:00:48. > :00:50.the staff here will get a pay rise when the new living

:00:51. > :00:56.That will take the minimum wage for workers aged 25 and over

:00:57. > :01:01.to ?7.20 an hour, 50p more than the current rate.

:01:02. > :01:06.I think it will be good because it will help towards the cost of living

:01:07. > :01:08.and I've got a mortgage so it will help me.

:01:09. > :01:12.That's for my kids and everything, for the future, it's

:01:13. > :01:14.all going in the right direction.

:01:15. > :01:19.Although 50p may not sound much, this company's wage bill is set

:01:20. > :01:24.to rise by ?20,000 a year according to the managing director.

:01:25. > :01:28.It's not just the ?7.20 it has gone up to.

:01:29. > :01:33.Obviously people who have responsibility and who are on that

:01:34. > :01:39.little bit more or more again, we've got to put it up pro rata.

:01:40. > :01:42.Whilst Collin says the company can cope for now, he believes future

:01:43. > :01:45.increases to the living wage could force the company

:01:46. > :01:52.Its businesses like this one where the work isn't perhaps

:01:53. > :01:56.particularly skilled that are likely to be most greatly affected

:01:57. > :01:59.by the introduction of a new living wage.

:02:00. > :02:03.Hospitality and retail are other sectors that could well

:02:04. > :02:08.The British Retail Consortium recently claimed nearly a million

:02:09. > :02:12.jobs could be lost across the UK as a result of the pressures

:02:13. > :02:15.on businesses, including the living wage.

:02:16. > :02:21.It is estimated 74,000 shops will close and Wales will be

:02:22. > :02:25.disproportionately affected compared to other parts of the UK.

:02:26. > :02:28.Our own reports are showing that there is a potential loss

:02:29. > :02:32.of over 900,000 jobs over the next decade across the UK,

:02:33. > :02:35.but our modelling has shown that it is likely to fall most

:02:36. > :02:37.heavily on areas like Wales where we possibly have a more

:02:38. > :02:43.We are seeing accelerated rates of shop closures in Wales,

:02:44. > :02:47.we're also seeing higher rates of footfall decline.

:02:48. > :02:52.The national minimum wage for those below 25 years old goes up

:02:53. > :02:55.in October and the UK Government wants to see the hourly living

:02:56. > :03:04.In response, the UK Government told us it created the living wage

:03:05. > :03:10.to enable low wage workers to share in economic growth.

:03:11. > :03:14.A union has said it won't speculate on the outcome of a Tata Steel board

:03:15. > :03:16.meeting later this month, where it's hoped a plan

:03:17. > :03:19.to save the Port Talbot plant will be approved.

:03:20. > :03:23.750 job losses were announced in January, as part of measures

:03:24. > :03:26.to protect thousands more jobs at the site.

:03:27. > :03:28.Reports in one Sunday newspaper raise concerns that the plan,

:03:29. > :03:32.which involves new investment, won't be backed by the board.

:03:33. > :03:38.Tata says it's invested significantly in its UK operations.

:03:39. > :03:41.For the first time, television cameras are to be allowed

:03:42. > :03:43.into certain crown courts in Wales and England.

:03:44. > :03:46.Cardiff Crown Court will be part of a three-month pilot scheme
