:00:11. > :00:14.Tata Steel's possible merger with a German steel giant could be

:00:15. > :00:18.the "death knell" of the industry - and lead to job losses here -

:00:19. > :00:24.The Welsh government has called for an urgent

:00:25. > :00:27.meeting with the company, after it announced that the sale

:00:28. > :00:35.Here's our Business correspondent, Brian Meechan.

:00:36. > :00:42.The those workers who hope the future of the plans would come

:00:43. > :00:46.clearer I likely to be disappointed. The previous process looks abandoned

:00:47. > :00:51.and the company is shifting direction. It seems they were not

:00:52. > :00:55.impressed with the bid put forward by the potential buyers. They are

:00:56. > :01:03.keeping the door open to further bids but they seem to be focused on

:01:04. > :01:08.the merger. For those close to build negotiations, the sales process is

:01:09. > :01:16.effectively over. It is a German company with a global reach,

:01:17. > :01:24.operating 670 businesses worldwide. The steel operations employ 70,000

:01:25. > :01:29.workers. The UK Government welcomed the move. It could be the death

:01:30. > :01:33.knell because what is driving the rationale is a desire for

:01:34. > :01:42.consolidation, ripping capacity out of the steel industry, meaning job

:01:43. > :01:43.losses. They are calling for the UK Government to renationalise the

:01:44. > :01:52.industry and restart the seal progress. Councillor Tony Taylor was

:01:53. > :01:58.a steelworker here for 40 years. He said the uncertainty is having an

:01:59. > :02:05.impact on lives. People are going for mortgages and as soon as they do

:02:06. > :02:12.that, they are turned down. This is unprecedented. Steelworkers marched

:02:13. > :02:16.earlier. They are making sure that I behave responsibly. The company

:02:17. > :02:23.argue that is exactly what they are trying to do. Increasingly

:02:24. > :02:24.frustrated union members and politicians might take some

:02:25. > :02:27.convincing. The publicity Wales gained

:02:28. > :02:29.from the national team's performance at Euro 2016 could NEVER

:02:30. > :02:31.have been bought - The players received a heroes'

:02:32. > :02:47.welcome in Cardiff yesterday, They say all good things must come

:02:48. > :02:54.to an end and on Friday night, Chris Coleman's men arrived in Cardiff to

:02:55. > :03:00.a heroes welcome. But there might be yet more Welsh success. The

:03:01. > :03:05.Secretary of State for Wales has followed all the action, kicking

:03:06. > :03:12.every ball. He believes what the players have achieved is priceless.

:03:13. > :03:16.Even if I asked for millions we could never have bought this sort of

:03:17. > :03:26.publicity. This really has put wheels on the map, the ? football

:03:27. > :03:33.should never be understated. They are already looking to build on the

:03:34. > :03:39.heroics. This promotional video was broadcast in Germany. There has been

:03:40. > :03:47.a marked interest. The challenge for us is to convert that into an actual

:03:48. > :03:52.visit. It may be impossible to properly measure what the success

:03:53. > :03:58.means for Wales. But after 58 years in the wilderness, is it not welcome

:03:59. > :03:59.enough that these things are being discussed at all?

:04:00. > :04:02.There's more on this story on Sunday Politics Wales tomorrow

:04:03. > :04:08.Chris Coleman says the 2018 World Cup campaign will be his

:04:09. > :04:11.He's contracted until the end of the next World Cup -

:04:12. > :04:14.with his team playing their first qualifier at home to Moldova

:04:15. > :04:23.Meanwhile, UEFA has warned the Football Association of Wales,

:04:24. > :04:25.after players including Gareth Bale brought their children

:04:26. > :04:27.onto the pitch, to celebrate their victories over Belgium

:04:28. > :04:35.Four thousand poppies created by school pupils in Ruthin,

:04:36. > :04:38.have been unveiled as part of commemorations to mark 100 years

:04:39. > :04:42.The poppies represent each of the Welsh men who

:04:43. > :04:49.A living history camp has also been held at a local school in the town.

:04:50. > :04:52.A quick look at the weather and after a muggy night,

:04:53. > :04:54.showers will develop in most areas by lunchtime.

:04:55. > :04:57.Some brighter spells though, feeling milder than today.
