:00:00. > :00:07.Tonight's headlines: For the first time, the Prime Minister and Wales'
:00:08. > :00:09.First Minister appear together to campaign for the same cause,
:00:10. > :00:25.We stand together and say to the British people, this is a huge
:00:26. > :00:26.decision but let's get it right by voting to remain.
:00:27. > :00:29.But Leave campaigners dismissed it as just another stage-managed event.
:00:30. > :00:31.Also tonight: The police watchdog is investigating after a former
:00:32. > :00:33.soldier died after being tasered in Llanelli.
:00:34. > :00:36.Chloe Thomas pleads guilty to allowing cruelty to a child -
:00:37. > :00:38.her 17-month-old son Finlay died with multiple injuries.
:00:39. > :00:41.Officers fired teargas into the crowds, supporters seen
:00:42. > :00:50.Thousands of Wales fans are gathering in Lille,
:00:51. > :00:54.along with rivals from England, Slovakia and Russia.
:00:55. > :01:17.The Prime Minister David Cameron and First Minister Carwyn Jones have
:01:18. > :01:20.joined forces to urge voters to back remaining in the EU.
:01:21. > :01:23.Visiting a British Gas offices in Cardiff, Mr Cameron said
:01:24. > :01:26.the referendum campaign is "very close" with many people
:01:27. > :01:33.The Leave side described it as yet another stage managed event.
:01:34. > :01:48.Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen. And thank you, Carlin.
:01:49. > :01:53.Putting differences aside, they are usually miles apart on many issues,
:01:54. > :01:57.but it was all forgotten today as David Cameron and Carwyn Jones stood
:01:58. > :02:02.shoulder to shoulder for the first time. They made their pitch and
:02:03. > :02:08.answered questions from all centre staff at British Gas in Cardiff.
:02:09. > :02:12.With no mention of immigration, for example, and at times, the two men
:02:13. > :02:19.were jovial. At the claims were serious as they made their case to
:02:20. > :02:23.remain in terms of potential benefits, security, cheaper energy
:02:24. > :02:27.bills, but time and time again, they returned to the economy. When Labour
:02:28. > :02:32.and Conservative politicians are prepared to stand together on an
:02:33. > :02:35.issue, together with greens and Liberal Democrats and trade
:02:36. > :02:39.unionists, businesses and voluntary bodies, I don't see that as some
:02:40. > :02:44.establishment stitch up, I see that as a reason to listen. 58 years
:02:45. > :02:48.where we were on the sidelines, in the crowd shouting when their body
:02:49. > :02:51.took any notice of us, when we had no influence at all on what was
:02:52. > :02:54.happening in the European tournaments, and now we are there.
:02:55. > :02:59.The same thing applies in the referendum next week. This is a big
:03:00. > :03:03.moment in the campaign. The fact that the two leaders have come
:03:04. > :03:08.together shows how serious they think the situation is. In Wales of
:03:09. > :03:12.all places, there are decades of tribal animosity between the
:03:13. > :03:16.Conservatives and Labour, and those scenes today will be unpalatable to
:03:17. > :03:21.many. Both men have to persuade people that it has been worth it.
:03:22. > :03:29.Leave campaigners dismiss it as yet another stage-managed event. The
:03:30. > :03:33.constant deluge of prophecies of doom, of putting fear in people
:03:34. > :03:38.because the world will come to an end if they vote to leave, I'm not
:03:39. > :03:41.being believed by growing numbers of people. This was not the only time
:03:42. > :03:46.today for the Conservatives and Labour to share a platform on the
:03:47. > :03:50.EU. The current Chancellor George Osborne and the former Labour
:03:51. > :03:56.Chancellor Alistair Darling want our taxes would rise and public spending
:03:57. > :03:59.could be cut in the event of Brexit. But 57 Conservative MPs have signed
:04:00. > :04:06.a joint statement saying they would block this emergency budget. There
:04:07. > :04:10.is desperation on both sides, and I have already said the scaremongering
:04:11. > :04:14.on both sides. This is taking it to a new level. It was unprecedented to
:04:15. > :04:18.see the leader of the Conservative Party and the leader of Welsh Labour
:04:19. > :04:23.agreeing on so much. They did it in one of Wales's biggest call centres.
:04:24. > :04:27.The question is, whether anybody is listening at this late stage in the
:04:28. > :04:35.campaign. Just how significant was this?
:04:36. > :04:37.Well, it was symbolic and not without its risks. Welsh Labour are
:04:38. > :04:46.acutely aware of what happened to Scottish Labour when they shared
:04:47. > :04:48.platforms with Labour in the Scottish referendum. There are
:04:49. > :04:52.different circumstances now, and that is why Labour felt comfortable
:04:53. > :04:57.doing it. The big question is what kind of impact this will have. The
:04:58. > :05:00.problem for Labour is that so many of its traditional supporters are
:05:01. > :05:05.considering a vote to leave because they are disaffected with politics
:05:06. > :05:07.and concerned about immigration. Frankly, an appearance of David
:05:08. > :05:13.Cameron is not going to change their minds. One area where it could help,
:05:14. > :05:16.though, is trying to clarify the confusion that does exist among the
:05:17. > :05:21.public, about where Labour stands on the position and its stance on the
:05:22. > :05:27.European Union. A final thought the very fact that today has happened
:05:28. > :05:31.today at this afternoon, tells you all you need to know about how close
:05:32. > :05:38.this contest is with a matter of days to go.
:05:39. > :05:45.A former soldier has died after being hated by police. The
:05:46. > :05:52.43-year-old man was well-known for his committee work in the town --

:06:02. > :06:05.Spencer, a former member of the Royal Welsh Regiment, served in the
:06:06. > :06:11.Army for 15 years. He told this programme how tough duty there had
:06:12. > :06:17.been. I served in times where it was a very scary place to be, and of
:06:18. > :06:23.loosely as being professional in what we do we continued with the
:06:24. > :06:28.operation in hand. Friends say military life took its toll and he
:06:29. > :06:33.was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Police were called
:06:34. > :06:37.here by a member of the public who was concerned about the welfare and
:06:38. > :06:41.the behaviour of a man who appeared to be injured. We are told that
:06:42. > :06:45.during an engagement a taser was discharged. He was a regular at this
:06:46. > :06:55.gym, and here and in town, well-known for his committee spirit.
:06:56. > :06:59.I know that he set up a watchdog to make sure children were getting home
:07:00. > :07:05.safely. He was a pillar of the community. He was quite selfless.
:07:06. > :07:08.The police have referred the case to the IPCC, which is investigating.
:07:09. > :07:11.French Police have clashed with fans in the centre of Lille tonight.
:07:12. > :07:14.Thousands of Wales supporters have been gathering in the city,
:07:15. > :07:16.along with fans from England, Slovakia and Russia.
:07:17. > :07:31.I would say in the last hour or so, the atmosphere has changed in Lille.
:07:32. > :07:36.Away from the fans, there are thousands of fans on the streets
:07:37. > :07:40.here, and whilst out filming we heard a large bang and there was a
:07:41. > :07:45.huge rush of fans charging down one of the main streets. A lot of the
:07:46. > :07:49.lease in white skier followed them in an attempt to contain the
:07:50. > :07:55.disturbance. Dash-macro police in riot gear. They have used tear gas
:07:56. > :08:01.to try to disperse those crowds. Clashes between police and fans
:08:02. > :08:06.tonight on the street in Lille. As thousands from the stadium is built
:08:07. > :08:09.into the city, the atmosphere ten. At the moment, police are gathered
:08:10. > :08:14.here and it is not clear what is happening. There was a loud bang and
:08:15. > :08:19.a big rush of fans down this road. The police are quick to respond, it
:08:20. > :08:23.is just finding out what is going on. Just before a large number of
:08:24. > :08:29.England fans gathered in the bars of a square, loading Russian fans after
:08:30. > :08:33.the loss to Slovakia, and as always plenty of police to watch the
:08:34. > :08:37.performance. In preparation for any trouble, there are an extra 4000
:08:38. > :08:44.officers on the streets of the city tonight. 350 bars will close early
:08:45. > :08:49.than normal at around midnight. In the fan zone they are serving lower
:08:50. > :08:52.strength beer. Authorities have banned the sale of alcohol in shops
:08:53. > :08:56.and supermarkets, but that is proving difficult to police. Any
:08:57. > :09:01.city in the world that has introduced that type of licensing
:09:02. > :09:07.legislation, within a matter of hours, in a city the size of Lille,
:09:08. > :09:10.to try to police that 100% will be very difficult. The football
:09:11. > :09:14.supporters Federation which has already met with French lease and
:09:15. > :09:20.Uefa security advisers is not invent alcohol is the problem. I don't know
:09:21. > :09:25.how they can impose that, with some 80 people in the city, you have got
:09:26. > :09:31.these little outlets. There are too many outlets that sell alcohol it
:09:32. > :09:35.would be impossible to impose. What people need to bear in mind, this is
:09:36. > :09:41.not alcohol fuelled violence, this is premeditated violence by
:09:42. > :09:45.hooligans who are not drinking. Police have been quick to respond to
:09:46. > :09:48.disturbance is tonight, releasing tear gas to disperse the crowd, but
:09:49. > :09:53.they may well be in for a long night ahead.
:09:54. > :09:57.It is not just football supporters in this city. As we moved away from
:09:58. > :10:02.this disturbance there were people coughing, just on their way home
:10:03. > :10:05.from work. Our eyes were stinging and burning, and we were just on the
:10:06. > :10:09.edge of that tear gas. The situation is ongoing and there are plenty of
:10:10. > :10:12.police on the streets. We will bring you the latest as we have it and of

:11:25. > :11:27.as he described finding Finlay at the bottom of the stairs

:11:44. > :11:46.know what he was doing, but he denies the charges
:11:47. > :12:05.against him and the trial continues. Still to come: Wales has more
:12:06. > :12:08.passion than England, says Gareth Bale. We will hear reaction from the
:12:09. > :12:12.England camp. Some parts of the country have been
:12:13. > :12:15.hit by thunderstorms again today with flash flooding in places, and
:12:16. > :12:20.there is a warning of more to come tomorrow.
:12:21. > :12:23.The defence has started in the trial of David Ellis,
:12:24. > :12:27.The 41-year-old denies murder but admits the manslaughter
:12:28. > :12:36.He told Swansea Crown Court he was asked to give sexual favours in lieu
:12:37. > :12:38.of rent. David Ellis told the jury his
:12:39. > :12:41.landlord Alec Warburton asked him to perform sexual favours
:12:42. > :12:43.because he had failed Mr Ellis told the jury
:12:44. > :12:47.he was repulsed by this He said he then decided
:12:48. > :12:51.he would steal money from other tenants in the property in order
:12:52. > :12:54.to pay his rent and get away The jury heard on the 31st July
:12:55. > :13:00.an altercation broke out Mr Ellis said his landlord made

:13:12. > :13:15.and then decided to drive the landlord's body to North Wales,
:13:16. > :13:18.and dumped it in a disused quarry. Mr Ellis said he then made his way
:13:19. > :13:22.to Northern Ireland before ending up in the Republic of Ireland,

:13:47. > :13:50.would cross between Anglesey and mainland Wales underground
:13:51. > :13:52.rather than on pylons. Critics say the whole route should
:13:53. > :13:54.be undersea or underground, but the National Grid has always
:13:55. > :14:10.argued that's too expensive. We understand that people have told
:14:11. > :14:14.us they would like to put the whole collection underground. Today we are
:14:15. > :14:18.focusing on this area must we have nothing new to tell you about the
:14:19. > :14:22.rest of the connection, but we are developing our design and proposals
:14:23. > :14:24.about the entirety of the route, and before the end of the year we will
:14:25. > :14:26.come back with those detailed designs and ask people about their
:14:27. > :14:29.opinions of those. More than two-thirds
:14:30. > :14:31.of Assembly Members have signed a letter to the BBC
:14:32. > :14:33.Director General, Tony Hall, demanding he is "specific" about how
:14:34. > :14:36.much extra money he intends In 2014, Lord Hall told an audience
:14:37. > :14:40.in Cardiff that English-language television programming in Wales had
:14:41. > :14:42.been "eroded" and he subsequently said he planned to "allocate
:14:43. > :14:45.additional funding" to the nations. Unemployment in Wales remains below
:14:46. > :14:48.the rate for the UK as a whole. The Office for National Statistics
:14:49. > :14:51.says between February and April the jobless rate here was 4.7%,
:14:52. > :15:03.compared to 5% across the UK. Back to France now, and to Lens
:15:04. > :15:05.where Wales play England in their second Euro
:15:06. > :15:08.2016 match tomorrow. England manager Roy Hodgson has been
:15:09. > :15:11.responding to Gareth Bale's comments about the Welsh side having more
:15:12. > :15:13.passion than the English. We can join Iwan Griffiths now,
:15:14. > :15:28.who's at the stadium in Lens. Thank you. Well, the Wales squad
:15:29. > :15:31.have just finished training here this evening. The manager was
:15:32. > :15:35.Coleman has said he never wanted to be drawn in the same group as
:15:36. > :15:40.England. He knew what to expect, he said, from the circus that came with
:15:41. > :15:44.this fixture, the circus being the psychological mind games we have
:15:45. > :15:49.witnessed over the last few days. Now it is down to the football, but
:15:50. > :16:00.when it comes to this clash, the history books don't favour Wales.
:16:01. > :16:05.Of the 103 games between the national football teams, Wales have
:16:06. > :16:09.won on just 14 occasions. It is not the healthiest of records, and there
:16:10. > :16:14.is more than usual riding on this one. But, with Wayne Hennessey
:16:15. > :16:20.Bactrian today, the squad fully fit, the manager is not thinking of the
:16:21. > :16:23.past and is keen to concentrate on football alone. As soon as the
:16:24. > :16:27.whistle goes tomorrow, both teams will be at it. It will be a typical
:16:28. > :16:31.British game, I should imagine, physical and aggressive. There is
:16:32. > :16:35.quality in both teams. I am looking forward to a good game of football
:16:36. > :16:39.tomorrow. Once the whistle goes, it doesn't matter what anybody said we
:16:40. > :16:43.will just get down to business. The mind games have been ongoing this
:16:44. > :16:47.week. Wales is a better team, says Alan Ramsey. Wales have more
:16:48. > :16:52.passion, according to Gareth Bale. Today, the England camp reacted. We
:16:53. > :16:57.are perfectly satisfied with the passion we bring to our games, and
:16:58. > :17:01.we don't have any doubt ourselves about our passion and desire and our
:17:02. > :17:05.commitment. We wish to do well in the tournament, and if other people
:17:06. > :17:09.have another opinion and think they are better at it, that is fine by
:17:10. > :17:15.me, but it is not something that I really believe is worthy of comment,
:17:16. > :17:20.if I am to be brutally honest. England qualified for this
:17:21. > :17:22.tournament by winning all ten games and Captain Wayne Rooney is still
:17:23. > :17:26.amongst the favourites in the accommodation. Having said that,
:17:27. > :17:29.they have not had the perfect start here in France. Despite an assured
:17:30. > :17:35.performance against Russia on Saturday, they settled with a draw,
:17:36. > :17:38.which leaves them third. Group B is wide open tonight with Wales and
:17:39. > :17:48.Slovakia equal on three points after they beat Russia this afternoon. Oh,
:17:49. > :17:55.how well directed! Mark Hughes's strike in 1984 secured a 1-0 win
:17:56. > :17:57.over England. It is over 30 years since Wales were last victorious
:17:58. > :18:01.over their neighbours. The captain on that date field it is time for a
:18:02. > :18:10.change of fortune. Memories of 85, we won the game 1-0. Him and Alan
:18:11. > :18:16.Davies made the debuts last night. It is always a tough game and you
:18:17. > :18:21.always need a bit of luck and I think luck is with us. I can see a
:18:22. > :18:26.result. Since that 1984 win, England have not conceded a goal against
:18:27. > :18:30.Wales, winning all four matches. That, by now, is history and Chris
:18:31. > :18:35.Coleman's men are here to create a bit of their own.
:18:36. > :18:39.It is difficult to exaggerate the magnitude of this game. It is Wales
:18:40. > :18:43.against England, but it is the European Championships for a place
:18:44. > :18:46.in the last 16 up for grabs. Chris Coleman has urged his players to
:18:47. > :18:50.keep their emotions in check, play the game not the occasion. That may
:18:51. > :18:51.be difficult here at 2pm tomorrow afternoon.
:18:52. > :18:54.It will be quite a match. Thank you. Let's find out what the weather
:18:55. > :18:57.will be like in Lens tomorrow Well, showers are forecast
:18:58. > :19:02.in Lens tomorrow, and maybe Highs of around 19 Celsius,
:19:03. > :19:06.so not too hot for the players. Back home, we've had a big contrast
:19:07. > :19:09.in the weather today. Sunshine in Pensarn and Abergele
:19:10. > :19:12.for the Flying Scotman. Dark clouds, thunderstorms and flash
:19:13. > :19:17.flooding in Swansea. The radar shows today's rain
:19:18. > :19:19.and torrential downpours. Thunder and hail in Tremadog and
:19:20. > :19:27.Newtown. This evening, the heavy
:19:28. > :19:29.showers and thunderstorms Most places will become dry
:19:30. > :19:34.with only a few showers by dawn, lowest temperatures 10 to 14
:19:35. > :19:37.Celsius. Here's the picture for 8am
:19:38. > :19:40.in the morning ? it ll be misty in places with one or two showers
:19:41. > :19:44.in the south and Powys. Bright in parts of the West
:19:45. > :19:55.with some sunshine. During the day, more showers
:19:56. > :19:57.will break out. Like today, some of
:19:58. > :20:00.them will turn nasty. Torrential rain in places
:20:01. > :20:02.with thunder and a risk Parts of the North and West
:20:03. > :20:09.will stay dry with some sunshine. So, more downpours and thunderstorms
:20:10. > :20:12.tomorrow with a Met Office warning in force, but some
:20:13. > :20:15.places will miss them. Most of Pembrokeshire should
:20:16. > :20:20.stay stay dry tomorrow. Tomorrow evening, the heavy
:20:21. > :20:24.downpours and thunderstorms will fade away, but a few showers
:20:25. > :20:27.will continue through the night. On Friday, some dry
:20:28. > :20:31.weather and sunshine. A few showers will break out again,
