:01:06. > :01:11.Most of the patients had suffered strokes and as a result needed
:01:12. > :01:13.regular monitoring of their blood glucose.
:01:14. > :01:19.For a year, starting in February 2012, three nurses made
:01:20. > :01:24.Uncontrolled, the stroke patient's diabetes could have led to brain,
:01:25. > :01:35.Rebecca Jones, 31, was the most senior nurse involved.
:01:36. > :01:38.She arrived at court today knowing she faced a jail sentence
:01:39. > :01:40.for the wilful neglect of nine patients in her care.
:01:41. > :01:42.Her colleague, 46-year-old Bertulano admitted the wilful neglect
:01:43. > :01:47.I would like to apologise for what I have done.
:01:48. > :01:50.Natalie Jones had falsified the records of two patients.
:01:51. > :01:53.Lillian Williams was one of the patients affected.
:01:54. > :01:58.She was 82 when she died in November 2012.
:01:59. > :02:01.Seen here in happier times on a family holiday,
:02:02. > :02:03.she had been admitted to Bridgend in September of that year
:02:04. > :02:06.and her family were immediately critical of the care
:02:07. > :02:12.In total the three nurses based at this hospital made 81 false
:02:13. > :02:16.readings involving nine patients, which included Lillian Williams.
:02:17. > :02:19.On one day three consecutive tests of her blood glucose were false
:02:20. > :02:24.entries, meaning she went 26 hours between legitimate testing.
:02:25. > :02:27.Her family say their claims were met with incredulous silence.
:02:28. > :02:34.Her son said the nurses were too arrogant to care.
:02:35. > :02:41.Her daughter said she had suffered a travesty of neglect.
:02:42. > :02:44.To hear all of the witness statements today, from the relatives

:02:52. > :02:53.at the hands of these nurses, that's been devastating for us.
:02:54. > :02:56.The health board say a review they carried out once these issues
:02:57. > :03:00.came to light found no evidence that any patient had received actual harm
:03:01. > :03:02.but acknowledged some short-term discomfort.
:03:03. > :03:04.They apologised to the families for any distressed caused
:03:05. > :03:08.and confirmed that internal proceedings are going ahead with 12
:03:09. > :03:17.Now that the judicial process is over, we want to look into this
:03:18. > :03:19.in more detail and I am sure the police will cooperate with us
:03:20. > :03:23.in looking at the evidence they have gathered and we will do a much more
:03:24. > :03:26.in-depth review to make sure that we understand fully and in much
:03:27. > :03:31.If there are any lessons, we will make sure we learn them.
:03:32. > :03:34.In sentencing the nurses, the judge said this was a failure
:03:35. > :03:43.Speaking to Rebecca Jones, he said she may have been unhappy
:03:44. > :03:48.at work but to put patients at risk, that was not a rational response.
:03:49. > :03:50.He jailed her for eight months, with Lauro Bertulano receiving
