:00:00. > :00:00.Welcome to Wales Today - our top stories.

:00:00. > :00:11.The deaths of four people in a road accident

:00:12. > :00:13.in the Brecon Beacons - the inquest finds a deadly

:00:14. > :00:15.combination of factors were to blame.

:00:16. > :00:16.And politics is all about personality -

:00:17. > :00:19.according to Welsh Labour - as they launch their

:00:20. > :00:39.The deadly combination of an inexperienced driver -

:00:40. > :00:41.travelling at speed - and peer pressure -

:00:42. > :00:46.led to the deaths of four people in a road crash on the A470.

:00:47. > :00:48.The inquest heard 17 year old Rhodri Miller-Binding

:00:49. > :00:51.had only passed his test two days before his car was involved in

:00:52. > :00:56.a head on crash with another car - bringing a grandmother home

:00:57. > :01:03.The inquest was told the teenagers were travelling in a 9 car convoy -

:01:04. > :01:05.and had been texting photos of the speedometer.

:01:06. > :01:21.It was a crash which ended the lives of four people and ruined the lives

:01:22. > :01:29.of many more. Rhodri Miller-Binding had just passed his test. He lost

:01:30. > :01:33.control of his car. To tackle the unknown the rain of the victorious

:01:34. > :01:39.road which has claimed many lives, to all involved, was sheer lunacy.

:01:40. > :01:43.He passed his test only 48 hours prior, he didn't stand a chance. The

:01:44. > :01:46.speed at which they were travelling, the amount of weight in his car, the

:01:47. > :01:52.dark, the adrenaline, the peer pressure, his inexperience, all

:01:53. > :01:59.contributed to that fatal crash. The court heard how his car was 1 of 7

:02:00. > :02:07.vehicles in a convoy heading for Brecon. 1 witness told his partner

:02:08. > :02:10.they were boy racers. After the crash, police seized 28 mobile

:02:11. > :02:21.phones from those at the scene, and found messages about speed. 1 was

:02:22. > :02:28.recorded saying: but the coroner concluded he had not been breaking

:02:29. > :02:34.the speed limit. He said experience, peer pressure was a deadly

:02:35. > :02:37.combination -- inexperience. After the hearing, the families of the

:02:38. > :02:42.other teenagers who died paid tribute to them. It is almost

:02:43. > :02:46.impossible to put into words how devastating the loss of our

:02:47. > :02:50.devastating daughter has been fostered not a day goes by where the

:02:51. > :02:55.pain and sadness we feel, with nothing will ever be the same. Now

:02:56. > :02:58.the inquest has arrived, we can concentrate and grieve properly for

:02:59. > :03:04.our little angel. We would like to thank our family and friends. We can

:03:05. > :03:09.never be the same without our loving and most caring son and brother. Not

:03:10. > :03:17.a day goes by without us thinking of that tragic night. Heaven has gained

:03:18. > :03:20.the brightest star. Margaret Challis, was on her way home from

:03:21. > :03:25.the theatre, was no stranger to grief. She had lost a brother and

:03:26. > :03:29.sister in the Aberfan disaster but had gone on to rebuild life. Her

:03:30. > :03:34.son, 1 of her 6 children, said she would want to forgive. Today, 1

:03:35. > :03:45.important message for each family involved you're children are safe

:03:46. > :03:49.and at peace now, we are sure they will wrap their arms around them and

:03:50. > :03:54.continue to do so. Rhodri's mother wants the law around new driver

:03:55. > :03:57.strengthened to protect them. The coroner is recommending a sign be

:03:58. > :04:01.put up at the centre warn against the sweeping bend in the road.

:04:02. > :04:03.The UK business secretary has told MPs that -

:04:04. > :04:05.any potential UK government "co-investment" with a private buyer

:04:06. > :04:08.in Port Talbot steelworks could involve taking on some

:04:09. > :04:14.Sajid Javid told a three-hour emergency debate

:04:15. > :04:16.on the crisis that he's fighting for Britain's

:04:17. > :04:18.steelworkers "every hour of the day" to resolve the problems

:04:19. > :04:32.But Labour said the government's response had been "wanting".

:04:33. > :04:39.An investigation has been found after an inmate was found dead in

:04:40. > :04:47.his cell at Swansea prison. They will be an investigation by the

:04:48. > :04:50.independent ombudsman. A man has been found guilty of murdering a

:04:51. > :04:56.Cardiff father with a hammer. James Williams was with 3 friends when he

:04:57. > :04:57.chased his victim down the street in Grangetown. The 3 other men were

:04:58. > :05:00.cleared of murder. A memorial service has been held

:05:01. > :05:03.at Westminster Abbey to commemorate the British victims of last summer's

:05:04. > :05:06.terror attack on a beach in Tunisia. 30 British people were killed -

:05:07. > :05:09.including 52 year old Trudy Jones from Blackwood -

:05:10. > :05:11.when a gunman opened fire Her son, Gavin Davis,

:05:12. > :05:34.says his mother was killed She was innocent, along with

:05:35. > :05:41.everybody else on the beach. She went away on holiday and she hasn't

:05:42. > :05:43.come home. We all still struggling with it now, day-to-day, it's not

:05:44. > :05:45.getting any easier. At least that's the view

:05:46. > :05:49.of Welsh Labour - who launched their assembly election

:05:50. > :05:51.campaign with a focus on the leadership of their leader

:05:52. > :05:53.Carwyn Jones. The party says their strategy

:05:54. > :05:55.based around personality is a reflection of the age

:05:56. > :05:57.we live in. Our political editor Nick Servini

:05:58. > :06:13.was at the launch on Barry Island. Step forward Carwyn Jones. There are

:06:14. > :06:17.dozens of Labour candidates, but he is the 1 that really matters for

:06:18. > :06:21.them. They are supposed to be in the middle of a tough election but it

:06:22. > :06:26.was smiles all round in the sunshine of Barry Island for today's launch.

:06:27. > :06:31.We will have to wait next week for the party's detailed spending plans.

:06:32. > :06:35.In the meantime, this was all about Labour's intention to base much of

:06:36. > :06:41.their campaign on asking voters the simple question, who do you want as

:06:42. > :06:46.First Minister? It's all about personality and not policies, do you

:06:47. > :06:49.accept that? Partly, you can't get away from that. We saw that the

:06:50. > :06:55.general election, people in the last minute but, maybe David Cameron

:06:56. > :06:58.looks the part more than anybody else, changed their minds there and

:06:59. > :07:04.then say you can't get away from the fact that people get influenced by

:07:05. > :07:09.that. Behind-the-scenes Labour believe that invents in Westminster,

:07:10. > :07:15.particularly involving infighting within the Conservatives, criticism

:07:16. > :07:19.of the Tories, is playing well on the doorstep in their campaign. But

:07:20. > :07:23.there are still question marks over their campaigning strategy,

:07:24. > :07:28.particularly after they called it so badly wrong in the general election

:07:29. > :07:32.campaign last year. Janice Gregory is coordinating the efforts on the

:07:33. > :07:40.ground. This time round, she says they are alive to the threat from

:07:41. > :07:45.UKIP. If the "Lost us the Vale of Clwyd, the Gower constituency,

:07:46. > :07:49.people understand this is a different election, it's an election

:07:50. > :07:52.for Wales and we are telling people the danger of them voting UKIP in

:07:53. > :07:58.this election, it's a fight between us and the Tories. Calm today but it

:07:59. > :08:02.may not last long, as opponents tried to take the focus away from

:08:03. > :08:09.personality and onto Labour's record in power.

:08:10. > :08:12.The leader of UKIP in Wales, Nathan Gill, has admitted that

:08:13. > :08:14.he would never have chosen two of the party's most

:08:15. > :08:16.high-profile candidates to stand for the assembly.

:08:17. > :08:19.The selection of the former Conservative MPs Mark Reckless

:08:20. > :08:23.and Neil Hamilton has already proved controversial among

:08:24. > :08:30.party members in Wales. Here's Carys Notley.

:08:31. > :08:34.The Hamilton and Mark reckless happen at the heart of the bitter

:08:35. > :08:38.row among UKIP members in recent months. The accession was they were

:08:39. > :08:41.parachuted in as regional candidates. Local party members were

:08:42. > :08:46.later given a chance to vote on a list approved by the National

:08:47. > :08:51.executive committee but tensions clearly remain. Tonight on BBC

:08:52. > :08:55.Wales's debates, Nathan Gill was asked whether they have forced on

:08:56. > :09:00.the party in Wales. Would I have other people to come in over our

:09:01. > :09:06.hard-working Welsh membership? Probably not. But it wasn't my

:09:07. > :09:13.decision. And the members have given us these candidates... You would

:09:14. > :09:21.rather they want fair? Would I have chosen that? No. He later said the

:09:22. > :09:25.men would be an asset, with years of experience. On other matters, he

:09:26. > :09:31.claimed current problems facing the steel industry on low tariffs

:09:32. > :09:34.imposed by the EU on China. He said he would save nearly ?80,000,000 and

:09:35. > :09:39.he was in power in Cardiff Bay by scrapping policies on a change,

:09:40. > :09:46.which it claimed don't exist. The most expensive piece in Dili backrub

:09:47. > :09:51.legislation was Ed Miliband's climate change act which is

:09:52. > :10:01.basically pushed senior citizens, ... So we do nothing on climate

:10:02. > :10:06.change? No. He ended the debate with an honest assessment of his

:10:07. > :10:07.leadership, saying at times it had been like herding cats because of

:10:08. > :10:10.the fiery nature of the party. They say the best things

:10:11. > :10:12.in life are free - well many people in Laugharne

:10:13. > :10:15.would like to keep it that way - Visitors to the town have always

:10:16. > :10:19.enjoyed free parking on the Strand, but planning permission for 13

:10:20. > :10:22.new homes on the high street could A new scheme by Carmarthenshire

:10:23. > :10:26.Council to manage parking spaces and introduce charges has been met

:10:27. > :10:41.by fierce opposition. When people come now, they don't

:10:42. > :10:45.have to look at their wristwatch, the comeback not to have a 60 can't

:10:46. > :10:51.get on their car, leave it as it is, it works. There are ongoing costs,

:10:52. > :10:55.not the dogs come here to walk, would provide bags, they are being

:10:56. > :10:58.provided by the people here, I don't see why visitors shouldn't share

:10:59. > :11:00.that those as well. Wrexham have been dealt major blow

:11:01. > :11:04.to their national league play-off hopes - after losing 3-1

:11:05. > :11:06.to Guiseley. They are now 8th in the table,

:11:07. > :11:26.6 points adrift from the play-off A mixture of sunshine and April

:11:27. > :11:29.showers, some big showers in South Wales early this evening, hail and

:11:30. > :11:39.thunder in places and symptomatic lightning as well. -- some dramatic

:11:40. > :11:43.lightning. It's looking dry for most of us, clear spells, 1 or 2 mist and

:11:44. > :11:46.fog patches forming, maybe some showers in the south-west later in

:11:47. > :11:53.the night and quite cool, particularly in the countryside.

:11:54. > :11:56.Tomorrow morning much of the country is dry, mist and fog patches will

:11:57. > :12:06.lift, the best of the sunshine likely in mid and North Wales.

:12:07. > :12:10.Across the rest of the UK, and North - South divide, northern areas are

:12:11. > :12:14.cloudy with outbreaks of rain for Southern and eastern Scotland,

:12:15. > :12:20.further south, mist and fog patches will lift, some sunshine but also a

:12:21. > :12:25.scattering of showers, heavy and thundery in places, and a wide range

:12:26. > :12:33.in temperature. Much cooler in the North. Close to home, mixture of

:12:34. > :12:39.sunshine and scattered showers tomorrow afternoon, the showers, hit

:12:40. > :12:46.and miss. A lot of places will stay dry, and fairly warm. Showers will

:12:47. > :12:50.tend to fade away tomorrow evening, the odd 1 continuing overnight,

:12:51. > :12:58.otherwise many places, dry, not quite so chilly. Low pressure on our

:12:59. > :13:06.doorstep on Thursday, so some try, bright weather and sunshine wants

:13:07. > :13:11.again. They could be heavy showers as well. Some heavy rain potentially

:13:12. > :13:17.in places on Friday, hopefully a little sunshine, turning cooler over

:13:18. > :13:24.the weekend. Perhaps some snow over the hill and mountains.

:13:25. > :13:27.We are back tomorrow morning. Good night.
