:01:00. > :01:03.They say health services would need to find up to ?125,000 every
:01:04. > :01:10.The campaign group Wales Stronger in Europe has described the claims
:01:11. > :01:17.Here's our political editor, Nick Servini.
:01:18. > :01:19.They are arguably the most sensitive and emotive subjects
:01:20. > :01:22.in the EU referendum debate, immigration and the knock-on
:01:23. > :01:26.effect it has on public services like the NHS.
:01:27. > :01:28.So unsurprisingly the claim and counterclaim about the impact
:01:29. > :01:32.of a Remain or Leave food today turned into a full-blown
:01:33. > :01:41.Vote Leave has put together a range of forecasts for the result of net
:01:42. > :01:43.migration, the difference between the number of people
:01:44. > :01:50.It says if it continues at its present rate until 2030,
:01:51. > :01:54.overall EU net migration will be 65,000.
:01:55. > :01:58.But there is also an upper end to the projections, if a number
:01:59. > :02:00.of new countries like Turkey become part of the club.
:02:01. > :02:05.Then the estimate is that net migration will grow to 131,000.
:02:06. > :02:09.That is greater than the population of Vale of Glamorgan.
:02:10. > :02:13.On the basis of current spending, it is forecast that by 2030 the NHS
:02:14. > :02:21.will need ?246 million more every year to cope with the extra people.
:02:22. > :02:23.Project fear is the government coming up with variou scare
:02:24. > :02:27.stories that are unfounded about people losing their jobs,
:02:28. > :02:29.the pound collapsing and World War three.
:02:30. > :02:34.We've based these figures are reasonable estimate
:02:35. > :02:35.based on what happened when Eastern European
:02:36. > :02:40.There will be a large movement of people coming from poorer
:02:41. > :02:42.countries like Albania and Turkey to wealthier countries.
:02:43. > :02:45.The main campaigners have pointed to various recruitment drives
:02:46. > :02:50.across the EU by a number of Welsh health boards.
:02:51. > :02:52.They claim that migrants strengthen the NHS rather
:02:53. > :02:56.than put a strain on it, and have accused the Leave side
:02:57. > :03:03.of misleading people over Turkey's admission to the EU.
:03:04. > :03:05.We know that the pressure on the NHS comes from ill-health,
:03:06. > :03:12.The NHS benefits from 10% of its doctors coming
:03:13. > :03:16.from other EU countries, one fifth of care workers coming
:03:17. > :03:21.Let's look at the facts as they stand and not at outlandish
:03:22. > :03:26.statistics designed to scare ahead of this referendum.
:03:27. > :03:29.The ability of the NHS to cope with immigration levels was always
:03:30. > :03:32.going to be hotly contested, and with two and a half weeks to go
:03:33. > :03:38.it has done just that at a crucial time in the campaign.
:03:39. > :03:40.The ?500 million of borrowing allocated for the M4 relief road
:03:41. > :03:43.would be better spent on public transport infrastructure
:03:44. > :03:50.Jenny Rathbone and John Griffiths claim the so-called Metro project
:03:51. > :03:53.would be a far better use of public money,
:03:54. > :03:56.than extra miles of motorway around Newport.
:03:57. > :04:01.The Welsh Government says it will deliver both schemes,
:04:02. > :04:04.and they've been backed by business-group the CBI.
:04:05. > :04:09.It's a bold scheme bringing an integrated public
:04:10. > :04:11.transport system of trains, buses and light rail
:04:12. > :04:15.to tens of thousands of people across South Wales,
:04:16. > :04:18.enabling them to get quickly and efficiently to the capital
:04:19. > :04:24.But at a cost of ?2 billion it does not come cheap.
:04:25. > :04:27.And one Cardiff AM believes the Welsh government should divert
:04:28. > :04:29.funds from the proposed M4 relief road around Newport to help
:04:30. > :04:35.I do not see the money on the table that is needed
:04:36. > :04:44.And so I think the money would be better spent on the Metro,
:04:45. > :04:49.and then we can re-evaluate the congestion on the M4.
:04:50. > :04:51.The Metro plan is all about making public transport more attractive.
:04:52. > :04:54.At the moment, 200,000 people work in Cardiff,
:04:55. > :04:55.78,000 of them come from outside the area.
:04:56. > :05:00.But even small changes to the rail infrastructure can have an impact.
:05:01. > :05:04.Around 24 trains come to and from the valleys
:05:05. > :05:09.But here there's a bottleneck, that could be alleviated
:05:10. > :05:11.with investment, leaving a far more efficient rail
:05:12. > :05:17.Four years ago the Prime Minister described it as a foot
:05:18. > :05:20.on the windpipe of the Welsh economy.
:05:21. > :05:24.The M4 relief road should help alleviate that,
:05:25. > :05:28.but can we afford both the Metro and the relief road?
:05:29. > :05:30.The Welsh government certainly think so.
:05:31. > :05:33.And that is a viewpoint shared by the CBI in Wales.
:05:34. > :05:36.They say the M4 serves two thirds of the Welsh population and two
:05:37. > :05:44.The M4 is about connecting to the outside world,
:05:45. > :05:47.And there is no point having those internal communications
:05:48. > :05:51.unless we can connect an export goods outside.
:05:52. > :05:54.But one leading transport expert disagrees and believes the Metro
:05:55. > :05:59.In places like Bordeaux a new transport system took 40%
:06:00. > :06:03.of the commuters away on the first day.
:06:04. > :06:08.The Metro will clearly have a much better effect in terms of pulling
:06:09. > :06:11.out of their cars onto a really good first-class European
:06:12. > :06:16.The Welsh government has been given powers to borrow ?500 million
:06:17. > :06:22.But there is opposition in some quarters over what route
:06:23. > :06:26.Supporters of the Metro believe that with a strong cross-party
:06:27. > :06:32.consensus Metro many more achievable and deliverable.
:06:33. > :06:35.A man from Rhondda Cynon Taf has been jailed for four and half years
:06:36. > :06:37.for causing the deaths of three work colleagues through
:06:38. > :06:42.Stephen Parry Jenkins from Abercwmboi was driving a work
:06:43. > :06:47.van home on the M4 in June 2014, when he fell asleep at the wheel.
:06:48. > :06:51.One other person was seriously injured.
:06:52. > :06:53.An investigation is underway following a major mountain fire
:06:54. > :06:59.At one stage it was burning around100 yards
:07:00. > :07:03.North Wales Fire and Rescue Service say extra care should be
:07:04. > :07:12.Here you get some idea of the scale of this fire.
:07:13. > :07:14.Fire crews were first sent in on Saturday night.
:07:15. > :07:17.By last night it had spread over one hill and was advancing down
:07:18. > :07:23.Today you could see just how much of the mountain was scorched,

:07:46. > :07:47.Local people tell me this is the third major
:07:48. > :07:49.mountain fire in this area in the last eight years.
:07:50. > :07:53.I was quite worried that the fire was going to get into the gardens
:07:54. > :07:56.But fortunately that didn't happen, the fire people must have done
:07:57. > :08:01.I spoke to the neighbour who said the Fire Service have a plan,
:08:02. > :08:05.they can't get at it at the moment, they will wait until it comes
:08:06. > :08:07.into reach, and when it did they just tackled it.
:08:08. > :08:10.Whilst the cause of the fire is not yet known, the recent dry weather
:08:11. > :08:16.And with winds we have been experiencing it can quickly
