0:00:12 > 0:00:14Good evening.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Four people have been arrested in connection with a fire

0:00:16 > 0:00:18at a primary school in Torfaen.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21The blaze broke out at Coed Eva school, in Cwmbran, on New Year's

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Day.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25A joint investigation by police and the fire service is continuing

0:00:25 > 0:00:27to try to establish the cause.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Carys Notley reports.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32Surveying the damage, one day on.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35The infant and nursery section of this primary school gutted

0:00:35 > 0:00:38in a blaze which broke out in the early hours of New Year's

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Day.

0:00:40 > 0:00:4410 fire crews battled for hours to bring the fire at Coed Eva school

0:00:44 > 0:00:46under control and stop it spreading to the junior building,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49also on the site.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Children, parents and teachers say they're devastated.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54These parents have set up a crowd funding page to help pay

0:00:54 > 0:01:01for new school supplies, already raising more than 2,000.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02I went to the school.

0:01:02 > 0:01:06That was the main reason that I wanted my children to go there.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09I've obviously got my eldest now, who's in Year 1, and my youngest,

0:01:09 > 0:01:10who's due to start in September.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13But it's the memories that come with it, it's not just a building,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15it's not just a school.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Just seeing the heartbreak in my daughter when I told her that she no

0:01:18 > 0:01:21longer has a school, knowing that all their work is gone.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23It's really important that we get these donations in because these

0:01:23 > 0:01:25children have lost everything, as you can see.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Myself, as a parent, I want to do everything that

0:01:28 > 0:01:32I possibly can for this school.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36The school will be closed on Monday and Tuesday when meetings will be

0:01:36 > 0:01:40held to try and establish when it can re-open.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42There are two major factors at the moment.

0:01:42 > 0:01:47One is, safeguarding of the site, which we are waiting to establish

0:01:47 > 0:01:50so that children can travel to and from school safely.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53The other one is, power on the main junior building.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56My intention is to have all our children under one roof

0:01:56 > 0:01:59and we're going to do as much as we can to establish that

0:01:59 > 0:02:02so that our children again can keep their circle of friends

0:02:02 > 0:02:04and keep the familiarity with their teachers.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07Four people have now been arrested and bailed as part of a joint

0:02:07 > 0:02:10criminal investigation by Gwent Police and South Wales Fire

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Service.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15As the police investigation into the cause of the fire

0:02:15 > 0:02:18continues, the focus here now shifts into getting this school up

0:02:18 > 0:02:20and running as soon as possible.

0:02:20 > 0:02:25Carys Notley, BBC Wales Today in Cwmbran.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Campaigners have criticised the increase in regulated rail

0:02:28 > 0:02:30tickets across Wales, England and Scotland by an average

0:02:30 > 0:02:33of 1.1% today.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36It's the smallest increase in six years, but critics say the quality

0:02:36 > 0:02:39of some services doesn't justify any rise.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42The Welsh Government says it recognises the importance

0:02:42 > 0:02:46of maintaining affordable rail fares and has restricted the permitted

0:02:46 > 0:02:50increase in fares on the Wales and Borders franchise.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52We don't think it's fair.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Passengers are being harmed in the wallet, too hard.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Prices in the real world are not going up.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02Inflation is virtually stagnant and yet, compared to oil prices

0:03:02 > 0:03:06as well, you know, the motorists are not experiencing a rise

0:03:06 > 0:03:10into fuel duty, yet rail passengers are and that's just not far.

0:03:10 > 0:03:14I think it's reasonable given that costs have gone up.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17I mean, the train companies who operate diesel trains

0:03:17 > 0:03:21in particular have done quite well in recent months

0:03:21 > 0:03:23as prices have fallen.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26So their fuel costs are down, but their wage costs are up

0:03:26 > 0:03:32and various other maintenance costs continue to go up.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35Football, and Swansea City were hoping to beat

0:03:35 > 0:03:39Manchester United for the fourth successive time

0:03:39 > 0:03:43in the Premier League, but they lost 2-1 at Old Trafford today.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46United captain, Wayne Rooney, scored the winning goal 13 minutes

0:03:46 > 0:03:48before the final whistle, ending their run of eight games

0:03:48 > 0:03:51without a win.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54I think the setup, we were comfortable with the shape

0:03:54 > 0:03:56of the diamond at the start of the game but, obviously,

0:03:56 > 0:03:59once you go a goal behind, then you've got to try

0:03:59 > 0:04:00and do things differently.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02Yeah, we put two wingers on.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04I thought Mo was excellent, Mo Barrow.

0:04:04 > 0:04:09As I say, we almost pinched a point at the end.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11Elsewhere, Cardiff City boosted their play-off hopes

0:04:11 > 0:04:13by beating Blackburn 1-0 to claim a first win in four

0:04:13 > 0:04:15Championship matches.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18They're now ninth in the table.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20Wrexham were beaten 3-2 away by Southport in the National League.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22But Newport County's game against Hartlepool was called off

0:04:22 > 0:04:27because of a waterlogged pitch.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30The Cardiff Devils play their first fixture of the year later at home

0:04:30 > 0:04:33against the Dundee Stars.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36The Devils finished 20-15 at the top of Ice Hockey's Elite League

0:04:36 > 0:04:39as they aim to be crowned Champions for the first time.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42The side are hoping for their fourth successive win tonight.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44A look at the weather forecast.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46It'll be wet and windy tomorrow morning, but brighter conditions

0:04:46 > 0:04:47and scattered showers will follow.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49It'll start to feel colder.

0:04:49 > 0:04:54Top temperature 11 Celsius.

0:04:54 > 0:04:55That's Wales Today.

0:04:55 > 0:04:56We're back tomorrow evening at 6.20pm.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02Goodbye.

0:05:05 > 0:05:05D
