:00:00. > 3:59:59And the news that Theresa May, currently Home Secretary, will be

:00:00. > :00:00.here in two days' Our top stories: Welsh Conservatives

:00:00. > :00:09.give their reaction to Theresa May - their new party leader

:00:10. > :00:12.and our new Prime Ministerand. It'll cost ?375 million pounds -

:00:13. > :00:15.will the Welsh Government agree to underwrite half the cost

:00:16. > :00:17.of the Circuit of Wales Members of the Conservative Party

:00:18. > :00:38.here say Theresa May will bring The Home Secretary will be the next

:00:39. > :00:43.Prime Minister of the United Kingdom The party's leader in Wales,

:00:44. > :00:50.Andrew RT Davies, says Mrs May has a wealth of experience

:00:51. > :00:51.at the highest level of government and is best placed

:00:52. > :00:55.to unite the party. Here's our political

:00:56. > :00:59.editor, Nick Servini. So it's a summer coronation

:01:00. > :01:03.of the result of an autumn contest that will put Theresa May

:01:04. > :01:06.into Downing Street. It's the latest twist

:01:07. > :01:09.in the political cycle that saw Andrea Leadsom pull out

:01:10. > :01:12.of the leadership contest, bringing clarity to a fortnight

:01:13. > :01:17.of turbulence for the Tories. We were expecting the Conservative

:01:18. > :01:20.leadership contest, like the Labour one,

:01:21. > :01:22.to form the backdrop of the summer holidays,

:01:23. > :01:25.but such is the pace of British politics at the moment

:01:26. > :01:29.that the decision on one of them has already been made before the full

:01:30. > :01:34.holiday season swings into action here at Barry Island

:01:35. > :01:37.in the Vale of Glamorgan. Theresa May will be our

:01:38. > :01:41.next Prime Minister. This is a Conservative constituency

:01:42. > :01:44.at Westminster so I caught up If there had been a contest,

:01:45. > :01:49.they would have had their say As it is, they are now just

:01:50. > :01:54.bystanders. Almost half the country

:01:55. > :01:56.will feel quite uneasy And so I think, for those

:01:57. > :02:00.who are really concerned, it will be nice for them

:02:01. > :02:03.to have a Prime Minister who is very active and can put herself

:02:04. > :02:05.straight into the job. The country is committed to leaving

:02:06. > :02:10.and we now have to get She has to get on with the job

:02:11. > :02:16.of running the whole country. Theresa May has been Home Secretary

:02:17. > :02:20.and a Cabinet member for six years but not much is known

:02:21. > :02:23.about many of her wider views. One thing we do know is that she now

:02:24. > :02:27.faces a huge challenge leading the country as we negotiate

:02:28. > :02:31.our exit from the EU. I am honoured and humbled to have

:02:32. > :02:36.been chosen by the Conservative She's somebody that

:02:37. > :02:41.does command respect. I've been more than impressed

:02:42. > :02:47.at her ability to assimilate Theresa May will go down well

:02:48. > :02:55.in traditional Tory heartland areas, like this in the Vale of Glamorgan,

:02:56. > :02:58.even among those who voted to leave the EU when she,

:02:59. > :03:02.of course, was a remainer. The argument will be that,

:03:03. > :03:05.at an incredibly turbulent political time, she is considered a safe

:03:06. > :03:09.pair of hands. In his nearby farm, the leader

:03:10. > :03:12.of the Welsh Conservatives and prominent Brexit campaigner

:03:13. > :03:14.Andrew RT Davies gave I have complete trust in Theresa

:03:15. > :03:19.May. She will be honest and decent

:03:20. > :03:22.in everything she does. She will tell you as it is

:03:23. > :03:25.and she will tell you As David Cameron sets off

:03:26. > :03:30.into the sunset, Theresa May arrives on the horizon as Prime Minister,

:03:31. > :03:35.marking a new era for Wales, South Wales Police have arrested

:03:36. > :03:43.another man in connection Lynford Brewster died of stab wounds

:03:44. > :03:47.following an incident A man from Kidderminster has been

:03:48. > :03:53.arrested in Norfolk on suspicion of murder and is being brought

:03:54. > :03:58.to South Wales for questioning. Ten members of a Rhondda drugs gang

:03:59. > :04:02.have been sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison at Cardiff Crown

:04:03. > :04:04.Court. Police recovered nearly

:04:05. > :04:07.?500,000 worth of cocaine - a large quantity of it

:04:08. > :04:12.in a house in Tonyrefail. The future of the Port Talbot

:04:13. > :04:15.steelworks can only be guaranteed That's according to a senior

:04:16. > :04:21.executive at Tata Steel. The company's in merger talks

:04:22. > :04:24.with the German firm Thyssenkrupp after halting its sale

:04:25. > :04:27.for its Welsh sites, The airline Virgin Atlantic has

:04:28. > :04:34.signed a ?3.4 billion deal to buy 12 The aircraft will operate on routes

:04:35. > :04:42.from Heathrow and Gatwick. Airbus employs 6,000 staff

:04:43. > :04:44.at its Broughton Developers behind a motor racing

:04:45. > :04:52.track in Ebbw Vale say they're confident the Welsh Government

:04:53. > :04:56.will back the project this week, allowing them to get

:04:57. > :04:59.on with developing the site. A revised plan for the Circuit

:05:00. > :05:02.of Wales has been It requires the taxpayer

:05:03. > :05:09.to underwrite half the ?375 million It's a critical week

:05:10. > :05:16.for Circuit of Wales. A plan to build a racing track

:05:17. > :05:19.capable of hosting motorcycling's Grand Prix, the Moto GP,

:05:20. > :05:23.a range of industrial premises for the automotive sector

:05:24. > :05:27.and hotels, right next to the Valley The idea is to attract big-name

:05:28. > :05:33.companies and the sports car maker TDR has already

:05:34. > :05:36.announced its going to make And this is where they planned

:05:37. > :05:42.to build the 3.5 mile track. The circuit itself is part

:05:43. > :05:46.of a wider regeneration development, The company claimed it could create

:05:47. > :05:54.6000 jobs and attract 750,000 visitors to this part

:05:55. > :05:59.of the valleys every year. But the project needs

:06:00. > :06:02.Welsh government backing. The most important thing for us this

:06:03. > :06:05.week is getting the confidence and certainty from the Welsh

:06:06. > :06:07.government that allows Of course there will still be things

:06:08. > :06:12.to talk about and I'm sure there will be other negotiations,

:06:13. > :06:15.but what we are looking for is that confidence and certainty that we can

:06:16. > :06:21.pass on to our suppliers investors, An initial proposal requiring

:06:22. > :06:30.the entire ?335 million project to be underwritten by the Welsh

:06:31. > :06:33.government if it ran into trouble, A new plan has been put together

:06:34. > :06:39.which would reduce that With Blaenau Gwent and Monmouthshire

:06:40. > :06:44.councils providing loans worth ?90 million, around

:06:45. > :06:48.a quarter of the cost. In all, the public purse

:06:49. > :06:52.would guarantee 75% of the total The rest of the risk would be borne

:06:53. > :06:59.by the private sector. The leader of Monmouthshire Council

:07:00. > :07:02.has said tonight that neither they nor Blaenau Gwent council have

:07:03. > :07:05.yet agreed all backed the loans. The economy secretary is due to make

:07:06. > :07:11.a decision this week, before the assembly heads

:07:12. > :07:14.into summer recess. It's a big call for the new minister

:07:15. > :07:17.so soon into taking Who, back in April,

:07:18. > :07:21.was adamant that the risk At lunchtime today,

:07:22. > :07:30.still discussing issues on this. So it's important to recognise

:07:31. > :07:33.that we wanted to support this project, we thought it

:07:34. > :07:35.would have been good. But I'm not entitled to take

:07:36. > :07:39.the risk with our public money, and I don't think the public

:07:40. > :07:44.would expect me to take that risk. Now the Welsh government says it's

:07:45. > :07:46.always been clear that any support provided by the taxpayer needs to be

:07:47. > :07:50.proportionate and fair. It has also stressed that its door

:07:51. > :07:53.remains open if sufficient private The question is whether that's

:07:54. > :07:59.the case. Let's see what the

:08:00. > :08:14.weather has in store. The weather is feeling fresh as they

:08:15. > :08:18.go through the night in over the coming days. We look forward to

:08:19. > :08:23.sunshine tomorrow but first we have showers to do with. The showers are

:08:24. > :08:27.across North Wales and are making their way south and eastwards. We

:08:28. > :08:32.have quite a bit of cloud around. The winds easing overnight.

:08:33. > :08:39.Temperatures in towns and cities 10-14dC. Tomorrow, we have this

:08:40. > :08:42.trough bringing the showers which will clear through. Behind it, high

:08:43. > :08:47.pressure so things will settle down by the time we get into the

:08:48. > :08:53.afternoon. First thing tomorrow morning, a few showers. Some

:08:54. > :08:56.sunshine in between. Pembrokeshire escaping the worst of the showers

:08:57. > :09:00.and they will ease late morning into the afternoon. For the rest of the

:09:01. > :09:04.British Isles, the northern half enjoying the best of the dry and

:09:05. > :09:08.bright weather. Heavier downpours across the South and east with the

:09:09. > :09:12.potential for surface water flooding. In Wales tomorrow

:09:13. > :09:18.afternoon, it's looking pretty good. We can look forward to more in the

:09:19. > :09:25.way of sunshine. Much lighter winds compared with today. Temperatures

:09:26. > :09:29.range 15-19dC. Tomorrow night, misty patches forming. The odd isolated

:09:30. > :09:37.shower but dry weather to look forward to and feeling cooler with

:09:38. > :09:42.temperatures down to seven Celsius. Then on Wednesday, fewer showers and

:09:43. > :09:46.more in the way of sunshine, less humid, temperatures getting up to 18

:09:47. > :09:48.Celsius. A similar picture on Thursday where we see the return of

:09:49. > :09:49.the humid conditions. More on all of tonight's

:09:50. > :09:52.stories on our website: From all of us on the

:09:53. > :10:02.programme, goodnight.
