:00:45. > :00:48.A Port Talbot engineering firm which has supplied the steel

:00:49. > :00:50.industry - including the town's TATA works -

:00:51. > :00:52.for almost 40 years - has ceased trading.

:00:53. > :00:56.250 people have lost their jobs since the company began facing

:00:57. > :01:02.Our Economics Correspondent, Sarah Dickins, reports.

:01:03. > :01:07.The machinery is silent after 37 years of working for Port

:01:08. > :01:10.Fairwood Fabrications ceased trading a few

:01:11. > :01:20.You own it and your father set it up a

:01:21. > :01:27.My father passed away earlier this year.

:01:28. > :01:30.Over the last four years we have put ?38 million in wages

:01:31. > :01:36.alone and that is just in the last four years.

:01:37. > :01:45.There was a future here, you know, it is heartbreaking.

:01:46. > :01:47.Six months ago 250 worked here.

:01:48. > :01:56.They carried out round-the-clock emergency

:01:57. > :01:58.maintenance for TATA and were involved in building the new blast

:01:59. > :02:02.The Swansea Bay tidal lagoon was what Fairwater hoped would keep

:02:03. > :02:05.its metal fabrication business going but that is still on the drawing

:02:06. > :02:09.This company has been caught in the vacuum of an industry which

:02:10. > :02:11.is declining, steel, and one which is still trying

:02:12. > :02:16.In January when Tata announced major cutbacks, this

:02:17. > :02:18.company wrote to the Business Secretary Sajid Javid

:02:19. > :02:21.Tata was devastating for the company.

:02:22. > :02:22.It also suggested that the

:02:23. > :02:25.Swansea Bay tidal lagoon was a way forward for this company

:02:26. > :02:34.Well Tata is still in limbo and the tidal lagoon

:02:35. > :02:38.The last 66 workers left as the gates

:02:39. > :02:42.There are many companies in the area also affected by delays and

:02:43. > :02:47.It is difficult to predict with any certainty

:02:48. > :02:49.but clearly if there were

:02:50. > :02:55.major projects such as the tidal lagoon going ahead on the doorstep

:02:56. > :02:59.here, that could only be beneficial for Fairwoods and the supply chain

:03:00. > :03:02.and manufacturing industry not only in Talbot but back

:03:03. > :03:08.Many across private and public sectors are trying to hold tight,

:03:09. > :03:15.waiting for a series of decisions to be made.

:03:16. > :03:18.Plans for a new ?18 million pounds Neo-Natal Unit for North Wales have

:03:19. > :03:20.moved a step closer - following approval

:03:21. > :03:23.The unit would offer specialist care for premature and seriously-ill

:03:24. > :03:28.It comes after proposals to temporarily remove

:03:29. > :03:30.consultant-led Maternity Services from the hospital, were shelved.

:03:31. > :03:40.Four week old Ezra Eeles owes his life to the medical staff

:03:41. > :03:42.at Glan Clwyd hospital's special care baby unit.

:03:43. > :03:46.Born seven weeks early he's just the sort of emergency case

:03:47. > :03:48.the new Neo natal centre will specialise in.

:03:49. > :03:51.His mum Clare from Llanddulas in Conwy says it will make a big

:03:52. > :04:00.But it's not big enough, with the babies you can

:04:01. > :04:05.see coming in and out, it definitely needs to be expanded.

:04:06. > :04:11.neonatal intensive care centre some of the most seriously ill children

:04:12. > :04:13.face the prospect of being treated many miles away

:04:14. > :04:18.The full business case for the new project got the approval

:04:19. > :04:21.of the Betsi Cadwaladr university health board at a meeting

:04:22. > :04:32.We will have more cots and staff and be able to look

:04:33. > :04:38.after more of those poorly BBC locally.

:04:39. > :04:47.who'll need specialist care which will need

:04:48. > :04:48.to go to mainly Liverpool and

:04:49. > :04:52.England but even for them, we will be able to bring them back quicker.

:04:53. > :04:55.But until recently there was turmoil at Glan Clwyd hospital with staff

:04:56. > :04:57.shortages prompting the board to consider temporarily removing

:04:58. > :04:59.Many people campaigned against the plan saying patients

:05:00. > :05:02.would face long and stressful journeys to either Bangor

:05:03. > :05:06.A purpose built neo-natal unit is what campaigners wanted

:05:07. > :05:09.It has been identified since 1999

:05:10. > :05:10.that this unit has been needed and

:05:11. > :05:12.it has been ignored and continued to

:05:13. > :05:15.We have been through several consultations, discussions,

:05:16. > :05:28.One plaid Cymru AM believes services at Bangor's Ysbty Gwynedd could be

:05:29. > :05:31.There's been a constant under the radar drift of

:05:32. > :05:37.For me that is not good enough for the

:05:38. > :05:39.population I represent and I will make sure that

:05:40. > :05:45.we maintain full services in all fields.

:05:46. > :05:48.The full business plan of the ?18 million unit needs

:05:49. > :05:50.the blessing of the Welsh Government before it can go ahead.

:05:51. > :05:54.But once it does, it could be open by 2018.

:05:55. > :05:59.Even before the controversy, campaigners here have long supported

:06:00. > :06:02.the idea of a neonatal unit and now that idea

:06:03. > :06:10.North Wales Police have charged a 25-year-old man

:06:11. > :06:13.with the murder of a mother at her home in Penygroes.

:06:14. > :06:17.22-year-old Emma Baum's body was discovered on Monday morning

:06:18. > :06:20.in the back garden of the house she shared with her

:06:21. > :06:23.David Nicholas Davies will appear before Caernarfon

:06:24. > :06:33.New figures show there's been a 21% increase in the number of violent

:06:34. > :06:36.crimes recorded in Wales - up by more than 9,000

:07:12. > :07:14.the shadow cabinet and wanted to stay there and then left the meeting

:07:15. > :07:17.and resigned which was a slightly odd thing to do.

:07:18. > :07:19.But he of course - he is very welcome

:07:20. > :07:24.to come back and I hope he would.

:07:25. > :07:27.Well, Owen Smith disputes Mr Corbyn's account of the meeting,

:07:28. > :07:31.Speaking to our Parliamentary Correspondent, David Cornock,

:07:32. > :07:35.Mr Smith also denied he is anti-devolution.

:07:36. > :07:39.The former shadow Welsh secretary said he wanted First Minister,

:07:40. > :07:43.Carwyn Jones, to play a bigger role in Labour at Westminster.
