:00:00. > :00:10.As Welsh steelworkers march in London for more

:00:11. > :00:12.support for the industry, in India, Tata continues to assess

:00:13. > :00:29.You have to give time to the company to evaluate the bits, consider them

:00:30. > :00:33.and then go back to bidders if they need clarification.

:00:34. > :00:35.A jury hears Finlay Thomas was murdered in a "deliberate

:00:36. > :00:37.and vicious" act by his mother's boyfriend.

:01:26. > :01:29.Tata Steel says it still hasn't reached a decision about the future

:01:30. > :01:34.It had been expected to decide on a shortlist of potential

:01:35. > :01:35.buyers for the sites, which include Port Talbot,

:01:36. > :01:42.But in the last few hours, it's said it needs more time

:01:43. > :01:46.It comes as hundreds of steelworkers gathered in London for a rally

:01:47. > :01:51.to urge the UK government to give more support to the industry.

:01:52. > :01:54.Here's our Business Correspondent, Brian Meechan.

:01:55. > :01:59.Steelworkers from Wales joined colleagues to take their message

:02:00. > :02:04.As well as a strategy to help traditional industries,

:02:05. > :02:09.they want ministers to ensure that Tata remains a responsible seller.

:02:10. > :02:18.But these workers will have to wait a bit longer to find out

:02:19. > :02:25.I am delighted that the Government decided to take a different

:02:26. > :02:30.viewpoint. Sajid Javits was persuaded that they'd be paid to

:02:31. > :02:35.take a statement from the steel industry if necessary -- a stake in

:02:36. > :02:40.the steel industry. That is a confident note. That's why we've got

:02:41. > :02:43.bidders, that's why we've also got their situation being considered.

:02:44. > :02:46.But these workers will have to wait a bit longer to find out

:02:47. > :02:48.which of the several bidders will progress to the next

:02:49. > :02:54.Union members at the rally say they have a lot to offer buyers.

:02:55. > :03:01.We make a high-quality product. We've got the best workforce in the

:03:02. > :03:06.Wales. We believe, we passionately believe that we've got a long-term

:03:07. > :03:10.future for this industry. Steel and Port Talbot go hand-in-hand. This

:03:11. > :03:15.town was built in the steel industry. Without it the town would

:03:16. > :03:16.die, a ghost town. Thousands of residents relying on the steel so

:03:17. > :03:20.It's a rare sight to see a conservative government minister

:03:21. > :03:33.We are united. We all agree. Perhaps this has never happened before, we

:03:34. > :03:37.all want to save our steel. That is why the Prime Minister has said from

:03:38. > :03:41.the outset it is a vital industry. We don't want any stone left

:03:42. > :03:44.unturned. That is what we have done. We have looked at everything, and

:03:45. > :03:51.continue to look at everything, because we want to make sure that

:03:52. > :03:53.they stay open. We make steel in south Wales. That's what we are

:03:54. > :03:57.The business secretary, Sajid Javid, has been in Mumbai

:03:58. > :03:59.meeting the company's bosses ahead of the board meeting

:04:00. > :04:02.According to the UK government, discussions are positive but there

:04:03. > :04:12.Tata bosses say the process is ongoing.

:04:13. > :04:21.At all points in time we have been working closely with the British

:04:22. > :04:24.government both at the central level with the Business Minister and

:04:25. > :04:33.regional level in the Welsh government. I think, fundamentally,

:04:34. > :04:34.the premise of conversation is how to make this into an orderly

:04:35. > :04:38.to make this into an orderly transaction.

:04:39. > :04:40.Carwyn Jones also went to Mumbai to meet Tata bosses after first

:04:41. > :04:44.He surprised many by saying the Excalibur management buyout bid

:04:45. > :04:47.to takeover the company didn't yet have the funding it needed

:04:48. > :04:50.and he would like to see them working with the Liberty bid.

:04:51. > :04:57.The first minister is also raising concerns about the deficit

:04:58. > :05:07.It's inevitable that unless something is done it will be

:05:08. > :05:13.difficult for any bidder to be successful. It is a significant

:05:14. > :05:17.liability. What I don't want to see, is the fallback position of pension

:05:18. > :05:19.protection fund is being used. That affects both in the pension scheme.

:05:20. > :05:21.That affects both in the pension scheme.

:05:22. > :05:24.So the wait goes on for the workers but it's clear they'll continue

:05:25. > :05:28.to make their voices heard as this sales process marches on.

:05:29. > :05:35.Let's speak to Brian now, who is in Port Talbot for us tonight.

:05:36. > :05:45.The wait goes on for workers across sites in Wales. That's right, the

:05:46. > :05:48.wait goes on for workers and there is some concern about the process

:05:49. > :05:52.hasn't moved forward today as expected.

:05:53. > :05:58.But, on the other hand, the reason for that is that there are several

:05:59. > :06:02.serious and credible bids. That does pose a good future, ultimately, for

:06:03. > :06:13.Port Talbot and the other sites around Wales. There has been

:06:14. > :06:19.speculation that Tata may change its mind. A turnaround plan has been put

:06:20. > :06:23.in place that was rejected by Tata. It is already paying dividends and

:06:24. > :06:28.the UK Government is finally talking the kind of language on pensions,

:06:29. > :06:35.energy and Chinese tariffs that Tata 's been trying to get them to talk

:06:36. > :06:40.for years. Today Tata said this was part of the process of selling and

:06:41. > :06:44.they were not, at this point, looking at keeping hold. But they

:06:45. > :06:46.will be some bidders tonight who may be quite concerned about the

:06:47. > :06:48.direction of travel. Thank you, Brian.

:06:49. > :06:51.A jury at Cardiff Crown Court has been hearing how a seventeen month

:07:36. > :07:37.Finlay was taken to the local hospital, but later died

:07:38. > :07:40.after being transferred to the University Hospital

:07:41. > :07:43.A postmortem examination gave his cause of death

:07:44. > :07:50.The prosecutor, Roger Thomas, told the jury at Cardiff Crown Court

:07:51. > :07:53.that medical experts believe the severity of Finlay's brain

:08:01. > :08:03.He said it was more typically seen in abuse caused by shaking

:08:04. > :08:07.He told the court this was not caused by an accident,

:08:08. > :08:10.but a deliberate and vicious act by Sean Buckley,

:08:11. > :08:12.who had given a deceitful and manufactured account

:08:13. > :08:15.of what happened, assisted by the lies and support

:08:16. > :08:21.Cardiff Crown Court heard that doctors who examined Finlay's body

:08:22. > :08:26.found previous multiple bleeds and injuries to his head and spine.

:08:27. > :08:30.A garden chair was produced as an exhibit, and the jury was told

:08:31. > :08:32.the toddler also had injuries consistent with him either

:08:33. > :08:36.being struck with it, or struck against it.

:08:37. > :08:38.There was also evidence of bleeding to his eyes,

:09:06. > :09:08.The performance of the Welsh ambulance service has improved

:09:09. > :09:12.after a deterioration in response times during the winter.

:09:13. > :09:14.In April 71% of emergency vehicles responded to immediately

:09:15. > :09:19.life-threatening calls within eight minutes, that's up

:09:20. > :09:26.The target is that 65 % of ambulances should

:09:27. > :09:30.arrive to so called 'red calls' within that time.

:09:31. > :09:33.Two Labour Assembly Members have asked the Welsh Government to reject

:09:34. > :09:35.housing proposals put forward by their Labour colleagues

:09:36. > :09:40.Government planners had already raised concerns about the local

:09:45. > :09:50.The council says it'll take full account of views expressed

:09:51. > :09:57.The family of a Swansea football fan who died after being trampled

:09:58. > :10:01.by a police horse 16 years ago has called for a review of the evidence.

:10:02. > :10:06.Terry Coles was struck outside Rotherham football ground in 2000.

:10:41. > :10:45.More than a decade on the believe justice has not yet been served.

:10:46. > :10:48.I feel like this is our final chance, really.

:10:49. > :10:52.And we hope that the South Yorkshire Police will be approached

:10:53. > :10:56.as to reconsider the evidence, readdress all the issues,

:10:57. > :10:59.because, the end of the day, nobody deserved to go

:11:00. > :11:06.You know, it was an accident that should never, ever have happened.

:11:07. > :11:10.Mr Coles was with many other football fans in this lane outside

:12:13. > :12:14.Particularly, it said, in allowing mounted police to canter

:12:15. > :12:20.I think there's definitely an option for the family to reinvestigate

:12:21. > :12:29.Also, I think it needs to be, I request needs to be made

:12:30. > :12:32.to the Independent Police Complaints Commission to see

:12:33. > :12:36.whether or not their findings should be given more weight.

:12:37. > :12:39.The Coles family says it is seeking legal advice

:12:40. > :12:43.In the meantime, South Yorkshire Police says they are yet

:13:23. > :13:27.On a visit to its centre in Prestayn, its founder,

:13:28. > :13:30.Dame Esther Rantzen, has appealed for more volunteers

:13:31. > :13:47.We can announce a brand-new idea in this country, a national helpline

:13:48. > :13:48.for children in trouble or danger. It is free, it's called Childline.

:13:49. > :13:52.Esther Rantzen launched the charity in 1986 giving children a 24 hour

:13:57. > :14:02.The average number of contacts has trebled over the past three

:14:03. > :14:09.decades thanks partly to developments in technology.

:14:10. > :14:21.This base has dealt with 125,000 counselling sessions dealing with

:14:22. > :14:28.topics from exams dressed to family problems. 60% of sessions now take

:14:29. > :14:33.place online. When we started people had landlines, children used to ring

:14:34. > :14:37.from public phone boxes, the red boxes. Sometimes in the middle of

:14:38. > :14:41.the night, sometimes going through snow or sleet to make that call.

:14:42. > :14:46.From a child's point of view they regard this as a way of talking.

:14:47. > :14:50.They say it's good to talk to you. I was watching a child being

:14:51. > :14:56.cancelled online, the last thing she said was, thank you for listening to

:14:57. > :15:01.me. They feel this is the new way that children can communicate

:15:02. > :15:06.safely. What would you like to talk about today? Carroll has been a

:15:07. > :15:10.councillor for eight years, volunteers come from all kinds of

:15:11. > :15:15.backgrounds. She says ideal candidates only need to be good at

:15:16. > :15:20.one thing. Listening. Young people today are under such a lot of

:15:21. > :15:24.pressure. The main thing is nobody listens to me. Nobody listens. So

:15:25. > :15:27.you listen. And you allow them time and space to tell their story,

:15:28. > :15:29.really. emailing or texting thousands

:15:30. > :15:31.of children are still sharing their stories

:15:32. > :15:33.here and across the country. A recruitment drive will ensure

:15:34. > :15:35.someone's always on hand There are calls for a scheme

:15:36. > :15:40.to tackle high levels of acidity in rivers to be given the go

:15:41. > :15:43.ahead across Wales. The charity Carmarthenshire Rivers

:15:44. > :15:46.Trust claims its liming project has had dramatic results,

:15:47. > :15:49.transforming a river that was failing EU standards

:15:50. > :15:54.on water quality and wildlife. Our Environment Correspondent,

:15:55. > :15:57.Steffan Messenger has more. This river flows between Tregaron

:15:58. > :16:06.and Llandovery, and is an important That, for wildlife to thrive here,

:16:07. > :16:13.it needs a helping hand. The river has been badly

:16:14. > :16:19.affected by acidification. I've, personally, taken an reading,

:16:20. > :16:22.and one of the first streams at the top of the catchment

:16:23. > :16:25.which is the same as table vinegar. It was an acidic environment anyway,

:16:26. > :16:28.but it is exacerbated by the conifer plantation at the top

:16:29. > :16:32.of the catchment. They have a capacity to scavenge

:16:33. > :16:36.pollutants out of the air, and in rainfall these pollutants get

:16:37. > :16:40.washed into the river. So, since 2010, the team has been

:16:41. > :16:43.introducing tonnes of this stuff, It reacts with the water hoping

:16:44. > :16:51.to neutralise the acid. Those involved so the results

:16:52. > :16:54.speak for themselves, before the project began this

:16:55. > :16:57.catchment was deemed to be failing EU standards of water quality

:16:58. > :17:01.and wildlife in the river. It has since been reclassified,

:17:02. > :17:12.and now has good ecological status. These guys will tell

:17:13. > :17:14.us a lot about what's going on in the river

:17:15. > :17:16.with water quality. This chap here is sensitive

:17:17. > :17:26.to acidification, so the fact we've got a few of those

:17:27. > :17:28.is an indication Other rivers across Wales now

:17:29. > :17:36.want to roll out the scheme to, but they are worried that the body

:17:37. > :17:39.in charge of the environment We are concerned that although we've

:17:40. > :17:49.had plenty of support from local resources and officers,

:17:50. > :17:51.the policy forums, I think, They may not support the extension

:17:52. > :17:58.elsewhere, which I One in five rivers in Wales

:17:59. > :18:03.are vulnerable to acidification according to natural resources

:18:04. > :18:06.Wales's own assessment. So, why not support

:18:07. > :18:10.further liming projects? The key thing for us,

:18:11. > :18:13.is, we have to take a long-term We want to have a look

:18:14. > :18:17.at all the different opportunities we have to solve the problem,

:18:18. > :18:20.and not just dipped to one. What we don't want is to carry

:18:21. > :18:23.on liming, we are just dealing Back on the river they hope

:18:24. > :18:29.to continue the work they feel is vital for wildlife

:18:30. > :18:32.in and around our rivers. NRW says it will consider

:18:33. > :18:35.whether to allow other projects like this one

:18:36. > :18:41.on a case-by-case basis. With just over three weeks to go

:18:42. > :18:44.until Wales' opening Euro 2016 game in France,

:18:45. > :18:46.the team have come together at a pre-tournament

:18:47. > :18:50.training camp in Portugal. One notable absentee is Gareth Bale,

:18:51. > :18:53.who's playing the champions league But Joe Ledley HAS been

:18:54. > :19:13.training- a fortnight If Chris Coleman was hoping for a

:19:14. > :19:18.week in which his players could train, relax and bond as a squad,

:19:19. > :19:24.they picked an ideal setting to do exactly that. The weather, perfect.

:19:25. > :19:30.The atmosphere, laid-back. The stakes, as high as ever.

:19:31. > :19:34.Everybody's Isaiah on this tournament. I want to prove I'm

:19:35. > :19:43.capable of standing up and proving I can play at this level. -- everybody

:19:44. > :19:48.is are on this tournament. There's a good team spirit, that is why we've

:19:49. > :19:53.been so successful in the past. Among the 29 players present, and

:19:54. > :19:58.what a great site for Wales France, a mobile Joe Ledley, assigned to

:19:59. > :20:02.light training, but seemingly on the road back to fitness despite a

:20:03. > :20:08.fracture just over a fortnight ago. But will he be back in time?

:20:09. > :20:12.Once he can deal with lighter loads we will increase his tolerance as

:20:13. > :20:16.the days go by. Hopefully, by the end of the week, he will be where we

:20:17. > :20:21.want him to be and that will allow him to be named in the squad. Then

:20:22. > :20:28.we'll be looking to drop him in at some point. The amount of trips that

:20:29. > :20:35.Joe has, the experience he has. He's a vital player for us.

:20:36. > :20:39.I'm sure he'll be there. There is one noticeable absentee, Gareth Bale

:20:40. > :20:41.is still with his club, and there's the small matter of a Champions

:20:42. > :20:50.League final ahead of him this weekend. Here he was training with

:20:51. > :20:53.Ray on the dread as fans watching nervously on Saturday hoping he

:20:54. > :20:59.comes the one scales. -- real Madrid.

:21:00. > :21:03.We all support him. Would be on edge a little bit, we want him to do well
