0:00:41 > 0:00:42Good evening.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45The highest profile Welsh MP in the cabinet has resigned.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Stephen Crabb, who was Work and Pensions Secretary,

0:00:47 > 0:00:51said the decision was 'in the best interests of his family',

0:00:51 > 0:00:54following newspaper allegations about his private life.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57The MP for Preseli Pembrokeshire was one of several contenders

0:00:57 > 0:01:02for the Tory leadership.

0:01:02 > 0:01:06Our parliamentary correspondent David Cornock, reports.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08He was the future once.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10When Stephen Crabb was summoned to Number 10 this lunchtime

0:01:10 > 0:01:13it was expected to be good news.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Ministers are sacked in private, only those with job offers get to do

0:01:16 > 0:01:20the Downing Street walk.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22He emerged having resigned from the Cabinet, in a statement

0:01:22 > 0:01:27he said that after careful reflection he had told Theresa May

0:01:27 > 0:01:32he wouldn't be in her government, in the best interests of my family.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Colleagues were sympathetic.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37I am sad that Stephen has resigned.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40He is one of Wales's most talented politicians.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43He brought a lot in his role of Secretary of State

0:01:43 > 0:01:46for Wales, and then Secretary for work and pensions.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48I understand why, but I hope it is Stephen being benched rather

0:01:48 > 0:01:50than taken off the team.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53His decision follows reports that the married father of two had

0:01:53 > 0:01:56sent suggestive text messages to a young woman.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59Behaviour that seems at odds with a leadership bid

0:01:59 > 0:02:02based on his values.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05The blend of qualities that I bring are exactly those that are required

0:02:05 > 0:02:08to get us through the difficult circumstances that we're are in.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12Resilience, optimism, humility, strength.

0:02:12 > 0:02:17Qualities he said he had learned from his mother who single-handedly

0:02:17 > 0:02:20raised him and his brothers in a council house in Haverfordwest.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Despite finishing fourth of five colleagues thought he ran

0:02:23 > 0:02:27a good leadership campaign.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29In politics there is always a way back.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32To not take a position now, when there is a new government

0:02:32 > 0:02:35carving in, there is a huge amount of change.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Merging departments and changing, well, of course, there is room

0:02:37 > 0:02:40for everybody to come back and I fully expect Stephen Crabb

0:02:40 > 0:02:43to be back in government, certainly within my period,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45chances are that is only going to be four years.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49Stephen Crabb's departure means there is only one Welsh MP left

0:02:49 > 0:02:53in Theresa May's Cabinet, Alun Cairns was reappointed

0:02:53 > 0:02:58Secretary of Stat for Wales.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01He says is top priorities will include the steel

0:03:01 > 0:03:03industry and devolution.

0:03:03 > 0:03:08David Cornock, BBC Wales Today, Westminster.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11320 people have lost their jobs, and there's been disruption for bus

0:03:11 > 0:03:13passengers across North Wales after a coach company near Wrexham

0:03:13 > 0:03:17went into administration.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21GHA Coaches operated more than 230 vehicles on school-bus routes

0:03:21 > 0:03:25and ran services across North Wales.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Matthew Richards has this report.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Hundreds of GHA staff gathered at the company headquarters this

0:03:30 > 0:03:33morning to be told that the company had ceased trading and

0:03:33 > 0:03:35they were out of work.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38As they emerged there was anger, sadness and bewilderment.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40I'm not sure what to do with this.

0:03:40 > 0:03:44I'll give it to you.

0:03:44 > 0:03:45The owners are gutted.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47They worked hard, no matter what people say.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50They were good hard working people and we've lost everything.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53It's really sad.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55We're getting paid last week's wages, but that's it.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59We've got to apply for the rest through the Government, basically.

0:03:59 > 0:04:03GHA coaches, now based in Ruabon, was established in 1990 and had

0:04:03 > 0:04:05grown into a major public transport provider across North Wales carrying

0:04:05 > 0:04:09schoolchildren from Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire

0:04:09 > 0:04:12as well as other passengers into Gwynedd, Conwy,

0:04:12 > 0:04:14Shropshire and Cheshire.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16But administrators say a winding up order was issued

0:04:16 > 0:04:19by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs over unpaid tax, it's

0:04:19 > 0:04:22thought the firm had debts of about ?3 million.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26That's left these passengers in Llangollen stranded at the bus stop.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27This is a very important service.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30The service first thing in the morning to Wrexham is very

0:04:30 > 0:04:32important because there are quite a few people who use

0:04:32 > 0:04:35it to go to work.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37What are you going to do?

0:04:37 > 0:04:38I'm not sure.

0:04:38 > 0:04:39I'll have to start looking...

0:04:39 > 0:04:41I haven't thought that far ahead.

0:04:41 > 0:04:45I really haven't.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47Councils across North East Wales raced to find replacement bus

0:04:47 > 0:04:49services on their school runs, with other passengers

0:04:49 > 0:04:53hoping their journeys will continue under new operators.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56We've got services running through Denbigh, via Ruthin,

0:04:56 > 0:04:58to Corwen and back, a full timetable the whole day.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02They are working on additional services in other

0:05:02 > 0:05:04areas of the county.

0:05:04 > 0:05:05It will take time.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08I hope the public are with us on this and will bare with us

0:05:08 > 0:05:11because it is very difficult.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14The Welsh Government says it's been working to protect the network

0:05:14 > 0:05:17provided by GHA coaches and wants to minimise any adverse effect of

0:05:17 > 0:05:19the company entering administration.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22Just before being appointed the Transport Secretary

0:05:22 > 0:05:25today Chris Grayling said they would try to help.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28One always hopes, when businesses put into administration,

0:05:28 > 0:05:30that it's possible to save it.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32I know that the Department for Work and Pensions,

0:05:32 > 0:05:35and the Business Department, and indeed, the Welsh Office

0:05:35 > 0:05:38will do everything they can to provide appropriate support

0:05:38 > 0:05:40where they are able to do so.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43It's not yet clear what's caused the company's financial predicament

0:05:43 > 0:05:46but some passengers have complained about inconsistencies

0:05:46 > 0:05:49in the service for some time.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51Now they, and the employees, find themselves without

0:05:51 > 0:05:55a service at all.

0:05:55 > 0:05:58BBC Wales understands the leader of Ukip in Wales, Nathan Gill,

0:05:58 > 0:06:02is to stand as a running-mate to Ukip MEP for the North West

0:06:02 > 0:06:05Steven Woolfe, in a bid for the party's leadership.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08A source has said Mr Gill, who is an MEP and an AM,

0:06:08 > 0:06:11is to run as deputy to Mr Woolfe.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14Ukip is looking for a new leader after Nigel Farage announced

0:06:14 > 0:06:18he was stepping-down earlier this month.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20Ukip's Neil Hamilton could have some of his living costs

0:06:20 > 0:06:24paid by the taxpayer, despite not living in Wales.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27Assembly Members can claim more than ?8,000 per year for Cardiff

0:06:27 > 0:06:30accommodation expenses if they live outside South Wales.

0:06:30 > 0:06:35The Assembly's Independent Remuneration Board is considering

0:06:35 > 0:06:40a change to the rules for AMs living in England.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43A third man has been charged with the murder

0:06:43 > 0:06:46of 29-year-old Lynford Brewster, who died of stab wounds last month

0:06:46 > 0:06:49following an incident in the Llanedyrn area of Cardiff.

0:06:49 > 0:06:5223-year-old Jake Whelan from Kidderminster appeared before

0:06:52 > 0:06:55magistrates this morning.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59Two other men also remain in custody charged with the murder.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01Campaigners who fought to save their school sixth forms

0:07:01 > 0:07:04in Pembrokeshire fear the council could be back-tracking,

0:07:04 > 0:07:07after all plans have now gone back to the drawing board.

0:07:07 > 0:07:11The head boy of Tasker Milward school told BBC Wales,

0:07:11 > 0:07:15he's written a letter of complaint to the council, describing the whole

0:07:15 > 0:07:19process as "undemocratic".

0:07:19 > 0:07:23Abigail Neal reports.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25Secondary schooling is a divisive subject in Pembrokeshire,

0:07:25 > 0:07:29with protests outside the council HQ and mud-slinging inside.

0:07:29 > 0:07:35This proud county has deserved better for the last four years.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37You have bled it dry and your legacy will cause us

0:07:37 > 0:07:41problems for years to come.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Having fought a three year campaign to vote down plans that

0:07:44 > 0:07:47would scrap their sixth forms and centralise A-Level provision,

0:07:47 > 0:07:50it's now back to scratch, and campaigners have now been

0:07:50 > 0:07:55all options are still on the table.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58The county council are trying to askd the same questions

0:07:58 > 0:08:01until the people of Pembrokeshire get fed up and give them

0:08:01 > 0:08:02the answer they want.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04That's really not the way to go about this.

0:08:04 > 0:08:06This is far more important than that.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08Pembrokeshire's now facing an uphill struggle, because the row over

0:08:08 > 0:08:13secondary school reorganisation has now gone on for so long they're

0:08:13 > 0:08:16in danger of missing out on the lion's share of funding

0:08:16 > 0:08:20for 21st century schools, and meanwhile standards

0:08:20 > 0:08:23continue to slip.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26Both secondary schools in the county town of Haverfordwest have been put

0:08:26 > 0:08:30into special measures.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32And across Pembrokeshire GCSE results are below

0:08:32 > 0:08:35the national average, education-wise it's at the bottom

0:08:35 > 0:08:38end of the league table, 16th out of the 22 local

0:08:38 > 0:08:42authorities in Wales.

0:08:42 > 0:08:46Faced with this tough brief, the new member for Education told me

0:08:46 > 0:08:49the council was still committed to the idea of an A-Level centre,

0:08:49 > 0:08:53but wanted to do things differently this time.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56I am very sympathetic with the concerns of

0:08:56 > 0:08:58the Haverfordwest people.

0:08:58 > 0:09:04I am confident, however, that we can address those and,

0:09:04 > 0:09:06particularly those eloquent sixth form people we've heard speaking

0:09:06 > 0:09:11from Sir Thomas Picton, and Tasker Milward.

0:09:11 > 0:09:15Thus, I want to reward them with something they can live with.

0:09:15 > 0:09:19Whatever that is, it won't be voted on until next year, and the council

0:09:19 > 0:09:25here knows education standards can't afford to wait that long.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28The public spending watchdog says a steel-coating company in Swansea

0:09:28 > 0:09:29went into administration despite being given more

0:09:29 > 0:09:34than ?3million worth of financial support by the Welsh Government.

0:09:34 > 0:09:36The government's own review of Kancoat described the company

0:09:36 > 0:09:39as "high risk" with a "weak and inconsistent business plan".

0:09:39 > 0:09:43The Government says it's made "a number of key changes"

0:09:43 > 0:09:50to business support since.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52This report, in itself, the specific say they shouldn't

0:09:52 > 0:09:53have invested in this.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56They have a lot of reasons to say no, and they ignored them.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58I think that needs looking at.

0:09:58 > 0:10:00Business leaders and politicians are calling for a billion pounds

0:10:00 > 0:10:02of rail improvements between North Wales

0:10:02 > 0:10:04and North West England, to help link the region

0:10:04 > 0:10:07with the planned HS2 line.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10They say it would transform the economy of both areas

0:10:10 > 0:10:18and potentially create tens of thousands of new jobs.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20It's about getting time to get to employment centres

0:10:20 > 0:10:22in time to start shifts.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24To start the working day.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27It is about getting to the right places, at the right time,

0:10:27 > 0:10:28at the right speed.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31Currently, if you go to Leeds, that took me, three weeks ago,

0:10:31 > 0:10:34three hours for a 105 mile journey.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37That is slightly faster than a horse!

0:10:37 > 0:10:38That is probably not what we are looking

0:10:38 > 0:10:41for in the 21st-century economy.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44Onto cricket, and Hampshire beat Glamorgan by 25 runs in the T20

0:10:44 > 0:10:47blast at home this evening.

0:10:47 > 0:10:55They won by 167 for 6, compared to Glamorgan's 142 for 7.

0:10:55 > 0:10:57400m hurdler Rhys Williams has appealed against his omission

0:10:57 > 0:11:00from Team GB's athletics squad for the Rio Olympics next month.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02The London 2012 Olympian Williams will find out the results

0:11:02 > 0:11:07of his appeal on Friday.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10Seren Bundy-Davies is the only Welsh member of the team,

0:11:10 > 0:11:14which was announced yesterday.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16Some football news, and after Wales' success

0:11:16 > 0:11:18at the Euro 2016 championship, they're now ranked 11th

0:11:18 > 0:11:22in the latest FIFA world rankings.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24Reaching the semi finals means Wales has jumped 15 places,

0:11:24 > 0:11:31leapfrogging England who are now in 13th place.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33Let's take a look at what the weather has

0:11:33 > 0:11:36in store now, here's Derek.

0:11:36 > 0:11:37Hello, Shwmae.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39Some lovely weather for us today, bet, you guessed it,

0:11:39 > 0:11:41it's not going to last.

0:11:41 > 0:11:44All change again tomorrow, tropical maritime air bringing damp,

0:11:44 > 0:11:47misty weather from the Atlantic.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51At the moment it is dry, but the cloud will increase bringing

0:11:51 > 0:11:55the odd spot of rain for the North and west later in the night with

0:11:55 > 0:11:58temperatures at ten or 13 Celsius.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01All change tomorrow, not as nice as today.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05A bright start in the east, otherwise cloudy with

0:12:05 > 0:12:07patchy rain and drizzle.

0:12:07 > 0:12:10Across the rest of the UK bright and sunny for a while in eastern

0:12:10 > 0:12:14England and London, but clouding over, elsewhere it will be cloudy

0:12:14 > 0:12:17tomorrow with patchy rain and drizzle, most

0:12:17 > 0:12:19of the rain in Scotland.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22Heavy rain in parts of Scotland tomorrow.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Highs of 18 Celsius in Glasgow.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27In Wales, plenty of cloud, mist and hill fog.

0:12:27 > 0:12:31Spots of drizzle.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34Some places will become dry and it may brighten up in Flintshire

0:12:34 > 0:12:39and the north coast.

0:12:39 > 0:12:43Tomorrow night, further low cloud, missed, spots of drizzle,

0:12:43 > 0:12:47a front will bring heavy rain into the North later

0:12:47 > 0:12:51in the night, heavy rain for the Snowdonia Mountains.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54Then we've got high pressure over France on Saturday,

0:12:54 > 0:12:56but a cold front lighting through the UK.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59That will bring further rain and drizzle on Saturday.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01Feeling quite muggy.

0:13:01 > 0:13:04It should brighten up in the north on Saturday afternoon

0:13:04 > 0:13:07when it will turn fresher.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09Sunday looks like a better day, drier and brighter, maybe a few

0:13:09 > 0:13:13showers in the north and feeling fresher.

0:13:13 > 0:13:18Next week it is looking quite promising, dry and warmer.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21That will be good news for the Royal Welsh Show.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23See you soon.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25That is Wales Today, we're back with updates

0:13:25 > 0:13:27into Breakfast from around 6.25 in the morning.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31From all of us here, goodnight.
