:00:11. > :00:15.Wales needs to rethink the help it offers to companies based here,

:00:16. > :00:19.in light of Tata's decision to sell its steel plants.

:00:20. > :00:22.That's according to members of Wales' main political parties,

:00:23. > :00:25.who have been giving their views on the future of the Welsh economy

:00:26. > :00:28.in the run-up to next month's Assembly elections.

:00:29. > :00:33.Here's our Political Correspondent, Arwyn Jones.

:00:34. > :00:35.Today, Sanjeev Gupta, the only prospective buyer to come

:00:36. > :00:39.forward to take on Tata's strip steel business, has said he is "not

:00:40. > :00:43.married" to a buyout - suggesting he could walk away

:00:44. > :00:45.from a potential deal, if the government fails

:00:46. > :00:50.to meet his terms on workers' pensions and energy costs.

:00:51. > :00:53.During a BBC Wales election debate this morning,

:00:54. > :00:55.all parties gave their support to the workers.

:01:00. > :01:05.review in the way business rates are funded and

:01:06. > :01:08.managed in terms of the use of state aid rules,

:01:09. > :01:11.they are limited in the amount that that can be intervened.

:01:12. > :01:26.In terms of procurement for Tata, EU procurement laws limit us to having

:01:27. > :01:29.-- procurement laws limit us from having a preference for Welsh

:01:30. > :01:31.companies. For others there is a role

:01:32. > :01:33.for the welsh government to help, not only in Tata,

:01:34. > :01:35.but elsewhere, too. We seem to be using the same

:01:36. > :01:38.strategy of the 1970s and 1980s where the government is giving up

:01:39. > :01:41.grant aid rather than working alongside companies, management and

:01:42. > :01:42.workforce together, to come up with a

:01:43. > :01:44.sustainable long-term strategy. As well as offering support

:01:45. > :01:47.for Tata, Labour says Government can also boost the economy by investing,

:01:48. > :01:49.like the last government's schools 21st-century schools, we have been

:01:50. > :01:52.investing almost ?2 billion And we've got to remember

:01:53. > :01:56.that what we've done is to use procurement as a tool

:01:57. > :01:59.to really build the companies The M4 relief road is another

:02:00. > :02:04.potential infrastructure boost But parties disagree

:02:05. > :02:08.on whether or not it's worth using the Welsh Government's

:02:09. > :02:10.entire billion pound I want to see us taking a slightly

:02:11. > :02:16.broader stance We ask ourselves not how can

:02:17. > :02:21.we build roads, we ask how can we make sure

:02:22. > :02:25.that people and goods can move around freely around our own area

:02:26. > :02:28.and into and out of other areas. There was also a consensus that

:02:29. > :02:30.smaller businesses And inward investment, looking

:02:31. > :02:41.after those that come in better and also marketing more

:02:42. > :02:45.effectively so that we can't draw in The issues around selling Tata Steel

:02:46. > :02:50.have dominated the headlines over the past days and weeks

:02:51. > :02:53.and dominated the Assembly The formal sale process

:02:54. > :03:00.will begin tomorrow. North Wales Police say

:03:01. > :03:03.they are becoming increasingly concerned about a 57-year-old woman

:03:19. > :03:22.it needs more detail before it can get behind a ?100 million takeover

:03:23. > :03:25.of the club. It's emerged that two

:03:26. > :03:28.American investors are in talks about a deal -

:03:29. > :03:31.as Nicola Smith reports. Yesterday's win over

:03:32. > :03:35.Chelsea was memorable. It effectively assured Swansea City

:03:36. > :03:38.are safe from relegation and as fans left the ground,

:03:39. > :03:42.it emerged a takeover that could change the club's fortunes

:03:43. > :03:46.for ever was on the cards. In a statement last night,

:03:47. > :03:48.the club confirmed it an agreement to bring

:04:02. > :04:03.on and off the field. The supporters' trust

:04:04. > :04:05.would maintain its stake, but told me they are not

:04:06. > :04:07.ready to commit. As 21% shareholders,

:04:08. > :04:10.obviously we've got sit down, go through everything,

:04:11. > :04:13.check we are happy prospective terms and everything

:04:41. > :04:43.more than ?5 billion, Finish bottom, you pocket

:04:44. > :04:53.at least ?99 million. It's a world away from when Swansea

:04:54. > :04:56.was fighting for survival and today, fans

:04:57. > :05:00.were cautiously optimistic. This time was going to come at some

:05:01. > :05:02.point and the board have showed us

:05:03. > :05:05.that they're looking and they've earned our trust

:05:06. > :05:09.in their decision-making over what I think we've gone as far as we can

:05:10. > :05:15.with the investment we have had So, yes, I think

:05:16. > :05:19.it's excellent news. The club is hoping an agreement can
