:00:00. > :00:07.Our top stories: Clashes over the NHS in tonights' party leader's

:00:08. > :00:10.debate - with a week to go before polling day we'll

:00:11. > :00:16.The UK Government says its financial support for a Tata buyer isn't

:00:17. > :00:23.And 100 days to Rio - but we hear there'll be fewer

:00:24. > :00:43.Welsh athletes in Team GB than four years ago.

:00:44. > :00:48.The leaders of the main parties at the assembly have clashed over

:00:49. > :00:49.health in the final live television debate,

:00:50. > :00:54.First Minister Carwyn Jones said Labour ministers were spending

:00:55. > :00:58.a bigger share of their budget on the NHS than ever.

:00:59. > :01:00.But rival parties attacked Labour's 17-year health record

:01:01. > :01:02.presenting their alternative visions for the service.

:01:03. > :01:15.Our political editor, Nick Servini, was watching.

:01:16. > :01:20.With a week to go until polling day, the leaders of the six main parties

:01:21. > :01:27.lined up against each other at Saint Davids Hall in Cardiff. The NHS was

:01:28. > :01:31.the first issue raised. But of the debate focused on the question of

:01:32. > :01:39.whether there should be a cancer drugs firms, sparked by this

:01:40. > :01:43.emotional question. We are lagging behind England and there are drug

:01:44. > :01:48.treatments that you can have across the border that you cannot have in

:01:49. > :01:52.this country. There are people right now in bed who are ill and would be

:01:53. > :01:57.better off in England. When I voted for devolution, I did not expect to

:01:58. > :02:02.have second-rate health care... Labour leader Carwyn Jones responded

:02:03. > :02:07.with the reference to Labour's plan to bring in a specialist on to cover

:02:08. > :02:10.all conditions, which prompted this from the leader of the Welsh

:02:11. > :02:16.Conservatives, who went on the attack. Patients have gone from

:02:17. > :02:19.Wales to England to get those treatments, as the lady identified.

:02:20. > :02:26.One in three of us will have a episode of cancer, going down to one

:02:27. > :02:30.into. We have championed a cancer drugs and here in Wales and we want

:02:31. > :02:34.to expand that into a cancer treatment plan that will cover from

:02:35. > :02:40.diagnostic into drug availability but you cannot brush it under the

:02:41. > :02:45.carpet, Carwyn Jones. You haven't made the improvements.

:02:46. > :02:50.Carwyn Jones and the pride with macro Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood

:02:51. > :02:56.-- and Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood then clashed.

:02:57. > :03:00.I would rather spend money on patients...

:03:01. > :03:03.We want the health minister to be responsible... We want the health

:03:04. > :03:06.minister to be responsible for health and we want the government to

:03:07. > :03:10.take responsibility and stop being in denial for the top it is

:03:11. > :03:15.democratic responsibility, that you have abdicated.

:03:16. > :03:22.Where would it be based? What do you mean where would it be based? Is the

:03:23. > :03:26.NHS, it is all over Wales. On the economy the issue moved on to

:03:27. > :03:32.the steel crisis, in which the Green party outlined how alternative

:03:33. > :03:35.models should be looked at. You guys in your community could own that

:03:36. > :03:43.plant and you could be in charge of what your own job is. And the

:03:44. > :03:48.sustainability of that job relies on the fact we could create a renewable

:03:49. > :03:53.economy in Wales and use that deal. There is a huge opportunity in Wales

:03:54. > :03:56.to build up our renewable infrastructure and use that steel in

:03:57. > :04:00.Wales and create many more jobs. Then plans for an M4 relief road in

:04:01. > :04:04.Newport came up and whether a ?1 billion motorway should be built.

:04:05. > :04:10.Kirsty Williams for the Liberal Democrats said the investment should

:04:11. > :04:14.be spread out further across Wales. If we are to have infrastructure

:04:15. > :04:18.that is for the whole of Wales, you don't blow the entire budget on one

:04:19. > :04:24.road in one section of Wales and we have to look at a fair distribution

:04:25. > :04:29.of resources. We have to look at the transport solutions both here in the

:04:30. > :04:35.South Southeast and also looking at the feasibility of opening up the

:04:36. > :04:40.Aberystwyth to Carmarthen landfills top Nathan Gill for Ukip defended

:04:41. > :04:50.his party policy to reintroduce grammar schools.

:04:51. > :04:55.Pushing us all into the one size fits all system, if it worked, why

:04:56. > :04:59.are we behind Estonia in the user tables? It doesn't work. You have

:05:00. > :05:03.been doing it for 17 years and it doesn't work and in England, where

:05:04. > :05:07.they still have grammar schools, they are the ones that the parents

:05:08. > :05:12.want their children to go to. And with that, the last set piece

:05:13. > :05:14.event of the campaign came to an end as we enter the final week of the

:05:15. > :05:16.as we enter the final week of the campaign.

:05:17. > :05:19.Nick what did we learn from the debate?

:05:20. > :05:26.Well, the opposition party certainly wanted the big debates tonight on

:05:27. > :05:31.the state of the NHS in Wales and I think they got that. The tone was

:05:32. > :05:35.set by Carwyn Jones early on in his opening statement. He didn't mention

:05:36. > :05:39.the steelworks, talked about the NHS and mentioned the junior doctors

:05:40. > :05:44.like in England as evidence of a system that works in Wales. Andrew

:05:45. > :05:47.RT Davies was pretty aggressive early on, trying to land blows on

:05:48. > :05:54.that highly charged subject of the Cancer Drugs Fund. It is very

:05:55. > :05:58.different from the leaders debate last week, were in effect the

:05:59. > :06:02.opposition parties were ganging up against Carwyn Jones. This had a

:06:03. > :06:07.more broken up feel about it with different browser eking out in

:06:08. > :06:11.different places. It was striking that Carwyn Jones was focused more

:06:12. > :06:15.on his criticism not on the Conservatives but an Plaid Cymru.

:06:16. > :06:19.Not just on the NHS but on university tuition fees funding.

:06:20. > :06:25.Leanne Wood got fed up at one stage, accusing Carwyn Jones of

:06:26. > :06:30.misrepresenting her party. Ukip very much talked about the issue of the

:06:31. > :06:32.EU, which they haven't done in the past. Inevitably, all parties are

:06:33. > :06:37.claiming victory but it will be up to us to decide.

:06:38. > :06:40.The rest of the day's news now - and the UK government is NOT

:06:41. > :06:42.offering financial support to Tata, to encourage it to keep

:06:43. > :06:44.hold of its operations, including Port Talbot.

:06:45. > :06:46.The Business Department has confirmed to BBC Wales

:06:47. > :06:48.that its co-investment offer of taking a 25% stake

:06:49. > :06:52.in the company is only available to buyers.

:06:53. > :06:53.Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, David Cameron, says there's "no

:06:54. > :06:56.guarantee" that government efforts to save the British steel industry

:06:57. > :07:06.will be successful but it's doing everything it can.

:07:07. > :07:13.While we want to do everything we can to secure the future not only

:07:14. > :07:17.for Port Talbot but also for Scunthorpe and deal-making in

:07:18. > :07:20.Britain, we are coping with a massive oversupply and collapse in

:07:21. > :07:25.prices from China, so we must do everything we can and there is no

:07:26. > :07:29.guarantee of success but we want to get on with it and we can success.

:07:30. > :07:31.A Wrexham-based football club has said it's severed

:07:32. > :07:33.all ties with a player, over remarks he made on Twitter

:07:34. > :07:36.26-year-old Jonny Taylor, who played for Gresford Athletic,

:07:37. > :07:38.retweeted a comment about fans' behaviour,

:07:39. > :07:44.The club says it does not condone the views,

:07:45. > :07:46.and wants to distance itself from the comments.

:07:47. > :07:52.The inquests concluded that the 96 fans were unlawfully killed.

:07:53. > :07:54.Traders in Flintshire say they're losing business,

:07:55. > :07:57.Delays mean improvement work in Queensferry has been

:07:58. > :08:02.Business owners say they've had little communication from

:08:03. > :08:05.the council about the disruption but it says access to businesses

:08:06. > :08:06.and properties WILL be maintained throughout,

:08:07. > :08:13.and will hold a public meeting tomorrow.

:08:14. > :08:15.A second beach has been declared smoke-free in Wales.

:08:16. > :08:18.Swansea council chose Caswell Bay to trial its voluntary smoking ban,

:08:19. > :08:22.Little Haven in Pembrokeshire became the UK's first beach to be declared

:08:23. > :08:31.100 days before the start of the Olympic Games, the Director

:08:32. > :08:34.of Elite Sports Performance in Wales says there will be fewer Welsh

:08:35. > :08:37.athletes in Rio this summer compared to the representation in London.

:08:38. > :08:42.30 from Wales were part of team GB four years ago.

:08:43. > :08:47.But Brian Davies believes those in the team now will have a genuine

:08:48. > :08:54.chance of returning with a medal, as Iwan Griffiths reports.

:08:55. > :08:56.With 100 days to go, the Welsh Olympic class of 2016

:08:57. > :09:05.So far sailor Hannah Mills has secured her place, Elena Allen is

:09:06. > :09:11.He will be the only Welsh boxer on the plane as Non

:09:12. > :09:16.Stanford and Helen Jenkins both aim to take triathlon gold this summer.

:09:17. > :09:18.Four swimmers from Wales - Jazz Carlin, Georgia Davies,

:09:19. > :09:20.Chloe Turton and Ieuan Lloyd have also claimed the

:09:21. > :09:24.places and having lost out on the 2012 Olympic dream,

:09:25. > :09:30.for experienced athlete Jazz Carlin, making Team GB

:09:31. > :09:38.The 25-year-old who finally secured a

:09:39. > :09:41.place earlier this month has been striking the official Olympic

:09:42. > :09:49.I have still got my head in the clouds and it hasn't

:09:50. > :09:54.It is an incredible feeling and I can't wait for the next few

:09:55. > :09:59.Originally from Llanwrtyd Wells, Natalie Powell is on the cusp

:10:00. > :10:02.of making the team but she still needs to gain the crucial points to

:10:03. > :10:06.There are three competitions left now in the

:10:07. > :10:09.qualification period so I've just got to concentrate on them and put

:10:10. > :10:11.in a good performance and I think if I perform

:10:12. > :10:13.my best in all three of

:10:14. > :10:18.What would a place in Rio mean to you?

:10:19. > :10:19.It would mean everything to go to Rio.

:10:20. > :10:22.Everything I have done in the last four years

:10:23. > :10:25.has been tailored to that so it would be the icing on the cake and I

:10:26. > :10:36.Fears the athletes from Wales are part of the

:10:37. > :10:38.team in London four years ago, contributing seven medals.

:10:39. > :10:40.With nine names confirmed, is the aim to beat

:10:41. > :10:47.London was a special case in that it was a home

:10:48. > :10:49.games, which meant there were host nation places which we

:10:50. > :10:53.Everyone who is going to Rio has had to earn

:10:54. > :10:54.that through quota systems, competitions.

:10:55. > :10:57.The next announcement will be the rowing team, due on the

:10:58. > :11:00.9th of June, with the likes of Victoria Thornley from St Asaph and

:11:01. > :11:03.Chris Barclay from Wrexham set to get the nod, as Wales add more

:11:04. > :11:19.Temperatures are dropping it into the night, with some frost. We have

:11:20. > :11:25.had hail and snow in some places today. A couple of funnel clouds

:11:26. > :11:30.like this one. Much of the country dry and clear tonight with a

:11:31. > :11:35.widespread frost. Maybe a few showers in mid and North Wales later

:11:36. > :11:42.on. These are wintry later on. Temperatures in Powys minus three.

:11:43. > :11:45.Some frost first thing with a few showers dotted around. Wintry in

:11:46. > :11:52.places. Clearing later in the morning, leaving many places dry and

:11:53. > :11:57.right. Across the rest of the UK, in a lot of places dry with a couple of

:11:58. > :11:59.showers in England. In the north-west, low pressure brings rain

:12:00. > :12:04.to Northern Ireland, spreading further east. Snow in parts of

:12:05. > :12:07.Scotland and northern England on the hills. The wind picking up,

:12:08. > :12:11.particularly in the north-west through the Irish Sea with a high of

:12:12. > :12:17.10 Celsius in Birmingham. Tomorrow afternoon dry and bright to start

:12:18. > :12:20.within Wales but it won't last. Rain spreading from the West with wind

:12:21. > :12:26.picking up with a high of nine Celsius. Breezy with outbreaks of

:12:27. > :12:31.rain. This will clear overnight with a few showers following into the

:12:32. > :12:34.North and mid Wales. A breezy and windy night with temperatures

:12:35. > :12:39.staying above freezing. Friday a breezy day with a few showers,

:12:40. > :12:42.wintry on high ground this tops and drier bright weather in the south

:12:43. > :12:46.especially with most of the showers in the North. Then it is looking

:12:47. > :12:52.very mixed for the bank holiday weekend. Sunshine and showers are

:12:53. > :12:54.some rain and becoming windy. It is looking like Saturday will be the
