:00:00. > :00:00.A reminder of our main story. Britain will not be cowed, says the

:00:00. > :00:19.Prime Minister. A year in the planning,

:00:20. > :00:23.now final preparations as Wales prepares to host representatives

:00:24. > :00:25.from 60 countries at the NATO And I'm here at the Celtic Manor

:00:26. > :00:29.where they're busy preparing to Ahead of the summit, the prime

:00:30. > :00:32.minister visits the Oakdale factory that's won a multi-billion

:00:33. > :00:34.pound defence contract. He says NATO is

:00:35. > :00:48.a golden opportunity for Wales. I think it is a great moment to put

:00:49. > :00:51.the best face of Wales forward, the brilliance of Welsh industry and

:00:52. > :00:52.people, a great place to come. I think it will be a great

:00:53. > :00:55.advertisement for Wales. Also tonight,

:00:56. > :00:56.turmoil at Wrexham council. Ten members of its Labour group,

:00:57. > :00:58.including the leader, resign. Top international BMX riders travel

:00:59. > :01:02.to Powys to compete It's been a year in the planning

:01:03. > :01:26.but finally Wales is ready to welcome world leaders to the

:01:27. > :01:32.NATO Summit in Newport. Final preparations have been taking

:01:33. > :01:34.place today and security for Representatives from 60 countries

:01:35. > :01:38.will meet at the Celtic Manor Resort to discuss issues such

:01:39. > :01:40.as the situation in Afghanistan Our political correspondent Daniel

:01:41. > :01:56.Davis is there for us this evening. They have been hard at work all day

:01:57. > :02:00.here. The media Centre is filling up with journalists from around the

:02:01. > :02:04.world and they have even got a replica tank on the lawn in aid of

:02:05. > :02:13.what NATO calls one of the most important summits in its history.

:02:14. > :02:16.When you are -- when your guests are this important, don't leave anything

:02:17. > :02:22.to chance. The big issues will be discussed here is the little details

:02:23. > :02:26.matter. After months of planning, the world will be watching what

:02:27. > :02:30.comes out of this hotel. We had ten years to prepare for the Ryder Cup

:02:31. > :02:34.and we have had less than a year to prepare for the NATO summit. Both

:02:35. > :02:40.hugely important but different spectrums. This is security with 60

:02:41. > :02:46.world leaders, security is totally different here to what it was that

:02:47. > :02:53.the Ryder Cup. A few miles away, and pleasant school in Rogerson appears

:02:54. > :02:59.to be keep getting ready to welcome someone. It was announced that

:03:00. > :03:05.Barack Obama was going to visit a school somewhere in Newport.

:03:06. > :03:10.He couldn't have picked a better school. He only started on Monday so

:03:11. > :03:14.it will be very exciting to beat the president.

:03:15. > :03:19.Down the coast, a show of the literary night in Cardiff Bay. NATO

:03:20. > :03:26.is showing off its warships. The latest to fly in with this one.

:03:27. > :03:30.Everyone is getting ready, either protesters who wish NATO wasn't

:03:31. > :03:35.here. There are around 100 at eight peace camp.

:03:36. > :03:42.They have threatened us. They have got the policeman guarding the

:03:43. > :03:43.motorway because they were talking about invading the motorway and

:03:44. > :03:47.stopping the traffic so I think for the moment it seems comparatively

:03:48. > :03:51.small and containable. The reason for this activity, so

:03:52. > :04:00.Western leaders can agree foreign policy. First to arrive was the

:04:01. > :04:04.Secretary General who arrived at Cardiff airport earlier.

:04:05. > :04:10.We will also discuss Iraq, Syria, the situation in the Middle East and

:04:11. > :04:18.North Africa. All in all, you see an arc of crises surrounding NATO. This

:04:19. > :04:23.summit will be conducted in a very efficient manner and when it comes

:04:24. > :04:29.to substance, it will produce significant results.

:04:30. > :04:36.The biggest physical gathering the UK has ever hosted is upon us. 60

:04:37. > :04:40.government leaders with staff and journalists are on their way.

:04:41. > :04:44.People in Cardiff and Newport will have seen the level of security that

:04:45. > :04:52.is to be expected. It is an event that will reflect well on the whole

:04:53. > :04:56.of Wales, from Newport to Holyhead. We want them to take away Wales on a

:04:57. > :05:02.plate. The ingredients are from Wales and sourced locally. We are

:05:03. > :05:11.using everything in the locality. Newport, ask, Monmouthshire, Brecon

:05:12. > :05:14.and West Wales. Even in North Wales. Russia and the Ukraine crisis,

:05:15. > :05:19.turmoil in the Middle East, withdrawing from Afghanistan. NATO

:05:20. > :05:23.has enough on its plate. The world is waiting to hear what the leaders

:05:24. > :05:26.of the Alliance will decide to do and this is where they will take

:05:27. > :05:31.their decisions. Dan, NATO has a lots to talk about.

:05:32. > :05:35.Can they really solve it in two days?

:05:36. > :05:38.It is not just the staff here at the Celtic Manor that have been getting

:05:39. > :05:41.ready for this summit. In governments around the world, at the

:05:42. > :05:45.NATO headquarters in Brussels they have been laying the ground,

:05:46. > :05:50.drafting proposals and preparing communications. What will happen in

:05:51. > :05:55.the main building behind me tomorrow is world leaders will be asked to

:05:56. > :06:00.ratify the proposals to approve these decisions and agree a way

:06:01. > :06:06.forward on what was described today as the Ark of crises that are

:06:07. > :06:10.encircling NATO members. NATO are calling this one of its

:06:11. > :06:17.most important summits. Why is that?

:06:18. > :06:21.Well, because they have so many trouble hotspots flaring up on its

:06:22. > :06:27.borders. We have seen yesterday the second American journalist killed by

:06:28. > :06:33.Islamic state fighters in Syria. We get there is a British hostage being

:06:34. > :06:39.held there as well. The Ukraine crisis has really focused minds

:06:40. > :06:42.here. You can see there is a lot for NATO to talk about and a lock for

:06:43. > :06:45.NATO to talk about and a locked fridge to get to grips with. People

:06:46. > :06:52.will be watching here to see what kind of NATO emerges. It is an

:06:53. > :06:58.organisation ready to confront new challenges.

:06:59. > :07:05.You have been there all day. What is your sense of the preparations?

:07:06. > :07:09.Just to give you an idea. It is a hive of activity. You get the

:07:10. > :07:14.impression that someone important is about to arrive. There has been a

:07:15. > :07:21.lot of noise and banging as temporary buildings go up. You can

:07:22. > :07:26.see these model replica talks behind me -- tanks. There have been a few

:07:27. > :07:31.real jet fighters buzzing overhead during this afternoon. There has

:07:32. > :07:40.been a lot of planning gone into this event. It is reaching fever

:07:41. > :07:49.pitch as world leaders prepare to arrive, including Barack Obama.

:07:50. > :07:52.There's been some disruption for motorists in the past week ahead

:07:53. > :07:55.of the NATO summit, and there will be more over the next few days.

:07:56. > :07:59.The table is all set, and we've already been warned to

:08:00. > :08:05.For schools that's meant deciding whether to stay open or close.

:08:06. > :08:09.We understand 40 schools will be closed and a further 70 are to see

:08:10. > :08:18.So if you are one of those parents trying to rush home earlier than

:08:19. > :08:20.usual, or indeed anyone trying to negotiate your way around those

:08:21. > :08:23.metal fences tonight and tomorrow, this is the latest advice.

:08:24. > :08:24.Police says there could be significant disruption

:08:25. > :08:31.at certain points around the Celtic Manor and the centre of Cardiff.

:08:32. > :08:32.Some roads will be closed from 8:30pm

:08:33. > :08:40.Rush hour tomorrow evening and Friday morning are expected to

:08:41. > :08:43.be the most difficult times but there is still no intention to

:08:44. > :08:53.Cardiff Airport where some delegates are flying in is open

:08:54. > :08:55.for business as usual during the summit, though passengers

:08:56. > :08:59.are being asked to allow extra time to get in and out of the airport.

:09:00. > :09:01.There will be extra trains between Cardiff and Newport.

:09:02. > :09:03.And our major hospitals say they're planning to run

:09:04. > :09:12.For more information about the NATO summit, you can go to our website.

:09:13. > :09:14.And of course we'll have all the latest

:09:15. > :09:20.A man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries he received

:09:21. > :09:22.in one of two crashes which closed the westbound

:09:23. > :09:28.carriageway of the A55 near Llandudno Junction this morning.

:09:29. > :09:31.The closure caused long tailbacks between the Colwyn Bay and the Conwy

:09:32. > :09:36.tunnels with drivers urged to take a 35-mile diversion through Snowdonia.

:09:37. > :09:47.The police are appealing for witnesses.

:09:48. > :09:49.Ten members of Wrexham council's Labour group, including the leader,

:09:50. > :09:51.have resigned from the party today blaming negative

:09:52. > :09:55.The row follows months of disagreement over a number

:09:56. > :10:01.of issues and comes a week after Councillor Malcolm King was

:10:02. > :10:02.sacked after raising concerns about child protection services.

:10:03. > :10:04.Matthew Richards is at the council's headquarters.

:10:05. > :10:18.Lucy, this row had been brewing for some time. Things have now come to a

:10:19. > :10:24.head with ten of the 23 Labour group resigning. The council leader says

:10:25. > :10:27.the reason is interference and criticism from what he said were

:10:28. > :10:35.elected and unelected members of the Labour group. He was referring to

:10:36. > :10:38.members of the group and advisers. This criticism was over the decision

:10:39. > :10:42.to close a leisure centre in Wrexham, which may or may not be

:10:43. > :10:50.handed over to a community group to run later in the year. There was

:10:51. > :10:56.also the sacking of a counsellor. Neurologists says he felt he had no

:10:57. > :11:01.option because of -- Councillor Neil Rogers says he felt he had no option

:11:02. > :11:06.but he had to make this regrettable decision along with his colleagues

:11:07. > :11:09.after 40 years in the Labour Party. My colleagues and I have come to the

:11:10. > :11:16.end of our time with these people. There is negative interference

:11:17. > :11:20.because I cannot continue in this mode. We want what is best for the

:11:21. > :11:22.people of Wrexham, not for individuals to have their own

:11:23. > :11:26.agenda. Where does this leave the running of

:11:27. > :11:29.the council now? The deputy leader of the council

:11:30. > :11:33.said to me today this could not have come at a worse time because the

:11:34. > :11:37.council is trying to work out how to finalise its budget and it has to

:11:38. > :11:42.make ?50 million of cuts this year alone. Decisions are due shortly,

:11:43. > :11:47.including the leisure centre decision. This means there is no

:11:48. > :11:53.overall control of the council so there will be lots of discussions

:11:54. > :11:57.behind closed doors between independent councillors and other

:11:58. > :12:04.parties to decide whether they will accept membership from these ten

:12:05. > :12:08.ex-Labour politicians. They say services will continue to be run as

:12:09. > :12:12.normal but a lot of opposition politicians and their Welsh

:12:13. > :12:17.government has said that is one thing the people of Wrexham must not

:12:18. > :12:21.be let down by this distracting set of circumstances.

:12:22. > :12:26.Schoolchildren write their hopes for the future for world leaders

:12:27. > :12:29.And braced for some top class stunts.

:12:30. > :12:31.Some of the best BMX riders in the world in Powys

:12:32. > :12:51.Welsh ambulance workers have voted in principle for industrial action.

:12:52. > :12:55.The union asked its members if they would be willing to take action if a

:12:56. > :12:58.formal vote was called. Our health correspondent joins me now. What

:12:59. > :13:03.does this mean? It has now confirmed a short time

:13:04. > :13:08.ago that one of four unions that represent its workers has informed

:13:09. > :13:12.them this afternoon that following a ballot of the members, they have

:13:13. > :13:18.passed a vote of no-confidence in how the Ambulance Service is run and

:13:19. > :13:21.they will proceed in principle to formal industrial action, should

:13:22. > :13:25.there be another vote. That doesn't mean there will be a strike. They

:13:26. > :13:32.will need to be another vote before we go down that road. This really

:13:33. > :13:36.does illustrate the disquiet in the amylin service at the moment. The

:13:37. > :13:41.service that hasn't met its most urgent targets for most of the past

:13:42. > :13:44.two years. Unions have been complaining about high pressure on

:13:45. > :13:48.staff and lack of resources, even though last week the Welsh

:13:49. > :13:52.government announced ?4 million worth of extra investment in new

:13:53. > :14:01.equipment. The Conservatives say this vote is a damning indictment of

:14:02. > :14:04.Welsh Labour's record. What it does show is the strength of disquiet

:14:05. > :14:08.within that service. The Ambulance Service says it is disappointed,

:14:09. > :14:10.giving it is trying to make improvements.

:14:11. > :14:12.A nursery in Aberdare has been forced to close

:14:13. > :14:14.its doors while social services investigate what they call

:14:15. > :14:21.The Stay and Play Nursery, which looks after more than 30

:14:22. > :14:24.children under five, has had its registration suspended by The Care

:14:25. > :14:30.They carried out an inspection of the nursery

:14:31. > :14:34.following an anonymous complaint about leadership and management.

:14:35. > :14:37.There's been a rise in the number of deaths involving c.difficile

:14:38. > :14:39.in Wales for the first time in five years.

:14:40. > :14:42.New figures show that last year the infection was mentioned on the

:14:43. > :14:47.death certificates of 177 people across Wales, 22 more than in 2012.

:14:48. > :14:50.The Welsh Government says it's disappointed with the increase, and

:14:51. > :14:57.has a zero tolerance approach to all healthcare associated infections.

:14:58. > :14:59.The search for the missing boy Isaac Nash is continuing

:15:00. > :15:05.The 12 year old from Huddersfield was swept out to sea on Friday,

:15:06. > :15:10.while on holiday with his family at Aberffraw.

:15:11. > :15:11.Today's operation has involved the police helicopter

:15:12. > :15:18.The first theatre performance at Bangor's new Pontio arts centre,

:15:19. > :15:21.which was due to happen later this month, has been postponed.

:15:22. > :15:23.Organisers say construction work on the ?45 million project is

:15:24. > :15:28.It's hoped a sell out opening gala featuring the opera star Bryn Terfel

:15:29. > :15:47.Part of the building we were due to receive today was not ready so we do

:15:48. > :15:52.not have possession of... We have always decided that we are going to

:15:53. > :15:55.open the building in phases. Phase one contains the theatre and

:15:56. > :15:59.associated spaces but that is not ready and we cannot take possession

:16:00. > :16:04.of it this week therefore we have no other choice.

:16:05. > :16:07.Let's return to the NATO Summit now, and there have been months

:16:08. > :16:11.of preparations for the summit, and not just security.

:16:12. > :16:20.General dynamics has received a big contract. The Prime Minister visited

:16:21. > :16:26.the site. The largest single order placed by the MoD for armoured

:16:27. > :16:30.vehicles in more than 30 years. Our correspondent spoke to the Prime

:16:31. > :16:33.Minister before the NATO summit and began by asking how he was enjoying

:16:34. > :16:38.his visit after criticising Wales in the Commons.

:16:39. > :16:43.I never criticise Wales. I love Wales. I think Wales is a fantastic

:16:44. > :16:47.part of the UK. I do criticise the Welsh Labour assembly government for

:16:48. > :16:52.some of the decisions they have taken. I think specifically on

:16:53. > :16:57.health. I think they made a mistake, deciding to cut the NHS. In England

:16:58. > :17:01.we decided to keep spending on the NHS. I think that was a mistake.

:17:02. > :17:07.They haven't met their cancer targets since 2008 and there

:17:08. > :17:13.accident and emergency target since 2009. Attacking the Labour

:17:14. > :17:17.government in Cardiff when they make a mistake within my realm of

:17:18. > :17:23.responsibility, just as the Labour government in Wales attacks me. I

:17:24. > :17:25.want to ask you about Scotland. I appreciate you are probably not

:17:26. > :17:30.thinking about devolution in Wales at the moment but the polls are

:17:31. > :17:34.suggesting it is going to be very tight in Scotland. I wanted to get a

:17:35. > :17:41.sense from you about how you think Wales will fit in to devolution in

:17:42. > :17:45.future and whether it is automatically going to be more

:17:46. > :17:50.powers being devolved? We are a family of nations and I have always

:17:51. > :17:54.believed our family is strong because we choose to stay together

:17:55. > :17:58.which is why when Scotland had a National party government and wanted

:17:59. > :18:03.a referendum, I said you must have a legal and fair referendum.

:18:04. > :18:07.I don't think that evolution has to proceed at the same pace in every

:18:08. > :18:15.part of the UK. With Wales when there has been a demand for extra

:18:16. > :18:20.powers, I have granted that referendum. The last time we spoke

:18:21. > :18:24.with in very different circumstances. We spoke about the

:18:25. > :18:26.structure investment and use of the UK Government was funding the

:18:27. > :18:36.publication of the South Wales valleys rail network. --

:18:37. > :18:41.electrification of the South Wales valleys rail network.

:18:42. > :18:44.Are you close to a deal? What I said is that there was a set of

:18:45. > :18:49.agreements that linked together the funding of the electrification of

:18:50. > :18:54.the main line into Wales and the Valley line as well. They are the

:18:55. > :18:59.responsibility of the Welsh assembly government but I am sure an

:19:00. > :19:03.agreement will be reached. We are doing our bit in Westminster and the

:19:04. > :19:09.Welsh government needs to do its bit in Cardiff. Then this work can take

:19:10. > :19:11.place. That was our political editor

:19:12. > :19:14.speaking to David Cameron a little bit earlier.

:19:15. > :19:17.From the chef preparing the food for world leaders, to the craftsman

:19:18. > :19:23.The fruits of their labours are about to be seen and tasted.

:19:24. > :19:30.Paul Rathkey's run this bespoke furniture company near Cowbridge for

:19:31. > :19:33.years but then a couple of months ago, the phone rang asking him to

:19:34. > :19:38.His company near Cowbridge has built the table around which the NATO

:19:39. > :19:42.The workers here have spent weeks getting every one

:19:43. > :19:45.of its 50 pieces ready, before transporting the table to

:19:46. > :19:57.We have had a few problems in far as making sure the table all goes

:19:58. > :20:01.together and making sure it is all right. It is a big table to

:20:02. > :20:08.assemble, 25 metres by 15. Everything has to be perfect and if

:20:09. > :20:13.we are 8mm out, it will chuck all the sections of the table out. It is

:20:14. > :20:15.quite critical we make sure everything is perfectly matched and

:20:16. > :20:19.everything is finished. For celebrity chef Stephen Terry,

:20:20. > :20:21.running a kitchen under pressure is But tomorrow night the stress levels

:20:22. > :20:25.will probably be higher than usual. He'll be in charge

:20:26. > :20:28.of preparing the dinner for the NATO leaders at Cardiff Castle and

:20:29. > :20:39.everything will have to be perfect. I am doing the blue ribbon event and

:20:40. > :20:49.cooking for the main world leaders. A dinner for 35 or 40 people with

:20:50. > :20:50.Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande, President Obama and associated

:20:51. > :20:53.people. Tomorrow morning, some of these

:20:54. > :20:55.children from Mount pleasant primary in Newport may be lucky

:20:56. > :20:58.enough to meet President Obama. In the meantime they've been busy

:20:59. > :21:01.writing postcards to him and the other NATO leaders telling them

:21:02. > :21:04.how they'd like the world to be. This morning they joined pupils

:21:05. > :21:15.from other parts of Wales to show What does it say?

:21:16. > :21:21.When I'm growing up I hope people will not waste money and make sure

:21:22. > :21:23.there is food and water for children across the world.

:21:24. > :21:28.When I grow up I want all children to be able to go to school because

:21:29. > :21:33.everyone should have equal rights and even if they are a boy or a

:21:34. > :21:38.girl, black or white. Do you feel the excitement of the

:21:39. > :21:44.NATO summit? They be not the excitement of it. --

:21:45. > :21:48.maybe not. If you have seen the pictures and you have got relatives

:21:49. > :21:52.or friends in Cardiff and they are telling you about the police and the

:21:53. > :21:58.fencing and all of the media going around, you do get a little bit of a

:21:59. > :22:02.case for it but maybe not so much as being in the middle of it.

:22:03. > :22:03.Smaller versions of the children's postcards will be

:22:04. > :22:07.put on the table next to each world leader for them to read at the main
