:00:00. > :00:00.Tonight, reaction from Westminster as Welsh MPs play their part

:00:07. > :00:10.in the vote on whether to begin air strikes in Syria.

:00:11. > :00:13.And police look into allegations of fraud at this private college

:00:14. > :00:39.in Cardiff, following a BBC Wales investigation.

:00:40. > :00:42.MPs have voted for the UK to launch air strikes on so-called

:00:43. > :00:47.Among Welsh MPs, the vote was close, with around half intending to vote

:00:48. > :00:49.In a moment, we'll get the latest from

:00:50. > :00:51.our Parliamentary Correspondent, David Cornock, in Westminster.

:00:52. > :00:54.But first, a look at some of the arguments heard in the House

:00:55. > :01:09.Britain should not be standing by while our strongest ally, United

:01:10. > :01:12.States, and France, which has itself suffered so grievously and

:01:13. > :01:17.recently, bed and way too slow to rid the world of this pernicious and

:01:18. > :01:20.evil organisation. We are presented this afternoon, we have been

:01:21. > :01:24.presented many times with a false choice, false dichotomy. We have

:01:25. > :01:29.been told we should bomb or do nothing, while we can bomb or we can

:01:30. > :01:35.do something, things which are in my view reasonable, proportionate and

:01:36. > :01:40.effective. I believe that it is flawed on the grounds that we do not

:01:41. > :01:45.have sufficient ground forces. I do not come to that decision lightly. I

:01:46. > :01:48.listened to the debate when we were debating Iraq and I supported action

:01:49. > :01:52.them because the Prime Minister convinced us that the very reason we

:01:53. > :01:56.were taking that action was because there was solid troops on the

:01:57. > :02:02.ground, and a solid government. We do not have that in Syria. I have my

:02:03. > :02:06.doubts, I have my doubts on the ground troops, I have my doubts

:02:07. > :02:09.around the hopes being placed on the political process, in the failure of

:02:10. > :02:14.this government follow through on reconstruction in the past, but we

:02:15. > :02:18.cannot let perfection be the enemy and I have two consider the reasons

:02:19. > :02:21.I have outlined at the beginning my answer is no and that is why I will

:02:22. > :02:22.support the government in the tonight.

:02:23. > :02:25.David Cornock is in Westminster. David, do we know how Welsh MPs

:02:26. > :02:35.We are still waiting for the full breakdown of how individual MPs

:02:36. > :02:40.voted but it does look as if 21 of the 40 Welsh MPs voted against

:02:41. > :02:46.military action. I do know that a handful of Labour MPs from Wales did

:02:47. > :02:52.vote with the government tonight, in favour of extending air strikes over

:02:53. > :02:56.Syria. They included Susan Elan Jones and Stephen Doughty, who we

:02:57. > :03:00.heard from there. I had a conversation with him and he said

:03:01. > :03:05.that the result was the right one and that air strikes are just part

:03:06. > :03:08.of a wider package to deliver a more stable solution for Syria.

:03:09. > :03:16.Interesting to note that Wales's only Liberal Democrat MP actually

:03:17. > :03:21.voted against his party leadership, and against air strikes. We will

:03:22. > :03:23.have the full breakdown overnight. Thank you for that.

:03:24. > :03:26.The rest of the day's news now and it's been confirmed that police

:03:27. > :03:28.are looking into an alleged scam exposed by

:03:29. > :03:32.In last night's Week In Week Out programme, an undercover reporter,

:03:33. > :03:35.posing as a student, was offered a loan, based on

:03:36. > :03:38.a false qualification, to study at the Cardiff campus of

:03:39. > :03:43.West London Vocational and Training College.

:03:44. > :03:50.Our political editor, Nick Servini, has the latest.

:03:51. > :03:52.The West London Vocational and Training College.

:03:53. > :03:55.This year it opened a branch in Cardiff and now its Welsh

:03:56. > :03:57.government funding has been stopped, the police have called in,

:03:58. > :04:01.Last night BBC Wales's Week In Week Out programme revealed how

:04:02. > :04:05.this man was advising a man from its undercover team to fake

:04:06. > :04:08.a certificate to get onto an HND in business and, in the process, tap

:04:09. > :04:28.The principal also falsely claimed to have a PhD from Cambridge.

:04:29. > :04:32.He has now been removed from his position by the college.

:04:33. > :04:36.This afternoon the Education Minister confirmed

:04:37. > :04:41.I have just learned in the last hour or so that

:04:42. > :04:45.South Wales Police economic crime unit and the Welsh government's

:04:46. > :04:49.counter-fraud branch are now working together in investigating

:04:50. > :04:54.the allegations of fraud made in the BBC programme Week In Week Out.

:04:55. > :04:57.There are only a handful of private colleges in Wales, but the Welsh

:04:58. > :05:02.government funds hundreds of Welsh students who attend some of these

:05:03. > :05:06.colleges in England, where there has been a huge rise in recent years,

:05:07. > :05:10.and a big rise in the problems associated with them.

:05:11. > :05:14.Concern in Wales about them is not new either.

:05:15. > :05:18.Over a year ago a committee here at the Assembly warned

:05:19. > :05:25.The response from the Welsh government is to

:05:26. > :05:28.force private colleges from next year to have them register

:05:29. > :05:32.One member of the Assembly committee that first raised concerns says

:05:33. > :05:37.The reality of the situation in Wales is that we have incidences

:05:38. > :05:41.where we have ha issues with regard to proper governance

:05:42. > :05:44.of charities here in the same way that we have issues

:05:45. > :05:51.The allegations that have been made about this particular college.

:05:52. > :05:52.Police will now continue the investigation

:05:53. > :05:56.The college owner denies knowing of any wrongdoing in the recruitment

:05:57. > :06:05.The Newport headquarters of the Office for National Statistics

:06:06. > :06:08.should be turned into a hub of data expertise, according to an

:06:09. > :06:15.statistics are produced. But the report also suggested the quality of

:06:16. > :06:18.economic figures had been affected, when the ONS moved from London to

:06:19. > :06:24.Police are warning the number of people

:06:25. > :06:26.in Wales being blackmailed over the internet is growing rapidly.

:06:27. > :06:29.In the past month, nine people in North Wales have been threatened,

:06:30. > :06:32.that intimate pictures or videos of them would be posted online, unless

:06:33. > :06:41.One victim spoke to BBC Wales anonymously.

:06:42. > :06:49.Then I saw myself, and she said, "I'm going to put this on Facebook

:06:50. > :06:52."If I don't get ?6,000 from you, I'm going to go ahead

:06:53. > :06:56.In the last month, we've seen a growth now of nine instances

:06:57. > :07:04.The age range is between 14 and 65, so the age range is concerning.

:07:05. > :07:07.The Chief Executive of S4C has told BBC Wales that the Welsh language

:07:08. > :07:10.channel remains fully committed to plans for a new headquarters in

:07:11. > :07:13.Carmarthen, despite a ?1.7 million cut in its budget.

:07:14. > :07:16.These are the first images of what it could look like.

:07:17. > :07:20.It's hoped around 55 posts will move from Cardiff to Carmarthen,

:07:21. > :07:25.and Ian Jones says it'll be cheaper to run the channel from West Wales.

:07:28. > :07:31.Twickenham in May next year, a day after both the Pro 12

:07:36. > :07:39.Warren Gatland's side will also face Australia,

:07:40. > :07:44.Argentina and South Africa in Cardiff in the autumn.

:07:45. > :07:46.It's been pretty wet and miserable across the country.

:07:47. > :07:49.Tonight, there's two flood warnings and flood alerts in place here.

:07:50. > :07:58.Sue's here with the latest weather forecast.
