:00:08. > :00:14.Tonight, Asylum seekers in Cardiff will no longer have to wear

:00:15. > :00:19.And a week after the announcement, new details emerge of the major job

:00:20. > :00:33.losses at Tata Steel in Port Talbot.

:00:34. > :00:42.It's been compared to the branding of animals tonight.

:00:43. > :00:43.Asylum seekers living in temporary housing

:00:44. > :00:47.to wear wristbands in order to receive their meals.

:00:48. > :00:49.It comes after some residents claimed it singled them out

:00:50. > :00:53.The company that runs Lynx House, on behalf of the Home Office says

:00:54. > :00:55.they'll find alternative ways of providing food.

:00:56. > :01:07.They were still wearing the controversial wristband this

:01:08. > :01:12.morning. Without them, they told me they might be refused food. Links

:01:13. > :01:17.house is one of the places asylum seekers are sent to live while their

:01:18. > :01:21.status is being processed. Because people here are not allowed to work

:01:22. > :01:30.or to claim benefits, they are dependent on meals provided here and

:01:31. > :01:35.paid for by the Home Office. If you go to the hotel without the band,

:01:36. > :01:39.you will not eat for the day. If the staff recognise you, they have to

:01:40. > :01:45.send you back to the hotel room to look for your label or wait until

:01:46. > :01:52.there is a modicum of food left for them to give it to you. This is how

:01:53. > :01:56.militant they were in terms of implementing these banners. Today,

:01:57. > :02:00.the Welsh refugee Council said they had raised the issue for months ago

:02:01. > :02:11.and nothing was done. I was very angry about it and I compared it

:02:12. > :02:18.with the situation where you brand sheep, to go to the market. The

:02:19. > :02:21.group which runs the house has now said the wristbands scheme will be

:02:22. > :02:26.scrapped and they are looking for an alternative way of providing

:02:27. > :02:29.support. David Davis, the Conservative MP for Monmouth, has

:02:30. > :02:34.likened wearing these bands to the ones he wears on holiday. Perfectly

:02:35. > :02:39.reasonable system that allowed them to obtain three square meals

:02:40. > :02:45.everyday and it was reasonable for them to be identified. I go on

:02:46. > :02:48.holiday every year to an all-inclusive resort in Hungary

:02:49. > :02:54.where you have to wear wristbands in order to get free meals. I don't

:02:55. > :02:59.feel dehumanised by it. I'm wearing my ID pass you're in Council of

:03:00. > :03:03.Europe. This woman works for a voluntary organisation. She says

:03:04. > :03:07.such treatment is dehumanising but the problems facing the people she

:03:08. > :03:13.works with here are much wider. It is one aspect of a very worrying

:03:14. > :03:19.trend of dehumanising asylum seekers. It is particularly a

:03:20. > :03:26.problem because asylum seekers have been excluded from mainstream

:03:27. > :03:29.society for so long. There have been so many stories scapegoating them

:03:30. > :03:36.for various problems in society and a lot of myths have grown up. The

:03:37. > :03:38.Home Office has issued a statement saying it expects the highest

:03:39. > :03:39.standards from its contractors at all times.

:03:40. > :03:43.BBC Wales has discovered Tata hopes to make ?300 million of savings

:03:44. > :03:48.as the company is currently unsustainable, part of the money

:03:49. > :03:51.will come from cutting up to 750 jobs at its Port Talbot steelworks.

:03:52. > :03:57.Here's our business correspondent, Brian Meechan.

:03:58. > :04:06.A week after this company announced job losses at two sites, more

:04:07. > :04:11.details have emerged from a leaked document. Almost 400 of those being

:04:12. > :04:16.made redundant will be white-collar workers, essentially office and

:04:17. > :04:20.professional services staff. Around 330 blue-collar workers will also

:04:21. > :04:26.lose their jobs from the operations and industrial side of the business.

:04:27. > :04:30.The company says it must improve its performance and reduce costs to

:04:31. > :04:35.survive and be able to contemplate future viability as a business. Up

:04:36. > :04:40.to ?110 million will be saved from the job losses and the mothballing

:04:41. > :04:45.of part of this site. Engineering will see the most redundancies with

:04:46. > :04:50.almost 40% of the department going. Its contractors are also having to

:04:51. > :04:54.lose staff as a result of the company's plans. Cheap imports from

:04:55. > :05:00.China and high energy costs have been blamed for their problems. The

:05:01. > :05:04.union wants the European Union to take action against Chinese steel.

:05:05. > :05:05.UKIP's governing body has again failed

:05:06. > :05:07.to approve the party's assembly election candidate selections.

:05:08. > :05:10.Several Welsh party activists say the party will be damaged if it

:05:11. > :05:12.picks candidates deemed to be from outside Wales,

:05:13. > :05:14.including former Conservative MP Neil Hamilton.

:05:15. > :05:17.A senior UKIP source has told BBC Wales

:05:18. > :05:19.the National Executive Committee is defying the Welsh leader

:05:20. > :05:24.Nathan Gill by refusing to ratify the selections.

:05:25. > :05:26.UKIP says it wants to ensure that the best

:05:27. > :05:34.A man from Cardiff accused of helping a teenager travel

:05:35. > :05:36.to Syria to fight with Islamic terrorists has told a court

:05:37. > :05:41.Kristen Brekah, who's 20-years-old, is accused, with two other men,

:05:42. > :05:46.of assisting Aseel Muthana in committing an act of terrorism.

:05:47. > :05:52.There have been calls for the immediate release

:05:53. > :05:56.of a review into child abuse in North Wales.

:05:57. > :06:01.It comes after MPs expressed their concerns over delays

:06:02. > :06:03.to the publication of the MacCure review,

:06:04. > :06:04.which looked into the Waterhouse Report.

:06:05. > :06:09.In December, the Home Office promised to publish the findings

:06:10. > :06:16.as soon as possible but there's still no indication of a date.

:06:17. > :06:24.I think it is important it is published because we need to have

:06:25. > :06:28.public trust in our institutions. We need to be clear about what went

:06:29. > :06:30.wrong in North Wales. We need to understand whether the Waterhouse

:06:31. > :06:33.Tribunal did its job properly. Business leaders have been hearing

:06:34. > :06:44.the proposals that it's hoped Local authority representatives

:06:45. > :06:49.will put the plans to the Treasury next month and they say business

:06:50. > :06:52.leaders will be involved in developing the detail of the bid

:06:53. > :06:54.- especially when looking at what skills and industries

:06:55. > :06:59.they need to focus on. We need to be clear with businesses

:07:00. > :07:03.where we are coming from, what skills training they need, what the

:07:04. > :07:07.future demands are going to be and then we need to make sure that we

:07:08. > :07:09.give delivery of the right skills and training to meet those needs.

:07:10. > :07:11.A public meeting has been held to discuss the future

:07:12. > :07:15.Cwmcarn forest drive, a seven mile scenic road,

:07:16. > :07:17.closed to cars in 2014, so thousands of trees could be

:07:18. > :07:22.Campaigners say they're frustrated at the lack of information

:07:23. > :07:27.about the site but the owner, Natural Resources Wales,

:07:28. > :07:33.says it needs ideas and support from the public to re-open it.

:07:34. > :07:36.Rugby and Wales will face Japan at the Principality Stadium in

:07:37. > :07:40.Japan beat Wales for the first time ever in Tokyo three years ago.

:07:41. > :07:42.Wales will also face Australia, Argentina and South Africa

:07:43. > :07:57.That storm in the States is heading our way but its not snow

:07:58. > :08:10.Wind and rain in the forecast. Strong to gale force winds. Dry for

:08:11. > :08:13.much of a country tonight. Overnight, rain will reach Anglesey

:08:14. > :08:20.by the end of the night. Colder than last night. Temperatures falling as

:08:21. > :08:26.low as five Celsius. There is a Met Office weather warning in force.

:08:27. > :08:31.There could be two to four inches of rain. A dry start for most of us

:08:32. > :08:36.tomorrow but it will not last. Rain will spill across the whole country

:08:37. > :08:40.in the morning. Strong to gale force winds. Across the rest of the UK,

:08:41. > :08:44.south-east England should get away with a dry and bright morning but

:08:45. > :08:47.wet and windy weather will spread eastwards during the day. Some heavy

:08:48. > :08:53.rain, especially on high ground in the north and West with strong to

:08:54. > :08:55.fight gale force winds. Should turn dry in Northern Ireland during the

:08:56. > :09:00.afternoon with such hours in Scotland. A high of 12 Celsius in

:09:01. > :09:04.Liverpool. In Wales tomorrow afternoon, wet and windy sums it up.

:09:05. > :09:09.Some heavy rain, especially on higher ground, the hills and

:09:10. > :09:12.mountains, accompanied by gale force winds. Expect some pork travelling

:09:13. > :09:18.conditions. Temperatures above average but it will not feel that

:09:19. > :09:21.mild. Further outbreaks of rain tomorrow night with heavy rain for

:09:22. > :09:24.the Snowdonia Mountains. The wind will ease for a time but

:09:25. > :09:30.strengthening again later in the night. That takes us into a very

:09:31. > :09:33.windy start on Wednesday. The risk of severe gales. The wind will ease

:09:34. > :09:38.during the day, killing dryer and brighter with one or two showers.

:09:39. > :09:42.Thursday will start dry, bright and Chile. Some sunshine. The weather

:09:43. > :09:47.remains very changeable. More wet and with the weather expected on

:09:48. > :09:49.Friday, clearing on Saturday. Good night.

:09:50. > :09:53.Thank you for watching, from all of us on the programme

:09:54. > :10:11.Since then, things have perked up. Oh, my God!

:10:12. > :10:14.Not so long ago, you just beat a rug for a good time.

:10:15. > :10:17.After this, we can do the other carpet in the lounge.
