:00:50. > :00:54.The 18-year-old's family had hoped officials would widen the scope
:00:55. > :00:58.But the coroner said he would explore the impact of any
:00:59. > :01:01.abuse against the soldier on her state of mind.

:01:15. > :01:17.She was one of four soldiers to die at
:01:18. > :01:23.Allegations of widespread bullying emerged.
:01:24. > :01:26.One of those allegations - Cheryl was forced into having sex
:01:27. > :01:30.with a senior colleague here before she died.
:01:31. > :01:33.Cheryl's family's search for answers has brought them here,
:01:34. > :01:37.to a courthouse in Surrey not far from Deepcut Barracks.
:01:38. > :01:41.Today's new inquest is only possible because
:01:42. > :01:43.their lawyer argued that Surrey Police should be forced
:01:44. > :01:47.to reveal more information about the investigation at the time.
:01:48. > :01:51.The coroner said today he would look at Cheryl's state of mind on the day
:01:52. > :02:00.she died, the Army's rules and regulations and allegations that
:02:01. > :02:03.that there might have been third-party involvement
:02:04. > :02:06.But he says he will stop short of looking
:02:07. > :02:09.at broader claims of sexual abuse and bullying at Deepcut Barracks
:02:10. > :02:13.The coroner will consider whether Cheryl had
:02:14. > :02:17.In 2002, the BBC reported allegations Cheryl was targeted
:02:18. > :02:23.There was many times she was crying, talking to her friends
:02:24. > :02:29.I was aware that a certain Sergeant took an extremely
:02:30. > :02:32.strong liking to Cheryl and made her life hell.
:02:33. > :02:35.The Army and the Armed Forces Minister at the time warned
:02:36. > :02:39.about accepting all the allegations as fact.
:02:40. > :02:45.I simply don't admit that there is a problem on the scale
:02:46. > :02:50.I fully accept that there are individual circumstances
:02:51. > :02:52.which are being investigated by the police.
:02:53. > :02:54.A very large number of soldiers and ex-soldiers
:02:55. > :02:58.But where people are making allegations, they must make them
:02:59. > :03:02.We would wish to hear them and to root out the causes,
:03:03. > :03:06.But there's already been a delay to proceedings here.
:03:07. > :03:09.Evidence won't start to be heard until Thursday.
:03:10. > :03:12.Surrey Police says it wants to see more detail in the expert reports
:03:13. > :03:16.that have been specially commissioned.
:03:17. > :03:19.A promise from the coroner today of a full, frank and fearless
:03:20. > :03:23.investigation, but with a focus on Cheryl's state of mind that day.
:03:24. > :03:27.Her father says this month long inquest is his best chance in
:03:28. > :03:33.I think the day will come soon after the inquest

:06:18. > :06:19.going forward, and we are comfortable with them all.
