:00:44. > :00:47.The Drive programme focuses on the perpetrators,

:00:48. > :00:49.not the victims, of domestic violence and is being trialled

:00:50. > :00:52.in Merthyr Tydfil, and could be introduced across the UK.

:00:53. > :00:58.Rachel Williams from Newport suffered

:00:59. > :01:07.He then hanged himself in a nearby forest.

:01:08. > :01:12.Her son was found dead in the same spot six weeks later.

:01:13. > :01:14.She believes men like her former husband need direct intervention

:01:15. > :01:24.Finally find the courage, filed for divorce and left him.

:01:25. > :01:27.And then, Friday the 19th of August, he came to my place of work

:01:28. > :01:32.He aimed at my chest and told me he loved me and pulled the trigger.

:01:33. > :01:35.If we don't deal with the perpetrators, they are just

:01:36. > :01:38.We need to try and change their mindset.

:01:39. > :01:41.Now a pilot, aimed at targeting the most dangerous offenders,

:01:42. > :01:49.a one-to-one scheme working with violent abusers who may

:01:50. > :01:56.This woman, who doesn't want to be identified, says her partner

:01:57. > :01:58.was violent towards her for 18 years.

:01:59. > :02:01.She managed to escape by pretending she needed to see a doctor.

:02:02. > :02:06.But she doesn't believe any degree of intervention would have

:02:07. > :02:11.convinced him what he was doing was wrong.

:02:12. > :02:18.These men, or even women - I know it can work both ways -

:02:19. > :02:21.they have a way of charming people, that they're actually doing

:02:22. > :02:23.what they say, but underneath, they never change, and

:02:24. > :02:29.And I don't understand how a one-to-one perpetrator programme

:02:30. > :02:32.would work with people that won't actually admit

:02:33. > :02:42.The charities behind this recognise they won't reach everyone,

:02:43. > :02:44.but feel this pilot programme offers one of the best chances

:02:45. > :02:53.Abusers identified by the authorities will have to cooperate.

:02:54. > :02:55.The sessions will deal with any drug or alcohol problems,

:02:56. > :03:02.But those who don't take part will be dealt with by

:03:03. > :03:07.The main domestic violence organisation in Wales welcomes

:03:08. > :03:13.the Drive programme, but doesn't want it to take money

:03:14. > :03:15.away from other services, like refuges, which they say

:03:16. > :03:18.are already facing an uncertain financial future.

:03:19. > :03:22.Perpetrator programmes are something we've been calling for for a long

:03:23. > :03:30.The concern is really that this is seen as part of the solution

:03:31. > :03:32.and doesn't take funding away from those vital survivor

:03:33. > :03:37.This woman leads this programme wouldn't have worked for her.

:03:38. > :03:39.But this pilot is aimed at intervening in the most extreme

:03:40. > :03:53.Unemployment here has fallen again, with the number of people out

:03:54. > :03:55.of work in Wales now standing at 80,000.

:03:56. > :03:56.That's down 12,000 from the previous quarter.

:03:57. > :03:58.However, the rate of unemployment in Wales,

:03:59. > :04:06.at 5.3%, is still higher than the UK rate of 5.1%.

:04:07. > :04:09.A 40-year-old Romanian man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison

:04:10. > :04:18.for raping a 20-year-old woman in Cardiff in September last year.

:04:19. > :04:20.Newport Crown Court heard Remus Hamza attacked the woman close

:04:21. > :04:23.to Cardiff University in the early hours of the morning.

:04:24. > :04:26.The jury took less than an hour to reach a guilty verdict.

:04:27. > :04:28.With just under three months to go until the Assembly elections,

:04:29. > :04:30.Plaid Cymru are first out of the blocks in

:04:31. > :04:40.Plaid's Leader, Leanne Wood, says she wants to concentrate

:04:41. > :04:42.on the NHS and says, after 17 years of Labour rule,

:04:43. > :04:44.it's time for a change. Here's Arwyn Jones.

:04:45. > :04:49.From Cardiff City's changing room, a call for change from Plaid Cymru.

:04:50. > :04:53.The party says its team of star strikers are ready to go on to form

:04:54. > :04:55.the next government and send Labour to the sub's bench.

:04:56. > :05:01.Its pitch will include 1000 more doctors and 5000 more nurses,

:05:02. > :05:08.There's also a promise on cancer diagnosis within 28 days,

:05:09. > :05:12.although the average time at the moment is only 22 days.

:05:13. > :05:13.On education, the party will introduce free preschool care

:05:14. > :05:20.Students will have to pay their full tuition fees, but debts will be

:05:21. > :05:22.written off if graduates return to work in Wales within five years

:05:23. > :05:30.We make no apology for attempting to address this problem,

:05:31. > :05:32.whereby some of the brightest students leave the country

:05:33. > :05:37.We want those to make a contribution back in this country.

:05:38. > :05:42.We want to see a return on their investment

:05:43. > :05:45.-- We want to see a return on our investment

:05:46. > :05:49.On the economy, Plaid says it will cut business rates

:05:50. > :05:51.and undertake what it calls the biggest investment

:05:52. > :05:54.since devolution on transport and home energy efficiency schemes.

:05:55. > :06:00.Over the last three Assembly elections, Plaid support

:06:01. > :06:02.has remained stubbornly static at best.

:06:03. > :06:06.And, with Ukip seemingly increasing its support according

:06:07. > :06:08.to opinion polls, it might make life difficult for Plaid

:06:09. > :06:13.If Labour is having a difficult year and losing some support,

:06:14. > :06:15.maybe in the past Plaid for many voters would've been

:06:16. > :06:22.But now, we have a new... a new party competing.

:06:23. > :06:25.So, strong words on the need for change here today.

:06:26. > :06:28.But how likely is it that she will be the First Minister

:06:29. > :06:33.Now, opinion polls suggest that Plaid Cymru will really struggle

:06:34. > :06:39.In the past, they have gone into coalition with Labour,

:06:40. > :06:42.but today has been all about the need to get rid

:06:43. > :06:45.Their leader, Leanne Wood, says she won't take the party

:06:46. > :06:47.into government with the Conservatives.

:06:48. > :06:50.So the path to power for Plaid Cymru, to enact all these
