:00:39. > :00:42.Owen Smith launched his campaign at his Pontypridd constituency
:00:43. > :00:44.he drew on his valleys background background,
:00:45. > :00:47.pleased his parents, wife and children were with him.
:00:48. > :00:51.And proud of an area which has shaped his Labour politics.
:00:52. > :00:54.He spoke of his grandparents Jack and Aggie, people who were not party
:00:55. > :00:56.members but benefited from past Labour governments who created great
:00:57. > :01:06.I think many of us feel in the movement that we have
:01:07. > :01:10.lost our way from those old times and those great ambitions and those
:01:11. > :01:15.And I think Jack and Aggie would have looked at the party right
:01:16. > :01:18.now and would have been horrified that we are not on the pitch,
:01:19. > :01:23.we're not fighting for our people in the way in which we ought to.
:01:24. > :01:26.The town of Pontypridd is named after the bridge that
:01:27. > :01:29.sits over the River Taff and according to his supporters,
:01:30. > :01:35.Mr Smith could also reconnect the party and the electorate.
:01:36. > :01:37.What Owen possesses that Jeremy doesn't is the leadership skills
:01:38. > :01:40.and I think you need that to unify the party,
:01:41. > :01:51.If we have Owen as our leader, we will have somebody
:01:52. > :01:53.who is credible in government but also someone who will take
:01:54. > :01:56.the party in the direction clearly many people, especially the people
:01:57. > :02:06.But in Pontypridd there are also plenty of people
:02:07. > :02:12.He has done a lot of good things in the last year, in a short period
:02:13. > :02:14.of time and with real opposition from his own party members.
:02:15. > :02:16.You have Owen Smith coming out with anti-austerity
:02:17. > :02:18.and so is Angela Eagle, they're copying him
:02:19. > :02:22.Mr Smith said he wanted tackling inequality to be at the heart
:02:23. > :02:25.of his campaign as he tries to become the first Welshman in over
