:00:12. > :00:13.An extraordinary homecoming for the Wales football

:00:14. > :00:16.team from the Euros - thousands gather in the capital

:00:17. > :00:20.And Tata stops the sale of parts of its UK steel operations,

:00:21. > :00:37.We'll assess the implications for workers here.

:00:38. > :00:47.More than 200,000 fans packed the streets of Cardiff this

:00:48. > :00:49.afternoon to welcome home the Wales football team,

:00:50. > :00:53.Chris Coleman's men had a heroes' welcome at Cardiff Airport,

:00:54. > :00:56.before they embarked on an open-top bus tour, finishing with a concert

:00:57. > :00:59.Nick Palit has been following the day's

:01:00. > :01:12.They stormed through the castle gates like conquering heroes into a

:01:13. > :01:14.sea of red. Thousands of fans had lined the streets to welcome them

:01:15. > :01:33.home and say thanks. Players then joined the crowd

:01:34. > :01:37.singing the now familiar song but they were now home and I couldn't

:01:38. > :01:41.believe the welcome. To represent your country is one thing but to

:01:42. > :01:47.have done it in a major tournament and got through to listen me finals

:01:48. > :01:53.is fantastic. I think we are all very proud of what we have done. To

:01:54. > :01:58.do what we have done and reached the semifinals, I never would have

:01:59. > :02:02.dreamt of that. We are trying to sync it in as much as possible and

:02:03. > :02:08.remember it forever. We want to say thank you for supporting us and

:02:09. > :02:14.being there for us on the journey, amazing scenes we will never forget.

:02:15. > :02:17.We never thought we would see this in our lifetime but it is a really

:02:18. > :02:22.special occasion. It is incredible, they couldn't be better players to

:02:23. > :02:27.deserve it, they have been outstanding, they have been a

:02:28. > :02:32.credit, and we would never the work -- we would never have imagined the

:02:33. > :02:35.welcome would be anything like this. Thousands of supporters lined the

:02:36. > :02:42.streets for hours in anticipation and they want disappointed. This has

:02:43. > :02:46.blown me away, I get so emotional, it is stupid. I decorated my house

:02:47. > :02:53.with flags and they are not coming up down till Wednesday. The team

:02:54. > :02:57.touched down on Welsh soil after their epic French adventure. As the

:02:58. > :03:05.heroes emerged they chatted the fans young and old, signed autographs and

:03:06. > :03:11.posed for photos. I got my shoe and my book signed! If you had said to

:03:12. > :03:16.me in May that we would have got to the semifinals you would have

:03:17. > :03:24.thought, another politician talking nonsense. Against Belgium it was the

:03:25. > :03:30.best I have ever seen Wales play and against a quality team. The final

:03:31. > :03:34.stop for the open top bus, Cardiff City Stadium. Tonight a crowd of

:03:35. > :03:40.30,000 gathered. We would like to say thank you to Chris Coleman and

:03:41. > :03:49.his boys for the best summer of our lives.

:03:50. > :03:54.# So come on, Wales... With the Manic Street Preachers

:03:55. > :04:01.relegated to a support act, the main act were taken on to rapturous

:04:02. > :04:06.applause. When you have a team like that you don't have much to worry

:04:07. > :04:10.about, they have been absolutely fantastic and they deserve all of

:04:11. > :04:15.this, they deserve them and they deserve this lot. To get a welcome

:04:16. > :04:31.like this was fantastic and it shows how amazing our fans are. The Welsh

:04:32. > :04:35.team motto in Euro 2016 has been Together Stronger. They Have Been

:04:36. > :04:46.Together With Their Fans And They Are Repairing For The World Cup

:04:47. > :04:48.Qualifiers After a summer exceeding all expectations.

:04:49. > :04:50.To other news, and Tata has stopped the sale of parts

:04:51. > :04:52.of its UK operations, including Port Talbot

:04:53. > :04:55.It's pursuing a partnership with the German steel

:04:56. > :04:58.With more, here's our business correspondent, Brian Meechan.

:04:59. > :05:03.Uncertainty continues for the workers at Port Talbot and Tata's

:05:04. > :05:10.other plants. The UK -- it put its UK business up for sale in March. It

:05:11. > :05:14.has decided to put its seven potential buyers a side to

:05:15. > :05:21.concentrate on its preferred option, thyssenKrupp. We have had

:05:22. > :05:26.discussions with thyssenKrupp and that is potentially a joint Venture

:05:27. > :05:32.but the downside is that it prolongs the agony for our members. One of

:05:33. > :05:40.the bidders was Liberty Stadium in Newport. It says... This is sad and

:05:41. > :05:46.frustrating news for the UK steel industry because the sector needs a

:05:47. > :05:49.fresh start and we think this will bring more uncertainties. Business

:05:50. > :05:56.Secretary Sajid Javid held talks with tartar in move by -- in Mumbai.

:05:57. > :05:59.Ministers have moved to support the company, not least by proposing

:06:00. > :06:04.changes to the law to cut the deficit in the pension scheme. This

:06:05. > :06:09.news of a joint venture with thyssenKrupp can give an element of

:06:10. > :06:14.confidence but no guarantees as yet because there are long way to go in

:06:15. > :06:20.negotiations but communities around pulp Tolbert and other places can

:06:21. > :06:26.take confidence from the discussions ongoing. -- Port Talbot. Uncertainty

:06:27. > :06:33.over Brexit and the pension changes remain. Workers and their families

:06:34. > :06:36.at Tata will have to wait for longer to be convinced that they have a

:06:37. > :06:38.long-term future. An independent report into a boy

:06:39. > :06:40.from Pembrokeshire who died of scurvy in 2011 has called

:06:41. > :06:43.for the Welsh Government to introduce a compulsory register

:06:44. > :06:45.of home-educated children. The Child Practice Review

:06:46. > :06:47.into the death of eight-year-old Dylan Seabridge said

:06:48. > :06:51.home-educated children should be Dylan Seabridge said home-educated

:06:52. > :06:53.children should be registered Eight-year-old Dylan Seabridge

:06:54. > :06:57.was educated at home here in A report into his death

:06:58. > :07:02.said that he didn't have contact with any agencies

:07:03. > :07:06.from the age of 13 months. Dylan died of scurvy four years ago

:07:07. > :07:08.and the report claims that his physical

:07:09. > :07:10.and emotional well-being was His parents, Julie and Glynn

:07:11. > :07:16.Seabridge, had been charged with neglect but those charges

:07:17. > :07:20.were dropped in 2014. At the inquest they disagreed that

:07:21. > :07:24.Dylan died from scurvy. They were asked to engage

:07:25. > :07:27.with this review but it was their strongly held view that it

:07:28. > :07:29.shouldn't go ahead. The review said that current laws

:07:30. > :07:32.on home education are in stark contrast to the Welsh

:07:33. > :07:35.government's commitment to the UN Convention on the

:07:36. > :07:37.Rights of the Child. We would like the Welsh government

:07:38. > :07:40.to have another look at the legislation around

:07:41. > :07:45.elective home education and consider whether it is

:07:46. > :07:53.reasonable to take a view on children in those circumstances

:07:54. > :07:56.having their rights acknowledged, to have a voice, to be

:07:57. > :08:00.listened to and to be seen. However, a whistle-blower

:08:01. > :08:03.who raised concerns about Dylan's family two years

:08:04. > :08:07.before he died doesn't believe that monitoring home education is

:08:08. > :08:09.the answer and that child protection Education officials did visit

:08:10. > :08:15.the family but didn't It seems to me that this

:08:16. > :08:21.is an agenda that people wanted to run

:08:22. > :08:23.and it's a distraction from the real story,

:08:24. > :08:28.the unfortunately common old story

:08:29. > :08:31.of social services departments not working properly and children

:08:32. > :08:33.suffering as a result. The report acknowledges

:08:34. > :08:36.that parents have the right to educate their child at home

:08:37. > :08:39.rather than at school and that home education in itself was not a risk

:08:40. > :08:44.factor for abuse or neglect but it states that there was potential

:08:45. > :08:51.for children to become invisible. Many families who home-educate

:08:52. > :08:56.maintain that an unusual case

:08:57. > :08:58.like this shouldn't lead Having a register wouldn't have made

:08:59. > :09:01.any difference whatsoever Home education is about education,

:09:02. > :09:05.children dying is about welfare. The people who have the power to

:09:06. > :09:07.investigate these things should have investigated, it's nothing

:09:08. > :09:09.to do with education. The report made three other

:09:10. > :09:18.recommendations about safeguarding children

:09:19. > :09:20.and the Welsh government says it will consider

:09:21. > :09:21.all of the findings and look

:09:22. > :09:23.at areas for improvement. In the Somme region of France events

:09:24. > :09:26.have continued to mark the role of Welsh soldiers in the battle

:09:27. > :09:29.there, a hundred years ago. 4000 from Wales were killed

:09:30. > :09:32.or wounded in five days of fighting at Mametz Wood near

:09:33. > :09:33.the town of Albert. Today there has been a service

:09:34. > :09:36.at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery,

:09:37. > :09:37.closest to the Wood. A poppy specially

:09:38. > :09:46.made in Wales and a dragon flag placed on the grave

:09:47. > :10:11.of every Welsh soldier lying at 80 graves are here. Other headstones

:10:12. > :10:20.simply say, a soldier of the Great War known unto God. Let's put some

:10:21. > :10:24.names on these men, Joe Bannister was from Cardiff, William Godfrey

:10:25. > :10:31.also from Cardiff and Thomas ted some from Massey. All of them in the

:10:32. > :10:35.Cardiff City battalion and they all died on the same day advancing to

:10:36. > :10:41.that field. It is the nearest you can get to

:10:42. > :10:44.where they fell and I think it is important for now and for future

:10:45. > :10:49.generations that we don't forget that sacrifice. We have a couple

:10:50. > :10:53.here today of people whose relatives are buried here and it is important

:10:54. > :10:59.that they see the whole thing is done with dignity and respect. Among

:11:00. > :11:02.those taking part, cadets from the Wrexham area. We met them at their

:11:03. > :11:07.camp a short distance away on the banks of the River Somme. They had

:11:08. > :11:11.been here for several weeks working to prepare memorials across the

:11:12. > :11:19.battle ground for centenary events and they took part in ceremonies

:11:20. > :11:25.including yesterday's at the Mametz Wood. I am glad I am here and

:11:26. > :11:29.grateful I have been given this opportunity to come here and we have

:11:30. > :11:40.heard many stories about different soldiers and people have joined from

:11:41. > :11:47.12-year-old and lied about their age. As members of the Army Cadet

:11:48. > :11:52.Force it is our duty to make sure we instil in the cadets the debt of

:11:53. > :11:57.gratitude that we owe those men who gave their lives in the First World

:11:58. > :12:00.War from across the kingdom and the Commonwealth. During the centenary

:12:01. > :12:03.we have been reminded of the horror of the Battle of the Somme and the

:12:04. > :12:07.sacrifice made by those from Wales. Time for a look at the weekend

:12:08. > :12:18.weather forecast now with Behnaz. The deep area of low as bringing

:12:19. > :12:23.very unsettled weather through the weekend, looking wet and windy for

:12:24. > :12:26.Saturday but also rather muggy through tonight and tomorrow. Dry

:12:27. > :12:34.initially but rain starts spreading in the overnight period, initially

:12:35. > :12:39.western parts drier. 12 to 15 Celsius, it could be rather

:12:40. > :12:43.uncomfortable for sleeping. That low bringing the weather France

:12:44. > :12:47.tomorrow, noticed the squalls on the isobars with some south-westerly

:12:48. > :13:01.strong winds with it. Not for a nicer Saturday, heavy pulses of rain

:13:02. > :13:08.possible, low-level cloud. Temperatures from 20 to 24 Celsius,

:13:09. > :13:14.feeling muggy despite the lack of sunshine. Brisk winds coming in from

:13:15. > :13:20.a south-westerly direction. Not a nice day to be out and about with

:13:21. > :13:26.highs of 17 to 20. The rain band will gradually clear tomorrow night,

:13:27. > :13:31.a few showers behind it, quite a bit of cloud and sticky in the

:13:32. > :13:36.temperatures, rather uncomfortable for sleeping. On Sunday, some sunny

:13:37. > :13:41.spells but also some blustery showers, some heavy and temperatures

:13:42. > :13:45.getting up to 20 degrees. More showers merging into longer spells

:13:46. > :13:50.of rain on Monday, brisk winds, becoming less humid for the start of

:13:51. > :13:52.next week and hopefully things are settling down by the middle of the

:13:53. > :13:54.week. I'll leave you tonight with a look

:13:55. > :13:58.back at the extraordinary scenes in Cardiff today, welcoming home

:13:59. > :14:00.the Wales football team, # So come on, Wales

:14:01. > :14:17.at the Euros. # So come on, Wales

:14:18. > :14:47.# With Gareth Bale... We never thought we would see this

:14:48. > :14:53.in our lifetime. # With Ashley Williams we can win

:14:54. > :14:57.any fight... Putting on the red T-shirt for Wales

:14:58. > :14:58.and sharing it with all these fans today is
