0:00:12 > 0:00:16into their next match stronger.

0:00:16 > 0:00:17A courageous public servant.

0:00:17 > 0:00:21The First Minister joins Welsh politicians paying tribute to MP,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Jo Cox, who's died after an attack.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28And with a global shortage of marine pilots, how Wales

0:00:28 > 0:00:31is at the forefront of training a new generation.

0:00:46 > 0:00:47Good evening.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Huge disappointment for Wales fans today after England snatched a late

0:00:50 > 0:00:53victory in their Euro 2016 match.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Manager Chris Coleman said they were gutted but there's

0:00:56 > 0:00:59still everything to play for.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02And Gareth Bale, who scored Wales' only goal of the game,

0:01:02 > 0:01:06said they'd go into their next match with even more strength.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09Russia on Monday now becomes a crucial game.

0:01:09 > 0:01:14Iwan Griffiths reports from Lens.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17With their songs of support they had carried their team for 90 minutes

0:01:17 > 0:01:22but left Stade Bollaert-Delelis devastated but still hopeful

0:01:22 > 0:01:24of a place in the last 16.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27My hopes are for the boys to get their heads up.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29It's not the end of the world.

0:01:29 > 0:01:30We still have a great chance to qualify.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32So disappointing at the end there.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35I thought we were just going to hold on.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37But it wasn't to be.

0:01:37 > 0:01:38Gutting really.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40But we are Wales, we beat Russia and we go through.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41March on.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Come on, Wales! Come on!

0:01:43 > 0:01:46It was a late last gasp effort but even Gareth Bale couldn't

0:01:46 > 0:01:48rescue his team at the death.

0:01:48 > 0:01:53Disappointed at the moment but inside we still feel strong,

0:01:53 > 0:01:54we still feel happy.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57We are enjoying the experience.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59We still have one more game to go and the tournament

0:01:59 > 0:02:00is not over yet.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04We are still in the thick of it and we are going to the

0:02:04 > 0:02:05next game with even more strength.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07It all started nervously.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09An early error from Ashley Williams could

0:02:09 > 0:02:12have proven costly for Wales.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15They recovered, to be rocked soon after when Raheem Sterling should

0:02:15 > 0:02:17have done better in front of goal.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21Although in the minority supporters in red were as vocal as ever.

0:02:21 > 0:02:26Welsh fans are trying to lift their side.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29While their players were put under constant pressure.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33England looked dangerous, Coleman looked on nervously.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37But Wales and Gareth Bale only need one chance, the free kick

0:02:37 > 0:02:39looked a bit far out.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Not for this man.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Gareth Bale!

0:02:43 > 0:02:46With England trailing, Roy Hodgson's team returned

0:02:46 > 0:02:48to the field after the break with intent.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51A really positive start from England.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Wayne Hennessey, heroic in goal.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57But with England pressing, defence stretched and confusion in

0:02:57 > 0:03:00the box, the keeper could do very little to save Jamie Vardy's effort.

0:03:00 > 0:03:05Wales did have the odd attempt and were within reach of a draw,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08the pressure too much for some.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11But with England controlling possession,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13the defence finally broke.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Daniel Sturridge beat Hennessey in the box.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19The fans, subdued.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22The Wales squad and manager, gutted.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23We're disappointed, we're gutted.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25We've got to move on, we've got to put

0:03:25 > 0:03:29this to bed and show a reaction when we play on Monday

0:03:29 > 0:03:31against a tough Russian team.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33Knowing if we get a good result then we're still

0:03:33 > 0:03:35in the tournament.

0:03:35 > 0:03:36There is still all to play for.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39It is the fifth consecutive defeat against England

0:03:39 > 0:03:41but this one will especially hurt for the Wales fans.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44They came within minutes to a valuable point.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46Now the pressure will be an Chris Coleman's men

0:03:46 > 0:03:51when they face Russia in Toulouse on Monday night.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Welsh politicians have been paying tribute to Jo Cox,

0:03:55 > 0:03:58the Labour MP who's died after being shot and

0:03:58 > 0:04:01stabbed on the street in Birstall near Leeds.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04First Minister Carwyn Jones said she was clever, selfless

0:04:04 > 0:04:07and a courageous public servant.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10Aberavon MP, Stephen Kinnock, knew her for 20 years and shared

0:04:10 > 0:04:15an office with her in Westminster.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19Parliament has lost an absolute superstar.

0:04:19 > 0:04:24British public life has lost somebody that genuinely

0:04:24 > 0:04:29believed we can make the world a better place.

0:04:29 > 0:04:34Sometimes politics can be a bit cynical, a bit brutal.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37But Jo was just a different person to that.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39She just shone with warmth.

0:04:39 > 0:04:43She was a fantastic MP, very keen, very lively.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46She had extreme knowledge about all sorts of areas like

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Syria and Yemen.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51She was also very good at representing her own area and she

0:04:51 > 0:04:54was very friendly and everybody got on well with her.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57She was seen as very much part of the crowd and the

0:04:57 > 0:05:00person you wanted to get on with.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02She's really a lovely person.

0:05:04 > 0:05:09A man on trial for murder has told Swansea Crown Court he lost control

0:05:09 > 0:05:12and killed his landlord because he was sexually

0:05:12 > 0:05:13abused as a child.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15David Craig Ellis, who is 41, admits manslaughter

0:05:15 > 0:05:19but denies murdering Alec Warburton, who was 59.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23Mr Ellis says he was angry because Mr Warburton had asked

0:05:23 > 0:05:26for sexual favours in lieu of rent at their home in Swansea.

0:05:26 > 0:05:30The trial continues.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32Business leaders are calling for more support

0:05:32 > 0:05:34to encourage women in business.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37The Federation of Small Businesses says there are benefits

0:05:37 > 0:05:41to the economy of increasing the number of women entrepreneurs.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44It recommends more UK and Welsh Government support,

0:05:44 > 0:05:50better access to finance and improving diversity.

0:05:50 > 0:05:53If women were starting businesses in the UK at the same rate

0:05:53 > 0:05:58they were starting them in America, we would have 23 billion added

0:05:58 > 0:06:03to our economy just from allowing women to reach their full potential.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06We wanted to highlight some of the key factors

0:06:06 > 0:06:09that perhaps are holding women back and some of the key things that can

0:06:09 > 0:06:13support and enable them to be able to do that.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15Wales is at the forefront of training the next

0:06:15 > 0:06:18generation of marine pilots.

0:06:18 > 0:06:21Associated British Ports say an apprenticeship being run here,

0:06:21 > 0:06:25the first of its kind, is helping address a global shortage

0:06:25 > 0:06:28of qualified maritime officers.

0:06:28 > 0:06:34Jordan Davies has been out with the first group of trainees.

0:06:34 > 0:06:38As apprenticeships go it is pretty cool.

0:06:38 > 0:06:43Being driven to work in this, ?1.5 million all-weather boat.

0:06:43 > 0:06:48To take control of this, a 2,500 tonne cargo ship

0:06:48 > 0:06:51anchored off Barry.

0:06:51 > 0:06:52What are conditions like today?

0:06:52 > 0:06:54It is quite good today.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56Fair conditions.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58Sometimes can get a bit rougher than this but it is

0:06:58 > 0:07:01all part of the fun and enjoyment of the job.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04These waters are the perfect place to practice piloting

0:07:04 > 0:07:06vessels like this.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10The huge tidal range makes even staying still difficult.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13As a training ground it is close to unique.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Initially looking at a ship that sort of size, of course, you are

0:07:16 > 0:07:18going to be daunted by it.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20But it will soon come naturally to you.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23You start off on relatively small ones and you work up to the

0:07:23 > 0:07:24very biggest.

0:07:24 > 0:07:29Initially, the daunting nature of it is exciting.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31What are your hopes for the future?

0:07:31 > 0:07:37Obviously, the South Wales district is an amazing area to work, very

0:07:37 > 0:07:39varied, coming up and down the Bristol Channel everyday.

0:07:39 > 0:07:43I just hope to build a great future here in South Wales.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45As the captain watches on Kym and John make

0:07:45 > 0:07:46their way onto the ship.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48Much of the job is about communication.

0:07:48 > 0:07:50This is an international crew.

0:07:50 > 0:07:54This apprenticeship is about addressing a growing global problem.

0:07:54 > 0:07:59Managers at Associated British Ports predict a

0:07:59 > 0:08:05worldwide shortfall of 150,000 qualified maritime officers by 2025.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08How much of an issue is that in the maritime

0:08:08 > 0:08:09industry, that shortfall?

0:08:09 > 0:08:10Already, it is a big issue.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12It is one that will grow.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15The actual pool of people is getting smaller and for a

0:08:15 > 0:08:19company like ABP, we are very long-term, it is about growth,

0:08:19 > 0:08:22we foresee a big issue

0:08:22 > 0:08:26in the future if we don't do something at this stage.

0:08:26 > 0:08:30This apprenticeship is a way for ABP to ensure they have enough

0:08:30 > 0:08:33quality marine pilots.

0:08:33 > 0:08:34There are 18 across Wales.

0:08:34 > 0:08:38But it also recognises just how busy the waters are off South Wales

0:08:38 > 0:08:42and how valuable they are as a training ground.

0:08:45 > 0:08:46Rugby.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49Rhys Patchell has been named at fullback for Wales in the team

0:08:49 > 0:08:51to face the All Blacks in Wellington on Saturday.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54The Scarlets fly-half is one of two changes to the side that

0:08:54 > 0:08:57lost the first test, with Luke Charteris coming

0:08:57 > 0:08:59into the second row for Bradley Davies.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02Patchell was a late injury call up and only arrived in the country

0:09:02 > 0:09:06on Monday morning.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09Well, let's return to that Wales England Euro 2016 match now.

0:09:09 > 0:09:14In schools, offices, pubs, clubs across Wales, a nation

0:09:14 > 0:09:18has taken time out to watch.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20Employers had been urged to be sympathetic to leave requests

0:09:20 > 0:09:23and some bosses put TV's in the workplace so fans

0:09:23 > 0:09:26could follow Wales' progress.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28Nick Palit reports.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30Come on Wales!

0:09:30 > 0:09:33From early this morning fans descended on the Welsh capital,

0:09:33 > 0:09:35a liquid breakfast to lubricate the vocal muscles in

0:09:35 > 0:09:38anticipation of a joyous afternoon.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41Come on Wales!

0:09:41 > 0:09:44Flag and hat sellers were making a roaring trade.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47Just being in Europe is unimaginable, isn't it.

0:09:47 > 0:09:49Waiting since 1958, since the World Cup.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52And you are playing your neighbours.

0:09:52 > 0:09:54Wales!

0:09:54 > 0:09:57Even here in the wilds of Snowdonia there was

0:09:57 > 0:09:58football fever.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01Un, dau, tri.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03Bala temporarily re-named in honour of our most

0:10:03 > 0:10:05famous player.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07The mayor has extended her invitation for him and

0:10:07 > 0:10:09the Wales squad to visit and hopefully, maybe,

0:10:09 > 0:10:13we will see Bale one day in Bala, or rather Bale in Bale.

0:10:13 > 0:10:19Long before kick-off, fans were securing their spaces

0:10:19 > 0:10:21at fan zones everywhere.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25At Castle Square in Swansea, they were bathed in sunshine.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28But in Cardiff, as kick-off approached, the heavens opened.

0:10:28 > 0:10:33Once two o'clock came in pubs and clubs, schools, hospitals,

0:10:33 > 0:10:35offices, even converted warehouses like this,

0:10:35 > 0:10:39the whole nation was glued to the big screen.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41The downpour couldn't dampen the spirits

0:10:41 > 0:10:43of the thousands who gathered at Wales's largest fan zone

0:10:43 > 0:10:46at Coopers Field in Cardiff, who were awarded

0:10:46 > 0:10:50with a first-half lead off the boot of Bale.

0:10:50 > 0:10:58Joy too at the Masons Arms in Denbigh.

0:10:58 > 0:11:05And at this coach company near Aberystwyth where

0:11:05 > 0:11:09drivers were allowed to watch the match in the office.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11At half-time, though, with Wales leading, they had

0:11:11 > 0:11:14to leave to do the school pick-ups much to their frustration.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18I am going to, just like every other Welshman I think, offer everything

0:11:18 > 0:11:19to God.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21I will always be wonderful forever again.

0:11:21 > 0:11:22Just keep it 1-0.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24Please!

0:11:24 > 0:11:26Many fans will now be drowning their sorrows

0:11:26 > 0:11:29but no doubt they will be glued to their screens again on Monday

0:11:29 > 0:11:31when Wales take on Russia.

0:11:31 > 0:11:34There were some heavy showers in the Cardiff fanz one earlier.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37So what's in store? Here's Derek.

0:11:38 > 0:11:39Good evening.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42The weather in France is similar to hear at the moment.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45In other words, sunshine, heavy showers

0:11:45 > 0:11:46and a few thunderstorms as well.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49That is what we can expect tomorrow.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51In other words, a real mix.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53For tonight, a few showers around.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56Otherwise dry, one or two mist patches forming

0:11:56 > 0:11:57and not a cold night.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00Lowest temperatures 10-14 Celsius.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03Tomorrow morning, some places dry and bright but not everywhere.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05There will be a few showers dotted around.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07One or two on the heavy side.

0:12:07 > 0:12:11Across the rest of the UK, in the south, a

0:12:11 > 0:12:12mixture of sunny spells and showers.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16More thundery showers brewing up during the day.

0:12:16 > 0:12:18Torrential in places with the risk of flash flooding.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20It will be hit and miss again.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23For Northern Ireland and the North West of Scotland,

0:12:23 > 0:12:26mostly dry with some sunshine but the North East of

0:12:26 > 0:12:29Scotland and North East England cloudy and damp with rain

0:12:29 > 0:12:30and drizzle.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33We do have a Met Office warning in force for scattered

0:12:33 > 0:12:35downpours tomorrow.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37But some places will escape.

0:12:37 > 0:12:41If you catch a shower it could be very heavy with the risk of

0:12:41 > 0:12:42flash flooding and hail.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45Some places will stay dry with some sunshine.

0:12:45 > 0:12:49Top temperatures 16-20 Celsius.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51Heavy showers in the south-east tomorrow evening will clear.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54Much of the country then dry overnight bar the

0:12:54 > 0:12:57odd shower and a slightly cooler, fresher night.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59Saturday, a decent day.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02One or two showers here and there but mainly dry.

0:13:02 > 0:13:07The clouds breaking with some sunshine.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10Sunday will start dry and bright but it looks like clouding over

0:13:10 > 0:13:13and we could see some rain on Sunday evening,

0:13:13 > 0:13:15the wind is picking up as well.

0:13:15 > 0:13:18Next week changeable but some decent dry spells as well.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21Maybe warmer by next weekend.

0:13:21 > 0:13:22That is all from me.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25I wish you a good night and I'll see you tomorrow.

0:13:26 > 0:13:27And that's Wales Today.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29We're back with updates from around 6.25am in

0:13:29 > 0:13:30the morning into Breakfast.

0:13:30 > 0:13:30For now, from all of us here, good night.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40I've brought you all here to lay out a vision -

0:13:40 > 0:13:42a team of radio presenters without equal.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45Actually, we're already... Wynne Evans - singer, raconteur.
