infection controls have been put in

:11:27. > :11:31.place. This might not be the end of the

:11:32. > :11:32.matter. The Health and Safety Executive could still have the

:11:33. > :11:38.option of prosecution. Police are investigating after a

:11:39. > :11:41.40-year-old coach from Maesteg Rugby Club, died on a stag party in

:11:42. > :11:43.Manchester. Father of two - Austen Howells - was

:11:44. > :11:46.found in his hotel room on Saturday afternoon. Officers say there are no

:11:47. > :11:49.suspicious circumstances. A club spokesman said he was a talented

:11:50. > :11:53.player and coach. More money is being made available

:11:54. > :11:56.for victims of sexual violence. The Welsh Government is giving

:11:57. > :11:59.?180,000 to organisations who are They say, there's been

:12:00. > :12:05.an increase in demand for their services - particularly from those

:12:06. > :12:11.who suffered historical abuse. It's understood that the operators

:12:12. > :12:14.of Hawarden Airport have decided not to continue with plans for

:12:15. > :12:16.commercial flights to UK airports. The company had invested ?1million

:12:17. > :12:22.in a new terminal building, but plans to offer flights to major

:12:23. > :12:25.UK cities have been withdrawn. One local AM says

:12:26. > :12:38.she's disappointed. I think it is a loss for the region.

:12:39. > :12:50.It had a lot of support from local businesses. It is also a fantastic

:12:51. > :12:51.way of linking North Wales to Scotland and other areas which would

:12:52. > :12:58.hopefully have encouraged tourism. Extra council taxpayers? cash is to

:12:59. > :13:01.be spent on modifying a seafront building in Colwyn Bay, so it can

:13:02. > :13:04.accommodate a celebrity chef. Bryn Williams is best known

:13:05. > :13:06.for his appearances on TV programmes such as Great

:13:07. > :13:08.British Menu and owns a restaurant It was announced last September that

:13:09. > :13:13.he was to run the bistro in the Porth Eirias watersports centre, but

:13:14. > :13:16.it has yet to open to the public. Now questions are being asked

:13:17. > :13:18.about whether the whole building is Our reporter Chris Dearden

:13:19. > :13:25.can tell us more. It was supposed to be part of a new

:13:26. > :13:32.start for this area. The watersports centre was opened by the First

:13:33. > :13:37.Minister. Bryn Williams was choose to open a bistro in time for

:13:38. > :13:44.Christmas last year. 11 months later very little has

:13:45. > :13:49.happened. More money is going to have to be spent before this place

:13:50. > :13:54.can open. The outside of the building has been operating as a

:13:55. > :13:58.watersports Centre for one year. The question today was how much money

:13:59. > :14:03.should the council put into finishing inside. Not everyone

:14:04. > :14:09.thinks it is a good idea to spend any more. The watersports facilities

:14:10. > :14:17.is excellent. That's part of the facility is thriving. But the other

:14:18. > :14:24.part has been standing empty. It is costing ?100,000 per year to

:14:25. > :14:28.maintain that. The council says that is why it is watching the figures

:14:29. > :14:41.carefully. This is the kitchen India. Today the council agreed to

:14:42. > :14:50.spend an extra ?33,000 to finish it. -- this is the kitchen area.

:14:51. > :15:02.This is part of a regeneration scheme. In the scale of things it is

:15:03. > :15:06.very little we need to get it right. The summer sunshine is likely to

:15:07. > :15:12.have faded before the first meals are served.

:15:13. > :15:18.Colleagues say Bryn Williams remains committed to opening where he can.

:15:19. > :15:20.Much more to come before seven o'clock.

:15:21. > :15:22.Gareth Bale back in his hometown with Real Madrid as Cardiff gets

:15:23. > :15:26.And Wales captain Sam Warburton's club career in limbo -

:15:27. > :15:39.after the Cardiff Blues wouldn't select him to play in a friendly.

:15:40. > :15:47.Should Welsh MPs be able to decide things that only affect England? A

:15:48. > :15:53.former MP says they should not. John Redwood sees the settlement be have

:15:54. > :16:00.now is not fair. How would John Redwood change things? He is

:16:01. > :16:10.effectively talking about an English parliament. A new institution in a

:16:11. > :16:14.new building. Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish MPs would not be able

:16:15. > :16:20.to take part in that. Under devolution we have a situation where

:16:21. > :16:23.Welsh MPs have now see what happens on Welsh schools and hospitals

:16:24. > :16:27.because all that happens in the assembly, but they do have a say in

:16:28. > :16:32.what happens in English schools and hospitals. I am not just talking

:16:33. > :16:37.about health and education. Increasingly tax powers are being

:16:38. > :16:47.devolved as well. We need to define what is English business. But

:16:48. > :16:55.English business should only be debated and fought it on by English

:16:56. > :17:02.MPs in Westminster. -- and faltered on.

:17:03. > :17:08.This is an old problem. We have talked about this before. Why is

:17:09. > :17:13.John Redwood raising this? It used to be called the West

:17:14. > :17:19.Lothian question. Now it is called the English question. It asks what

:17:20. > :17:24.do MPs do if the powers are devolved to Cardiff and Edinburgh? What has

:17:25. > :17:28.prompted John Redwood to get involved is the Independence

:17:29. > :17:33.Referendum in Scotland next month. All the main political parties have

:17:34. > :17:38.said that if Scotland votes against independence then Babel gave

:17:39. > :17:46.Scotland more tax-raising powers. -- then they will give.

:17:47. > :17:53.He says people and England will not stand for a situation where the

:17:54. > :18:01.taxes they pay are decided in part by Welsh MPs.

:18:02. > :18:09.Gareth Bale is back in Cardiff. He is playing in the Super Cup with

:18:10. > :18:13.European champions Real Madrid. I spoke to a few people this

:18:14. > :18:22.afternoon who are wondering why to Spanish clubs were playing each

:18:23. > :18:29.other in Cardiff. The Super Cup matches the winners of the Champions

:18:30. > :18:36.League with the winners of the Europa League. Cardiff has

:18:37. > :18:41.aspirations to host more big European matches. Everybody is

:18:42. > :18:43.hoping Gareth Bale can put on a show tonight.

:18:44. > :18:50.This is something Gareth Bale would never have expected bash the chance

:18:51. > :19:01.to play and chain with Real Madrid in his hometown. They flew into

:19:02. > :19:07.Cardiff yesterday. This match kicks off the second season for Gareth

:19:08. > :19:11.Bale at the club. Now he is relaxed about going for a third trophy a

:19:12. > :19:20.couple of miles from his family home. I do not feel the pressure of

:19:21. > :19:30.being back. It is obviously a big match that we want to win. I have to

:19:31. > :19:33.put 110% in. The Fiesta was building nicely on

:19:34. > :19:40.the streets of the capital this afternoon. 8000 Spanish supporters

:19:41. > :19:43.are expected in the city for the match, not to mention media from all

:19:44. > :19:47.over the world. Cardiff is keen to make an

:19:48. > :19:53.impression, not only from the supporters, but also to UEFA. Next

:19:54. > :19:59.month they will be making a big decision. Whether Cardiff can host

:20:00. > :20:09.matches in the Twenty20 championship.

:20:10. > :20:22.This is the glossy video they have produced. Either side of the match

:20:23. > :20:27.there will be lobbying. Hopefully it can make that

:20:28. > :20:46.difference. If we win the bed it will be because Wales has proven it

:20:47. > :20:58.can deliver. -- if we win the bid. This was the last time a European

:20:59. > :21:03.match was held here. As the rain starts to fall we have

:21:04. > :21:10.just had the news that Gareth Bale is in the starting line-up for Real

:21:11. > :21:18.Madrid. That is despite a joke from the manager yesterday that he might

:21:19. > :21:21.leave him on the bench. The majority of the crowd tonight our local

:21:22. > :21:27.people. They will all be supporting one man.

:21:28. > :21:29.Rugby and Wales captain Sam Warburton's club career appears

:21:30. > :21:33.It?s after the Cardiff Blues announced they would not select him

:21:34. > :21:35.to play in a friendly match later this week.

:21:36. > :21:38.Warburton is the only player to have signed a central contract with

:21:39. > :21:41.the Welsh Rugby Union, and has been training with the Blues.

:21:42. > :21:48.Ross, why won?t the Blues pick Warburton?

:21:49. > :21:59.It all goes back to the idea of central contracts. Warburton was the

:22:00. > :22:02.only person to take them up on that. The other five targets either went

:22:03. > :22:10.to France or re-signed with the regions. The regions feared that

:22:11. > :22:20.they would be competing for signatures of top players.

:22:21. > :22:28.It was agreed not to pick any player until the row was resolved. There is

:22:29. > :22:36.not a new participation agreement. The blues are sticking to their

:22:37. > :22:45.guns. The four regions have forged a sense of unity.

:22:46. > :22:52.While the bickering continues we are placed -- we are faced with this

:22:53. > :23:00.scenario, that the captain will be on the sidelines. We can only hope

:23:01. > :23:01.this episode injects urgency into proceedings. There is another

:23:02. > :23:08.meeting scheduled tomorrow. New Zealander Wayne Pivac takes over

:23:09. > :23:12.from Simon Easterby who's joined the Ireland set-up. Pivac was appointed

:23:13. > :23:15.as assistant coach at the Welsh Pivac was appointed as assistant

:23:16. > :23:39.coach at the Welsh region back There are calls tonight for an area

:23:40. > :23:42.known for its 200 million-year-old dinosaur footprints to be closed off

:23:43. > :23:45.to the public to prevent any further Bendrick Rock in the Vale

:23:46. > :23:49.of Glamorgan is home to dozens The organisation which owns the

:23:50. > :23:54.land says it doesn't plan to block public access - but it does want

:23:55. > :24:15.visitors to behave responsibly. These dinosaur footprints were found

:24:16. > :24:21.in the 1970s. This is now an alien of scientific interest, but is it

:24:22. > :24:34.being shown the respect it deserves. -- and easier scientific

:24:35. > :24:44.interest. They had come back and used a big boulder to try and

:24:45. > :24:48.dislodge the print. This caused damage to the other dinosaur

:24:49. > :24:57.footprints. The group has also found evidence of fire is being lit near

:24:58. > :25:09.the Prince. -- lit near the footprints.

:25:10. > :25:13.There are no calls for the beach to be fenced off to prevent members of

:25:14. > :25:22.the public doing more damage, but the land owners have no intention of

:25:23. > :25:27.doing that. We want people to appreciate it. We want them to use

:25:28. > :25:31.it responsibly. The message is that members of the public have the part

:25:32. > :25:44.to play in preserving the fossils at Bendrick Rock.

:25:45. > :25:55.Here is the weather. We have had a day of sunny spells and heavy

:25:56. > :26:09.showers. More in the way of sunshine tomorrow. This evening many places

:26:10. > :26:19.dry with clear spells. Low pressure towards the North of the UK. At the

:26:20. > :26:27.same time high pressure builds from the South West. Tomorrow if you

:26:28. > :26:44.showers are possible. -- tomorrow some showers are possible.

:26:45. > :26:53.Temperatures slightly higher. Biden is innate, some showers around. --

:26:54. > :27:03.weight and stay late some showers around.

:27:04. > :27:09.It is likely to be the last of the unsettled days. He pressure builds

:27:10. > :27:16.towards the end of the week. More settled through Friday and into the

:27:17. > :27:27.weekend. Some sunny spells as well. Here are the headlines. Plans for an

:27:28. > :27:34.anti-NATO peace camp in Newport have angered residents who are worried

:27:35. > :27:37.that it will be a focus for trouble. The council sees those coming have

:27:38. > :27:40.the right to protest. I will be back with an update at

:27:41. > :27:48.8pm. That is all for now. Goodbye. We've got factory boys and butchers'

:27:49. > :27:52.apprentices and office clerks Don't stop moving!

:27:53. > :27:58.If you go back you'll die!
