:02:42. > :02:44.the builders who work for the people who are from here,

:02:45. > :02:51.This site uses as much energy as a city the size of Swansea

:02:52. > :02:55.The European Commission allowed the UK Government to bring

:02:56. > :02:58.in financial support to ease the burden of high

:02:59. > :03:01.energy users like Tata, but Welsh ministers say Westminster

:03:02. > :03:07.There are specific issues in Britain such as energy

:03:08. > :03:11.Now, the UK Government realised this last month.

:03:12. > :03:13.We have been lobbying them for four years and they said

:03:14. > :03:16.They need to show that they are doing it.

:03:17. > :03:19.Visiting a mosque in Yorkshire, the Prime Minister argued

:03:51. > :03:58.The company will be hoping these job losses, painful though they are,

:03:59. > :04:00.will be enough to satisfy Tata's Indian headquarters that this

:04:01. > :04:03.is a survival plan to secure Port Talbot's future.

:04:04. > :04:06.In the coming weeks, we will discover whether it

:04:13. > :04:17.The steelworks cast a huge shadow over houses for miles

:04:26. > :04:31.Vince Lewis and his family have a strong connection

:04:32. > :04:33.with Port Talbot steelworks that goes back

:04:34. > :04:39.My father worked in the plant, my grandfather, my uncle

:04:40. > :04:43.worked there, my brother is a crane driver there,

:04:44. > :04:48.my brother-in-law, my son is in the stores.

:04:49. > :04:50.Over the past few months, I've spent time

:04:51. > :04:54.with the family and job losses have always been in the back

:04:55. > :04:56.of their minds and it has had an effect on

:04:57. > :04:59.There are people with families, mortgages,

:05:00. > :05:01.children, who it will obviously have a much bigger impact on them

:05:02. > :05:08.A lot of people depend on the works for their

:05:09. > :05:11.livelihood and it is not only the direct people employed

:05:12. > :05:14.there but the many, many others outside of their who also need that

:05:15. > :05:20.Today, after clocking off from his shift, I caught up

:05:21. > :05:23.He gave me his reaction to the job cuts.

:05:24. > :05:25.It is really, really bad news, you know?

:05:26. > :05:28.It is a body blow to the local area and a

:05:29. > :05:32.body blow to the people and the plant.

:05:33. > :05:40.It will most effect the workforce, but it

:05:41. > :05:43.Despite not knowing exactly who will lose their jobs

:05:44. > :05:45.in the coming months, like the Lewis family,

:05:46. > :05:47.there is uncertainty in households around this town.

:05:48. > :05:50.The Sandfields estate was built in the 1950s to house steelworkers

:05:51. > :05:55.People here told me this latest round of job cuts is devastating.

:05:56. > :05:59.Well, I have a son and a daughter-in-law who are working

:06:00. > :06:02.We don't know what is happening yet, so just wait and see.

:06:03. > :06:08.It'll be like a ghost town if that shuts.

:06:09. > :06:10.There are a lot of people who still work down there,

:06:11. > :06:13.still four or 5000 down there but personally I think

:06:14. > :06:18.And of course, today's announcement doesn't just

:06:19. > :06:22.It will also have a knock-on effect on

:06:23. > :06:25.many local businesses, some of which are on this industrial

:06:26. > :06:29.From supplying vehicles and tools to filling empty stomachs

:06:30. > :06:32.at lunchtime, almost everyone has a connection.

:06:33. > :06:36.This hydraulics company believes such a significant number of cuts

:06:37. > :06:39.may well have an impact on them down the line.

:06:40. > :06:47.We supply the majority of contractors in there

:06:48. > :06:50.with the hydraulic head of the cases and fittings, workwear.

:06:51. > :06:53.And we are starting to see effects already, so we will wait and see

:06:54. > :06:55.what happens now in the next few months.

:06:56. > :06:57.Many have described it as the lifeblood of this community.

:06:58. > :07:02.of different families and a variety of local

:07:03. > :07:06.Looking ahead, it is hoped that those most affected will get

:07:07. > :07:12.the support they need at a very difficult time.

:07:13. > :07:15.Some of the day's other news now and BT is creating 100

:07:16. > :07:19.It's part of a move to take on one thousand new staff across the UK

:07:41. > :07:44.player Jonathon Robert Thomas who died following an incident

:07:45. > :07:53.Mr Shepherd was bailed to appear for trial in May.

:07:54. > :07:56.An outbreak of a sickness bug has led to the rescheduling of some

:07:57. > :07:57.planned surgery at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

:07:58. > :08:00.There are five confirmed cases of norovirus

:08:01. > :08:02.after several people were admitted with diarrhoea and vomiting

:08:03. > :08:06.One ward is affected, and admissions to three others

:08:07. > :08:08.have been suspended, to reduce the risk of

:08:09. > :08:14.Two reservoirs in Cardiff that have been the subject

:08:15. > :08:17.of a planning row for more than 15 years

:08:18. > :08:19.will once again be used to supply the city with water.

:08:20. > :08:23.A previous owner of Llanishen and Lisvane Reservoirs proposed

:08:24. > :08:26.controversial plans to build hundreds of homes on the site,

:08:27. > :08:31.Campaigners are now celebrating, after Welsh Water

:08:32. > :08:39.We've fought for 15 years to try and stop the developments and get

:08:40. > :08:44.We had three public enquiries and any number of High Court

:08:45. > :08:52.actions, so it has taken a lot of commitment from a lot of people.

:08:53. > :08:56.Football and with new head coach Francesco Guidolin

:08:57. > :08:59.watching from the stands, Swansea City climbed out

:09:00. > :09:01.of the Premier League relegation zone with a win

:09:02. > :09:04.The Italian will work alongside interim manager

:09:05. > :09:06.Alan Curtis but will have the final say on team selection.

:09:07. > :09:24.Ahead of kick off, and a dramatic entrance for the match helped by the

:09:25. > :09:28.Royal Marines. Swansea have been in freefall for recent months, winning

:09:29. > :09:32.just once will stop the arrival of the new head coach at the liberty

:09:33. > :09:37.stadium was more low-key. Francesco Guidolin, in grey, has managed in

:09:38. > :09:42.his home country of Italy and France. He watched from the

:09:43. > :09:46.director's box while for the final time this season, Alan Curtis took

:09:47. > :09:51.sole charge of the team. In the Italian will have final say over who

:09:52. > :10:01.blaze. He watched as the captain put his side ahead. This goal helped

:10:02. > :10:06.lift spirits. It was a nervy second half for the Swans after Neil Taylor

:10:07. > :10:14.failed to clear the ball properly, Watford game first. It was all too

:10:15. > :10:19.much for the new head coach. The pressure could have been eased late

:10:20. > :10:23.on, but the ball hit the post. At full-time, it was a result to savour

:10:24. > :10:27.for Alan Curtis. He will now hand over the reins to the new man

:10:28. > :10:31.Francesco Guidolin. I knew he was coming in and I knew he would be

:10:32. > :10:36.watching the game and I think that also may have acted as a spur to the

:10:37. > :10:40.players as well. There is nothing more of an incentive than a manager

:10:41. > :10:43.looking down at you. The players were fantastic. Not just in the way

:10:44. > :10:47.that the play but also the spirit they shall as well the game was not

:10:48. > :10:50.thrilling, but a first win since Boxing Day means that the Swans are

:10:51. > :10:51.out of the Premier League relegation zone.

:10:52. > :10:54.Newport County have been knocked-out of the FA Cup at the 3rd round stage

:10:55. > :10:56.after losing to Championship side Blackburn tonight.

:10:57. > :10:58.After falling behind, Mark Byrne equalised for the Welsh

:10:59. > :11:02.But Blackburn, who played most of the game with 10 men,

:11:03. > :11:04.after having a man sent-off, won the cup tie,

:11:05. > :11:14.The games we've got coming up, I didn't really want to play them,

:11:15. > :11:20.Because we have so many hard games and the league is my priority.

:11:21. > :11:23.Yes, it would have been fantastic to get through but at the end

:11:24. > :11:26.of the day, I said to the players, I am not too disappointed,

:11:27. > :11:29.If they play like that, there will be no problems.

:11:30. > :11:35.Let's see what the weather has in store.

:11:36. > :11:42.Well, we still have cold air with us but there is more chance of seeing

:11:43. > :11:45.the sunshine tomorrow, but it will be a cold and frosty start to the

:11:46. > :11:50.morning. We still have some coastal showers tonight along parts of the

:11:51. > :11:55.West, but the bulk of the country is dry. We could see some ice as well.

:11:56. > :12:00.We have a yellow Peter Weir warning in force. You will need to take care

:12:01. > :12:03.especially on untreated surfaces. Tomorrow, we see lighter winds and

:12:04. > :12:07.more in the way of sunshine and fewer showers compared with today as

:12:08. > :12:12.well. First thing tomorrow, it will be cold and frosty. You will need to

:12:13. > :12:15.take care if you're heading out on those untreated surfaces but there

:12:16. > :12:19.is more chance of seeing some sunshine. It is feeling bitterly

:12:20. > :12:23.cold in spite of the sunshine. For the rest of the British Isles, we

:12:24. > :12:27.have a lot of dry weather to look forward to. Showers for Northern

:12:28. > :12:30.Ireland and northern parts of Scotland. Cloud in the Midlands

:12:31. > :12:36.which could seep into North West Wales and parts of the South. The

:12:37. > :12:41.bulk of the country seeing something brighter than today. Winds are like

:12:42. > :12:45.but it will feel bitterly cold. Three Celsius to six of years. Then

:12:46. > :12:49.we going to a berry cold night and to meet the clear skies and light

:12:50. > :12:52.winds will see widespread frost forming into the early hours of

:12:53. > :12:56.Wednesday morning. Temperatures getting down to minus three Celsius.

:12:57. > :13:03.Minus four Celsius in the countryside. High pressure as the

:13:04. > :13:08.controlling our weather on Wednesday. It is another sunny day.

:13:09. > :13:11.Still feeling chilly. Those temperatures between two Celsius to

:13:12. > :13:16.five Celsius. The winds pick up as well and then Thursday will see more

:13:17. > :13:19.cloud with a front coming in. Some showers possible but temperatures

:13:20. > :13:24.That's Wales Today. time we get to the end of the week.

:13:25. > :13:33.From all of us on the programme, good night.
