:00:40. > :00:44.It follows a BBC Wales investigation into allegations of fraud -
:00:45. > :00:46.at the campus of the West London Vocational Training College.
:00:47. > :00:48.Week in Week Out has been investigating
:00:49. > :00:50.alleged irregularities in the way students have been recruited
:00:51. > :01:05.Earlier I spoke to the programme's presenter, Tim Rogers.
:01:06. > :01:16.This is a newly opened, privately run college in Cardis, which has
:01:17. > :01:21.quarters in Wembley in London. -- in Cardis. The Cardiff branch runs
:01:22. > :01:25.various IT courses and business courses and is suitable to run
:01:26. > :01:31.certain types of courses which attract tuition fees of ?6,000 or
:01:32. > :01:37.students, which is funded by the Welsh government. The students on
:01:38. > :01:42.this courses can apply for loans and grants. Our programme has been
:01:43. > :01:47.investigating some of the offers made by the recruiter to students,
:01:48. > :01:52.and and he has told them that they can use fake documents to get onto
:01:53. > :01:58.the course and access those loans and grants, and they don't actually
:01:59. > :02:04.have to attend to get the money. He also says if they do not go on to
:02:05. > :02:11.earn over ?21,000, they will not have to repay the money. And of
:02:12. > :02:15.course, that is true. What has been the response? The College denied any
:02:16. > :02:20.knowledge of the scam, and says that all of its students are genuine. We
:02:21. > :02:25.contacted the Welsh government with our concerns. We have been pressing
:02:26. > :02:31.the minister Hugh Lewes to give us an interview, and he has refused.
:02:32. > :02:34.This afternoon, a statement came from Welsh government, saying that
:02:35. > :02:40.they had some concerns about the college, although I am not clear
:02:41. > :02:44.that they understand the full evidence that we have available, and
:02:45. > :02:48.he has asked the student finance Wales to suspend all payments to the
:02:49. > :02:51.college and its students well further investigations continue. --

:03:41. > :03:42.have had to close suddenly on 16 separate occasions
:03:43. > :03:45.in just 12 months. BBC Wales understands that
:03:46. > :03:51.a shortage of maternity doctors has meant all three units in
:03:52. > :04:01.the region - at Bangor, Bodelwyddan and Wrexham - have been unable, on
:04:02. > :04:04.occasions, to admit patients safely. Our Health Correspondent,
:04:05. > :04:07.Owain Clarke, reports. Few things can be more important
:04:08. > :04:09.than the moment a woman becomes Hannah Lloyd is waiting patiently at
:04:10. > :04:14.Wrexham's maternity ward, because She has been
:04:15. > :04:26.a frequent visitor here. It has been busy but the staff

:05:01. > :05:03.run as it is in emergency mode. She blames a shortage of doctors,
:05:04. > :05:08.and despite several recruitment drives, 14 out
:05:09. > :05:10.of 30 middle grade maternity doctors It means
:05:11. > :05:28.lots of temporary doctors have had to be brought in to fill the
:05:29. > :05:30.gaps. A middle grade locum doctor who had
:05:31. > :05:38.worked with us previously was booked to work a night shift in one of our

:05:43. > :05:44.has a preferred solution in the short term, to move maternity
:05:45. > :05:47.doctors from different teams. But then there would only be
:05:48. > :05:49.a midwife unit High-risk mothers would
:05:50. > :05:55.have to travel Campaigners have long argued that
:05:56. > :06:03.those mothers could be put at risk. When pregnancy and labour go wrong,
:06:04. > :06:10.it goes wrong pretty quickly, and sometimes, the need to do a
:06:11. > :06:20.cesarean section can be immediate. If that happens, there will be anger
:06:21. > :06:22.and disappointment, but bosses argue the risk
:06:23. > :06:25.of doing nothing is much higher. The challenge for them is to
:06:26. > :06:27.convince mothers of that. This woman's daughter was born
:06:28. > :06:29.after an emergency operation. The reassurance that someone is
:06:30. > :06:36.there at the end of the line to help, to talk, and they
