:00:09. > :00:21.A 25% stake in Tata Steel. Beacons have been let to celebrate the

:00:22. > :00:35.Queen's 90th birthday. They're hoping to take over TATA

:00:36. > :00:38.Steel's plants here. Now, a Welsh consortium

:00:39. > :00:40.involving billionaire Sir Terry Matthews has

:00:41. > :00:43.welcomed news that the UK Government is prepared to consider

:00:44. > :00:47.taking a 25% stake in the business. The group which brings together

:00:48. > :00:49.people in the public and private sector in Wales,

:00:50. > :00:52.along with Steel managers and unions is adamant it can keep the blast

:00:53. > :00:57.furnaces making steel. Here's our Economics

:00:58. > :01:02.Correspondent Sarah Dickins. While steel dominates

:01:03. > :01:03.the landscape around Port Talbot, its role

:01:04. > :01:05.in the economy has lessened and appears

:01:06. > :01:09.to be seriously under threat. But now in a move not seen

:01:10. > :01:12.for decades, the UK Government says it

:01:13. > :01:14.would consider taking offering millions of pounds as loans

:01:15. > :01:21.on a commercial basis. It came just hours after

:01:22. > :01:23.billionaire Sir Terry Matthews entered the frame,

:01:24. > :01:25.part of a Welsh team If it makes sensible

:01:26. > :01:37.business and the future looks good, frankly, there

:01:38. > :01:41.will be investors and we already So if the board in Mumbai rejected

:01:42. > :01:49.the turnaround plan, why does this Welsh consortium

:01:50. > :01:54.think there is a future? It is led by Roger Max,

:01:55. > :01:57.with years of experience He has read the plan and is bringing

:01:58. > :02:05.together experts with one objective. Tell us how we can make

:02:06. > :02:09.the greenest, cheapest stealing the That is a vision and

:02:10. > :02:14.that is something people We do not have it today

:02:15. > :02:26.but what the bridge does for me is buys us the time to come up

:02:27. > :02:29.with that vision, it should not buy is the time to go back

:02:30. > :02:32.to being the old Port Talbot. Today the government offered

:02:33. > :02:34.hundreds of millions of pounds to make

:02:35. > :02:36.the takeover more attractive to They will now be able to see

:02:37. > :02:40.the numbers the government has The fact the UK Government disease

:02:41. > :02:52.and considering as an option taking a 25% stake in

:02:53. > :02:54.Tatas UK operations is Workers would not have dreamt

:02:55. > :02:57.that a few months ago. It is clear there are hundreds

:02:58. > :02:59.of millions of pounds available

:03:00. > :03:01.on the table a commercial rate. And also as well is that,

:03:02. > :03:04.the Welsh Government would be able to top up, perhaps helping

:03:05. > :03:06.with something like research and development or development

:03:07. > :03:08.of a new power plant. This story is moving very fast

:03:09. > :03:11.and there are interesting talks taking place here

:03:12. > :03:13.at the Celtic Manor. So what is the Welsh consortium

:03:14. > :03:15.think of the latest move A couple of hours ago,

:03:16. > :03:21.I was trying not to use Just as determined,

:03:22. > :03:30.much more confident. And tonight unions are updating

:03:31. > :03:40.workers at Port Talbot about the latest

:03:41. > :03:42.developments. The former Wales international

:03:43. > :03:44.footballer, Ched Evans, has had his conviction for rape

:03:45. > :03:46.quashed by the Court of Appeal. He's always maintained his

:03:47. > :03:48.innocence, but will have He was released from jail in 2014 -

:03:49. > :03:55.after serving half his sentence for raping a woman

:03:56. > :03:57.at a hotel near Rhyl. Paul Heaney reports

:03:58. > :03:59.from the Royal Courts Leaving court no longer a convicted

:04:00. > :04:04.rapist, Ched Evans always maintained his innocence

:04:05. > :04:06.but he will have On the basis that relevant

:04:07. > :04:10.and admissible evidence has come to light that was not available

:04:11. > :04:13.at the trial and that undermines the safety of his conviction,

:04:14. > :04:15.we have concluded that we must allow the appeal and that it is in

:04:16. > :04:21.the interests of justice A short statement read on his behalf

:04:22. > :04:27.thanked his supporters Ched Evans is extremely grateful

:04:28. > :04:32.for the Court of Appeal has ruled that his conviction for rape

:04:33. > :04:36.was unsafe and should be quashed. He was a promising striker,

:04:37. > :04:43.a record ?3 million signing for Sheffield United, called up

:04:44. > :04:48.to the Wales squad in 2008. A night out in Rhyl in 2011

:04:49. > :05:15.would change everything. There was outrage after the woman

:05:16. > :05:19.was named online. He served half of a five-year prison sentence. Jessica

:05:20. > :05:25.Ennis hill threatened to pull her support from Sheffield United if

:05:26. > :05:34.they played him again. His career was gone.

:05:35. > :05:37.But after a ten month investigation in to new evidence, he was allowed

:05:38. > :05:39.to appeal the conviction he had always maintained was wrong.

:05:40. > :05:41.New information had come to light since his conviction.

:05:42. > :05:44.It has been four years since Ched Evans was convicted

:05:45. > :05:47.and sent to jail but today, he left this court an innocent

:05:48. > :05:50.So what was it about this new information, this new evidence

:05:51. > :05:53.which allowed his appeal to be upheld here today?

:05:54. > :05:57.Well, none of the detail of that new evidence can be broadcast

:05:58. > :06:01.at the moment because it could affect the retrial of Ched Evans,

:06:02. > :06:06.which was also ordered in court today.

:06:07. > :06:10.We are expected to find out when that court case might take race

:06:11. > :06:20.A man from Aberdeen, who was allegedly bought by a man

:06:21. > :06:23.from Cardiff and forced to do hard labour for nearly 30 years, has

:06:24. > :06:27.told a jury at Cardiff Crown Court he had to live in a wooden shed.

:06:28. > :06:30.Four men from Cardiff are accused of making two other men live

:06:31. > :06:32.in appalling conditions, and work for as little

:06:33. > :06:41.On a visit to Mid Wales today, UKIP leader Nigel Farage admitted

:06:42. > :06:43.the party's candidate selection process for the Assembly Election

:06:44. > :06:48.Many Welsh party-members were unhappy high profile figures

:06:49. > :06:52.based in England were able to put their names forward.

:06:53. > :06:55.And UKIP's leader in Wales, Nathan Gill, has faced calls

:06:56. > :06:58.But speaking in Welshpool, Nigel Farage said Mr Gill has

:06:59. > :07:08.Four Welsh swimmers have been included in the team for this

:07:09. > :07:11.19-year-old Chloe Tutton says she's dreamt of this

:07:12. > :07:15.She'll be joined by Jazz Carlin, Georgia Davies and Ieuan Lloyd

:07:16. > :07:30.It means the world to me. I am proud of myself to achieve something like

:07:31. > :07:35.this. It is ten swimming pool sessions and you have gym sessions.

:07:36. > :07:41.It is a full-time job and most weeks I am tired and grumpy and just want

:07:42. > :07:45.to go to sleep. It is not the most social sport but you can only do it

:07:46. > :07:46.once and I am going to give it everything.

:07:47. > :07:48.She's Britain's longest reigning monarch - and today,

:07:49. > :07:50.events have been taking place across Wales today to

:07:51. > :07:52.celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's 90th Birthday.

:07:53. > :07:54.The commemorations started early this morning, and have been

:07:55. > :07:56.running into this evening, with dozens of beacons

:07:57. > :07:58.lit across the country to mark the Royal birthday,

:07:59. > :08:04.Flames burning bright in the Welsh capital.

:08:05. > :08:06.A beacon of light to commemorate her Majesty's milestone.

:08:07. > :08:10.The evening sky grew bright across Wales as dozens of Beacons

:08:11. > :08:14.were lit as a birthday tribute to the Queen, including here,

:08:15. > :08:18.on the highest peak in Wales, as army cadets lit the beacon

:08:19. > :08:23.The day began in suitably regal fashion, as school children around

:08:24. > :08:33.the country did their bit to celebrate the royal brithday.

:08:34. > :08:38.Here, primary schoolchildren operating their home-made crowns. It

:08:39. > :08:43.is their way of saying happy birthday to the Queen. It is amazing

:08:44. > :08:49.that she can handle the responsibilities of the Queen at her

:08:50. > :08:51.age. Why can't she live until 100? It is amazing.

:08:52. > :08:53.July 9th 1953 - just weeks after her coronation,

:08:54. > :08:56.the queen embarked on a tour of Wales.

:08:57. > :09:00.In Cardiff, there was pomp and pageantry.

:09:01. > :09:04.As so it was today, in the castle grounds - a 21 gun salute at noon

:09:05. > :09:09.It's a commemoration that also looms large,

:09:10. > :09:16.Businessman David Pickering is using the grounds of his home

:09:17. > :09:20.to display 40 sculptures of the Queen, alongside some rather

:09:21. > :09:28.In Windsor, it was giant balloons that greeted the Queen

:09:29. > :09:37.Judy and Anne Daley from Cardiff hoped Her Majesty would take one

:09:38. > :09:44.In fact, the sisters lost of those balloons and had to find

:09:45. > :09:57.The number nine escaped. I ran after it and all the children enjoyed it.

:09:58. > :10:08.I couldn't catch it and up it went. It might even body on Her Majesty's

:10:09. > :10:12.doorstep or in the State Department. In Merthyr Tydfil, William is having

:10:13. > :10:17.a quieter time. It is his 90th birthday today and he is sharing it

:10:18. > :10:21.with his wife. He received letters from Her Majesty and invites to

:10:22. > :10:28.Buckingham Palace. The last time he was there, he challenged the Queen

:10:29. > :10:33.on a very important issue. I said I don't wish to be impertinent or

:10:34. > :10:38.route towards you in anyway but I am not certain, are you ten minutes

:10:39. > :10:47.older than me or am I10 minutes older than you? She said, "I will

:10:48. > :10:52.have to check the books." She went away smiling. The Queen has been

:10:53. > :10:56.present at many of the milestones in Wales' post-war history. Wales in

:10:57. > :11:00.turn has been celebrating into the night. A chain of Beacons

:11:01. > :11:03.eliminating the final hours of her special day.

:11:04. > :11:05.Sunshine for many parts of Wales today - is there any

:11:06. > :11:20.We had 20 Celsius here in Wales. It will be more unsettled over the next

:11:21. > :11:21.couple of days. Overnight, cloud will thicken,

:11:22. > :11:23.winds picking up too. Some rain pushing in further south

:11:24. > :11:26.and with thicker cloud, less cold A weather front trying to push

:11:27. > :11:34.in from the south west. Some uncertainty how far

:11:35. > :11:37.north this will come. It should start dry

:11:38. > :11:40.further north tomorrow. Best of the brightness here too

:11:41. > :11:43.but that front starting to bring And the northern half the UK holding

:11:44. > :11:47.on the the dry bright weather for one more day but that

:11:48. > :11:50.front bring spells of rain Breezy and cooler

:11:51. > :11:52.everywhere tomorrow. Across Wales thicker cloud and rain

:11:53. > :11:59.spreading up to parts of mid Wales. Brisk easterly winds picking up

:12:00. > :12:01.and feeling colder at nine Celsius It looks like that front stalls

:12:02. > :12:08.and then retreats back southwards tomorrow night and these

:12:09. > :12:09.isobars straighten out. Northerly winds

:12:10. > :12:13.introducing arctic air. The cloud and rain clears

:12:14. > :12:16.southwards tomorrow might, clearer skies develop

:12:17. > :12:19.from from the north. Winds turn lighter

:12:20. > :12:20.but bring colder air A cold start Saturday then

:12:21. > :12:24.a mix of sunny spells Brisk winds and showers more

:12:25. > :12:27.likely further west. Some could be wintry on high ground

:12:28. > :12:42.- highs of nine Celsius. Turning caller and breezy as we head

:12:43. > :12:43.into the weekend. A mix of sunny spells but those showers could be

:12:44. > :12:45.wintry at times. All this week and next week

:12:49. > :12:50.on the 5th of May. We're travelling the length
