:00:14. > :00:16.The Chief Executive of Pembrokeshire Council is to step aside with

:00:17. > :00:18.immediate effect following a row over unlawful payments he received.

:00:19. > :00:21.The council has announced that Bryn Parry Jones is taking a period of

:00:22. > :00:26.He's currently under investigation by police over cash payments he

:00:27. > :00:43.received instead of pension contributions.

:00:44. > :00:50.Last Friday, these protesters wanted the Chief Executive of the council

:00:51. > :00:54.to go. Today, he stepped aside for a period of absence after months of

:00:55. > :00:58.pressure for someone who has become a highly controversial figure. In

:00:59. > :01:01.January, the Wales Audit Office decided that cash payments made to

:01:02. > :01:06.Bryn Parry Jones and another senior council official instead of pension

:01:07. > :01:10.contributions were unlawful. That led to a police investigation but no

:01:11. > :01:15.evidence of any criminal offences was found. In July, the council

:01:16. > :01:21.decided not to take any further action to reclaim the money worth

:01:22. > :01:23.more than ?45,000. But a week later, a new police investigation

:01:24. > :01:29.was launched with fresh information. Now it is claimed Bryn

:01:30. > :01:33.Parry Jones spoke to two members of the council 's ruling independent

:01:34. > :01:37.group asking why they voted for him to give the money back. One of them

:01:38. > :01:41.says the chief executive has done the right thing. The Chief Executive

:01:42. > :01:48.has taken a very honourable position this morning, with himself and the

:01:49. > :01:51.leader. I think it is probably the right decision. The focus has been

:01:52. > :01:58.on the Chief Executive for the last 18 months. It is a distraction for

:01:59. > :02:01.the council. Some feel Bryn Parry Jones has blurred the lines between

:02:02. > :02:08.politics and the job of a neutral official. They have put him on

:02:09. > :02:13.gardening leave. It is quite nice burning full pay for this gardening

:02:14. > :02:17.leave. It is not much of a sanction, if you ask me. We need to move

:02:18. > :02:22.quickly to make sure that there is a real change in Pembrokeshire. This

:02:23. > :02:30.former Council Chief Executive says they do a tough job managing big

:02:31. > :02:34.budgets and thousands of staff. They are unusual because they along with

:02:35. > :02:39.one or two other senior officers on the council are subject to statutory

:02:40. > :02:42.protection. They actually are very well protected and the council would

:02:43. > :02:48.have to be very clear of its ground if it want to take any formal

:02:49. > :02:50.discipline reaction. It cannot also without a totally independent

:02:51. > :02:54.inspection by somebody outside of the council. The leader of

:02:55. > :02:57.Pembrokeshire Council says Bryn Parry Jones 's departure is in the

:02:58. > :03:01.best interests of the authority at this present time. The Jeff

:03:02. > :03:07.executive 's critics are determined to make sure that his absence from

:03:08. > :03:09.the headquarters becomes a permanent one. -- Chief Executive.

:03:10. > :03:11.A rally co-driver from Carmarthenshire has been

:03:12. > :03:14.injured in a crash in Northern Ireland which killed his driver.

:03:15. > :03:16.Dai Roberts has been airlifted to hospital after the car left

:03:17. > :03:18.the road during the Ulster Rally earlier this afternoon.

:03:19. > :03:21.He is said to be in a stable condition.

:03:22. > :03:22.20-year-old Timothy Cathcart died in the crash.

:03:23. > :03:28.The rest of the rally has been cancelled.

:03:29. > :03:30.Babies who are normally too young to be vaccinated against measles have

:03:31. > :03:33.been given the MMR jab in a bid to contain an outbreak

:03:34. > :03:38.There have been two confirmed cases at the Miles of Smiles nursery

:03:39. > :03:41.in Baglan and five other children have been tested for the virus.

:03:42. > :03:42.But Public Health Wales are confident that

:03:43. > :04:00.This is the nursery at the centre of the latest measles out break in the

:04:01. > :04:06.Swansea Bay area. Two children attending the nursery in Baglan have

:04:07. > :04:11.been confirmed as having measles, five others are being tested for the

:04:12. > :04:14.virus. Public Health Wales said the vaccination take a bad business

:04:15. > :04:17.three was good but some children were at risk because under normal

:04:18. > :04:24.circumstances they were too young to have received one or both doses of

:04:25. > :04:28.the MMR vaccine. The first MMR jab is normally given at 12 months of

:04:29. > :04:32.age with a second administered when the child is three years and four

:04:33. > :04:35.months old. But today there was an opportunity for parents to get their

:04:36. > :04:42.children vaccinated earlier than usual. We have a responsibility to

:04:43. > :04:47.the children to make sure that the outbreak does not go any further. We

:04:48. > :04:52.have had a high volume of children who have already had a vaccination,

:04:53. > :04:56.it is just a small minority, that is why we have set up what we have set

:04:57. > :05:03.up today. Hopefully any -- everybody is now 100% protected. This comes a

:05:04. > :05:10.year after Wales 's worst measles epidemic was declared officially

:05:11. > :05:15.over. Most of the cases were in the Swansea area. One man died from

:05:16. > :05:22.pneumonia after contracting measles. The father of one was 25. Further

:05:23. > :05:25.cases of measles were later identified at this secondary school

:05:26. > :05:30.in the Swansea Valley. But health officials are confident the outbreak

:05:31. > :05:33.at the nursery is already under control, thanks in part to the

:05:34. > :05:39.prompt action taken by the nursery staff. This is not a case of

:05:40. > :05:44.panicking, this is not the case of an outbreak like we had in 2013, it

:05:45. > :05:49.is not as wide as that. But as ever, with all vaccinations, it is the

:05:50. > :05:53.best things to do, get your child vaccinated in line with the

:05:54. > :05:56.schedule. In the meantime, the nursery is open as normal and after

:05:57. > :05:58.this morning 's vaccination session, more of the children who

:05:59. > :06:02.come here are protected against measles.

:06:03. > :06:05.The NHS in Wales will be the first in the UK

:06:06. > :06:07.to fund a cannabis-based medicine for people with multiple sclerosis.

:06:08. > :06:10.Sativex, an oral spray, has been approved by the All Wales Medicines

:06:11. > :06:12.Strategy Group and will be available on prescription to treat muscle

:06:13. > :06:15.spasms for MS sufferers who have not responded to other treatments.

:06:16. > :06:21.It is the first of its kind to be licensed in the UK.

:06:22. > :06:22.Hundreds of people paid tribute to Arthur

:06:23. > :06:25.Jones, who died after going missing on a walking holiday on Crete,

:06:26. > :06:28.Motorcyclists rode alongside the procession in Denbigh

:06:29. > :06:31.and there was a guard of honour for the former soldier.

:06:32. > :06:44.The 73-year-old was described as a popular character in his hometown.

:06:45. > :06:52.He had many friends and his motorcycle club involvement and so

:06:53. > :06:56.on, he used to marshal the parade for the remembrance service. He was

:06:57. > :06:59.always very much publicly on display then and was involved in much

:07:00. > :07:04.charity work as well. And was also a very good laugh, a very good

:07:05. > :07:06.raconteur. He was a very popular gentleman.

:07:07. > :07:09.Cricket on Glamorgan bowled out Essex for 286 on the first day

:07:10. > :07:12.of their championship match at St Helens in Swansea.

:07:13. > :07:17.At the close, the Welsh county were 27 for 1 in reply, 259 runs behind.

:07:18. > :07:19.As events continue to commemorate the centenary of the start of

:07:20. > :07:22.World War I in Flanders, a new memorial to all those

:07:23. > :07:25.from Wales who took part in the conflict will be unveiled tomorrow.

:07:26. > :07:27.It is estimated that as many as 40,000 soldiers,

:07:28. > :07:29.sailors and airmen from Wales died between 1914 and 1918.

:07:30. > :07:34.We will be live in Flanders on tomorrow night 's programme.

:07:35. > :07:56.Time now for the weather forecast.

:07:57. > :08:05.fallen in Cardiff in the last four night. 126 ministers, that is five

:08:06. > :08:09.inches of rain. But I can promise plenty of dry weather over the

:08:30. > :08:31.As time goes on, cloud will spread into North and mid Wales. Across the

:08:32. > :08:37.rest of the UK, many southern and eastern areas fine and bright.

:09:15. > :09:21.move to the South, bringing rain. Tomorrow night, a cold front will
