:00:42. > :00:44.That's the warning tonight from the industry's trade unions.

:00:45. > :00:52.It comes on the day MPs said the UK Government had failed to react

:00:53. > :00:57.quickly enough to the crisis in the industry.

:00:58. > :00:59.Wales' biggest steel employer, Tata, which employs 6,000 people here,

:01:07. > :01:09.Steel dominates the skyline in Port Talbot, as it does

:01:10. > :01:17.But workers know it is once again battling a number

:01:18. > :01:27.Now it is believed that Port Talbot alone is losing around

:01:28. > :01:31.Steel in the UK has struggled against higher energy costs

:01:32. > :01:37.Cheaper imports of steel from China and a high pound which makes UK

:01:38. > :01:39.steel expensive to export is dealing a heavy blow.

:01:40. > :01:45.My worry is, going forward, is we are in survival mode.

:01:46. > :01:47.I want to see iron and steelmaking continuing in the UK and I am sure

:01:48. > :01:50.that the majority of people in the UK would want to see that.

:01:51. > :01:56.Around 6000 people work for Tata in Wales.

:01:57. > :01:58.800 work at Shotton, where they make

:01:59. > :02:06.There are 700 each in Llanwern and Trostre in Llanelli,

:02:07. > :02:08.and another 300 work at the Orb electrical steel plant in Newport.

:02:09. > :02:10.Tata pays ?200 million per year in salary in Wales alone,

:02:11. > :02:16.even before we look at allied industries.

:02:17. > :02:19.Since the recession of 2008, there's been a lot of talk

:02:20. > :02:23.from politicians about rebalancing UK economy, not leaving us

:02:24. > :02:30.as dependent on the financial sector as we were.

:02:31. > :02:33.In other words, giving more power to people like this who make

:02:34. > :02:38.the steel that goes into so many other goods.

:02:39. > :02:39.Talk to people in this business, though and they say they have

:02:40. > :02:47.For ten years, they have been wanting help to reduce the cost

:02:48. > :02:49.Now, they've had a little bit in the last few months,

:02:50. > :02:54.Just as the real pain from cheap Chinese imports is really hitting.

:02:55. > :03:00.The Chinese economy is expected to further weaken next year.

:03:01. > :03:00.Any let-up in Chinese imports of steel looks unlikely.

:03:01. > :03:05.The UK government has acted this year to lessen the cost of energy.

:03:06. > :03:09.Today's report said it didn't act quickly enough or heed warnings

:03:10. > :03:14.about cheaper imports pushing out business for steel here.

:03:15. > :03:19.The UK Government said it is a limited in what it can do.

:03:57. > :03:57.A man from Pembroke Dock who raped two young girls and sexually
