:00:40. > :00:43.to Syria, to fight alongside his brother with so-called

:00:44. > :00:47.Islamic State, is behind bars tonight.

:00:48. > :00:50.Kristen Brekke, along with two other men, was accused of assisting

:00:51. > :00:53.Aseel Muthana in the preparation of an act of terrorism.

:00:54. > :00:55.Sentencing him to four and a half years, the Judge said Brek

:00:56. > :00:58.was "perhaps naive" and may have acted out of "misguided friendship".

:00:59. > :01:08.For almost a month, Kristen Brekke has been arriving at the Old Bailey

:01:09. > :01:10.each morning to hear the case against him and two others.

:01:11. > :01:12.Tonight, the young man from Grangetown is behind bars

:01:13. > :01:17.Along with Forhad Rahman and Adeel Ulhaq, they have been

:01:18. > :01:19.found guilty of helping this Cardiff teenager,

:01:20. > :01:25.Aseel Muthana, travel to Syria to fight jihad.

:01:26. > :01:27.A lot of people think it is just to put this flag

:01:28. > :01:31.Nasser Muthana, Aseel's older brother, was one of two infamous

:01:32. > :01:33.recruits to so-called IS who appeared in a propaganda

:01:34. > :01:39.video entitled 'There is no life without jihad'.

:01:40. > :01:41.Aseel was desperate to join him and fight

:01:42. > :01:46.Brekke was one of three men that helped him do just that.

:01:47. > :01:49.Brekke first met Aseel while they were working at this cafe

:01:50. > :01:52.in Grangetown, where they became friends.

:01:53. > :01:54.The Old Bailey heard Brekke helped him get and store

:01:55. > :01:58.a new passport as his parents had confiscated his original.

:01:59. > :02:01.They say he also bought and stored Army gear and boots for him.

:02:02. > :02:03.The other men provided him with money and expertise

:02:04. > :02:09.to fund his jihadi journey in February 2014.

:02:10. > :02:11.It was more than a year ago that Brekke, then 18,

:02:12. > :02:15.was arrested at his home in Grangetown by officers

:02:16. > :02:19.of the Wales Extremism and Counter-Terrorism Unit

:02:20. > :02:21.and charged with assisting in the preparation of

:02:22. > :02:25.At the time, his mother, who is Welsh, and his father,

:02:26. > :02:27.who is of Norwegian ancestry, confirmed their son had converted

:02:28. > :02:33.They said no one else in the family was a Muslim.

:02:34. > :02:36.This footage of him on a school trip at the age of ten shows a happy,

:02:37. > :02:41.contented young lad who is very patriotic.

:02:42. > :02:44.He took his declaration of faith at this small mosque just a few

:02:45. > :02:46.streets from his home which is renowned for

:02:47. > :02:50.We taught him so we knew him for quite a while.

:02:51. > :02:54.I think since the age of 15 and now he is at the age of 19.

:02:55. > :03:17.So we have not seen any extremism in him.

:03:18. > :03:27.They fantasise that what labour Lord was not Cardiff but Serie A, and two

:03:28. > :03:29.months later that was a reality. The strategy that...

:03:30. > :03:31.The Prevent strategy is the Home Office funded scheme

:03:32. > :03:34.Aseel Muthana was being monitored by Prevent unsuccessfully.

:03:35. > :03:38.His father says the system failed his family.

:03:39. > :03:40.I don't think that trust has always been there.

:03:41. > :03:43.I am not sure if in this case this was the particular reason.

:03:44. > :03:45.Certainly, a stronger degree of trust and communication

:03:46. > :03:47.across-the-board would mean there are less likely to be

:03:48. > :03:56.instances where things fall through gaps in the net.

:03:57. > :03:59.21,000 Muslims live in Cardiff, the vast majority law-abiding,

:04:00. > :04:01.but tonight, with another from their community behind bars,

:04:02. > :04:03.they are searching for answers about how to tackle those

:04:04. > :04:09.The army base, where a Welsh soldier was found dead,

:04:10. > :04:11.had a "highly sexualised" environment and some senior staff

:04:12. > :04:14.saw young female recruits as a "sexual challenge."

:04:15. > :04:18.18-year-old Private Cheryl James, from Llangollen, was found

:04:19. > :04:20.with a single gunshot wound to the head at Deepcut Barracks

:04:21. > :04:29.in 1995 amid claims of bullying and sexual assault.

:04:30. > :04:32.Tata Steel, who've announced heavy job losses at their Port Talbot

:04:33. > :04:34.steelworkers, say they're "deeply concerned" that Europe could be

:04:35. > :04:37."sleepwalking" into an even deeper steel crisis and there's no

:04:38. > :04:39.guarantee the industry will avoid further job losses.

:04:40. > :04:42.Managers from the company have been giving evidence to MPs

:04:43. > :04:45.at Westminster, after 750 people lost their jobs in Port Talbot last

:04:46. > :04:55.There are serious questions tonight over the future

:04:56. > :04:58.The UK government has announced an independent review

:04:59. > :05:01.of Tidal Lagoon Energy saying - more work needs to be done

:05:02. > :05:03.to determine whether it presents value for money.

:05:04. > :05:06.The Welsh Government says it's disappointed by the decision -

:05:07. > :05:08.and the company behind the project says it's concerned

:05:09. > :05:20.It can be a long walk to the sea when the tide goes out

:05:21. > :05:23.in Swansea Bay but maybe not as long as the possible wait for a decision

:05:24. > :05:28.As the UK Government announced an independent review

:05:29. > :05:31.of the feasibility and practicality of this kind of energy,

:05:32. > :05:34.others see the news as a delaying tactic over a final decision.

:05:35. > :05:37.I am disappointed for the people of Swansea East because they are

:05:38. > :05:44.I am disappointed for the people of Wales because this

:05:45. > :05:49.And I am disappointed they play these games

:05:50. > :05:55.The chief executive of tidal lagoon energy has warned the UK Government

:05:56. > :05:59.it must decide in the next few weeks whether or not it is going to invest

:06:00. > :06:06.Building work has been delayed because every time they come

:06:07. > :06:08.to discuss how much public money will be put forward,

:06:09. > :06:13.Responding to the forthcoming review, the Chief Executive of tidal

:06:14. > :06:16.lagoon energy said in a statement, we welcome the opportunity to put

:06:17. > :06:22.the case for a major programme of cost-effective power.

:06:23. > :06:24.This is a home-grown source of power, the natural way

:06:25. > :06:28.He said the review should not impact the finalisation

:06:29. > :06:34.The Department for Energy and Climate Change says

:06:35. > :06:37.the developers will take part in the review while discussions

:06:38. > :06:44.While that might be the case, businesses in the local area are now

:06:45. > :06:46.concerned about the time and money they have already invested

:06:47. > :06:55.The delay now places great uncertainty and there are not many

:06:56. > :06:58.new opportunities in Port Talbot, Swansea Bay of the type that can

:06:59. > :07:01.employ people to the extent that the tidal lagoon can.

:07:02. > :07:02.From that point of view, a great disappointment.

:07:03. > :07:05.We have been working very hard for over two years.

:07:06. > :07:07.And as an industry group, supporting tidal lagoon,

:07:08. > :07:12.our expenditure has run into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

:07:13. > :07:19.While the debate over tidal lagoon energy continues to ebb and flow,

:07:20. > :07:23.it is hoped this delay does not signal the end

:07:24. > :07:34.Work to repair a burst water main supplying around 1,700 households

:07:35. > :07:36.across parts of Carmarthenshire has been completed.

:07:37. > :07:39.Welsh Water began carrying out repair work last night and say

:07:40. > :07:47.supplies to customers affected are now being restored.

:07:48. > :07:48.Football, and Wales' European Championship bound squad

:07:49. > :07:51.will fly to Stockholm to face Sweden on the 5th of June.

:07:52. > :07:58.It will be the final friendly match ahead of the tournament in France.

:07:59. > :08:00.The chance of snow for some this weekend -

:08:45. > :08:49.slowly left, one to icy patches in the North Midlands and the Peak

:08:50. > :08:53.District and showers in the West. Elsewhere pride with some sunshine.

:08:54. > :08:59.Closer to home sunshine in places but generally more cloud than today.

:09:00. > :09:04.Showers moving inland and they could be quite sharp, when today on high

:09:05. > :09:10.grounds, a high of seven Celsius. Most of the country dry tomorrow

:09:11. > :09:16.night and will be cloud remains broken a chance of frost and fog

:09:17. > :09:19.patches. Into Friday, most of the country dry with some chain breaking
