:00:39. > :00:40.As Assembly Members returned to the Senedd following last week's

:00:41. > :00:44.election, Labour's Carwyn Jones was expected to be re-appointed

:00:45. > :00:48.but Plaid Cymru nominated its leader, Leanne Wood.

:00:49. > :00:52.And it ended in deadlock, 29 votes each, after

:00:53. > :00:55.Leanne Wood won the backing of the Conservatives and Ukip.

:00:56. > :00:59.Here's our political editor, Nick Servini.

:01:00. > :01:02.It was supposed to have been a formality, but instead,

:01:03. > :01:05.the nomination of who should be the next First Minister turned

:01:06. > :01:09.into a dramatic roll call between Carwyn Jones

:01:10. > :01:12.or Plaid Cymru's leader, Leanne Wood.

:01:13. > :01:37.The Conservatives and Ukip supported Leanne Wood,

:01:38. > :01:39.Kirsty Williams for the Liberal Democrats

:01:40. > :01:44.The deadlock caught everyone by surprise.

:01:45. > :01:47.The woman who had just been made the new Presiding Officer,

:01:48. > :01:57.In frantic briefings immediately after by, Plaid said they took

:01:58. > :02:02.the action because Carwyn Jones had refused to delay the vote.

:02:03. > :02:07.All they wanted was more time to discuss policies.

:02:08. > :02:12.What is quite clear from this today is that the people of Wales now see

:02:13. > :02:16.very clearly that not one party has an overall majority here.

:02:17. > :02:19.Any party who seeks to form a government has to reflect

:02:20. > :02:22.on the fact that there needs to be a consensus, bridge-building,

:02:23. > :02:27.The Tories were happy to support Plaid Cymru.

:02:28. > :02:29.There was an opportunity for the opposition parties to come

:02:30. > :02:33.together today and put a check on Labour, just assuming

:02:34. > :02:35.that they were going to have a coronation.

:02:36. > :02:37.Now discussions will ensue over the next couple of days

:02:38. > :02:40.to see if a programme of government can emerge.

:02:41. > :02:43.There was a furious reaction from Labour, who described it

:02:44. > :02:46.as a stunt and a sign that by Plaid were prepared to go back

:02:47. > :02:49.on what they said they would not do, which was do deals

:02:50. > :02:56.We do have very clear mandate to govern.

:02:57. > :03:01.That mandate should be respected by the other parties in This Place.

:03:02. > :03:05.When I was voting in my old infant school last week, I was talking

:03:06. > :03:11.to people who would never ever have voted Plaid Cymru if they had known

:03:12. > :03:14.the first action they would do was to do a deal with

:03:15. > :03:41.The intention here was clear from all of the opposition parties

:03:42. > :03:44.and Plaid Cymru in particular, to give Labour a bloody nose.

:03:45. > :03:49.Talks will continue over the next few days ahead of another vote.

:03:50. > :03:52.One of the biggest issues facing the next Welsh Government

:03:53. > :03:55.The Prime Minister and the Confederation of

:03:56. > :03:58.British Industry's Director General are calling on ministers to get

:03:59. > :04:02.on with it but the company Roadchef has raised an official objection

:04:03. > :04:05.to the plans, saying they would be devastating for the future of one

:04:06. > :04:20.This is a business that has a long and very successful future,

:04:21. > :04:26.providing a motorway to the service area. The danger is that if plans go

:04:27. > :04:28.ahead, I am not sure this service area has a future.

:04:29. > :04:31.A former North Wales Police officer will go on trial in September,

:04:32. > :04:33.charged with historic sexual abuse of boys.

:04:34. > :04:34.Retired superintendent Gordon Anglesea from Old Colwyn,

:04:35. > :04:37.seen here at an earlier hearing, faces several charges

:04:38. > :04:43.The trial will be held at the Old Bailey in London.

:04:44. > :04:46.National Museum workers and union members protested outside the Senedd

:05:04. > :05:05.the death of a 12-year-old boy from Blaenau Gwent,

:05:06. > :05:08.did not breach her duty towards him in any way.

:05:09. > :05:11.Dr Lindsey Thomas denies unlawfully killing Ryan Morse

:05:12. > :05:17.Her colleague, Dr Joanne Rudling, also denies manslaughter

:05:25. > :05:27.Ryan Moorse had Addison's disease, a rare condition of the adrenal

:05:28. > :05:30.gland which can be fatal if left untreated.

:05:31. > :05:38.But in the hours before he died his mother spoke to one of his GPs,

:05:39. > :05:43.In a statement read out in court, Doctor Thomas described

:05:44. > :05:45.the conversation she had with Ryan's mother on the phone

:05:46. > :05:51.In it she described Ryan being extremely unwell, being sick

:05:52. > :05:54.with with profuse diarrhoea, and with a high temperature.

:05:55. > :05:57.She suggested that Ryan try to take paracetamol to bring his temperature

:05:58. > :06:00.down and that his mother should ring back in two hours if

:06:01. > :06:04.She checked for symptoms of meningitis and satisfied

:06:05. > :06:08.that they weren't present she decided his symptoms

:06:09. > :06:11.were probably down to the Norovirus, a stomach bug that was going around

:06:12. > :06:13.at the time and something that Ryan's mother suspected

:06:14. > :06:18.She said she was shocked to discover next week at work

:06:19. > :06:22.Doctor Thomas told police, "I do not feel I have

:06:23. > :06:28."I do not feel I was in anyway neglectful to him".

:08:43. > :09:05.Feeling fresher 13 Celsius. Still hanging onto the warmth in the south
