:00:09. > :00:19.Tolls on the Severn Bridge would be scrapped

:00:20. > :00:21.if the Liberal Democrats are in government in Westminster after

:00:22. > :00:25.The party say commuters will be hundreds of pounds better

:00:26. > :00:42.off year and the Welsh economy will benefit by more than ?100 million.

:00:43. > :00:48.80,000 vehicles use these bridges on average every day. And they are all

:00:49. > :00:55.paying for the privilege. These lorries pay just under ?20 to cross.

:00:56. > :00:58.Cars are charged ?6 40. But the Liberal Democrats are prepared to

:00:59. > :01:04.get the cheque-book out and cover the cost of running the bridge, some

:01:05. > :01:07.per year, once the million pound cost of building the second Severn

:01:08. > :01:14.Crossing is paid back. All of the money now raised goes to a private

:01:15. > :01:19.company but from 2018, any money raised will go to the Treasury. It

:01:20. > :01:23.costs almost ?7 to cross one of the seven bridges in a car these days

:01:24. > :01:30.but for how long? The Liberal Democrats want to scrap the charges

:01:31. > :01:34.by 2018 and deliver a boost to the Welsh economy. And they have put a

:01:35. > :01:41.price on that boost. ?107 million per year saving commuters over ?1500

:01:42. > :01:45.per year. We want to rebalance the UK economy. In the past, too much

:01:46. > :01:50.attention and focus has been on the south-east. We want to make sure

:01:51. > :01:58.that the economic recovery happens across the UK, the tolls represent a

:01:59. > :02:03.tax on the Welsh economy. We want to see that tax gotten rid of. The

:02:04. > :02:06.bridges revert to public ownership halfway through the next Parliament

:02:07. > :02:13.and the Liberal Democrats are the first party to pledge to scrap the

:02:14. > :02:19.tolls. But many want the tolls scrapped as soon as possible. A

:02:20. > :02:23.recent Saint Davids Day protest against tolls on the bridges heard

:02:24. > :02:29.from campaigners who see the -- who say the cost of crossing them hits

:02:30. > :02:33.the economy hard. This Newport haulage company as one hit by the

:02:34. > :02:39.costs. We welcome any reduction in cost. It would help the company

:02:40. > :02:44.become more competitive and help us put more into the company. Our

:02:45. > :02:48.current spend at the moment for the Severn Bridge is around about

:02:49. > :02:53.?500,000 per annum. It is a significant cost. Last year, First

:02:54. > :02:57.Minister said he favoured reducing the tolls and today the Welsh

:02:58. > :03:02.Government has demanded a say on their future. When the Prince of

:03:03. > :03:08.Wales officially opened the second crossing in 1996, it cost just ?3 84

:03:09. > :03:14.a cart across and the debate is still under way. But it is not just

:03:15. > :03:16.the Liberal Democrats who wanted to be free.

:03:17. > :03:18.The former Chief Executive of a racial equality charity told

:03:19. > :03:22.police he was having to use his own credit card for charity business.

:03:23. > :03:24.The jury in a fraud trial at Swansea Crown Court heard

:03:25. > :03:27.a police interview with Naz Malik, where he said he would claim

:03:28. > :03:30.expenses back, despite his attempts to persuade AWEMA trustees to set up

:03:31. > :03:35.The 65-year-old denies three fraud charges.

:03:36. > :03:37.Gwent Police say they have been informed of the roots

:03:38. > :03:39.of two proposed marches by anti-NATO campaigners.

:03:40. > :03:42.On the day the summit starts, a march will go from the centre of

:03:43. > :03:51.Newport to the Celtic Manor resort, where the summit being held.

:03:52. > :03:55.Wales is sleepwalking into a storm because of problems recruiting

:03:56. > :03:57.That is the warning from Care Forum Wales.

:03:58. > :04:00.It says more nursing homes are closing than being opened

:04:01. > :04:13.Jack Cater Lives at the Forge care home in Cardiff.

:04:14. > :04:15.Just like the other 75 residents here, he needs specialised nursing.

:04:16. > :04:21.This isn't a residential home for the elderly.

:04:22. > :04:24.It caters the complex care needs, one of hundreds of private nursing

:04:25. > :04:30.Day to day, Alex Kelleher is the director of nursing.

:04:31. > :04:37.She is a trained nurse and tonight she is so short staffed, she is

:04:38. > :04:40.Whereas in the past, we had quite a big bank of our own

:04:41. > :04:43.nurses in the group, we have very few now and the nurses often work in

:04:44. > :04:53.two or three different settings, so it is very difficult to find cover.

:04:54. > :04:56.Last week we learned that two homes in Bridgend, similar to this one,

:04:57. > :05:01.The company that owns them says it is because they cannot recruit

:05:02. > :05:08.Now, Care Forum Wales is warning that the situation won't improve,

:05:09. > :05:17.We either collaborate and work together or do more

:05:18. > :05:22.of what we have done in the past and get what we always got,

:05:23. > :05:24.confusion, money not very well spent, resources not best used and

:05:25. > :05:30.that leads to problems down the line.

:05:31. > :05:32.And the Royal College of Nursing believes those problems are not

:05:33. > :05:49.With the adverse publicity of the stress of what it means to working

:05:50. > :05:52.nursing, we are not seeing nurses staying and something

:05:53. > :05:54.nursing, we are not seeing nurses have to be done to actually look at

:05:55. > :05:56.the numbers that are commissioned, but more importantly, the retention

:05:57. > :06:00.factor and what we can do to but more importantly, the retention

:06:01. > :06:03.a profession that people want to remain in.

:06:04. > :06:05.The Welsh Government says health boards and trusts are responsible

:06:06. > :06:10.for identifying the workforce needs for their areas and that there is

:06:11. > :06:33.The British Mountaineering Council is calling for action to protect it

:06:34. > :06:39.But the National Park Authority says it is confident Snowdon can take the

:06:40. > :06:55.strain and says it is spending money on making the mountain accessible.

:06:56. > :07:26.We have only just finished the Commonwealth Games

:07:27. > :07:28.but already another major sporting event is to start this week

:07:29. > :07:32.The opening ceremony of the IPC European Athletics

:07:33. > :07:33.Championships took place tonight at Swansea University.

:07:34. > :07:36.The actual sport starts tomorrow and runs until Saturday,

:07:37. > :07:49.with lots of the stars of the London Paralympics taking part.

:07:50. > :07:54.And some of the record-breaking Commonwealth games Wales squad have

:07:55. > :08:00.been celebrating their success at Allen Street. David Cameron

:08:01. > :08:14.congratulated a number of athletes. It may be August but you may need to

:08:15. > :08:18.turn on the heating this week. We are in some -- for some cold nights

:08:19. > :08:24.with more showers on the way as well. Tonight, we have showers

:08:25. > :08:32.spreading across the country, coming in from the Irish Sea. Heavy in

:08:33. > :08:36.places. Temperatures in the countryside dropping as low as six

:08:37. > :08:43.Celsius. Tomorrow, scattered showers in the morning. Having said that,

:08:44. > :08:47.there will be some dry weather and sunshine as well. Across the rest of

:08:48. > :08:55.the UK tomorrow, a mixture of sunny spells and showers. Scattered

:08:56. > :09:00.showers in England and Wales. Some places will stay completely dry

:09:01. > :09:08.tomorrow. Still quite windy and the north-east. Temperatures

:09:09. > :09:14.disappointing. In Wales tomorrow, scattered showers for mid Wales and

:09:15. > :09:21.the South. Heavy in places. The best of the sunshine likely in the north

:09:22. > :09:26.and west. Temperatures no higher than 17 Celsius. If you're heading

:09:27. > :09:33.to the Pembrokeshire County show, there is a good chance you will miss

:09:34. > :09:39.the showers. Still a few showers to come on Wednesday but hit and miss.

:09:40. > :09:43.A lot of dry and bright weather. More showers to come on Thursday,

:09:44. > :09:50.they could be heavy in places. A similar story on Friday. A dry and

:09:51. > :09:53.bright start to the bank holiday weekend but signs are to not last.
