0:00:13 > 0:00:15Good evening.
0:00:15 > 0:00:18Proposals to ban e-cigarettes in some public places are to be
0:00:18 > 0:00:21dropped from Wales' public health bill.
0:00:21 > 0:00:24The first minister Carwyn Jones says he doesn't have enough support
0:00:24 > 0:00:27in the Assembly to get the legislation through.
0:00:27 > 0:00:33Here's our political correspondent, Arwyn Jones.
0:00:33 > 0:00:35In the last vote of the last Assembly before the election,
0:00:35 > 0:00:38the government narrowly lost a vote to ban the use of e-cigarettes
0:00:38 > 0:00:39in some public places.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41There has been speculation they might try again,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43but that's been ruled out today.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46There is no point running into a brick wall,
0:00:46 > 0:00:49so it is important that we get a Public Health Bill through that
0:00:49 > 0:00:52will command support across the Assembly.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54We have to recognise reality, and there are many aspects
0:00:54 > 0:00:57of the Public Health Bill that are important, and it is important
0:00:57 > 0:00:58to get those through.
0:00:58 > 0:01:00Mr Jones has said he wants more cooperation between parties
0:01:00 > 0:01:03in Cardiff Bay, so he will go back to the drawing board
0:01:03 > 0:01:04on council mergers as well.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07He needs opposition support to get his policies and his budgets
0:01:07 > 0:01:09through, and reached agreement with Plaid Cymru
0:01:09 > 0:01:11to become First Minster.
0:01:11 > 0:01:15But they were very few details in the deal between the two parties.
0:01:15 > 0:01:18The First Minister said many details were unclear about Plaid Cymru's
0:01:18 > 0:01:20calls for more doctors.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23He also was not keen on the party's call for an independent commission
0:01:23 > 0:01:25to look at big infrastructure projects, and that could
0:01:25 > 0:01:28cause a few problems.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31We have agreed to set one up, and that was the agreement
0:01:31 > 0:01:34that we made last week in order to allow him
0:01:34 > 0:01:36to be elected as First Minister.
0:01:36 > 0:01:41As I have said, for Plaid Cymru support on future votes,
0:01:41 > 0:01:45including legislation and budget, I expect to see some progress
0:01:45 > 0:01:47and no reneging on the agreement we have
0:01:47 > 0:01:50made this week.
0:01:50 > 0:01:53Another area where things could get a bit rough is the M4 relief road.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55The government favours the so-called black route, Plaid Cymru oppose
0:01:55 > 0:01:57because of the cost.
0:01:57 > 0:02:01They prefer another plan, called the blue route.
0:02:01 > 0:02:03We would not support the blue route, for the simple reason
0:02:03 > 0:02:07that it is a dual carriageway and there is no point in replacing
0:02:07 > 0:02:09one dual carriageway that is crowded with another dual carriageway,
0:02:09 > 0:02:12that makes no sense to me, given the fact is not that much
0:02:12 > 0:02:13cheaper than the black route.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16Secondly, the blue route runs past literally thousands
0:02:16 > 0:02:17of people in their houses.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20Labour could rely on support from the Conservatives, but all parties
0:02:20 > 0:02:25will have to wait for an independent enquiry into the M4 first.
0:02:25 > 0:02:28One area they do agree about is that there is
0:02:28 > 0:02:33different way of working in Cardiff Bay now.
0:02:33 > 0:02:36The BBC understands that two of the bidders for TATA steel's UK
0:02:36 > 0:02:38operations are prepared to work together.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40Liberty House and Excalibur, a management buy-out team,
0:02:40 > 0:02:43say they'll submit separate bids, BUT, could work in partnership.
0:02:43 > 0:02:51Teleri Glyn Jones has the details.
0:02:51 > 0:02:54This week, bosses at Tata Steel HQ in India will be deciding which of
0:02:54 > 0:02:57the seven bids to buy the company's UK steel operations will move
0:02:57 > 0:02:58forward in the sale process.
0:02:58 > 0:03:02The BBC understands that now two of those
0:03:02 > 0:03:06bidders, Excalibur, led by Stuart Wilkie,
0:03:06 > 0:03:09a Tata Steel executive and Liberty Steel led by Sanjiv
0:03:09 > 0:03:10Gupta are willing to co-operate.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12Neither side would comment today but the
0:03:12 > 0:03:14community trade union said a joint venture
0:03:14 > 0:03:15would be an interesting and
0:03:15 > 0:03:18potentially positive development.
0:03:18 > 0:03:21UKIP's leader in Wales, Nathan Gill, says Neil Hamilton reinforces
0:03:21 > 0:03:24stereotypes about the party.
0:03:24 > 0:03:27Mr Gill was responding fter Mr Hamilton, described two senior
0:03:27 > 0:03:30female AMs as "political concubines" in Carwyn Jones'
0:03:30 > 0:03:32"harem".
0:03:32 > 0:03:34Mr Gill told BBC Radio Wales' Sunday Supplement programme
0:03:34 > 0:03:37the party had to be professional.
0:03:37 > 0:03:42But Mr Hamilton says he has no regrets about the language he used.
0:03:42 > 0:03:44Some sporting headlines now, starting with cricket.
0:03:44 > 0:03:46At close of play, Glamorgan are all out for 260
0:03:46 > 0:03:49against Essex on the first day of their second division test.
0:03:49 > 0:03:55In reply, the visitors are 29 for 1 in their first innings.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58It's been a big day for cycling in Wales.
0:03:58 > 0:04:00Around 12,000 amateur riders took part in the Velothon,
0:04:00 > 0:04:02setting off from Cardiff.
0:04:02 > 0:04:05There've been some changes following criticism last year
0:04:05 > 0:04:07about road closures, a lack of information,
0:04:07 > 0:04:14and the effect on businesses.
0:04:14 > 0:04:16There's been formal consultations, there's been a whole load of public
0:04:16 > 0:04:20meetings, over 200,000 letters have gone out to individuals, individual
0:04:20 > 0:04:24addresses, you know, we've also had the team behind
0:04:24 > 0:04:26the scenes that's been working with hundreds and
0:04:26 > 0:04:29hundreds of individual calls.
0:04:29 > 0:04:31People going about their daily lives, you
0:04:31 > 0:04:34know, carers having to get access to patients, people needing to get
0:04:34 > 0:04:37married and needing to get to, you know, their wedding venues.
0:04:37 > 0:04:40Time now for your Sunday weather round up.
0:04:40 > 0:04:43A bright start to the day tomorrow, but some heavy showers developing
0:04:43 > 0:04:45in the East of the country later.
0:04:45 > 0:04:47Further west it will be drier, with sunny spells.
0:04:47 > 0:04:48Top Temperature 16 Celsius.
0:04:48 > 0:04:50And that's it from the Sunday Wales Today team.
0:04:50 > 0:04:53We'll have updates in breakfast from 6:30 but for now,
0:04:53 > 0:04:55from everyone on the programme, have a very good evening.
0:04:55 > 0:04:56Good night.
